There's only two types of people who could dislike this place, sociopaths and people who sleep with their ass in the air. I've been coming here longer than I can remember. I could be convinced that my conception happened here. I thought I had depression, but it turns out I just haven't had a pie from here in a while. The one in Fitchburg makes their sauce a little sweeter and it makes me speak Italian; I don't even know Italian. The people working don't seem like a lively bunch, but then again, if I had to make some fine pizza pie all day without being able to eat a slice from every one, I'd look like someone crapped in my cornflakes too. I had high hopes for this pizzeria, especially with the knowledge of their pizza sauce being sweet. What I didn't know, was that their sauce tastes like pure sugar. I've never had a traditional pizza taste more like a dessert pizza in all my life (and this is coming from someone that actually loves sweet dough/sweet sauce pizza, but this was just ridiculously overdone). The worst customer service I've experienced at Espresso in 56 year. It is clearly posted on the internet and on the door that they close at 10 P.M. I called to order a pIzza at 9:30 P.M. I got the recording stating that they were closed. On the way to pick up food at another establishment, I dropped in and asked the manager Tim, the son of the owner why he closed early. I'm giving all five stars because I think it's 5-star pizza. If I were having a party and didn't have funds for a more upscale menu, I'd be ordering Espresso's. Pizza is huge, sweet sauce (love it), moderate amount of cheese. To my liking it's the perfect pizza. There are drawbacks to Espresso's, but I didn't want to not give five stars for the five star pizza. I will say the drawbacks: counter staff tend to not be polite. Place is always busy which can take a toll on cleanliness. They don't deliver and it's hard to get parking to run in and pickup an order. So basically, to enjoy the five star pizza you have to meter park, hope your car stays safe on a sketchy Lowell side street, and eat in a packed pizza parlor where the counter staff are a little rude. Espresso is so god damn inconvenient, but sadly, it's kind of worth it; especially in a city starving for good pizza. Firstly, I will disclaim this with I think this is 5-star pizza. However, the fact that they don't take debit, nor do they deliver - earns them a 4-star rating. I'm really lazy, so I don't plan on ordering from here a lot simply because of that. The pizza itself is really good; the best I've had in Lowell. The crust is puffy and crispy at the same time - probably the best quality of the pizza. The sauce is good (a little sweet) but good. The cheese and toppings are also above average. Although I risk my girlfriend's sanctity by playing rape-roulette with their drunken and perverted clientele, I think it's worth the risk for one of the most delicious pies in Lowell. We got a bunch of pizzas from Espresso for the office when we moved into our new space a few months ago. It's basically another hole in the wall local pizza/sub joint that seem to be everywhere in the Boston area. You can tell we likes our pizza around these parts. The experience: It was within walking distance to the office which was a plus for me cuz there isn't much parking (only on street) around the shop. The place was pretty dirty when we came in, but the dining room was full and there was a line. The line moved quickly though and we were in and out in about 5 minutes with our order of 6 pizzas. The bill came out to actually be cheaper than what they quoted us on the phone. Back at the office, we all commented on how sweet the sauce was. I tried both the pepperoni and the sausage pizzas and was satisfied. One person commented that it was too greasy, but isn't pizza supposed to be greasy? I took some home and ate it the next day and it was still good, exactly how leftover pizza should be. Bottom Line: I'd eat there again, but I'm not going to feel like I missed out if I don't. read more

This is my FAVORITE local pizza joint. Espresso's pizza is like no other I swear. Honestly, I think I could have the pizza every day of my life if I could. I am a huge supporter of local businesses and this place takes the cake for sure in all of Lowell. It's right in downtown and not too hard to find. On to the pizza! I love the sauce-dough-cheese ratio. I am a simple girl when it comes to pizza. Cheese is ooey-gooey and has the perfect texture. Nice and cheesy. The dough is can sometimes be a bit tough but I guess it depends on who makes it, you know? The sauce is a big topic here on the reviews. It really is a love or hate kinda thing. I love how it is sweet. It goes perfectly with the cheese, IMO. The establishment is old has a classic feel. Nothing too fancy. There isn't a need for anything special because the food here shines above it. This four star review only applies to Lowell. In the real world, I'd probably give it 2. Here are some things you should know. -It's the sweetest pizza sauce ever. Basically dessert pizza. -The employs are usually rude and/or unfriendly. I once ordered a soda and the guy said "what are you looking at?" (not a joke) -It's dirt cheap and they close very early. -The seating is very rudimentary. -Did I mention the sauce? Espresso also has subs, the only i've tried was eggplant parm (I'm mostly vegetarian). It was pretty good but messy. Their pizza cheese and crust is above average for Lowell. You either love it or hate it. I LOVE IT! I've been coming here for the past 18 years, when they sold pizza by the slice for $1.00. The pizza has a sweet sauce that some people loathe but I on the other hand is a HUGE fan. The plain cheese pizza is my favorite but sometimes I opt for the bacon and pineapple. Parking is a bit tough to get carry out so we always try to go with 2 people and double park. I wish they delivered! I like Nathan F.'s comment on the Lowell disclaimer. I totally agree - but for this area, it's possibly the tastiest pizza in town. Stretchy, chewy, tasty mozarella, sweet sauce, and an almost pastry-like crust that is always thoroughly cooked - no "doughy surprise" in there. And still, the crust is very crispy considering it's of the hand-tossed variety. No refills on the $1.05 small sodas, though, is a bummer. And no public restrooms. Yes, it's kind of a dive, but what pizza place isn't? Plus at $1.25 for a slice of cheese pizza, you can't go wrong. Heck, have two. The pepperoni tastes great as well - didn't try any other toppings. If you're lucky, yoou'll get your slice in about 2 minutes. If they need to make one from scratch, figure 10 minutes. I'm not a fan of pizza, and not yet have I found good pizza like the pizza from Miami. Until my boyfriend dragged me into this place. I walk in into this super low key, cash, worn out looking spot and order a large cheese pizza. I had a Greek salad with grilled chicken. The pizza's crust was fluffy and soft. The thin pizza was delicious. The combination between the "sweet" tomato sauce and the saltiness of the cheese was an incredible combination.. right there and then is when I learned that the sauce and a good dough it's what makes or breaks a pizza, forget the toppings, is all on the soft dough and good flavor of the sauce. My salad was really good, considering it's a pizza joint, the salad was above expectations and the grille chicken was great. As it was our first time ordering from here, I played it safe with a large pie with half pepperoni to gauge the base quality of the pizza itself. Everything else is great about this pizza (I'd give them 3.5 stars if I could), but it almost is like "dessert pizza" due to the sweetness of the sauce. Great Great pizza. The place is always packed because everyone in the area knows its good. Overall food is great, customer service might be a little off but I feel its only because they simply are trying to help everyone and that takes a lot of work. Now on to the pizza. Espresso's make a special kind of pizza, very different. The sauce is unique, and makes it delicious and well worth your time there. The slices are super generous, too, so you're getting your money's worth. All the usual drinks are available, as well as some staple sides, etc. The only qualm I have with Espresso's is that they don't deliver.
