I moved August 9th and hired Shamrock Movers OF BOSTON to help with my move through the Uhaul moving help service. The GM of that company, Jack, shined me on and then the morning before the move he didn't respond to my attempts to confirm, of course, the morning of the move he didn't show up or call. I was sure I had checked the Yelp reviews, so I tried looking it up again and I realized that I had looked at the reviews for Shamrock Movers located in Somerville (the company you are currently looking at reviews of). So I took a chance and called Paul around 9:10 AM the day I was moving. I was actually sitting in the Uhaul as I called him. I explained the horrible situation and asked if there was any way they could help move me. Not only did he say yes, but he hustled his way over to my place as soon as he could. There was a slight delay and he kept in constant contact with me (probably because he was aware that I was developing mover abandonment issues). Paul and his helper showed up a little over 2 hours after I called him. Let me repeat, a little over 2 hours after I called him in a panic about my moving situation at the last minute. They were great and efficient. It was also POURING rain during the whole load in process, which would slow down a lot of movers, but not these guys. Basically, Shamrock Movers totally saved my butt and got me on the road a mere 2 hours after I was supposed to leave. The fact that Paul was so willing to help me last minute AND was willing to get one of his employees to help out AND was such a great, pleasant person to interact with after my horrible experience with the other Shamrock Movers (OF BOSTON...NOT THE SAME COMPANY!) pretty much made my day. I am no longer living in Boston (thanks to Paul!), but if I were, I would hire him for every move. If you are hiring Shamrock Movers, make sure they are the Somerville based company run by Paul. 5 stars all the way! read more

Just great! I had a piece of furniture from my grandparents that I couldn't fit through the door. I was so upset, because the piece was beautiful and had great sentimental value to me. The only way I could get it to the house is to hoist it up to the second floor to a landing and bring it through the porch inside. I thought that either no one'd be able to do it or it would be prohibitively expensive. I called Shamrock and they did it the same day for an amazing price. The guys were nice and they worked fast. No show. Called and setup an appointment for a move a few weeks in advance and even changed out original move date to fit their schedule. Not only did they not show they did not let us know they were not showing up. Tried calling numerous times with no response and no call back. DO NOT USE as they are very unreliable. read more

We had an expensive dresser we just couldn't move ourselves recently into or new home and Paul at Shamrock was able to move it the next day without hesitation and for a very competitive price. We called Shamrock to move a piano up a narrow North End staircase, after the first team of movers said it couldn't be done after struggling for 2 hours. Paul put together a top-notch crew to come out the same day. They showed up on-time, spent 30 minutes mapping out how they were going to accomplish this impossible task, and then executed it quickly and professionally. I've moved many times in the past 14 months, and Shamrock is right up there at the top. This was a small move, but it involved some antique bulky items, and the movers, Paul and Victor, were careful to wrap the items carefully and store them in the truck tightly. It's a versatile company -- handles small to large moves, including pianos. They showed up five minutes early, and worked efficiently throughout. They're friendly and courteous. The best news: they charge by the hour from the moment they start moving furniture/boxes to the last placement. No add ons for trucks, coffee stops, mileage, gas, or round trips from their starting locations, and no minimum number of hours. They pro-rate too. My husband and I just bought a house and we planned to move most of our stuff, leaving the heavy stuff and furniture to movers. Paul (the owner) and Mike were terrific--they trooped up and down the narrow stairway to our 3rd floor apartment taking great care with our furniture. They worked quickly and efficiently and were also really nice.They showed up early and they moved all of our stuff from the old apt to the new house in less than 3 hours. I thought these guys had done a decent job when they left my place. They were late showing up, but I couldn't be too angry about that. What I was angry about was that they took a huge hunk of wood of the side of my media chest. I understand that there are always bumps and bruises when you're moving furniture, but this was much worse than that. The surface of about 4 inches was completely ripped off. What pisses me off the most is that they didn't tell me when this happened, and I only learned after they left. After I gave them a huge tip... Needless to say, I won't use them again. read more

Paul was recommended to us by Julius at The Other Guys Moving. Paul was available last-minute on a Sunday evening to help us move a couch we had found on Craigslist. He did a great job for the right price, and he was very good at giving directions to my boyfriend, who helped move the couch. I definitely recommend him. read more

The owner took our move very seriously. We were treated with courtesy and professionalism the entire time. We needed to empty out a big furnished house and empty a big truck into the house. When, on our way to our destination, we got delayed, they worked with us to come up with a generous compromise that fit our schedule ideally. When the movers came, they got the job done quickly and extremely well, navigating a difficult house with relative ease. They were able to move everything (even some large pianos) without any trouble. We used movers in the past and at the beginning end of our trip and they simply do not compare to these guys. I found Shamrock on Craigslist on a Saturday when I needed to move a sofa set I'd purchased earlier that day. They offered me a flat price that was a little cheaper than the other professional movers and they were available later that afternoon. They were also willing to be flexible when the person selling me the sofa needed to push the start time back 15 minutes. The move proved to be harder than I had expected because the new sofa was longer than my old one. They did a great job getting the sofa into my unit. I would definitely hire them again. read more

Really nice guys i will say, i was not happy when they showed up an hour or so before our scheduled time. After i had my coffee i was ok. Have an exceptionally large couch that I needed moved from Cambridge to Charlestown. Paul and his coworker were easy to schedule and actually turned up ahead of time! Moved the couch very creatively. I had heard nothing but good things about this moving company, until I decided to use them. Everything was lined up for my move then the owner of the company lost his cell phone and completely forgot about my move. The day before my move I was FINALLY able to get in touch with him only to have him ask me if I HAD to move the next day - is that a serious question? Not only did he forget about my move, but his "buddy" who was going to take care of everything for me was planning on charging me a lot more than the original rate. I spent the next five hours of the night before my move, when I should have been packing, calling each of these guys back and forth trying to make sure I had someone lined up to help me move. The two men proceeded to get into a fight and wouldn't talk to each other so I had to play the middle man. Not only was my move not set up until 2AM, but the owner of this company proceeded to give me attitude and act like I was wasting his time by calling him to confirm my move when he had "a million things to do." This company lacks professionalism, organization, and customer respect - NEVER USE THEM. read more

Recently moved in with my girlfriend (2 separate apartments combining into 1 new one) and we had heard good things about Shamrock. Several other companies had said they wouldn't make two stops, or wanted to charge us upward of $150 an hour plus an additional fee for the truck. Shamrock had no problem doing two stops to load up and charged us only $120 an hour for everything (truck and two movers), however we did get our own parking permits, which they would have charged extra for. The owner and his helper were on time, worked consistently through until the move was done, and were kind and courteous. None of our furniture was damaged (though there was a nick or two here and there, but that's pretty ordinary course). They completed the whole job door to door in about five hours (excluding lunch) which we thought was pretty reasonable given we were moving out of two walk-ups and into an elevator building with two slow elevators. We would definitely use them again. read more
