Street tacos
Denise H.

Decided to grab some lunch on the go, so I picked some El Meson for my son and I. My son had the fajitas and thought it tasted authentic and the chicken was tender. I tried both the street tacos and the Americanized version. They were ok. I will say the beans and rice were tasty, probably my favorite among the chain restaurants. The cheese dip was just the right thickness and had a lot of flavor. Satisfying lunch.

Margarita sampler and a beer

Loved the waiter! He was very friendly and personable with all his customers. The tables and chairs were fun to look at. The portions of food were a good size for the price. I forgot to take pictures of my food which I was very happy about. I also got the margarita sampler and a beer.

Slow time. Good time to come!

My husband and I met here mid-week for an event dinner. There was only one other table and a couple guys at the bar. That was fine with me because we ordered and had our drinks fairly quickly after we arrived. Our sever was kind and helpful when we asked about certain dishes on the menu. The chips and salsa were free and delicious. Our meals arrived quickly and we were both pleased with our choices. I got a veggie burrito (it came with two) and it was good! I got the cheese on the side and my dish came just as I ordered it. I think the quality of food is good for the price. I wouldn't say it's my absolute favorite but it ranks top ten. I'd definitely go back!

Solid brick cheese

I should have known better than to try Mexican food outside of Texas. This food had Mexican flavor but not well done. My fajitas were all vegetables. The guacamole was slimy looking and had too much pico in it. My daughters cheese enchiladas had hard unmelted cheese throughout and the machaca meat that was supposed to be on it was not available. Instead of telling us they had no meat when we ordered they brought it out and said sorry we are out of meat. "You want taco meat instead?" Not even the chips and dips were good. Not going back.oh and service was bad. Slow and had to ask for everything and got it piece by piece.

The best mexican food in town. Staff is great. Raul treats you like family. Miguel is our favorite waiter.

My wife and I tried it. It was worse than average. It wasn't very expensive so that was a plus.

We are regulars here for a reason... As a native Southeast Texan, I can honestly say this place is…read morefire--it's not Tex-Mex run of the mill Mexican joint. It's got authentic flavor from the chips and salsa (their salsa is bangin') to the flan, one of my all-time favorite deserts done properly; it's thick, creamy, and just great. Our go-tos: Camarones Diablo-- (Get medium! The Mexican hot is like Thai hot; unless you really do like ghost peppers, Carolina reapers, etc., you don't want that smoke). Carne Asada--it's just fire. For soup: the Pizole--just trust me. It's worth every penny. Tacos--any of the street tacos are great; birria taco is delicious. (My only critique--tacos de lingua would be a great addition). Dessert: Flan--hands down. It's sold out a lot so I order it when we put our order in so I can take it home with me.

It's very modern with vibrant decor and good music playing. There's a large Bar in the middle of the restaurant with TV's and booths and tables all around. No outdoor dining that I can remember, but I could be mistaken. We've had several dishes, but my go to is the Spicy Burrito with Tinga or grilled chicken. You won't find a spicier burrito with flavor anywhere in town. If you like melted cheese, almost every dish is swimming in it. According to my wife the Margaritas are on point! I prefer a cold beer. The service is good. We're always greeted and have good conversation with the servers and bar tenders when we dine in VS take out. They have a big party for Cinco de Mayo every year. Highly recommend.

We had our two young girls and they were very understanding and accommodating (high chair and coloring sheets). The menu is interesting but to be honest, we enjoyed almost none of our items. The cocktails were very meh. Not awful but not great. The food is really where this place lacks in my opinion. No one was a fan of almost any dish we got. The puffy tacos with redfish were likely the worst. Under seasoned and close to being gross. The catfish dish was so so. The fish itself was good but the grits were hard and the green tomatoes were so sour that they overpowered everything else. The ribs tried but I'd suggest going to a legit BBQ joint for real meats like this. The potatoes were greasy and mostly bland. I'd rank this our least favorite meal in the city. Interestingly enough. We were just at a Michelin star restaurant less than a week before and had the complete opposite experience.

Upon arrival, a friendly host found us comfortable booth seating behind the bar. The waitress not only answered our food allergy related questions pertaining to certain dish prep but the manager came over to our table to assure us that she would be double checking our order to make sure there was no allergen cross contamination. Such a kind, thoughtful gesture! Mom and I ordered the sampler to split - a huge tray filed with delish gluten free chips, a delish bowl salsa verde, a delish bowl of homemade guacamole, and a delish bowl of homemade cheese sauce. For my lunch, I got two of my favorite tacos on their menu still, the California Club ones, large tacos filled with roasted chicken, a tasty like crema, and avocado. Not as hungry as I, Mom got an Oy Vey Taco, another longstanding goodie, a brisket based taco, which she enjoyed. Our later than planned Wednesday lunch was perfect.

I like the idea of trendy sounding dishes and fun taco names, but I wasn't wowed. Our server took a while to get to us despite being a relatively empty dining room at the time. We both ordered an El Camino margarita, which was an orange-ish one. I asked for it blended but it came out on the rocks, so I just kept it. I ordered two tacos, the Oy Vey and the Taco Royale. The Oy Vey was nothing special and I didn't taste the barbacoa at all. The Taco Royale was much better and had a good blend of flavor between the chicken, chorizo, and pico. The side of corn was not what I ordered but I couldn't flag down the server so I gave in and kept it. It was average corn with a little bit of queso fresco on top. I noticed that the bowl really wasn't too filled for the $14 price point, some fast casual chains can do better bowls. I've had better and worse but the tacos at Taco Mamacita really didn't feel like the gourmet tacos they are billed to be.
