I've spent years in this town as a college student and after, yet for some reason I've never had the opportunity to eat here before. So finally after all these years, I came here with my dad. Service was fast and helpful. There are many tables and places to sit. They have a large menu too. I ordered the Beef Chimichangas with all the sides, and my dad had the Chicken Fajitas. Food came out pretty quick. I will say, the portion size is incredible. The price is reasonable depending on the time you come for lunch or dinner, and they give you so much. For me, I love all the sides and some places tend to give a meager amount, but not this place. And they didn't even cheap out on the guacamole amount too. I had some to take home at the end, so I was happy about that. Although the food was decent and plentiful, I will say that it lacked flavor for me. It wasn't amazing in comparison to all the Mexican places I've tried around the area. And also I guess from eating Mexican food in California, I have a high standard. Like I reiterated before, great portion size but a little disappointing regarding the flavor. They had outside seating and employees wore masks, but the menus were not cleaned and they had no visible hand sanitizer for guests. The prices are terrific. You can get a3 item combo for. $8. Portions are on the smaller side, but that's ok. I had the chili poblano, beef taco and beef burrito. The ground beef had a nice seasoning but was on the salty side. For $1 extra we had the cheese sauce added over the dish. Well worth it! So good even though I did ask for the red sauce and cheese and only got the cheese, it was still good. The service was fast. So I wasn't expecting a 5 star lunch on a busy Sunday afternoon where I had to wait in the cold to even get in to wait for a seat. Being my first time at this restaurant and being alone, I just wanted to eat and get on my way. My server was super busy, but was able to take my order quickly and bring the chips and salsa straight away. I ordered the steak quesadilla. It said made with ribeye, however I wasn't holding my breath. Although it took a bit of time to come out (like I said, they were super busy), I must say that it was the BEST steak quesadilla I have ever had! Super flavorful, and you could cut it with your fork. Because of this I don't eat at majority of the Mexican restaurants in the area, but Los Portos is one of my top three. There are so many pros aside from the food. Excellent service. We had a party of eight tonight and the server did a fantastic job keeping our drinks full, salsa replenished and chips baskets full. The menu is large. The food was pretty good and the portions were nice. I really liked their salsa. They give you salsa in a little vase and it tastes good. Chips and salsa get a solid 4/5 Staff have always been friendly to me. We've shown up kinda close to closing and I didn't feel good about it but it was a group thing but they were very gracious and we tipped well. The food is pretty good. I'd say averaging around a 4.5/5 for this class of Mexican food and prices aren't terrible. I'm a vegetarian and there's lots of options which is nice. I ordered something that wasn't even on the menu and the chef was accommodating and it was really delicious. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly. Our family and in-laws comprising a party of six had dinner here for our son's birthday as he wanted nachos. As he only had cheese on chips it was hard to fail on that dish. The rest of us however were horrified at the nasty concoctions we were served. The beans were burnt and the cheap meats were attempting to hide amidst over-seasoning (especially heavy on the anise of all things). The remaining ingredients such as tortillas were tasteless and limp. I've had much better at Taco Bell. You might as well get a frozen burrito from the bottom of the freezer at a dirty old gas station and reheat it in their wimpy microwave instead of eating here. Oh Los Potros. I spent many a college lunch at this place, and loved it all through college. It's cheap, it's fast, and it's close by. All of those things are still true (and still very valuable!), but I suppose my tastes may have shifted a bit since college. While in college, I might have given 4 stars. Being post college and visiting here while in town visiting family... I guess it's lost it's luster. The lunches at Los Potros as a means of escape from campus life just doesn't quite hold true when I know have a lot more options, and honestly more money to spend.
