Not sure why Amigo Mexican Restaurant in Chattanooga gets rave reviews on Google & TripAdvisor, but my meal here left much to be desired. It does a decent job of decoration inside for a strip mall location. Meals start with complimentary chips & salsa, which is always welcome. Nothing jumped out as memorable about the chips, and the salsa being somewhat bland. We ordered the lunch chicken quesadilla and lunch chimichanga. Portions were decent and prices reasonable, but food was just average tasting. The chicken was fresh, but not flavorful at all. The food didn't taste bad, but it was just that the recipes for each seemed kind of uninspired and not overly flavorful. The reason for rounding down to a 2 rating is a bait & switch tactic by the waiter, asking me if I wanted grilled chicken instead of shredded chicken in the quesadilla . My response was basically a "sure, why not?" However, when the bill came, he had charged me for a dinner entree instead of the $7.99 lunch portion. When I questioned it, he lied and said I had requested for grilled chicken, which is subject to dinner entree pricing. This left a sour taste in my mouth, since all it would have taken from the waiter is a simple explanation that the lunch pricing was only valid for shredded chicken, and that grilled chicken would be what amounted to almost 70% more money. They showed a stubborn unwillingness to adjust to the lunch menu pricing, so I paid & left. Sorry to say, but I won't be returning or recommending Amigo Mexican Restaurant to others.

I admin, I was not in the best frame of mind when I went here. I am dieting and had gone WAY too long with my last meal. The staff, was REALLY friendly and helpful, and the place was extremely clean. We were quickly seated and brought chips and salsa. The chips were fresh and the salsa was SO good, I didn't even have to do my customary "throw hot sauce at it". So far, so good. I ordered shrimp and bacon tacos. WOW, it was REALLY good. Good enough I didn't even miss the typical fried beans one normally gets! The rice was quite good as well. The sauce serviced with it was a little sweet, and I was almost turned off by it, but with the bacon and shrimp it totally worked. I don't get to this area often, but now I have a good solid eatery to go to!

Great time at Amigos with my family! We came during happy hour and got 2/1 margaritas! I got mango and my Sister got strawberry. We shred the Texas Fajitas for two and by was the portions massive!!! If we had more tortillas,3 people could've shared it. We also had queso and unlimited chips and salsa. Our serve was also great but i can't remember his name!

Very good local Mexican restaurant. The service is very fast he happy hour specials are decent however the amount of liquor in those specials is not much. We enjoy sharing the single fajita order and it easily is enough for two if you don't buy any liquor you can get away with under $20. Definitely not Gourmet but very good. Can I take a picture

This is one of my wife's favorite restaurants. I must say it is good not great but good. If your looking for something to eat that will wow you taste buds this just isn't the place. The food is good and is filling but it is somewhat bland and it fills like they just hurry and get it out to you. My wife had the pollo loco and while it was good and filling it was just bland and lacked flavor. I had the grilled chicken nachos and I would have to say the same. If you want flavorful authentic Mexican food this just won't satisfy you. The service was fantastic though. They were very friendly we went right in and were seated, didn't have to wait long at all. I would say Amigos food would get a three star but for the excellent costumer service makes it a four star.

favorite mexican place in chatt bc its been there forever, staff is always friendly, business is always bumpin but you never have to wait on a table... lots of options for ppl on different diets which is what i like about it the most. ofc, the frozen margs are great (strawberry peach is the go to) got the chimichanga with guac and it was beautiful and crunchy and yummy and built a wonderful turd 4 later muy bien mi amigos!!! ME GUSTARIA MARGARITAS PARA TODOS

Margaritas were not great, too much mix not enough tequila. The food was standard fare. The service was good. The price was good too.

We had our two young girls and they were very understanding and accommodating (high chair and coloring sheets). The menu is interesting but to be honest, we enjoyed almost none of our items. The cocktails were very meh. Not awful but not great. The food is really where this place lacks in my opinion. No one was a fan of almost any dish we got. The puffy tacos with redfish were likely the worst. Under seasoned and close to being gross. The catfish dish was so so. The fish itself was good but the grits were hard and the green tomatoes were so sour that they overpowered everything else. The ribs tried but I'd suggest going to a legit BBQ joint for real meats like this. The potatoes were greasy and mostly bland. I'd rank this our least favorite meal in the city. Interestingly enough. We were just at a Michelin star restaurant less than a week before and had the complete opposite experience.

Upon arrival, a friendly host found us comfortable booth seating behind the bar. The waitress not only answered our food allergy related questions pertaining to certain dish prep but the manager came over to our table to assure us that she would be double checking our order to make sure there was no allergen cross contamination. Such a kind, thoughtful gesture! Mom and I ordered the sampler to split - a huge tray filed with delish gluten free chips, a delish bowl salsa verde, a delish bowl of homemade guacamole, and a delish bowl of homemade cheese sauce. For my lunch, I got two of my favorite tacos on their menu still, the California Club ones, large tacos filled with roasted chicken, a tasty like crema, and avocado. Not as hungry as I, Mom got an Oy Vey Taco, another longstanding goodie, a brisket based taco, which she enjoyed. Our later than planned Wednesday lunch was perfect.

It took a while for a server to see us, but then it was fast to get our drinks as well as food once orders were placed. Tacos were alright, Cali club was messy & drippy. Homeboy was good but I don't think I'd get the spicy version again - not overly spice just overly sauced. The appetizer trio was good, but seemed expensive at $14. Overall the place is nice, but a little expensive for tacos.

The bathrooms are always clean, which I appreciate. Paid street parking is usually easy to find, though during busy hours it can take a little more time. The veggie fajitas are an absolute treat and full of flavor. The guacamole is fresh and perfectly seasoned, and the salsa is truly top notch. One of the most delightful surprises is that the churros are vegan, and they are unforgettable. The Papillón dish is especially meaningful. It can be made vegan and comes from the owner's grandmother's recipe in Guatemala. That personal touch really shines through and makes the menu feel inspired and unique. There used to be a young blonde male bartender who was hands down one of the best servers I have ever had. He was personable and somehow remembered both your order and your conversations even months later. That level of hospitality really stood out. Prices are not cheap, and the ingredients are not explicitly organic, but the quality, flavor, and thoughtful menu make it well worth it. Highly recommend if you are looking for consistently great food and a standout dining experience in Chattanooga.
