Encinitas Ranch Grill has some of the most friendliest staff members. I was schedules to play there with my Company Jerome's. I was in a rush, and dropped off by my wife. I had forgotten my wallet, and was at the wrong golf course. Jeremy a staff member was very helpful, and drove me around to find were I needed to go, we had great conversations about sports, and me distress about my situation. I went to the bar and grill, and spoke to a person named Kim, and explained to her my situation, that I couldn't pay for a beer, and she said to pay her when I got back my wallet. Had a Group lesson with Matt McConnin through Groupon. Matt was energetic, informative and gave us great insight into the finer points of Golf. He made it a fun and is a great teacher of the sport. I have benefitted from this lesson in Technique and Scoring and I am really enjoying working on the things he demonstrated and left to practice. Was very disappointed with this course the fairways were very beat up and very unkept i understand the drought situation in California but seriously I have seen grass on freeway shoulders in better shape and also the pace of play is not kept up with the marshals need to do their job. Not sure why Yelp knows I played here. Real fun track with nice people working here. Good value with most of the normal public golf course issues (slow play, people not fixing ball marks, raking traps. Get a JC card and book an early time. The pace of play is just fine if you get out with the early crowd. Great course for the money (resident or JC member) with some pretty interesting hols on the back 9. Wide open fairways that don't punish you if you lose the ball right. I live here in Encinitas and My friends and I play here once a week and I love it. Today though our starter "Mike" was the biggest jerk with a severe attitude. He yelled at the group in front of us for being late to the tee box. They had obviously not played here before and were Spanish-speaking and definitely from out of town. They drove right past him to go to the first tee box and he still yelled at them because they didn't check in...when he could've stop them as they drove by. I guess he was too occupied yelling at them over the intercom and didn't see them go by....Then he was giving us attitude for some reason and it rubbed us the wrong way and gave our start to the round and uneasy vibe. Then he hassled the single that was playing with us while I was teeing off. Very bad etiquette to say the least. Then we told him to beat it because we were trying to get going on the round and we wanted to finish before dark and he replied in a very snide way "well you're not gonna finish"...which we did by the way lol...I have never had any issues with anyone ever here as I am a local and have been playing here for 20+ years...and today might have been a fluke but "Mike" is a real a-hole. Hmmm...How to sum this up? Pretty slow play...slow greens (conditions of the greens were actually pretty smooth though)...over priced for the conditions but not for the views. The shop attendent said the course was in the best condition ever. The greens were like putting on fast velcro. At around $100.00 a round, I've experienced much better golf courses. We had an absolute blast at Encinitas Ranch. We stopped in early to hit up the driving range & immediately found a spot. After the range we stopped into the cafe / restaurant & we were greeted by two very lovely ladies. One of them made us double Don Julio Blanco margaritas that were delish. We stocked up on some fireball & were excited to start our round ! The starter was very sweet (I wish I had gotten names but everyone was super inviting & wonderful). All three women had already made the experience a breeze. The views from each tee were beautiful. You get a nice ocean breeze your entire round which was beyond refreshing. Jewels on the beverage cart was the absolute sweetest. She made sure to check on us regardless of our later afternoon tee time before the sun was going down & stocked us up with shots & some IPAS with a huge bag of ice for the road. She was so positive & bubbly. Every cart has blue tooth speakers built in ... pretty bada$$. We will be back !! read more

This course is a very good value. Beware they are remodeling the traps so the layout is odd (one temprorary hole). Overall I thought the greens and fairways were quite respectable for a public course. Pace of play was poor but that could have just been a function of the people I was stuck behind. read more

I go here everyday after work to practice. I hardly ever play here anymore because of their ridiculous price. Pace of play is so so, not too bad. The staff that works here are like robots. Don't expect to make friends with these people unless you already know them. No personalities at all! and it almost make me not want to come here. I mean, you see someone 5 days a week for almost a year now and you same losers can't even remember my name or even say hello???... Lol. The course is ok, views are great. For someone out of town it might be a nice round. But for people around the area, I suggest looking elsewhere.. read more

My buddies & I played at Encinitas Ranch yesterday, finally the marshals have relaxed out there, by just letting us just play the game we finished in 4 1\2 hours. but i think Encinitas ranch finally figured out that pissing people off was not the answer...The cart lady sherry, was great, she made sure she had seen us 3 times, just like the starter told us she would.. Sherry took good care of us & made this a great experiences ,Sherry thanks for loaning my partner your jacket that was a nice thing to do. There is a thankyou gift in the jacket pocket. My partner was very impressed with your service .. Very nice course around carlsbad and nice view overlooking ocean. Fairway is wide open and greens are well made. Better than Twin oaks.

