So maybe offer something different - how about Mexican street corn? - The cilantro lime rice disappointed. It should have been airy and light, with at least moderately pungent cilantro flavor and a nice lime kick. I go to restaurants over 200 times a year a whole lot of Mexican restaurants especially the last three years. This has to be one of the absolute worst restaurants I've ever been to the waiter. Does not listen to you at what you want. The food I doubt a wild dog would eat it. I would advised no one to ever go here. Not sure why Amigo Mexican Restaurant in Chattanooga gets rave reviews on Google & TripAdvisor, but my meal here left much to be desired. It does a decent job of decoration inside for a strip mall location. Meals start with complimentary chips & salsa, which is always welcome. Nothing jumped out as memorable about the chips, and the salsa being somewhat bland. We ordered the lunch chicken quesadilla and lunch chimichanga. Portions were decent and prices reasonable, but food was just average tasting. The chicken was fresh, but not flavorful at all. The food didn't taste bad, but it was just that the recipes for each seemed kind of uninspired and not overly flavorful. The reason for rounding down to a 2 rating is a bait & switch tactic by the waiter, asking me if I wanted grilled chicken instead of shredded chicken in the quesadilla . My response was basically a "sure, why not?" However, when the bill came, he had charged me for a dinner entree instead of the $7.99 lunch portion. When I questioned it, he lied and said I had requested for grilled chicken, which is subject to dinner entree pricing. This left a sour taste in my mouth, since all it would have taken from the waiter is a simple explanation that the lunch pricing was only valid for shredded chicken, and that grilled chicken would be what amounted to almost 70% more money. They showed a stubborn unwillingness to adjust to the lunch menu pricing, so I paid & left. Sorry to say, but I won't be returning or recommending Amigo Mexican Restaurant to others. read more

I admin, I was not in the best frame of mind when I went here. I am dieting and had gone WAY too long with my last meal. The staff, was REALLY friendly and helpful, and the place was extremely clean. We were quickly seated and brought chips and salsa. The chips were fresh and the salsa was SO good, I didn't even have to do my customary "throw hot sauce at it". So far, so good. I ordered shrimp and bacon tacos. WOW, it was REALLY good. Good enough I didn't even miss the typical fried beans one normally gets! The rice was quite good as well. The sauce serviced with it was a little sweet, and I was almost turned off by it, but with the bacon and shrimp it totally worked. The tortilla on the quesadilla was practically raw and gummy. There was no toasty-ness, barely any cheese and maybe a pinch of chicken. The disappointment was palpable and very real. Unfortunately the same thing happened to the burrito. It was almost all onion and no chicken or cheese. The pork wasn't bad, but it wasn't well seasoned. And it came with only a spoonful of verde sauce. Definitely needed more sauce! The fajitas were decent. The chips...meh. It's not often a bowl of chips doesn't get refilled. They didn't smell great which lead me to believe the oil was old. The rice was actually the best thing on all the plates. Amigo's is not one my family will visit often. This is one of my wife's favorite restaurants. I must say it is good not great but good. If your looking for something to eat that will wow you taste buds this just isn't the place. The food is good and is filling but it is somewhat bland and it fills like they just hurry and get it out to you. My wife had the pollo loco and while it was good and filling it was just bland and lacked flavor. I had the grilled chicken nachos and I would have to say the same. If you want flavorful authentic Mexican food this just won't satisfy you. The service was fantastic though. They were very friendly we went right in and were seated, didn't have to wait long at all. My friend and I wanted Mexican food but not in the downtown area. We saw this place yesterday and decided to hit it up for lunch. This was one of the best Mexican restaurants I've ever been to. The food was so fresh and you could tell that they care about the quality of their food. We had the Amigos dip for an appetizer and it was super yummy. We had never had anything like it before. The chips and salsa were delicious. My friend had the chicken quesadilla, which he very much enjoyed. I had the huevos rancheros and a cheese enchilada. Huevos rancheros is a simple dish, but if you don't know or don't care what you put out, it's easy to mess up. The eggs were done perfectly with just enough yolks to make the dish amazing. I loved the refried beans! And I never like typical restaurant beans. The cheese enchilada was awesome! The service was amazing. We weren't rushed at all. A huge pet peeve is when a server comes back 8 times when you're two minutes in to the place asking if you're ready yet. So that was a huge plus in my book that we were able to enjoy the chip and dip and then order our food without feeling pressure. Please don't mistake this for slow service because several tables around us that were obviously on their lunch break were in and out and on their way. This is our go to for great Mexican food. However this was the most disappointing dinner I have had in a long time. We went to celebrate my sons 30th Birthday. We were excited to finally be able to dine in. However there was zero social distancing of tables. Booths were filled back