Finally got to try the famous Joanie's, and it was so worth it! I got lucky and was able to get the last pie of the day (at 6pm). I would recommend calling ahead to make sure/order ahead. Excellent pizza- take out only. I called in a pickup order when I was in the area. I laughed when I saw the Yelp description as 'divey'- yep, in a good way. For example, the menu is written on brown paper and taped up. Clean place. But don't let that distract you from the excellent pizza. 2nd visit to Joanie's. Exceptional food. The pizza triumvirate, crust, sauce and cheese, combined with high quality toppings make their pizza ever so delicious. I ordered the pepperoni pie. Crust is thin with a bubbled rim, offering both a crunch and a bite. Sauce is well balanced, perfect. Not too much cheese, just the right amount. Joanie's is a take out joint and service is that of a well oil machine. Pepperoni was high quality and abundant. Also tried their meatballs which were also excellent. Parking near the restaurant can be challenging, but park out back if you need to. If you are willing to walk, there is ample parking. read more

We found Joanie's after suggestion from Dave Portnoy, my new acupuncture office last fall made it an easy choice we drive past it. I forget what El Presidente rated them, let me tell you they do not disappoint, we have been going ever since If you like NY style pizza, nice thin crispy crunch on the well done side, with smooth tasting sauce and yummy cheese, then you have to try Joanie's pizza In Chelmsford. We just realized they have meatballs and chicken parm subs. We will be trying their other food next week on Acupuncture day. Stay tuned. Best to call and order it, in case they sell out. We ate about two-thirds of the pizza right there in the car--it was that good. Ended up going back in to order another one! The pizza had just the right amount of cheese, not overloaded with sauce, and the thin crust had the perfect crunch while staying soft around the edges. Super satisfying all around. Small family-run pizza place. I'm not from this town so I did a ton of research before picking up a pizza from this spot. Found out that they haven't done online orders since they blew up in popularity about a year ago. Called my order in on a Friday at 3:30 and was told my order would be ready in 15 minutes. Pizza was as advertised. Good "undercarriage", thin, crispy crust, perfect amount of cheese, and awesome sauce. No cannolis though, despite what the menu and online says. Did you ever have pizza that was SO good, you were still eating thirds and fourths the next day? 'Cause....we just did. Ya know, I was born in NY. But I grew up in NH the majority of my childhood. And all throughout that time, as well as returning back here 3 years ago, I have never been fortunate enough to come across legit GOOD NY style pizza. Then....I happened by this place via my desperate searches on Yelp. And it became a life changing experience. What I can say about this pizza can pretty much be summed up in one word: perfection! At long last....we have found a pizzeria that gets it right. From the ultra thin crust base, to the savory, slightly spicy, tomato sauce (they even put the correct amount so as not to generate soggy slices), and brilliantly toasted cheese....*mwah* chef's kiss! These guys deserve a gold star! TWO!! I tried both pepperoni and cheese to see which I liked better and.....I never made a decision. Because I love both equally for different reasons. The cheese is EXACTLY what you'd expect from a legit NY style pizzeria. The pepperoni are plentiful, delicious, and give the pizza an extra "kick", if you're into that sort of thing. My one complaint about this establishment? The POS system is....incomplete. See, it works...if your card has tap-to-pay. Unfortunately, for SOME reason, they do not currently have Apple Pay. I know. It makes no sense to me either. Btw, I need to clarify something here. Joanie's actually has private parking as opposed to street parking (unless the parallel parking spots in the lot count). I'll have to get the Yelp "powers that be" to adjust that feature on the page. But I was really impressed with their giant pizza ovens in the back, fire a' blazin'. When you see these slices, you'll think you're getting brick oven pizza. I mean, it's damn near close. In any event, wifey and I were both very pleased and will return here for a lot more pizza take-away nights. 16 mile drive for us but....totally worth it! So, if you're a New Hampshirite who's sick of Greek style-only pizza like me (or better yet - a Chelmsford resident), this is the hot spot doing NY style pizzerias everywhere justice. Been quite a bit but was running errands with my 15 year old and swung by Joanie's. He walked in, looked at menu, then decided he wanted Dave's Hot Chicken. He asked for a bite of the Ballpark and was blown away. Loved the crisp crust and the peppers and onions with the sausage. It was all new to him. He declared it his new favorite pizza! read more

