It was a treat to finally come back for a family member's birthday dinner. We sat inside which I don't remember having been in, and it's a nice calming space and not too busy. The menu is a bit different from before, but just as impressive. All of us went for this excellent fixed dinner option of NY strip steak in a delicious sauce, baguettes, a great salad, and bottomless frites! You could also substitute the steak for mussels. We also got a side order of spinach and started with lemon garlic herb escargot, which I remember from before and tasted just as wonderful and rich as it always had. Everything was delicious, and the service was great too. They even brought us a slice of butter cake with ice cream which I loved. While it isn't the easiest to find or get to, Rochambeau is a superb restaurant in Back Bay that comes highly recommended.

We actually went on a Friday morning, but the server told us the menu is the same, they were just less busy. We did make a reservation, and for the weekend it may be needed. They have a great spritz list for brunch, and both breakfast/brunch as well as lunch options. Some of the plates are quite large, and could be shared, but they have a few lighter options. And oh, the hash browns! This was one of my favorite things I ate on our trip to Boston. Crispy outside, the right soft potato inside, and buttery without being greasy. Everything else was very good, I had the breakfast BLT, but it will be the potatoes that would bring me back.

Walking in, it's cute, nicely decorated, and cozy! We were quickly greeted and then sat. We were there for my birthday and when our server walked up, she had two glasses of bubbles, which was a very nice surprise and wish me a happy birthday! The menu is loaded with many appetizing options and the food we saw on nearby tables helped us confirm that they know what they're doing in the kitchen here! We started by splitting a bowl of clam chowder. Our server had this brought out in two bowls, even though it was a split and it looked fantastic! The first taste was great! I loved the essence of bacon and smokiness in that spoonful. The potato's texture was great, soft, and not over-cooked, but loaded with flavor! The thickness of the chowder's soup was exactly what I expect from a traditional New England Clam Chowder. Definitely one I enjoyed! Next up was the swordfish for my wife and the pappardelle for me. Both looked amazing when they came out. Wife said her swordfish was one of the best she's ever had. It surely looked outstanding! My pasta was incredible! A very rich bolognese, which was clearly stewed down and was amazing! The whipped ricotta on top when mixed in helped make it creamy too - definitely amazing!! I was stuffed from what we enjoyed so we couldn't stay for dessert, but we did love everything we had. Service was great and friendly too. Definitely would return!

We had a 7:15 reservation on a Friday night. We arrived at 7:05, and the restaurant was FULL. The hostess greeted us and told us our table was being prepared. I am happy to say we were seated on time at a beautiful table for 4. The decor and atmosphere were really beautiful. It had a strong neighborhood feel that is remarkably unique. Our server introduced herself and took our drink order. My wife had a tropical Negroni, and I ordered a Vieux Carré. The drinks were generously sized and well made. We ordered our meals. We started with Burrata Toast and Oysters Rockefeller. The oysters were placed on a covered plate to contain the smoke. The presentation was only eclipsed by the oysters' flavor. The burrata toast was large enough to share between the four of us. The presentation was also beautiful, and the flavors were superb. Our entrees included: herb-crusted halibut, steak frites, the signature 1928 burger, and a gorgeous short rib with some fabulous crispy Brussels sprouts. We shared a single Sticky coffee pudding for dessert. All I can say is that the food and libations were superb, and the service was superb. It is not inexpensive, but no more so than any upscale restaurant in Boston. I would take the few recent negative reviews with a grain of salt. I have spent more and received less at a couple of spots in Boston. We will certainly return to 1928. I would love to try eating at the bar on our next visit.

We ordered the shishitos, panzanella salad, sole with summer squash and black rice , and the lobster ravioli with a spicy sauce. Panzanella stole the show in the appetizer round! So fresh. Clean ingredients and everything together was just the perfect bite. 12/10. Shishitos were good, but nothing seriously different than any other shishitos I've had before. Lobster ravioli had the largest chunks of claw meat (see pictures), and the inside was creamy with more meat, and the sweet lobster paired great with the spicy tomato sauce. The sole won the entree round though, as it literally melted in your mouth. And the picatta style with capers was *chefs kiss* Boston's North End is so cute, great to walk after dinner, and there are so many little pastry shops if you want a sweet treat after dinner. We had a 6:15 reservation on a Friday which was unusually early for us but we were grabbing dinner before an event. Neither one of us were particularly dressed up but we were surprised by how casual some of the customers were dressed (casual graphic tshirts and backwards hats, etc.). I know it's becoming less and less common for restaurants to have dress codes but I was surprised that they allowed backwards hats (or baseball hats in general to be honest). The bar area and high top tables seemed to be more casual and seat yourself. We had a wonderful experience. I will say that I wouldn't recommend this spot if you are in a rush (unless you are planning to just grab a quick drink at the bar). We didn't order a ton of food but our meal was spaced out quite a bit (not by request) and it did take awhile for drinks and food to come. We personally didn't mind as we had intentionally made an early reservation so that we wouldn't feel rushed but it is something to keep in mind if you have a tighter timeline. In many ways it was nice to not feel as though we were being rushed for a table turn. The staff were wonderful - everyone from the bussers, to the hosts, to the managers, to the servers were lovely. They seemed to all be working together and very in tune with guests' needs.

We thought a drink by the water sounded great. Para Maria is just across the street from a waterfront spot that is very popular, so they don't have unobstructed water views, but we knew the water was there. And on a hot summer day in mid-August, they had the big garage doors open to the outside. It felt like we were somewhere beautiful and relaxing on vacation. We took two seats at their very large bar (which was not very busy at all on a Friday in the afternoon) and ordered a couple of drinks. Mine was their Picosita (Lalo Tequila, Ancho Reyes, Mango, Jalapeno, and Tajin rim), which was perfect for a summer day. I'd love to return with a group, because their margarita pitchers come in lots of flavors/styles (classic, strawberry, lychee, guava, coconut, and spicy), and that would be a great thing to share with friends on the patio of the bar. We didn't eat on this occasion, but I'd be happy to return for more drinks and maybe a bite to eat next time!

Ironically, the people next to us at the bar were complaining about everything from Service to the Drinks to the food when it came out. I was skeptical and wondered if we made a mistake.
