Chopped Salad add on Fried Oysters & side of smoked oyster dressing (different view).

Quick lunch with my son. Although his dad and I visit often, it had been a while since I brought him here, so I wanted to treat him to one of my favorite spots in the city. Overall Rating: (4.5/5)So close to perfection. As someone who's constantly recommending Elvie's to everyone, here's my one small critique: If the Duck Fat Fries aren't available as the side with the Steak Frites, I'd love the option to substitute them--or, at the very least, not be charged extra for a side of garlic aioli to enjoy with the fries. For an entrée that's already on the pricier side ($$$$), that little touch would go a long way. That said, thank you for now accepting brunch reservations, keeping Happy Hour alive, and consistently delivering exceptional service and outstanding food. Those are the reasons Elvie's remains one of my favorite restaurants in the city. We'll definitely be back!

The food was great our waitress & host was so kind. We sat out on the porch breathing the fresh air. When I come back to MS this will be on my list to eat at.

Cacio e Pepe

I thought the dinner was pretty good. The service was pretty good as well. My wife loved her Red Fish Almondine. She ate every bit. I tried it, and it was definitely a unique and very interesting flavor profile. The Cacio e pepe had a nice bite and was cooked well. The shrimp compliment consisting of 3 shrimp for $12 is kind of wild. The restaurant is in a pretty good neighborhood. The standout for me was the Salted Caramel Brownie - incredible. The lack of diversity of staff in restaurants like this in a city like Jackson (or so close to Jackson) will always bewilder me. I just will never, ever understand it. I think there is something about it that feels intentional (giving 1950s), and I try to refrain from spending my money in those places. So because of that reason, I really don't see it as a place I would patronize again.

I absolutely love restaurants that have a unique charm to them, rather than a commercialized building. Elvie's is unique to me because, the restaurant at some point was a home/office. Upon entering there's a bar, followed by an open kitchen. There are plenty of seating, available in the dining area or at the bar tops. It gets pretty busy here. You would think the service would suffer. But the quality of the service was amazing. Grayce was so pleasant, and suggested so many great recommendations. Chicken Parm sandwich- OMG such a great tasting sandwich. Chicken was seasoned perfectly and had just the right amount of Parmesan sauce.

Breakfast burger 10000/10! Chicken biscuit 6/10.

This place is always 10/10! The honey chicken biscuit was not our favorite, the chicken was pretty thin and not enough honey but still good! Cheese grits are a must. Could not ask for better service! And the overall atmosphere is such a vibe.

During a recent visit to Jackson, I wanted to try the Michelin Guide's recommended restaurants - on top of being recommend by Michelin, someone I know who is familiar with Jackson also recommended Elvie's. Elvie's is located in the trendy Manship area, which is home to many popular Jackson dining establishments. The restaurant is in a renovated home, and has a homey feel. The staff were extremely friendly and had that warm southern charm. Food was great, they served a nice little amuse bouche, and we ordered the bread which was absolutely delicious, I had the swordfish which was excellent, and my partner ordered the steak frites - the fries were plentiful, but the steak is what lowered the rating of the restaurant for us. We ordered medium rare, but unlike a true steak frites, the steak was sliced too thick for the type of cut, and I would say the meat was almost undercooked and quite tough - my partner couldn't finish the steak. I would have given the restaurant an excellent, but the preparation of the steak took some points off. Overall though, we did enjoy it, and I would go back if given the opportunity.

One of the best brunch spots around. Service is great. Atmosphere is nice. Food is fantastic

Omelette with fried Oysters

We went for brunch on Saturday- Sat at the chefs bar - Food and service were excellent - menu items seem simple but they are done beautifully. Smash burger was special - with a perfect fried egg. Served with fried potatoes, hot crisp and perfectly salted. The omelette was beautiful with fried and battered oysters - they were not ordinary - crisp and light - The bloody Mary's were exceptional... Fun experience at the bar as well. We will be back ...

If you're thinking about visiting Elvie's, don't hesitate! We decided to find a spot for breakfast after flying into Jackson in the early A.M. We looked on YELP and found Elvie's and decided to give it a shot! We're so glad we did! The warm, friendly greeting set the tone for a very hospitable experience. We perused the menu and soon the three of us, decided to order the pancakes, French classic omelet with sides of bacon and sausage (for extra protein), and a fried chicken biscuit with a side of potatoes. Everything was presented with care and attention to plating. The food was tasty & freshly prepared. The interior is modern and cozy and there are a few tables on the front patio. You can peruse the pictures of "Elvie" on the wall. There's also a framed James Beard nomination on the wall. We're so glad we picked this particular restaurant!

Elvie's is one of those neighborhood spots that just gets it. This breakfast plate hit the mark--simple, well-executed, and comforting, from the fluffy eggs to the biscuit and savory sausage. The service is friendly and attentive without hovering, and the ambiance has that warm Belhaven charm--relaxed, welcoming, and perfect for easing into your morning. A great place to slow down, enjoy a solid meal, and feel taken care of.