Ordered and waited 10 minutes for our pizza at noon on a Saturday. There are two or three seats in this small operation to wait for your pizza, but basically this is a "get in, get out" pizza kitchen. There is no "vibe" and no place to eat there. Small parking lot. Okay yes, I didn't know about this place until David from barstool sports came and said it was the best pizza he had and ate the whole box alone lol. So Thursday, I came around 12:10 and they already had a line but that didn't stop me from trying the classic pizza. Everyone in line wanted to try the pizza out but what helped was they weren't taking phone orders so that was good for everyone in line and inside waiting for their order. The spot is located in a shopping area with parking along the businesses but gets very full during lunch. Now let's talk about the pizza. The classic pizza was amazing! Love how thin it was, and how little they used of the red sauce. When biting into a slice it literally tasted like butter was mixed into the dough or red sauce. I don't know but it was sooo good and I'll be back to try other things. Be sure to give this place a try if you're craving pizza! Still great and probably my favorite Massachusetts pizza in its breed. I've progressed from slices to whole pies and have done so prior to the famous Dave Portnoy One Bite pizza review that made this place famous well beyond its environs. Fantastic, especially the Joanie 'Roni with pepperoni and minced garlic. Really nice blend of ingredients, with the garlic very noticeable and the tomato more than holding its own versus the cheese (that's how I like it). Portnoy made the lines longer, the waits longer, and slices no longer a thing, but plan your visit, get a whole pie and enjoy. I think it's worth it. Note: they're pretty good about forecasting the wait times, so you can do some errands and come back for pickup. read more

Like most coming in, I didn't come here until the barstool's review. As the host said "spectacular", not good, not great but spectacular really sums it up. My husband and I were able to go mid-afternoon(2pm) on a Thurs. We were expecting not to have our pizza until the evening but we were pleasantly surprised to only have to come back in 25 mins for the pizza. The place was already busy with some in line and others waiting to pick up. It's a no frills take out place. We got a classic and pepperoni pizza. The pepperoni pizza came with small slices of garlic that looks like it gets roasted with the pizza. The crust is crunchy with a nice chair and holds the pizza well. We were both big fans of the pepperoni but the classic cheese was good. Can definitely see the hype. Kind of wish I had know about this place earlier! read more

Yeah this lived up to the " Dave " hype 100%. Best pizza not just in Massachusetts but also New Hampshire Maine VT area etc. I don't care how far your drive is: you need to go here. The issue is, you won't be the only one excited to go here... place is mobbed by people daily now ever since the review. I'd recommend going around 1:45 on Wednesday for best chance at shortest wait... Also, the simpler your order, the faster you get it. Perhaps the hype will die down soon... or perhaps not! I'm (almost) happy I didn't know about this place til now! This place has been put on the map by Dave from Barstool Sports. I watched his review online and it sent my husband and I driving out of our way to try it. Happy to report they are taking phone orders again. I arrived at 12:40pm on Thursday and ordered a Roni and a cheese pizza. I was told 1:15pm and it was done right on time. All the workers were super friendly! The inside was packed with people waiting. There were a few chairs but no where to eat inside. We each ate a slice in the car, like monsters, and went back for another. The pizza itself was thin, crispy, and cooked to perfection. We were blown away. If you're in the Chelmsford area when they're open, you got to try this place out! read more

Great little pizza place serving NY/NJ style pizza. IMO the best pizza in Lowell and the greater Boston area. Every time I am in Lowell I make a point to visit. It's a classic NY crust with a thin crust with a good undercarriage (Davey Pageviews), crispy that is still slightly moist and chewy inside. Well balanced sauce with that fresh tomato rate and a hint of basil. High quality mozzarella tops it. I'm picky about my sausage and this is delicious, ground, tender with a hint of spice.
