I can't recommend this company highly enough. I needed help with a move-in where I rented my own uhaul and needed 2 extra guys to help with the unload in an apartment building. I reserved their services about a month ahead of time through Jay who responded quickly and was thorough and professional in all his emails. He sent me the name and cell phone of the two guys who would be helping me. They were on time, ready to go. They needed no direction or encouragement. We quickly developed a system where I unloaded, Charlie loaded unloaded the elevator and Ian shuttled from the elevator to the apartment. We unloaded a tightly packed 20' truck in less than 2.5 hours. They didn't even take a 5 min break. When I gave them some bottle water they drank it on the go. These guys were courteous, respectful and worked really hard. On top of that, they were more reasonably priced than other moving companies and I couldn't have asked for nicer or more hark-working guys. I called these guys purely on the basis of Yelp reviews, and was psyched with the service. Everything was totally quick and easy. I got a team of Rasta movers, all dreaded out, and they were all very chill and very professional. A big drawback was price - I wasn't about to move my pull-out couch by myself, so I was willing to fork it over, but it was still a hefty sum. And my late-morning move actually happened at like 2pm, but considering it was moving day for pretty much everyone in the city, this wasn't altogether unexpected or unwarranted. The guys worked really hard, were friendly undergrads at BU, and were finished with the move way before the time that I had estimated. Maybe this is unfair, because I didn't actually use Wicked Smart Movers. After pricing several (and, as far as estimates go, Wicked Smart Movers was not the cheapest we found), we decided to move ourselves. While Jay had been initially very responsive and nice to deal with, when I returned his call to let him know we had decided to do the move ourselves, he simply hung up on me. That's it: Click. Maybe their service is great, but after hearing on Yelp how "professional" they are, I had to post this, because I found their behavior downright rude. Even if people decide not to do business with you, being professional means losing business with courtesy and grace, not slamming the phone down on someone. I had a nightmare of a move which required a) changing my move date at the last minute and b) changing the pickup point and c) getting the movers to unload a storage crate in some far-off and mysterious industrial area into a uhaul. The mover dudes (Jude and Scott) were awesome. Hard working, and fun to be around on what was a tough day. Jay was great to work with, and uses email to communicate - which is nice because it creates a paper trial and its my preferred MO. I found WSM on yelp, and used them because of the great reviews. Awesome guys. I had never used movers before and had heard horror stories from my friends who have used movers. So, I always tried to get out of it the cheap way by doing it myself but then ended up paying for it in all-day moves and exhaustion. Then I found Wicked Smart Movers through Yelp and I'm recommending them to everyone I know. Jay Poole, the owner, was professional and responsible and the movers that came to our place were quick and thorough. They didn't break or knick anything and they actually found their way to our new place in Eastie without getting lost. They charged $99/hr for a two man crew, a dozen furniture pads, a dolly, a hand truck and a 16ft box truck. There's a four hour minimum for the move and they have an additional $45 flat fee to offset commuting cost and insurance on the truck. It was the best money I've ever spent!! read more

I had ordered furniture delivered to the door and needed someone to help me get it up the stairs. I told Jay about my situation, and that the time window was a bit open. He was great to work with and Scott (the guy who came out) was very helpful. In the morning I had to move the initial time from 10 to 12:30 and they were happy to make the change and not charge me for it. The only mild complaint was that they showed up 10-15 minutes late, but when dealing with movers... That isn't that bad. read more

When my brother had a truck he helped so many people move - I was tempted to buy him a bumper sticker that said "Yes this is my truck and no I won't help you move." I actually have two brothers so for most of my college years I never needed movers. I found that the older we all get - the less psyched they are when I find another apartment of my dreams. I was most impressed with how quickly I got a response from them. I also really loved the mention of offering the movers a cold drink. It's something my parents taught me. And it showed me that this guy cares about the people who work for him. And he knows that if he takes care of his staff they'll take good care of me. Cons: * The movers were very skinny and had difficulty lifting some items. * They were definitely not the fastest movers I've had and took frequent short breaks. * Several items were damaged due to the way the truck was packed. * They could have done a better job packing our storage space (they put our mattresses on the outside, so we have to move them to get anything out) Overall, I would say that the moving experience was about average, though the cost was better than average. ($110/hour for 2 movers + 16-foot truck, plus 1/2 hour travel time and $60 flat fee). How good is Wicked Smart? So good that you want to give them money. Jay and his team have helped me move five times. This time was a definite challenge because we "downsized" from a three-bedroom to a one-bedroom. The new place also informed us two weeks before the move-in date that the building was not ready. Jay was quick to respond even though I