Bean dip is too much bean and not enough cheese. Not good.
Marcus W.

This location is closed. It moved to Hixson Pike in the Lake Site area (across from food city). First the good: the rice was good, the beer is cheap and cold, beautiful new restaurant, friendly wait staff, my wife's fajitas were flavorful (dry as a desert, but tasty) Now the bad: EVERYTHING ELSE! the burrito Colorado is quite possibly the worst dish I have ever had at a Mexican restaurant. The beef is a flavorless, mushy chunk beef. The Colorado sauce is more cinnamon than anything. The salsa is grainy and flavorless. The beans are like catfood. The wait staff is incredibly inattentive (my wife never got a water refill). Also if you get more than two baskets of chips and salsa they charge $1.99 for it (not that I want anymore chips and salsa). It's very disappointing because this used to be a good restaurant, and now it isn't. Really sad.

I'm a Texas girl so I know Mexican food. My Boyfriend and I were driving back to college and pulled over to refuel etc. literally by chance walked in and knew it was amazing. THE SERVICE 10/10. THE FOOD 12/10. Hands down best Mexican I had in a VERY long time. The service was so friendly and the food came out piping hot and fresh . Even got a discount on the specials they have. (Pretty sure everyday specials) HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend going to ANY of these locations, for sure coming again.

So called "refried beans"

This location closed and reopened on Hixson Pike. Pics don't match what you get. Specifically the refried beans. See my pic. The beans were like a purée of chili beans and water. Like a sauce; Not refried beans at all. Couldn't eat them. I had enchiladas supreme and couldn't eat the bean or cheese enchiladas - terrible taste. The chicken for chimichanga and enchilada was good. There's plenty other Mexican restaurants around but likely not coming back to this one.

My fiancé and I stopped in for dinner this past Saturday. This was our first time visiting El Maguey. It's located in a small strip of stores off of Middle Valley Rd. The interior was very clean. We were promptly seated in a booth and introduced to what we would discover to be the greatest waiter we've ever encountered at any Mexican restraurant, Gabriel. Gabriel took our drink orders and had some chips and salsa sent our way. We opted for Coke Zero but they had a decent beer selection and bottled margaritas. (Because they're within a certain radius of a school and church in the heart of the Bible Belt, they have having difficulty getting a liquor permit) We were told about a special, Hawaiian Pineapple. It's a hollowed half pineapple filled with chicken, steak, shrimp, grilled onions/tomatoes/peppers, and warm pineapple. It comes with soft tortillas, beans, rice, guacamole, sour cream, and pico. It's enough food for three people, easily. All of that for only $11.99! Not only was the price fantastic, the food was great! The flavor was right there with every other Mexican restaurant you've been too, but when you couple that with the price, and fantastic service, we were quite pleased. Gabriel also told us about a sopapilla, four flat square doughs covered in cinnamon, sugar, and topped with a dollop of whipped cream surrounding a ball of strawberry ice cream topped with whipped cream and chocolate sauce. It was delightful! Overall, it was a great visit! I'd go back again without hesitation. If you don't absolutely have to have a mixed margarita at your meal, please give this place a try.

The food was amazing, I got the special dinner, it's even described on the menu as "a little bit of everything" and you can believe, it's more than enough food!

It was a little chilly, but not quite "Ohio" chilly so we sat ourselves outside with a couple of hazy IPA aka Juice Bombs from Sloop Brewery. This brew pub is sandwiched between brick buildings: Stacks, a burger pub, on the right and another commercial building on the left. Across the street is the Police, so be warned, and don't get too funky. We asked if they had food and said no but it was ok to get some take out and eat it at their table or order from Stacks (what we did) and they bring it to your table from next door. Even better. Stacks' mushroom burger and stack cheese burger were very good too. We washed those down with another set of local IPAs called Southeast by Tailgate Brewery in Nashville, TN, also very good. Some of the tables have heating lamps which would have been nice as it got chillier. Not ours. But no sweat. This place does occasionally make their own beer as well but it's primarily a brew pub which sells other beer and canned beer from all over. I'm glad we had a chance to come. Now for the drive home. Thankfully we are less than 2 hours away. Atlanta here we come!

There's plenty of parking nearby so you don't have to walk far. This neat beer bar reminds me of the crowler shops that you used to find around Atlanta, with around 30 taps containing about a thrid local beer, so you can sample several local breweries without visiting each one (they're mostly not too near each other so this is very convenient). The taproom "beertender" seemed to be fairly knowledgeable regarding the various offerings - there's also a convenient list highlighting the different beers with style notes. We sat at the bar and were able to bring in some food from the nearby restaurants (I grabbed some wings at the nearby Marthie Ann's which were excellent). To drink I tried Hoptown's own Orange Mango Wheat - a somewhat basic wheat beer with hings of sweet tangerine and mango - nothing special. I had a Maine Brewing "Lunch" with the wings which is always a winner - it's an exceptional New England IPA. Service was great - I can see myself hitting Ooltewah just to come by for a break in driving.

Not a huge deal, but kinda annoying to wait in the giant line instead of having a server (it was busy). My salad was ... fine. I liked the sauce but the chicken was a tad overcooked and dry. Burger was decent but not crispy on the edges like some smash burgers. I think the food is decent if you come here to drink, but I wouldn't go just to eat. The spot is cool and would be nice to sit outside on a nice day. You can bring dogs but you have to control where they potty which seems unlikely at least with our dogs lol.

Luckily their wifi worked perfectly fine so we just put the game on one of our phones. They did have a few sours for me to order and enjoy and then had plenty for Ben to order. They don't do flights per se, but they do half pours. I walked around a little bit to take in the scenery as I did notice that they had food but you do have to go outside order and pick up which is no problem because it's literally right outside the door to their back patio area. The back area was full of families and furry friends. Our servers were attentive to our needs and fun to talk to. You could see that they all enjoyed each other's company as well which I believe is very important in the service industry.
