No rum. Only domestic beers. Disappointed. Used deli slice ham on sandwich. My husband and I ordered two different sandwiches and they both looked and tasted alike. Maybe the bread was different. This restaurant is misleading. I don't see the Cuban cuisine quality in this menu at all. From past pictures and the amount of dust on the glass globes this place has gone downhill. I do not recommend. read more

Wonderful! We ordered on line and had grub hub deliver to our Airbnb... the oxtails, marinated pork, beans and rice were hot and delicious. We even made a call to the restaurant to ask for a specific salad dressing and they were great! such great food. read more

We were there last night and were very confused when the waiter told us that the place that calls it self a "Rum Bar" and specializes in "craft cocktails" has no liquor license. We did not even get to order food. We're looking forward to a Cuban night and had to go somewhere else. read more

I've been going to E 62 for lunch off and on for about a year. Over that time the quality of the food has declined. It was wonderful when I first went, but my experience last week left much to be desired. The pork shoulder was cut into bite size pieces that contained hunks of fat and was very overcooked. The empanadas were dry and not very tasty. I wouldn't have been surprised to find the pork had been cooked a day or days earlier. The consensus of the party of 8 I was with is that they had noticed this gradual slide in quality as well, and we as a group aren't inclined to return anytime soon. It is sad because initial quality was excellent. Service was good, but parking can be a challenge. read more

Oh my goodness so disappointed. The atmosphere seemed so great before the food came I thought this would be my new favorite restaurant! Not... Every dish we got was over cooked and greasy Sorry! read more

I have been wanting to eat at Embargo 62 because I love a good Cuban sandwich and happily had my chance last week. The first thing you notice is the decor. I love it. There are wooden tables, with mismatched worn metal chairs, lots of colored glass and even a huge fish on the wall. But what I loved the most was the wall that was made to look like a real bodega. It is painted in blue and white with a roof line and the food actually comes out of the small window. Super charming, such a nice touch. My husband has eaten there for lunch before, so he knew to order the ceviche. For drinks I started with a Cuba Libre and I forgot to take note of what my husband ordered. My Cuba Libre was good, it arrived in a metal cup. However, when I saw the table next to us get their mojitos, I knew that was going to be my next drink. The Ceviche was excellent. I could have easily ate the whole plate and just called it a day. It was seasoned perfectly with a hint of cumin. The plantain chips were crispy and the perfect accompaniment. My husband ordered the cuban sandwich and I ordered the medianoche. The Medianoche is basically the Cuban sandwich on a semi-sweet roll. They were both good and served with more plantain chips. Though I think next time I'll get mine on the authentic Cuban bread. Because there will definitely be a next time. read more

First time coming to Embargo 62. I love ethic food and it has been a while since I've had Cuban food. I had the Limonada de Guayada, Empanadas, & Pollo a La Plancha. It was delicious and I recommend this place. I hear they have Latin dance night as well. I am definitely coming back for that. read more

Love this place!! The Sunday brunch is fantastic, they have $7 bottomless mimosas with purchase of an entree. My boyfriend and I usually split the bistec al caballo (steak and eggs) and the torrejas, which is french toasts served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The food is always delicious and the live music is great! I've celebrated several birthdays here and it's always a great time and atmosphere. read more

I have loved this place since day 1. First off - the empanadas are incredible (but very filling, so only order if you have a party of 4 or more as an appetizer). Second - you can't beat a classic Cuban sandwich (I Get the Medianoche, myself), and the plantain chips are almost addictive. The Drinks are great; we have had the Mojitos, and my favorite is the classic Cuba Libre. Every time I go there, I want to visit Cuba. Great atmosphere, great crowd, a true original, and a great local gem. read more

Excellent Cuban food. Oxtail was so tender. The guava and cream cheese empanadas were a great finish. A few mojitos with it all makes for a complete meal. They also have a good selection of cigars that I'd like to try next time in. It's a great atmosphere. Come with friends, family and stay awhile. read more

Ok, so I'm cuban and from Miami.. and as a cuban food connoisseur, although the food was ok, it was cooked with way too much oil. There was oil everywhere, in the food, on the container.. in the bag. My husband was unable to eat la ropa vieja, my daughter was unable to eat las masitas de puerco ( I think they gave us greasy chicharrones in place of las masitas). The yuca mashed though and the palomilla were tasty although greasy. El lechón asado was good as well. #willgivethem.a.second chance read more

We love Embargo '62. It is, by far, one of my favorite restaurants in the Chattanooga area. The drinks are superb. I recommend the Lechen and Elena Ruz sandwich. Not complete without the sweet plantains! read more