e-mailed him in the midst of a hurricane. The movers showed up slightly late but called to tell us. They loaded a 29 ft truck within two hours. We were not given the key until 2:00 p.m., but those guys were already loading boxes into the front hall before we showed up. The move was completed two hours earlier than estimated. The charge was under $1,000 for four strong, very fast, and pleasant movers; the truck; and furniture blankets. The estimation was $1,400. We were so grateful that we left each person a $100 tip. Hired this crew to move us on a hot July day from a 5 floor walk up apartment, they ruled. I was in the apartment while they moved everything out and they were friendly, fast, respectful, and careful. Amazing truck packing skills too, truly impressive. Jay kept me up to date all day long on arrival time and price. He brought in a third mover (after checking with me on price) to help finish up and it went even faster. Just a tip, be nice to your movers and offer them some cold Gatorade! They aren't machines, and if you have crazy stairs in the summer, you should be nice to your fellow humans. I actually signed up with yelp just so I could write this review... Wicked Smart movers were absolutely FANTASTIC. So, my move was sort of last minute... as in I contacted Jay from Wicked Smart movers on Tuesday in order to move on Friday or Saturday. Was not a problem at all, and Jay was super prompt in responding to my emails and phone calls... extremely helpful and flexible. But, onto the exciting part... the best movers EVER. So, in order to save cash, Jay recommends that his clients rent the trucks themselves, although for a minimal fee ($5/hour), he can have his people drive the truck. I elected this option, since there's high likelihood I would destroy/maul/overrun people/cars/dogs/squirrels/frogs and anything else in my way when driving a 16' truck. So, Budget gave away my truck, and I was stuck waiting at Budget for 45 minutes... in the meantime, the movers went to Dunkin and got me some breakfast (love). Then, onto the move. Both myself and my ex-boyfriend were amazed at the efficiency of these guys... they were SO FAST in getting things out of my old place! Even better than their efficiency at their job was their kindness... My ex boyfriend was being a bit of a jerk about me leaving clothes that I wanted to donate in the apartment until the next day, when I'd come by to bring it to a donation center. When the movers saw I was aggravated that he did not want me to leave the clothes there, they offered to bring the clothes to a donation center for me... what movers do that?!?! I was in love. Love love love. Moving into my new place was likewise amazing... I have a huge couch (sleeper sofa) that is always a struggle to move. The darn thing wouldn't fit through either the front door or the hallway, but rather than give up, these guys took apart my WINDOW and got it through that way before reassembling the window. They then feng-shuied my living room, since I, myself, have a limited sense of style. Either way, amazing. They were friendly, personable, efficient, and just plain AWESOME. I kept thinking to myself that they needed some new company name, because they're wicked smart, wicked nice, wicked awesome, wicked fun, and they really did make my day. Best of all, they're totally cheap with respect to the typical mover cost. I'd highly recommend these guys for any moving needs (can you tell?). I recently used Wicked Smart to handle a move from Boston to the New Hampshire Seacoast area, and it ended up being the most painless move I've ever done (I've moved more than 10 times). Their estimate based on the inventory I provided was equal to or lower than several other companies I contacted, and even during this busy time of the year, their response time was always less than 2 hours, emails were answered promptly, and the voicemail was never full. All of this was very reassuring to me, considering how some Boston moving companies tend to disappear overnight. On the day of the move, my team showed up on time, they were efficient and trustworthy, and they got the job done quickly enough that I was able to pay the low end of my estimate. Because of several bad experiences in the past, I'm extremely reluctant to trust movers and not constantly wonder what's going to go wrong and/or how I'm going to be screwed, but Wicked Smart proved that moving doesn't always have to follow Murphy's Law. We just moved yesterday and I wanted to share what a great experience we had with Wicked Smart Movers. First of all, Ray and his team were great at communicating with me beforehand - either over email or phone. We were only in Boston for a weekend and I had to be back in NYC by early evening, so I was quite concerned about the timeliness. Ray communicated that to his team, the guys called me a day ahead to confirm and as promised showed up exactly at 9am at our doorstep. They handled our belongings carefully and listened to all our questions and concerns. When it turned out that the storage units we rented were quite small, they managed to utilize every bit of space possible so it all fit like a puzzle. In the end, when my roommate really ran out of space in her storage unit, they offered to come back in the afternoon and help her move the rest of her boxes in another storage facility! Noticed this company's craigslist ad and their yelp reviews backed it up. We were moving from a street-level-entrance apartment into a 3rd floor walkup with narrow, not-very-level stairs and wanted to rent a Uhaul (and related gear - dolly, moving pads, etc), load it ourselves, and get movers to unload it. We waited until dangerously close to moving day and only 2 companies (Wicked Smart Movers and another) had availability to do that kind of a job. Wicked Smart had a more affordable rate between the 2, so we went with them. They showed up a hair before the start of our window to expect them and did an excellent job. I was somewhat worried about getting a couple of things up the stairs (due to the awfulness of the stairs and the size/weight of the items), but they managed it! And they were friendly and good-humored throughout the move, despite a high temperature in the 80s that day! We'll definitely be contacting them again when we have to move out. Things to note: you do need to put down a deposit in advance (understandable) and then the balance is paid in cash at the end of the move. read more