5 Stars for the views, a twilight round at EZ Ranch is a great way to catch a sunset. As for the course itself, well it's pretty easy and the condition is okay. The greens were in decent shape, which is of utmost importance, same goes for fairways. There is no rough (just grass that isn't kept up as well as the rest) and not too many tress, therefore making the course easy as you can drive the ball all over the place without penalty. The average golfer should score well here. Twilight rates@ $45 are fine, but I wouldn't pay much more that that for this place. I was expecting a little stronger challenge than I got from Encinitas Ranch. read more

One of my favorite courses to play in San Diego. Driving range and practice area are decent, but the course is great. They call it "Easy Ranch". It's fairly wide open. Grip it & rip it. Greens are big, and undulated. Pay close attention to pin placements. They make a difference in club selection. Putts always break towards the ocean... which you will have some amazing views of while you play. It's pricey, but worth it. read more

This place is a complete laugh. There are good things like Mike who does some club fitting. You see him set up near the driving range on Sundays. Nice, decent fellow. The latest...I'm hitting balls on the range (I will never pay there current rates to golf there) and I see the clowns that work there giving free buckets of balls to their buddies. There's nothing wrong with having friends but it is a kick in the pants to people who pay 10$ for a large bucket of balls. read more

The course is a good match for you if you can play double bogey at an executive course. The course is well maintained and an extra forward tee has been added in front of the normal "ladies tee" to accommodate beginners or shorter hitters. Beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean from several of the holes. Intro to golf courses are offered, 5 for $99, on Thursday afternoons and Saturday mornings--use the coupons as quickly as you want or spread your lessons out. Excellent instructors. Club house restaurant is nice with indoor and outdoor seating. A little more expensive than The Crossing or Marine's Memorial, less expensive than Aviara or laCosta. As a resident of encinitas ranch, I frequent this course for driving range purposes. two things...... 1. employees have some of the worst attitudes I have ever witnessed. and while many outside of encinitas are unaware of their financial shortcomings, their customer service is one thing that could possibly explain the lack of rounds of golf played here. 2. Course is not easy, but not challenging. for the price charged, it is not worth your money. spend the extra 30-40 bucks and play torrey. read more

Played on Thursday, 10/1/15, for the first time after joining their JC Players Card. The putting green is NOT an indication of the greens on the course. So don't be fooled. The greens were HORRIFIC, still recovering from aerification and heavy watering with not enough sand topdressing. Numerous ball marks and pitting in the green made us just pick up our balls with a given 2 putts. Even if you were 18" from the hole, it was not a sure thing. The 3rd hole fringe was sparse with turf on the lower side. Some serious resodding needed. Tee boxes turf was fluffy where you don't want it to be. Needs a good verticutting and lower mowing height. In fairness, may be due to the drought challenges. Good fairway turf but lies were not tight. Sand in bunkers were adequate but not particularly deep. Pace of play was slow even though the course Marshall did his best. Allow for a minimum of 4.5 hrs to play. Definitely NOT a walker course. A few holes have blind shots so watch out for those shots front & behind you. Many of the Green/White tee markers were sharing the same tee positions to save wear & tear on the tees, I'm guessing. Staff was friendly. Cart beverage girl came around about 3x per side. Prices were OK. Personally, I wouldn't had paid more than $25/round due to the greens bumpiness. If the staff had informed us of the turf conditions on the greens, this review might be more favorable. I wouldn't even think of playing there again until the last week of October to give the greens a chance to heal and roll true. And if they don't heal properly, it would be time to complain to management and better yet, just take your golfing elsewhere. read more

Excellent customer service! Trying to finish in the last light of the day, the head of my Ping Eye 2 five iron flew into the scrub off of the 16th tee and by then it was too dark to see anything in the bushes. I returned at my next opportunity two days later and the Pro Shop arranged for a really pleasant cart guy to drive me out to the scene. No luck but I was still impressed by their helpfulness. Then I had the California Burger in the Clubhouse and it was really enjoyable, tasty and juicy! The natural edge tables in there are really cool, too. read more

Have lived in SD 27 years and I have never seen the ranch in the awesome condition it is right now. Last time I played here was over 1 year ago and the course was in rough shape. I was hesitant to go back. I am very thankful I did. The bathrooms were spotless, the fairways, rough and greens were in EXCELLENT shape. Don't play until they revise their marshal policy and tee time spacing. Three or four groups on tee boxes is the norm.

