Wow! This place is wonderful. We tried the rib tips , pork steak, baked beans and Mac and cheese everything was delicious. The pork tips were tender and falling apart. The pork steak was fork tender and favorable. Everything was smoked perfectly. Baked beans were as good as candy and the Mac and Cheese creamy and wonderful. The sauce was amazing. I bought two bottles to take home. The service was excellent and professional. They could not have been nicer. The restaurant is clean and atmosphere inviting. This is about 5 miles off I 20. Well worth the detour. read more

They were clearly unprepared for a lunch crowd. Service and food were slow to arrive. Bbq was great. Got my order wrong but we rolled with it. Hated the sauce. Has a strong back flavor that was all wrong. read more

The ribs and rib tips were good. The barbecue sauce and fried okra was excellent. Service was fast, professional and great. Will definitely try again if I'm in the area. I enjoyed it! read more

Yum yum! Good ole smoked meats and traditional barbeque sides! You know when you pull up to the parking lot and there are no spaces, the food will be the bomb. I stood in line waiting behind six or seven people as the man in front of me complained that he would pass out if he didn't eat soon. He even suggested that I would too! *crying laughing* I finally reached the cashier after staring down the lemonade canister for fifteen minutes. The lemonade looked heavenly, and it did not disappoint. I am tempted to drive back there now for some, but I digress. I also ordered a rib tip plate with cole slaw and french fries. The cole slaw had much too much dressing for my taste, but it was decent. The fries were simple crinkle cut. The tasty tips beckoned me to nibble on them on my drive back home, and I obliged. I love that the meat was served without sauce. I don't usually eat it. The meat was so good, it didn't need sauce. Really good southern barbeque. I look forward to trying the smoked turkey on my next visit. read more

Wow best damned BBQ of my life ! Smoked, you can taste the earth in each clean bite. Generous portions, got 1/2 slab and rib tips plate w 2 sides, could prob feed 4 people. Get the big sweet vinegar onions. Sauce comes on the side and is so unique: caramel and dark, molasses. Got a bottle of that too ! read more

Sylvester's food still grilled on an outside grill. The taste is a true grill taste. I love grilled food is why I chose to eat here.

Great service, awesome bbq. Highly recommend if you like sweet tangy sauce and perfect cooked ribs.

Great BBQ!! Family owned and operated business. Ribs are fantastic and their sauce had just enough sweetness to compliment the flavor of the seasoning. Always a favorite read more

I wasn't hungry and neither was my SO, but my SO wanted to try some real Mississippi BBQ so we stopped by here. Sylvester's is literally a gas station off the highway outside of Jackson MS. My SO ordered pork ribs with sides of baked beans and potato salad. The cashier was nice enough to point out that it would be cheaper to order the same thing as a rib plate, which he did. I just got one chicken wing just to try something. We also saw the others workers being super nice and polite to other customers. As I just had the one chicken wing (delicious) I'll let my SO take it from here: After eating our way across Mississippi I wasn't really hungry at all, so I ordered my rib plate to go. I thought I'd try it while it was warm though, so we sat down for a moment for me to try a quick bite. Big mistake. The first bite of the rib was succulent, juicy, flavorful, exactly what I was hoping for. This was a five star rib for sure. I knew they made their own bbq sauce though so I got up and asked the cashier if I could get a side. She somehow managed to tell me that it was in the to go bag without making me feel like an idiot, so I sat back down and dipped my rib into the sauce. My second and fatal mistake. Sweet, tangy, very mildly spicy, and another flavor breaking through....maple syrup. I tore into the second rib, then the third. Ignoring my overtaxed stomach and forgetting that this was a to go order I ripped into the fourth, then the baked beans (fantastic, I think they also had maple syrup) and the potato salad (also great) and then back to the fifth rib before I realized what I had done. As I write this I am in some level of pain, but it was worth every bite, and I'm actually somehow salivating thinking about the several ribs I have left in my mangled to go box. Sylvester's is the reason we try really hard to save five star reviews for the really outstanding places. We were already running late and it was a few miles out of our way to get here, but it was completely worth it. Don't pass this by. read more

We LOVE this place! The best bbq and the bbq sauce is so GOOD! Please GO and try it.

Excellent food. Good service. Best ribs anywhere! Good beans and potato salad. Love the pork sausage!

I love dry ribs but the BBQ sauce is out of this world delicious! If you see an over full parking lot it's for a reason. I recommend you stop to find out. read more

So good I don't even have pictures because we cleaned our plates before I could snap anything. Ribs are the best I've EVER eaten. And I've lived in Texas, on the East Coast and AZ. Nothing even compares to Sylvester's! Don't even need the sauce although it too is delicious. I dip fries in it. Baked beans were top notch and the turkey leg is smoked to perfection. Wish they still had their lemonade but they're right next door to a gas station so you can just pop in there. Best BBQ in the country! read more

Enjoyed the ribs and sausage Food was great !!! Like the old school feel of the place read more

OMG. This is what people think about when you think of a barbecue joint-in the best sense. It shares space with a gas station. Menu is on the wall. The place smells amazing. The people are friendly and everyone is greeted. You can eat in at or take out. We ate in at the cute red checkered table cloth tables. Now to the real story - the barbecue is amazing! The spice is smokey and rich. I had rib tips and my hubby had ribs and sausage. Yum!! Neither of us could eat all the food so we get to enjoy our dinner for another meal. Loved the food and loved the place. So fun! read more

This is great food. Chicken , Beef, Pork, ribs or sides...it's all amazing. Ribs are my favorite.