An evening draped in warmth, laughter, and fine conversation -- a night where every course told its own story. We began with a play of contrasts and texture: hand-cut beef tartare elevated by chive and dill, crowned with a whisper of smoked salt and served alongside golden-grilled bread. Beside it, Oysters Elvaretta -- kissed with bacon, Parmesan, and tender artichoke -- offering a briny depth softened by a crisp French baguette. The main courses arrived in a duet of indulgence. First, "Pork Two Ways" -- confit pork belly yielding beneath its crackling skin, paired with crisp rillettes, confit Alabama apples, silky miso butternut squash, and bright pickled mustard seeds that illuminated each bite. Then, Mississippi braised beef cheek, rich and unctuous, glazed in Hoover sauce and served with local carrots, a French onion soubise, and a touch of horseradish and toasted benne seeds -- a dish that spoke of patience, craft, and the quiet power of Southern terroir. Dessert brought a final note of comfort and grace. A salted caramel and chocolate brownie -- molten within -- paired with vanilla ice cream, benne seed crumble, and sea salt. Beside it, an espresso layered pudding with mascarpone, crisp wafers, and praline dulce de leche, each spoonful an embrace of brightness and depth. We lingered over a chilled glass of non-alcoholic Sauvignon Blanc, letting the evening stretch gently into memory -- a testament to shared company, exceptional ingredients, and the simple elegance of a meal prepared with devotion.

There's plenty of seating, making it a great spot for any occasion. Now for the food: absolutely delicious! The cobb salad that was always so beautiful had the lettuce cut into giant pieces. Nothing that was on top of it was arranged beautifully like it has been for years. One got fried chicken tenders and the other got grilled chicken. Both of them had super dried up old chicken. We ordered the fried green tomatoes. That is absolutely not lump crab meat on top of them. The menu clearly says lump crab meat but that is the fishiest tasting scraps of crab meat ever. We sent them back. Their fries used to be phenomenal, but now they are some kind of frozen shoe string fries. What a letdown for my family visiting from out of town. Our service was mediocre, but the restaurant was clean. I'm not sure what has happened here, but we will not be going back

While traveling from NC to TX, we drove through Jackson, MS, looking for lunch. We checked out Yelp…read moreand headed for Rooster's at 2906 N State St. We ordered country fried steak with coleslaw and green beans, and a bacon cheeseburger with onion rings. We also got an unsweetened tea, Diet Coke and homemade banana pudding. Everything was absolutely delicious. The country fried steak was crispy on the outside and hot on the inside and had plenty of gravy on top. Also, the gravy was exactly the right consistency. The coleslaw was excellent and the green beans were hot as well, and both were seasoned well. The unsweetened tea was very tasty and fresh. The burger was cooked to medium as requested. The bacon and cheese were great toppings as was the crisp lettuce and what tasted like local tomatoes. One of the best things about the burger was the homemade white bun--(also served with the country steak). It tasted like buns my mom used to make. The onion rings were hot and crispy, with a wonderful crunchy fried batter. Delicious! We haven't tried the pudding yet, but we'll update our review tonight when we try it out! Thank you to the hardworking and friendly service staff, cooks and owner. We will definitely be back in the future!

What a great accidental find. Rooster's is absolutely awesome. I had the burger and onion rings and both were damn good. The burger was simple, cooked right, and exactly what a burger should be. The onion rings were thin, crispy, and really good. My daughter got the chicken tenders and they were massive. I mean actually massive. More importantly, they were delicious. The fries were hand cut and just as good. Service was friendly, the place had a cool neighborhood feel, and it filled up fast. Parking is definitely at a premium, so get there early if you can or be prepared to wait a little. This is one of those places we probably would not have found if everything had gone according to plan, and now I'm really glad it didn't. So thank you to whoever forgot to pay the water bill at Pig & Pint. Just kidding. Thank you to whatever public works person accidentally broke the main water supply and sent us down the road. Because Rooster's is legit, and we'll absolutely be back.

We started eating here probably 30 years ago when it was the OG. Mike always got the crawfish enchiladas and I got the habanero cream sauce pasta with grilled shrimp. He got fried shrimp tonight. The shrimp were jumbo and fried perfect. The "depot" fries are frozen crinkle cut. He subbed the Mac and cheese for the okra. It's more of a less sauce old fashioned Mac and cheese. I got my old habanero cream sauce pasta. It was served in the tiniest of bowls but the amount of food was good. Why not serve it in a normal sized dish? I would rather have the 4 jumbo shrimp they used to serve back in the day rather than the smallish medium shrimp. The sauce was thicker than I prefer but flavor was decent. I'll try something different next time. The cocktails were delicious. Again, the service and speed of things was incredible for a party of 17. My biggest negative was the music is ridiculously loud. Serving food to 17 people with that music was diabolical and we could not even visit. The group was great but the volume needs to be turned down. Def recommend for a large group but be prepared for music that is concert volume.

I was so excited to come here because this is a duo restaurant + bake shop, serving Southern favorites. Upon entrance, I was greeted by the staff members in such a warm, hospitable manner. Since I traveled across the U.S. and flew in from California, I was quite famished. I ordered the following: * Hamburger Steak Entree (angus hamburger meat, mushrooms, onions & gravy): Selected the two sides - Mac & Cheese and Turnip Greens. Also came with a green salad (added boiled eggs) and a bread roll. A soft drink was even included with the entree. * Bowl of Seafood Gumbo All of the food was beyond palatable. Everything was super flavorful, and I enjoyed it all from the start to the finish. I was especially quite impressed with the taste of Turnip Greens and Seafood Gumbo (top favorites). The portion of the meal was generous and filling. I was feeling full and satisfied after consumption. I wasn't able to try any of the desserts. However, it was nice to know that there was a variety of freshly-baked sweet treats available. Options included cakes, cookies, pies, pound cakes, and breads. The ambiance of the restaurant gave it a family-oriented, neighborhood diner. The dining room was spacious, with a lot of tables and chairs available. The overall feel was cozy and inviting. From the pleasant customer service of the staff to the delicious food, Primos Cafe definitely delivers. I highly recommend stopping by.
