We always enjoy going to Amigos. The food is high quality and the service is always courteous. The views of the lake are also enjoyable. This time I got chimichangas and a tamale. They were delicious!

You know, even being accustomed to SoCal Mexican food, this place is pretty good! The atmosphere and proximity to the harbor alone is worth sitting and enjoying a basket of chips. Don't bring Abuela here, I'm not saying it's a hidden cocina in East Tennessee but you won't be disappointed. I'm staying over on a boat trip and had the chimichangas yesterday, and today decided to rock a cheeseburger for something different. Both trips I was immediately greeted and provided a dump truck bed of chips and accompanying salsa. The margarita passed muster and they even know what a Cadillac is- bonus points. It's fun, give 'em a try, ask if there's a table on the rear deck.... keep the food expectations reasonable and I'm sure you'll enjoy your visit.

It was a warm evening with the world just beginning to crawl back out of pandemic haze, and Amigo's was like a bowl of chicken tortilla soup for the soul. 5 pm can be a long wait nearly everywhere, so we braced for a Saturday wait more like on Mother's Day. Pleasant surprise when our "30 minutes" turned into 15. We were seated and eating endless bowls of tortilla chips before we knew it. For now the menu is online, which is a creative solution to sterilization. You'll find plenty of the classics you'd expect with a few twists and surprises. Decent prices and large portions meant almost everybody went home stuffed. Could we help it after eating 5 bowls of chips? It's not our fault; no one can eat just one (bowl). My choice was the chimichanga to break my string of 500 in a row enchiladas supremes and what a night to do it. Could have been crispier but that would just mean unhealthier. Add rice and beans and even not-cost-extra guacamole and it was big! Others ordered fajitas (good), hard shell tacos (great), gluten-free (gluten-free). The one downer: for a Mexican restaurant the food took a long time to come out. Apparently the head chef was out this night (hope all's well and it's just a head cold). We aren't complaining and they managed to pull off a lot with things still tender coming out of quarantine. This meant we pictured two Central HS new grads back there on YouTube looking up "hard shell taco". On the bright side, when in doubt bring more chips! We never had an empty bowl before two more came. The cheese dip appetizer was good too, and a welcomed change from the 8 salsa bowls we polished off. It was a group of 7 okay, don't judge. So probably the longest time I've spent in a Mexican restaurant in a while, but with good friends there, time flew. Details: easy access by land or sea. Plenty of parking and most of the time dock space to hop off for dinner. So drive somewhere else, park, take your boat, dock, eat, float back to your car full. I know my friends will return; they practically own stock in this place. And we'll accompany next time we're in town.

My server thought the shrimp quesadilla was served with pico. Nope, tomato slice. In order to get pico, I was charged for a side, at $2.95. Seems high, but the rest of the items seem reasonably priced. My husband got the Arroz con Pollo, which was served in a bowl already mixed together. He thought it was great! Would have thought tortillas came with his dish, but we were charged for a side of them. Salsa verde is amazing and will get your head sweating. We also had the margarita (?) dip. Ground beef, beans, cheese, yummmmmmm. While we were there, between 1:30-2:45, lots of late lunchers were coming and going. Also, at least two Latino groups, which typically is high praise for whichever ethnic restaurant you've chosen, to have actually eating their native food there. All in all, great food, servers were friendly and attentive, and husband was happy.

I told him I didn't like it and asked why they would grind it so finely. He shrugged and walked away. This was something I couldn't eat, it was like canned dog food pate. When he finally came around again, I asked if I could pay for the drink and have the nacho taken off the bill. He said he couldn't. I pointed to the plate, which was still virtually full, telling him that I had only taken 3 bites and didn't want it. After discussing this with him several times, he brought me the bill - no deduction. I now discovered that the 3 tablespoons of cheese dip that was brought out was billed at $5.50. Were they serious? I went in and asked the manager. He flat out refused to remove any amount from the bill. I offered to pay for the dip and drink - all he would do was repeat the total. No apology for the food, no discussion. This was the second time I have been here since it changed hands. It used to be pleasant and had good food. No more. The first visit, the food made me sick. I had not gone back until now, maybe a year later. It was also ready annoying to have to deal with a drunk on the patio. When he finally figured out I wasn't interested in chatting, he turned the music up so loud that conversation with the person next to me was impossible . I asked the server if it could be turned back down - he did nothing. Will NEVER return. No one should be forced to pay for mystery meat.

So finally after all these years, I came here with my dad. Service was fast and helpful. There are many tables and places to sit. They have a large menu too. I ordered the Beef Chimichangas with all the sides, and my dad had the Chicken Fajitas. Food came out pretty quick. I will say, the portion size is incredible. The price is reasonable depending on the time you come for lunch or dinner, and they give you so much. For me, I love all the sides and some places tend to give a meager amount, but not this place. And they didn't even cheap out on the guacamole amount too. I had some to take home at the end, so I was happy about that. Although the food was decent and plentiful, I will say that it lacked flavor for me. It wasn't amazing in comparison to all the Mexican places I've tried around the area. And also I guess from eating Mexican food in California, I have a high standard. Like I reiterated before, great portion size but a little disappointing regarding the flavor. It felt like it was missing something, maybe a little salt but also something more that I can't put my finger on. I'm not sure if I would come back.

I ordered the Carne Asada, which is usually my "go to" when I eat at a mexican restaurant. Wait time wasn't so bad. The chips and salsa were good too, the tortilla chips were crunchy and salsa was flavorful. But unfortunately, my Carne Asada fell flat. I asked the beef to be cooked at medium but the beef was tough and overcooked. I was surprised at how dry it was. There were some pieces of the beef that were decent, but overall just too overcooked and dry for me. It was pretty disappointing actually for my first time here. Service was great, they were attentive and checked up on us from time to time. I just felt like the Carne Asada price at $17.99 did not correlate with the quality of meat at all. The other sides were good, like the avocado, beans and rice. And the overall portion size was great too. But for the dish as a whole, I can't justify the price for that. I've been to other mexican restaurants in the area with better Carne Asada that I'd choose in a heartbeat. Despite that experience, I'd come back here but I'd definitely order something else.
