Popped in here for lunch today while visiting Chattanooga. Our server was Johan and she was great. Food here is smacking. I ordered beef empanadas and pollo ala plancha with white rice and black beans with maduros. Food was served nice and hot. Ambiance was relaxing. I will definitely be returning next time i visit. One person in our party had the shrimp in the white wine sauce, it looked amazing. I will definitely go back. You should give it a try. I don't know anything about authentic Cuban cuisine but I liked a lot of things here. I got the oxtail which had really good flavor. I also got the sampler platter and liked most everything on there. The ham croquette had a a bit of a weird texture for me but the flavor was nice. The waitress was very nice, but she couldn't recommend anything because she liked it all. There five of us and it wasn't very busy so I can't really judge the wait time, I usually don't care as long as I have a drink though. It's a very fun place to sit and just look around. I usually prefer to sit outside but it was a bit windy so we sat inside. They still had fun stuff to look at on the walls. I will definitely come back to try more stuff. read more

The only authentic Cuban restaurant in Chattanooga! I was Born and raised in Miami FL with a wife that comes from an all Cuban family. This place is legit! My absolute favorite dish is Vaca Frita served with Arros Moro and Maduros (skirt steak with rice and bean combo and plantains). I'm so glad they added it to the menu recently. The Ropa Vieja is my 2nd favorite. It's basically a beef stew with amazing flavor. We've had every dish, and they are all delicious! The only thing this restaurant is missing is a liquor license so they can serve Mojiotos and Rum and coke, however, I believe they do serve beer and sangria. For lunch, the Cuban and the Miami sandwich are my go to. The only authentic Cuban sandwich in Chattanooga. read more

I've been wanting to come here for several years because I love Cuban food, but just never had the chance with life and a pandemic getting in the way. Finally ate here before heading to the movies. I ordered the braised oxtail with plantains and black beans and my friend ordered a Cuban sandwich. I also had a guava cider. My food was excellent, and there was plenty of it, both meat and plantains. The oxtail was generous and had a lot of meat on each piece, which was tender and delicious. The plantains were cooked to perfection with the perfect caramelization. The black beans had a ton of flavor. My friend said her Cuban was also good. I did expect this place to have a more upscale feeling. It was more hole-in-the-wall like, but the decor was beachy with cool light fixtures, like you were in a food shack on the beach in Cuba. They advertise as a rum bar on a sign out front and in the name on the menu, but I saw zero liquor in sight, only beer and cider, not even wine, which was disappointing. In town for the weekend, decided to order some Spanish food to my hotel it was one of the worst Meals I've ever had! Do not get chicken or oxtail. The oxtail was over salted and the chicken had zero flavor. Don't get me started on the plantains, FROZEN and barely deforested. And how can you make white rice wrong!? Went in for dinner one night because we heard good things and love Cuban food. It wasn't too crowded and we got a seat right away. Our service was great, everything was correct and brought out quickly. The combination appetizer was huge. Omg it was so much food and even some of the stuff we weren't sure about tasted great. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place! Me and my husband came here one evening when we were visiting Nashville. I saw the great reviews and I knew we had to give it a shot since we both love Cuban food. Upon entering I quickly noticed all the cool Cuban decor they had. From the posters to the old motorcycle I thought it really added to the vibe and celebrated different aspects of the culture. The staff here was friendly and prompt at taking our drink orders. My husband got cafe con leche and I got a mojito. My mojito had lots of fresh mint and was decently priced. For food we decided to order a couple of different things; beef empanadas, croquettas, toast, and the lechon plate with mashed yuca and tostones. We shared everything so we could enjoy it all. Everything was amazing but the lechon was my favorite. The meat was super tender and flavorful. I also really love the creamy mashed yuca. I've only been a couple of times, but the two sandwiches I had, the Cuban and the Pan con Lechon, were both great, especially the Pan con Lechon*! I found the plantain chips to be rather bland. Atmosphere is superb and service is good. *The Pan con Lechon comes with a wonderful sauce that you can pour on the sandwich or dip it. I did both! YUM. read more

We had dinner here on a Thursday night. There were only three tables with people so we sat at the bar. My wife started with a margarita that she enjoyed and I had a Guatemalan beer called Playa. Never had this beer before but was good. We ordered the beef empanadas that came with a mustard based sauce. My wife hates mustard but really enjoyed the sauce. I had the oxtail with black beans and rice. The oxtail was braised perfectly with a nice tomato based sauce. The beans had a good flavor. My wife got the lechon with congri and mashed yuca. She loved the pork and especially loved the mashed yuca. We finished the meal with Cuban coffee. A really good dining experience. read more

A menu filed with Cuban delights we decided on an order of empanadas with beef and an order of shrimp with rice and black beans. When the empanadas came out the waitress said I will bring you a cheese one to try. As good as the beef was, the cheese was 10 times better. Gooey goodness in every bite. Very crisp and flaky, not greasy at all. The Camarones(shrimp )order came out next and it was outstanding! Eight jumbo shrimp tasted like they were just pulled out of the ocean. Firm to the bite. Served in a tasty red sauce when mixed with the rice : wow! Our plates were scrapped clean! I will be back because there are several other items I want to try! My experience at embargo 62 was OK. First I'd like to say I really enjoy the ambience and the option of indoor outings see seating in the patio area. It had a very eclectic appearance with many colors but was at the same time inviting. The issue was with the food I guess because it was the end of the day on a Sunday it was just ok. Being of Caribbean dissent and loving Cuban food I have really high expectations. If you're not familiar with Cuban food it'll be really good but if you are it's OK. I will give them another chance sometime in the future. And our drinks are awful. Service was ok. read more

We visited Chattanooga overnight and ate at Embargo 62 for a friends birthday dinner. The restaurant in tucked into the corner of a building and you might miss it if you're not looking for it. At 7pm, it was not too crowded and our large group was seated immediately. It took a long time to get our drink orders in. The waitress did not go around the table and take orders forcing us to finally ask her if she could get an order in. Drinks hit the table around 7:45. It was then another 20 minutes - again after getting the attention of the waitress - before food orders were put in. After being at the table for an hour and a half, we got food at 8:30. Our table had 10 people, so maybe this is why it took so long to get orders organized. I don't know. Despite being there so long, I'm still giving Embargo 62 four stars because the food was absolutely delicious. The cocktail menu was very interesting and it was fun trying the different offerings. One of my friends tried a drink with mezcal and was not a fan of the taste, but she didn't want to be difficult in asking for another drink. But she did eventually tell the waitress, and despite everything above, the waitress was so nice, completely understanding, and proclaimed that she would not want anyone to drink and pay for something they were not enjoying. I think I would definitely come back here and if you're looking for something different and delicious Cuban food, give this place a try! read more
