If you live or are visiting Jackson, support this place! I'm a native Texan, but grew up on the MS Coast, so I know BBQ and good food. I am also a pitmaster. This is probably some of the best BBQ I've ever put in my mouth. The brisket was crazy moist and had a great bark. The ribs had a great rub, super tender, with a perfect pull. Side salad and fried okra were equally as good. I only intended to eat 2 of the churros but before I knew it I ate them all. They also have a great beer selection and a full bar. The portions were more than adequate. I'm a big boy and couldn't eat it all. In fact, I over stuffed myself so I didn't give the impression that I didn't like anything. My server, Grace, was personable and attentive. The owner stopped by the table 2 or 3 times to make sure everything was good. Great ambiance as well. A ton of food - arrive hungry Had the Brisket sandwich and wings / both good (The Brisket is excellent) Mac and cheese creamy and cheesy - a bit soupy maybe... but delicious! Fried Okra hot and crisp Fries good and came hot Barbecue sauce is sweet and thick - came on the side. Huge menu lots of choice - We will be back - as much for the staff as the food! Right away the service was top notch. Our server Kyndel was amazing, I loved her friendly vibe and she did great taking care of our table. It was also a nice touch to have a conversation with the owner, and hearing about his future plans for the restaurant. Speaking about the restaurant, it's very spacious and there are plenty of good seats to watch the big screen tv. There's even a bar if you choose to dine there. 2 meat combo- Ribs were tender and seasoned really good. Came with choice (2) of sides. We were visiting from KY and came across this business. Service was amazing. The owner was there and he actually sat us and came to the table a few times. You would never know he was the owner. Plenty of parking in a lot. No problems at all. Now to the food. It all was soooooo good. The ribs were so tender and almost fell off the bone. Bbq sauce was really good as well. Mac n cheese was the cheesiest Mac n cheese I have ever had. Very good. I had elote as well. It was good but I will say I have had better. The person I was with got the loaded potato salad and oh my was it delicious. If you don't like mayo, this is not the salad for you. It was definitely mayo based and no mustard. Bbq is a staple on the south! Boondocks is the latest entry in the local bbq arena and it's a refreshing place to eat. Most of the bbq places in Jackson are pickup only, with most of them being either in a gas station or at a food truck. That is one thing I appreciate about Boondocks....it's a sit-down option to enjoy some bbq. Inside is nice. I had dined at the previous restaurant, which was a casual spot with some good food. Not much has changed in the dinning room, which is fine to me. Service is good as well. My friend and I both ordered the 2-meat plate, each getting the ribs and brisket. She opted for the elote corn and Mac & cheese, while I got the cheesy baked potato casserole and coleslaw. I enjoyed the brisket. It was very tender. Could have used just a hint more of seasoning but it was worth the price. Ribs were ok. Very meaty but lacking the wow factor I get from some other spots. Coleslaw was very good. It was a great selection for me to pick this but the cheesy baked potato casserole was not good at all. Owner came out of the kitchen every so often to greet customers. That was a plus. My friend said her elote corn was cold and she wanted to send it back for regular corn on the cob. He took it back and replaced it with a very hot piece that she enjoyed. Food and service were phenomenal. I was in town for work and stopped by around lunch time to kill some time. Waitress was very helpful with the menu. I'm not a big sandwich guy much less pulled pork but I went out on a limb and man was I glad I did. The best bbq sandwich I have ever had. Great food along with a tea and the price was less than $22. They have the best most tender ribs I've ever had. Barbecue is one of my least favorite categories of food usually because the meat is too tough. I just typically don't enjoy it. The best ribs I've ever eaten anywhere. Green beans had flavor, great cobbler, really nice environment and kind people. I'm so glad to have this addition to the Belhaven neighborhood. I've already been twice, and I fully plan to keep coming back. Everything I've tried has been solid. The wings are well-executed with plenty of sauce options, and the burger is classic -- no notes. Where this place really shines, though, is the sides. These are true Southern BBQ joint sides done right. The mac and cheese is easily a 10/10, with a crunchy crust on top that seals the deal, and the fried okra tastes fresh and skillet-fried rather than greasy. I also had the fried catfish, which was fried to perfection -- fresh fish, well-seasoned, and not oily at all. One thing I really appreciate is the vegetarian option: saucy tofu bites. Not many BBQ spots in the South offer real meatless options, and this one actually delivers. Being able to toss the tofu in any of the wing sauces makes it feel intentional, not like an afterthought. The space itself works well in the old Lou's Restaurant building, and service has been quick and friendly both times I've visited. The owner has been present and has made a point to walk around, talk to customers, and invite feedback, which says a lot this early on. There's also a decent-sized bar area, though for now it's beer only -- I'd love to see them expand the bar menu and maybe add a happy hour down the line. Overall, this place is definitely worth a visit, and I'm excited to see how it continues to grow. read more

Dropped by for lunch and our meal was amazing, all the food was very flavorful and service staff extremely friendly and helpful with suggestions from their wonderful menu. been twice now. once for dine-in, once take out. food was great both times - got the Death by Pig sandwich + a half rack of ribs, and today got the catfish to-go. The mac and cheese is a little spicy and has a nice crunchy parmesan crust. The fish was thin and crispy even after a 10 minute car ride back to work. Ribs are great, lots of sauces to try (try the buttermilk barbecue!), sandwiches are huge. Atmosphere is great (RIP Lou's), staff is friendly and professional, and the owner(s) are walking around checking on things. All in all, 10 out of 10, would def recommend! read more

I decided to try something different today for lunch. It was a Thursday and it wasn't very busy. The atmosphere was very welcoming. There were multiple TV's around with sports on. Some company was there eating a luncheon. It seems like a good place to just grab a bite. There is a hostess at the door, and you have the option to sit at booth or table. I was seated a booth by the hostess. My waitress Brenee was super sweet. The entire staff repeatedly asked me did I need anything and was very courteous. I decided to try the brisket and ribs. Those are my definite go to item at a BBQ restaurant. The menu may seem little pricey however, I had enough food for two meals and when it comes to smoking BBQ I fully understand the cost. I had okra, baked beans, and Mac & cheese as side items with a Hawaiian roll. Then they had a variety of about 5 BBQ sauces to choose from. I went with the sweet sauce and a buttermilk bbq sauce (it was really good). The ribs were very tender, had a nice smoke profile, and seasoned just right. The bark on the brisket was perfect I got it sliced and it was a good cut of lean and fat. The okra was fried just right, it was lightly dusted. The baked beans were seasoned well with ground beef. The macaroni & cheese was different for me, it was a beer flavored cheese. The owner Cody stopped by and ask how was everything and that makes a huge difference to me when people still care about their customers. Disappointing. There was a puddle of grease on, in, and under both burgers. The fries, which we inexplicably had to pay separate for, were definitely from a frozen bag, unseasoned, and undercooked by a mile. The burgers had decent flavor, but were impossible to eat without a mountain of napkins. The mild BBQ sauce was so thin it might as well have been flavored vinegar. Maybe other plates are better, but the amount of food we were actually able to eat was not worth the money spent. read more

This is a very nice place for anytime of day. The atmosphere was great the food was great and the owner and staff were so nice and welcoming.