The course was in horrible condition and to boot they FALSE ADVERTISED THE COST. There was no cart fee listed when I made the tee time. The rate was quoted at $38. Then the bait and switch to $52 ($14 cart fee). HORRIBLE. The pro shop guy just looked at me like I should have known. NOT RECOMMENDED. read more

Pace of play is a serious problem here nearly every time we play. The starter tells you to keep up a reasonable pace, but if you're stuck behind a slow group with a clear hole in front of them, the "Marshalls" refuse to do anything about it. We had an aggressive group hitting into us behind us and a "get down on all fours and line up every putt" bunch in front of us, so it was a pretty miserable experience being sandwiched in all day. The pace of play and the "Marshalls" at this course are a real joke. Plan to stay away from Encinitas Ranch for a while, even though I'm a JC member. read more

People in the pro shop are great but the pace of play sucked. Each of the last two times we've played here we arrived at the first tee at our assigned tee time to find the foursome in front of us hadn't teed off yet. Both times we played we were stuck behind a slow foursome with an aggressive foursome behind us that hit into to us. Complained to marshal both times & he just laughed it off. The last time we played they hit our cart as we were leaving a green. Two holes later, they almost hit the cart again. Since the marshal wouldn't do anything, I spoke to the foursome myself. They weren't happy and still dogged us the entire game, but they stopped hitting into us. Not a pleasant experience. read more

poor experience! ...... we were asked to start early since the threesome of "employees" were running late....declined and started on time.....after five holes the late threesome were on our heels, no problem we were going to to let them play thru in a couple of holes.... on the next hole one of the guys was was throwing his arms in the air at us on the tee as we flagged the hole... keeping cool we were on our plan of letting them play thru next hole when the starter asked us to let them thru..... granted we were still 8 minutes "ahead" of schedule.... we let them go ahead. they finished the hole and didn't even look at us, acknowledge us, or even THANK US.... keep in mind that they are employees of the golf course and they didn't even thank us..... being representatives of the course..... poor customer experience from the threesome today on 11/10/14 at 703 am.... get ur act together boys and golf course. read more

Played today 10/22/2014 and paid $76. Got the usual pressure to buy a $250 JC card. They did not understand "no thank you". Proceeded to the starter stand at 6:45 for a 6:54 tee time. No starter was present. A Japanese foursome in front of us (6:45 tee time) did not know what to do in the absence of the starter and any signs so they proceeded to the first tee. However, the course starts on the 10th tee on Wednesdays but they could not know that without any signs or a starter. Then the starter shows up with an attitude. He yells at the foursome down on the first tee"don't you know to wait here (at the starter stand)?". They are obviously confused so he insults them saying, "don't those guys understand English?". It wasn't a question! This guy has a seriously bad attitude and does not understand customer service. He needs to go. We played in 3 hours 50 minutes. The course was in good shape for Encinitas Ranch. We talked to one employee on the course who was friendly. In the past our foursome played here once a week. Now we play maybe four to five times a year. This is due to terrible customer service, arrogant unfriendly employees (the good ones seem to leave), the course condition (it is better now) and the cost. They need to bring in a Nordstrom's Customer Service trainer or alternatively play a few rounds at the Crossings and see friendly helpful customer service in action. read more

The staff especially the older gentleman who checked me in after I had been waiting in line for 20 min when there was only one customer in front of me was SUPER rude . I have lived in Encinitas for 2 years and was actually a member of Encinitas Ranch last year and my address was listed on the computer to reflect where I lived but my I.D. has a different address. I explained that I was under my correct address in the computer system and he refused to look at that and said your I,D. doesnt reflect that you live in Encinitas and told me that maybe its time to update your license so he charged me full rates instead of my local discount.Then at the break we went to get sandwiches and I asked the cashier to charge me seperate she got upset and said that it takes too long and I said nevermind. I still had to stand and wait on my food for at least 15 minutes which I am guessing would have been enough time for her to seperate the chk since nobody else came in to order. So if you have any other options to play golf anywhere in Southern California do it I wouldnt play here again even if I got to play with Tiger Woods. Also the fairways look like C.S.I was doing a crime scene investigation with all the chalk outlines and someone let a herd of cattle chew them up. read more