to back. Our table was in the center and the booths on both sides of us were filled. The sign on the door says masks required. However we watched several people enter with no mask and were seated. Then dinner came. There were three of us. Two meals arrived short a few items. The missing items appeared long before long before the missing meal. My son and I were almost halfway through our meal when my husbands plate finally arrived. I ordered the steak chimmi I was hard pressed to find any steak in there however. We noticed that there were a lot of cars in the parking lot and people leaving with to go boxes so we decided to take a chance at something we hadn't had before. My boyfriend was impressed that they had Cholula hot sauce . I loved the Abuela's Guacamole. It was fresh and flavorful! I recommend that as an appetizer with the chips. I also loved the chips that came with the 1/2 grilled shrimp nachos. They were kind of like pita chips but fried from scratch made them taste great. The shrimp had a good and the tomatoes were fresh. The white queso and the beans were also good. I didn't like the guacamole dip that came with the nachos for free. Overall I was impressed with the guacamole. I would go back to order that and the homemade chips. The entrees were about a 3.5. The customer service was average. The bathroom was clean. I sat at the bar. Took 10 minutes for the bartender to even show up. She was rude. doesn't say you are welcome no matter how many times you say thank you or ï appreciate you. zero manners. I highly recommend if you are a hard working person, like myself, that also works in the heat (24/7 might i add you,) and have also been a bar manager for 12 years and have worked on a patio, (so i understand) but you should definitely not say anything to you, bc your bartender is way more heat exhausted than you are and works way harder than you do, according to her.. honestly, i did not know it was a competition. when i asked for a water i got the smallest glass that was a cocktail glass and an attitude. i then ordered a frozen margarita and my straw was thrown at me. i ordered cheese dip then texas fajitas. she was ready for my order but asked my three times what i order afterwards . food was bland. no seasoning. i'm so sad bc this is such a cool place. i like to bring my family and friends from out of town. at this point it's just embarrassing. I visited this location for the first time and was really disappointed. There's a reason why the other location has a much better rating. Stop reading and just head there now. The waitress we had forgot about putting in our order and we waited and watched three tables who sat after us (both large parties and there were only two of us) get their food before we did. She even came back to our table to ask what we ordered because there was a "mix up". The only sort of redeeming thing about this experience was that the waitress did take ownership of her mistake, which I appreciated, but the food that finally came out looked awful. This place was awesome! I called at the last minute after being on the road late at night heading to Missouri. They accepted us right at 10:47 even though there last order was 10:45pm - needless to say they prepared the food just how we ordered and the service and people there were so nice! The food was amazing! You can always tell a good Mexican spot by the taste of the chips and salsa and it was the bomb.com- this is why I came on Yelp to share my review! Thanks to the manager on staff and thanks to the very nice waitress and waitresses that stop by our table to check in on us. They came by ( more than one) to see if we needed anything- I'm sure they were ready to go home but even then it was sweet and their attitudes were very kind. Since I have to give them a star it has to be one. I really try hard not to really bash businesses but it his place was by far the worst. I mean so bad that we didn't even get past the appetizer. I actually had to get what we did get just start off with using two different waiters because our original waiter must have been off playing somewhere. Well the second wasn't much better. We actually had to ask for our drinks, no they didn't ask if we needed anything to drink. The place was not full or busy at all, so I couldn't understand why it was taking so long for everything. We finally get cold chips and sauce. No, they didn't ask if we were ready for appetizers after bringing us the cold chips. So we kindly tell them that we're ready to order after we have to find a waiter to do so. So before we even order the appetizer we ask if we can at least get our drinks that we haven't even ordered yet. He says fine, so I order a frozen margarita and my wife orders a glass of water. Five minutes later he comes to tell me that they have to make the margarita and that it will be another five minutes for it to freeze, lol. Fast forward five minutes and I get my margarita and I swear it looks like mud "I should have took a pic" from off the floor. At the same time our appetizer arrives and I guess we were just supposed to eat it with our hands and use the table to put it on. I am a frequent flyer at Amigos for lunch. I enjoy that they have lots of vegetarian options. They also have some non-traditional plates. Their quesadillas are huge!! The strawberry margaritas were the worst I've ever had. I give them a 0.1 and the .1 only because they get you drunk because they are basically tequila water with red food coloring. The food was not awful but I definitely wouldn't recommend putting green beans, carrots, corn, and peas in Mexican rice this isn't Chinese fried rice.