This place is the best! The decor and atmosphere are amazing. You step off the street in trendy North Shore and suddenly you're in a quaint seaside bar in Cuba. And then there is the food. SO GOOD. Don't tell my mother in law, but their empanadas are way better than hers. I don't know what's in the mustard dipping sauce, but I want more of it. Always. Like, give me a spoon. And no Cuban meal experience would be complete without washing it down with a mojito, am I right? I love lots of fresh mint leaves in my mojitos and was thrilled that Embargo 62 does not skimp on their mint. Try their brunch sometime, too! Their amazing twist on French toast is a treat! You really just can't go wrong and it is an experience that sets it apart from other good dining in Chattanooga. Oh, and if you're a cigar smoker, you will love the fire pit porch area that's just right for enjoying that favorite Cuban past time of conversation and cigars. read more

The food here is pretty awesome and unique to the area! The bar/restaurant is really nicely laid out and designed! Wednesday nights and for special events often include salsa dance lessons. Happy hour is always happy, but pretty hefty price for drinks, this is a great place when the weather is nice to be outside or cool enough for dancing or a fire pit on the patio. Mojitos are pretty great here! read more

I weep as I write this. I now have an embargo on Embargo. The quality nosedived. I ordered from there several times within in the past year and it has been consistently bad. The last couple of times the empanadas were burnt to a crisp, the ceviche was so salty we had to throw it away, and we found a lot of human hair in our chicken and vegetables. That was the final straw. I called to inform them but the young woman who answered the phone just said "okay." I don't know if they got a new chef or had a change in management but I can no longer recommend them. read more

This is my FIRST EVER review on Yelp and I'm so glad that I get to review Embargo '62. I had the Oxtail with Yucca Mash and Cuban Bread. I wouldn't change it for anything--it was so flavorful. The mojito is incredible and refreshing. This was the BEST first meal in Chattanooga. read more

By far the best Cuban restaurant I have ever been to in the US. The owners are extremely friendly, the atmosphere resembles that of a true cantina with perfect cocktails and astonishing foods, from classic Cuban sandwiches and Cuba Libres to Oxtail dinners with Mojitos. This place is a staple of Chattanooga's unique side and a must visit for anyone looking to explore culinary options outside their normal palate. I've been here for brunch, dinner and their third birthday event and every time it's been absolutely fantastic. Can't wait to come back again! read more

Hands down my favorite place to take people when they come to visit. Consistent, lovely service and the food always blows me away. The croquettas are melt in your mouth savory. The mojitos and Cuba libres are incredible. I cannot speak more highly of this establishment. If you can go on a night where there is live music, absolutely do it. read more

Disappointing. I'm sad to say it, but it's true. The food is not terrible, but it's not authentic tasting Cuban food. It may not be as bad as Panera claiming to be soul food, but it is as bad as Taco Bell claiming to be real Mexican food. Skip Embargo if you're looking for the real thing. You won't find it here. read more

If you know nothing about Cuban food - you'll love this place. If you've ever eaten authentic Cuban food - not so much. Though to be fair I did't expect much authenticity in Chattanooga. I asked the server about the chef and apparently it this restaurant was started by a Cuban chef but it seems more like a concept he/she created a menu for and may no longer be involved in. The offerings are traditional - plantains, ropa veja, etc - but the flavoring are definitely more tailoered towards the non-Hispanic palette. The dishes lacked the flavors and spices that really bring Cuban food to light - the one exception being the beans which were tasty. The mojitos were extremely disappointing - just a bunch of mint stuffed in a glass. Again - if you know good Cuban or Hispanic food - save yourself a $100+ bill and go elsewhere. read more

Excellent vibe and a very friendly staff. A few good local beer options are in rotation. Music is very good in the background.

This was one of the slowest services I've ever received! We waited just over 45 minutes for one beer and it was the wrong one when it arrived, our food even came out first and there were only four tables in the building for the two servers! She barely came back to check on us as we finished our dinner or I could've told her the sides we ordered were wrong as well. Ceviche was mushy and gross, it tasted as though it was made days ago. This was a super disappointing experience! We will NOT be returning read more

I had such high hopes. This is a cute little place and when it's full of people with the patio open (in warmer weather) I'm sure it's a festive restaurant. The food was mediocre. The Croquettas seemed to be store bought and were a little mushy. The Bisteca Steak sandwich had almost no flavor. My husband and I are convinced the black beans came straight out of the can, no seasoning even added. The Cuban sandwich had potential to be good, however it wasn't pressed for very long and the meat inside wasn't even warm. Cuban food is usually seasoned so well and sadly this was not. And when I asked for hot sauce the gave me Sriracha, an Asian condiment! Granted I love the stuff, but not the flavor profile usually offered with Cuban food. The server was pleasant and the ambience was nice, thus the 2 stars. read more