They are more reasonable priced than the competition and finished the job OK. But can still be a nightmare to work with. The owner wanted to charge me for tip, in advance. Meaning, before they show up. Not only he insisted I must pay for the entire invoice hours before they were scheduled to show up - otherwise he wouldn't, he insisted to include the tip. I guess tip is not what it used to be: a discretionary amount based on the quality and timeliness of the service. read more

I used Wicked Smart Movers back in September, in large part due to their positive reviews. I'm very happy that I did. Though they aren't quite perfect, the experience was still overwhelmingly positive and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. First, the couple of issues I had. Most notably was the timing of my move. I know I was moving in September, so I knew there would be issues, but I was disappointed at how they were handled. I opted to move on 9/2 to save money and actually get a booking. My old roommates let me move my things into a spare room so the new roommate could move in and I came back the next day for my move. I had originally scheduled an early afternoon move, but was called the a couple days before and told they could come at 10am. Great, I thought. I actually wanted a morning move. Now, remember, that I no longer live where I'm moving from so I have to tack a hour long commute to get there on the subway. As the train pulls into my old station, I get a call. They need to push back the move to 2pm. While I was getting there early to be safe, this was only a half-hour before the move and it was obviously something they knew the previous evening since the problem was that they didn't get all their moves done the day before because some moves took much longer than they were scheduled for. I get that, but it was really late notice. Then I go back at 2pm and they wind up being 4 hours late and don't arrive until the evening, making me VERY concerned about how long this would take. I was booked for 4 hours, the minimum, so the possibility of this taking until 10pm at night had me worried. Which is also my other issue. 4 hours is an awfully long minimum booking. Mine was done in much less time and I wish they had even a 3 hour minimum. Again, I know why they do it, but some movers do set the minimum move at 3 hours so its not unheard of. All that said, the crew that came were phenomenal. Very hard-working and dedicated professionals who took their job seriously. I really respect that, because I'm sure its not a ton of fun, but they were superb in attitude and effort. Indeed, a move from Malden to Boston of a decent amount took just over 2 hours. It helped that I moved everything out of my bedroom already, but it was mostly due to their eager and productive effort and I was really grateful to them. After a lot of stress waiting around for them, it wound up a remarkably pain free move and I was happy to send them off early. Both guys, I'm sure are very laid-back types but they knew to take this job seriously and did an outstanding job. Both spoke highly of Jay, who runs Wicked Smart, and I'd respect their opinion. All of my issues were leading up to the move. Once the movers arrive, everything went so smoothly and professionally that I am very forgiving of the delays and rescheduling. It seemed abundantly clear that it wasn't the fault of my moving crew so I'm disinclined to hold it against them. Outside of peak move times, I'm sure you can get a shorter minimum move time, too. Can you say professional? These guys were off the hook. I had booked them for 8am Sunday morning in Cambridge, and was somewhat worried as to whether they'd show up on time. Well, like The Wolf if any of you have seen Pulp Fiction, both Ritchie and Jose showed up at 8:00:00. They were very courteous, careful, and efficient. After we were all done, I bought a couch from my neighbour and they were more than happy to move that up as well before leaving. My move was from 3rd floor to 3rd floor, stairs only. My experience with Wicket Smart Movers was excellent from start to finish. Jay was quick to respond to my messages and easy to work with. Both movers, Ian and Charlie, were friendly and incredibly hard-working. They showed up right on time and got to work immediately. I was very happy with everything regarding scheduling, timing, etc. It was easy to get movers for my requested time slot even though it was at the height of student moving in season. The movers looked kind of skinny and weak, but I was surprised with how strong and fast they were. My only gripe was that we had one piece of furniture, a china cabinet, that they weren't able to maneuver up the stairs no matter how hard they tried. They get points for trying, but they lose points for not being able to disassemble the piece. They tried but weren't getting anywhere, so we all agreed to give up and it stayed in the driveway. Anyways, the next day I gave it a shot and had it apart in about 20 minutes. I then carried the two segments up 2 flights of stairs myself. I guess what I'm trying to say is that they are prompt, fast, and hard-working, but in my experience are not the most inventive of movers. If you have any tricky situations, I'm not sure what might happen. Overall going with these movers is a good choice though. read more