After reading reviews on Yelp we decided to try this place. Well it is a one and done. Service was fast but the food was awful. My husband and I both had the pork sandwich with a side of beans. The sandwich had so much sauce on it you couldn't taste the meat. The baked beans tasted like Van Camps baked beans out of the can. What a waste of money read more

I dance with the ribs in the moonlight and me and the pork get in a fight!!! I love this place!!! I will have a hole in my headstone to put this barbeque in!!! read more

One of the best bbq around! Rib tips are excellent! Always great customer service as well

awesome food and great service. sylvester been around forever and is all about the community

This place is attached to a gas station so you could miss it if you are not paying attention. As soon as you drive up the smell is hypnotizing! This was the BEST BBQ I have ever tasted!!!! The sauce tasted like honey. The pickled onions were delicious. The rib tips were moist and tender. The smoke sausage was just right. Not too salty or greasy. I will definitely be back. 1 Word: YUM read more

I love their food. They have friendly service. Wish they were open everyday. The Boom

Take-out place attached to gas station, about 4 mi south of I20. Don't let exterior fool you 'cause food was Great!! It was end of day (closes 6:30p), so limited selection, but there was enough. Both of us had rib plate with BBQ beans, Mac 'n cheese, & potato salad, about a cup of each. Had 4th side, but passed on it due to generous servings. Got 5-6 ribs on each plate. Everything had deep, rich flavor & thick consistency. Ribs had dry rub, so not greasy, but cooked just right. Will definitely return next time in the area!! Don't miss this place! read more

Tried out Sylvester's during some stay-cation time in late May after hearing rave reviews of the place for a long time. Excellent BBQ. Went there for the first time today. Had the BBQ Rib Tips, Beef Sausage, baked beans and mac-n-cheese. The ribs were well seasoned and tasty., fall off the bone. The restaurant was very clean. The atmosphere was pleasant. Service was quick and painless. Showed up around 12:30 pm which was good as the place started to fill up with customers. I would recommend this place to all my friends. read more

The BBQ is AMAZING!!! So You will definitely have to wait in line to order and get food. The wait on food wasn't as long as the line to order. But the wait was well worth it. I ordered the rib tip basket and 1/2 slab of ribs! The meat comes without sauce on the meat, but the give you plenty to add if you like. I ate my food without sauce, and it was great. It's really tender and served hot. The staff are very busy but they are nice. They keep you updated on your order status as you wait so you don't sit around wondering if they forgot about you. There is an area for you to sit if you choose to dine in. I say give this place a try at least once, you won't regret it. read more

Amazing bbq!! Unfortunately they were out of ribs but the rib tips were great. The chicken wings were the best we've ever tasted and the pork sandwich was sublime. The beans were as good as the Yelp reviews and the sauce - we could drink that all day long!! Worth the wait and drive to get this bbq. Awesome service as well. All the lovely ladies behind the counter were helpful and so pleasant. First taste of Mississippi bbq - I can't imagine there's better than this. read more

The best bbq hands down! I make it a point to stop here every time I come to MS. They offer every kind of meat you could want: ribs, beef or pork sausage, rib tips, etc. the sides are good! And they even make their own barbecue sauce! This joint is popular so be prepared to call ahead or wait in line. Today we came at 1115am and within 20 minutes, they were out of ribs. That lets you know how good this place is. Fall off the bone meat, friendly staff, and tasty potato salad. I always leave satisfied. Just FYI for those who are gluten-free, the bbq sauce is gluten free and you can get your meat without bread. I opted for potato salad and baked beans for my two sides. Staff aren't really versed in allergens but they were nice enough to go through the ingredient list with me. If you're in the area, make a stop. read more

Great food. I visited Mississippi for the first time and everyone I met recommended this place. Definitely a diamond in the rough. In a gas station and by looking at it, you'd never think there was a bbq spot there. Sweet tea is great and so is the potato salad. A hidden gem. I definitely will be back when I visit again. read more

The meats are the best in this area but the sides suck! But the worst part about this place is the customer service! The only reason I would choose not to return to a place with decent food is customer service! And the customer service here was worse than McDonald's!!! I love to support black owned businesses but the way I was treated today, I'LL NEVER RETURN! read more

Picked up my son from college today, so we decided to try the place all the students at his school rave about. He ordered the rib plate. So we will start there. The ribs are really good, well seasoned. They come dry rubbed, bbq sauce on the side, with 2 huge sides, and bread. The potato salad is store bought. The fries need season. But those ribs are incredible. Nice Smokey flavor. They sell their bbq sauce as well. I'm not actually a fan of it. It's edible, but the nutmeg and cinnamon are too strong. Taste more like a topping for sweet potatoes. I ordered the cheeseburger. Man this thing is massive. Well seasoned. Smokey meat. It was good. The sweet tea is phenomenal. My son had the lemonade, it's a premix, but it's ok. But that TEA!!! Yes! Give them a try! The cashier was friendly enough. The order was out in about 10 minutes. The owner was plating and passing out orders. He was really nice and efficient. Working diligently to get the crowd out! It was packed. read more