We have been waiting for this place to open, as hubby is Cuban and we are both from Miami. Hubby had been then on opening night and was impressed with the Cuban sandwich - found out tonight the bread is shipped in from Miami! We ordered two Mojoito's - great with a lot of fresh mint! Hubby and I shared a Cuban sandwich and the Lechon. We were able to substitute black beans and rice for the Congris -yea. We wanted sweet plantains, but they were having a problem getting the right ripeness of bananas, so tostones were substituted, not my favorite!. We shared a flan that was very good! I believe this place can only get better.... It's been less than 2 weeks and they have been packed since they opened. We arrived a little before 6 and were able to get a seat at the bar immediately. Paul, their cigar guy and knows his stuff. You can buy cigars from him and enjoy them at an outside area. Hubby decided to have a cigar at their pit, while I enjoyed a glass of wine. We watched as the line grew to a wait time of 45 min. or more. Some people stayed and some decided to leave. The staff made a great attempt to get drink orders to those waiting as well as set up extra tables and seats in the waiting area? I am looking forward to my next visit, if you go on the weekends, go early or be prepared to wait a bit. read more

I can't give a review with no stars, so I'm giving this place one star. Seeing as to I wasn't given service, I honestly have no way to really comment on the food, so I can only comment on the really bad experience we received by walking in and being ignored. One thing I'd like to get clear is I never review on Yelp. I've worked for nearly a decade in the food industry and generally have a bad view of "foodies" that leave entitled and crappy reviews of restaurants. This is the first review I've ever written and it's unfortunate that it's a bad one. I've been told to visit Embargo by a few people and stopped in at 5:30p on a Saturday night. I knew it had Cuban food, but was unaware they were also a rum bar. In light of this, they might have been not ok with the fact that I had brought my 9 month old daughter with me, since it clearly wasn't really a family restaurant (although I saw one other family with a toddler at a table being served), because I can't think of any other reason that we received such crappy treatment. When we walked in, we asked if there were any high chairs and were told very brusquely by a waitress that they did not and we could seat ourselves. After doing that, we were ignored for what felt like ten minutes even though the restaurant was empty and there were plenty of waitresses loitering near the bar, talking amongst themselves. My husband kept asking to leave and while the wait soon became pretty embarrassing and uncomfortable, I kept urging him to wait for a few more minutes. When we were continually ignored (and it's not a big space; it's kind of hard not to spot new customers who come in), we just walked out. Again, I do realize some restaurants are not intended to be kid-friendly, but not having realized this place was one of them, I think we definitely could have been treated with more courtesy because I wouldn't bother visiting this place without my kid ever again. I've never really experienced this kind of disrespect at a restaurant, speaking as someone who's worked both back and front of house. read more

Nice atmosphere and friendly server. Food was good, but not unusually so. However - the wait time between order and arrival to our table was way too long for a Saturday lunch. There seemed to be an air of 'unorganization'. read more

Being from Florida, I've been spoiled most of my life, by always having several Cuban restaurants to choose from. Since moving to Chattanooga, this was the one food option I've missed more than any other. THANKFULLY Embargo 62 fills the gap left in our local food scene. So far, as of my second visit, I've thoroughly enjoyed everything I've tried (which is pretty unusual). You can tell everything was very fresh. It's pretty small place, has a covered patio area available when the weather is nice, and some lively Latin music playing for the proper atmosphere? Give this place a try! read more

It's hard to find authentic Cuban cuisine in Tennessee but guess what, I found it in Chattanooga. The music the Pan con Bistec, congri and arroz con frijoles negro. Bistec a la palomilla. This place was booming the whole time we were there. We got there around 6:45 on a Saturday and there was a 30 minute wait. The hostess was nice and gave a correct wait estimate. One thing that would have been nice was the option to sit inside or on the patio. By default you were seated in first available. For us this meant on the patio facing the street, not a great view, not screened in so you get to shoo some house flies. I guess that keeps it authentic, right? The patio could use some ceiling fans. The food was good, not great. I had the Cuban sandwich and it came with plantain chips but mine did not. I didn't realize this until I saw every sandwich with them. Service was good but delayed here and there. Server had a good attitude but we waited a while for our check and flan (which was delicious). Hopefully they'll work through their newly opened restaurant pains and then they'd be a 4 for sure. read more

Going to Embargo was an absolutely fantastic decision. Tucked on the north side of the river, I sort of stumbled upon it, thanks to Yelp, and boy an I glad I did. The parking situation is dreadful, as there's nothing nearby until evening (which then becomes valet), but hey, walking is good for you, allegedly. The menu is fantastic. It's not huge, but well curated, something that seems increasingly rare. As I was getting a late lunch, I got the Classic Miami for food, and a Hemingway Royale to drink (well actually two, but that's not the point.) The sandwich came with plantains and was decently good. I used a bit of the local hot sauce on it, which really made it much better and more flavorful. It wasn't the best sandwich, but hit the spot, and the plantains were delightful as well. On the other hand, the cocktail was fantastic. I ordered one as soon as I sat down, and had to get a second, probably should have gotten a third. Really good balance of flavors, without being too much of anything. The menu also had a selection of cigars, which, had I not had to dash off, I would have taken full advantage of. With the large outdoor area, it's well designed for the full service of rum and cigars. The only downside was the service. It was mid-afternoon, and not empty, but the service was still pretty bad. If the service had been good, or the sandwich stellar, no question this would be a five-star experience. Highly recommend. read more
