I heard about the BBQ at Pig and Pint so had to come here! I their 3 meats and 2 sides platter and I had the brisket, ribs, and sausage as the meats. I really like the ribs, they fell apart the bone really easily. I also normally like sausage with my meats as well so that stood out to me too. For my sides, I had potato salad and mango slaw. The mango slaw was interesting to me as I don't think I've had it before. It's basically a mix of mango with Cole slaw with an asian sauce. The sauce does have a kick to it though. I have been here enough now to say it's just ok. Honestly I'm feeling pretty gracious with three. Anyone can have an off day in BBQ. I get it. Cook and hold times vary by how busy you are, how the weather is outside can factor in, and especially which knucklehead was manning the smoker during the cook. These are all outside variables that you have to factor in when attempting to cook good smoked meats. It's not easy. I will admit. You have to have the perfect storm to be great. I've cooked enough, and eaten enough, of others good and bad BBQ to consider myself somewhat of an aficionado. This is just ok BBQ. Each visit I hope to be proven wrong but it never happens. I think they try to do too much with the menu and it dilutes would should be getting all of the focus. My food has never been particularly good. In fact, I think a lot of it is plain bad. The pork rinds have been inedible every single time. Once we had queso with them and it was almost one solid clump. Pulled pork sandwich may be the best thing I've had, I guess they got that part right. Ribs were fair but covered in a stupidly sweet sauce. Brisket has sucked every time. It's been old, dry, and I always end up with the lean side even after asking for fatty. Last time it wasn't even cut correctly and I had slices from both parts combined. Mac and cheese is gross and so are the beans. Plain and simple! Sauces are maybe the best thing they offer. The regular is way too sweet but everything else is pretty damn solid. Made a quick stop at The Pig & Pint in Jackson, MS during a road trip from Dallas to Atlanta because when you're in the South, BBQ is a must, right? I ordered takeout from the road, and it was ready and packed nicely when I arrived. This was actually my second visit. Last time, I tried the smoked mac and cheese and "comeback" coleslaw, which are both creative spins on the classics. Unfortunately, they had way too much going on for my taste and I couldn't eat either one (guess I'm a traditionalist when it comes to Mac & Cheese and coleslaw ;-). This time, I kept it simple: brisket and bread. I ordered both lean and moist chopped brisket. The lean was solid; the moist was too fatty. But mixing a little of the moist with the lean on a brioche bun made it work. Heads up if you order just meat...bread and sauce come separately, so don't forget to ask. Also, service is really nice, which I appreciate. It's not the best BBQ I've had, but it hits the spot. They've been crowded both times I've visited, and I can see why...great reviews and it's a local favorite! Cool location and plenty of seating if you're dining in. This is some of the best barbecue you will ever have. It's hard to go wrong when you order. I always get the taco sampler and fried green tomatoes. I got an order of their Pepsi Glazed wings and then placed a to go order of brisket, beans and Banana's Foster banana pudding. I then went around the corner in the same building to get a beer. You cannot order these 2 things from the same counter which is weird to me. They had about 4 beers on tap and ton more in bottle and cans. They have a small area inside to sit but also a screened in porch, another porch with a covering and a large open outdoor area. Anyway, I hate Pepsi but these wings were phenomenal. Perfectly crisp, flavorful and sauced perfectly. I hate it when wings are swimming in sauce, these had the perfect amount. These were washed down with a Parish Brewing Infinite Ghost Hazy IPA. Perfection. I ate the brisket and beans a few hours later at my hotel. The brisket was a little too fatty but still good. The beans were flavorful with a mustard based sauce. Unfortunately they messed up the dessert by accidentally giving me bread pudding. The bread pudding was good but man I had my heart set on the banana pudding.