Could not have been happier with Wicked Smart! Responded to my initial estimate request quickly. Estimate was comparable to others - Jay was very friendly, responsive, AND professional. I used Wicked Smart Movers about 6 years ago and they were great, so when it was time to pack up again, Jay(Owner of WSM) was the first person I contacted. He's fast to reply and gives straight forward pricing. Also very reasonable! When you're moving, it seems like every other moment costs a big chunk of cash, so it's refreshing to get a price quote that doesn't make you want to weep. We set up a day/time and the movers, Richie and Shaughn, showed up on the dot and ready to work. I tried to get them to take a moment for some water or food, but they were just non-stop. Richie was the packer of the truck to make sure everything was safe and secure for our 7 hour drive. Shaughn hustled at a faster pace then I thought humanly possible up & down the stairs to my second floor apt with more then one box at a time. Sometimes he'd grab things and I never even saw him -- he was lightning fast. They packed up my 24 foot truck and ALL my crap(yes, wayyyyy too much stuff. time to clean house... and I thought I had??!) in under 5 hours. They even took heavy, random stuff out to the garbage. I'd ask, and they'd be 1/2 way done with it before I completed the request. Not only were they true hard workers, but they both had a positive, friendly attitude. There would be nothing worse then working with surly people, because this is one of the toughest days ever. Their sunny outlook kept me positive and ready to face the daunting task of moving out of state. The only crappy part about my move was not having Richie and Shaughn to unload my truck in PA! While the two guys we had here were fine, they didn't even come close to the determination and hard work of Richie and Shaughn. So disppointed after all the terrfic reviews I read on Yelp. Jay was prompt to answer my calls, however when he said he wanted a $400 deposit, I asked for confirmation in writing. He didn't seen keen on doing that. Ten minutes later, he sent me an email stating that he didn't have anyone available the weekend I requested, and that he himself would be away for two weeks which was on my move date. I find it hard to believe he didn't remember that when we spoke on the phone. I can't help but feel he bagged out of the job because I wanted something in writing. I am not going to hand over a check for $400 to complete stranger that works out of his house. If he can't understand that, he's in the wrong business. Scams are everywhere and your crazy not to protect yourself. I also asked him if he had any materials to put on the floor sto protect them, and his answer was "I wish there was something available." Called another company who was 50% CHEAPER than wicked and when I asked the same question about the floors, the answer was absolutely we can put down runners. I inquired with 4 moving companies before hiring these guys; the other companies were either higher priced or not flexible on the date/time. The owner of Wicked Smart Movers, Jay, was very responsive, flexible and easy to work with when scheduling my move. Initially I wasn't sure of our closing time on the new house but Jay was flexible and gave me a couple of days to confirm the time, which was greatly appreciated since we were so stressed leading up to the move. On moving day 3 guys arrived about 30-minutes late but they made it up by staying 30-minutes late. They worked really hard and got everything unloaded from 4-pack rat containers in 3 hours! I called and didn't use them. Why? First off, he ask me to send him an Inventory List, for me to call and get a parking permit like I was his admin, after telling him I was busy and didn't have time. While he was somewhat nice on the phone, he came off to me..as arrogant and I went with another moving company. He gave me an estimate of 5-6 hours for a move that took less than 2 1/2 for them to move in and told me it was a waste of his time do it for less than th3 $600.00. They've gotten good reviews, and I'm sure they're good but being in business, I couldn't get pass the initial call. A real turnoff! read more

I totally agree with Darlene. Like her, however, I didn't use these people, so maybe they are better in person. No one seems to have had issues with the actual moving process itself, just the lack of planning and professionalism. The biggest drawback for me was that this company has a 3.5 hour minimum, resulting in a huge overcharge for my partial move. (I only need movers for my large furniture items, and other places have estimated a much shorter move.) Plus, like Darlene said, the guy who emailed me needs to work on his 'people skills.' He basically told me that because some of my furniture was from IKEA, it would probably end up broken! Here's some of the message, in case you don't believe it: "So first off let me say to be careful with the IKEA stuff. Ask any mover and they will tell you it is very easily breakable, and often shouldn't be taken apart. In fact, it often shouldn't be moved as it is so poorly made. Not trying to insult you at all, as I have some of their stuff as well, but just warning you to be careful and to note that any move involving a lot of IKEA stuff, it is rare that something doesn't fair well because of the low quality of the stuff." Call me crazy, but if I were a moving company I would try to give prospective customers the impression that my people would be careful NOT to break their stuff, no matter where it was purchased. Not to worry, though, because I'll be saving so much money by using a less expensive, more professional company, that I'll be able to afford some brand new stuff from Jordan's! read more
