Been a long time since I'd eaten at The Trace Grill so I gave it a shot today for lunch. It was about 11:30am so the place was packed already, and three order lines with a drink machine in the middle made for quite a traffic jam. I ordered a catfish reuben? with the fried green tomatoes. The servers carry your order around the entire restaurant calling out your name until you happen to hear them, by which time the food's cool after the tour. At least the staff were friendly and the food tasty, especially those tomatoes. The reuben was odd, but not unpleasant, so I should probably stick to corned beef. read more

Dined at The Trace Grill for the first time and was pleasantly pleased with the food. The service was quick and efficient. There is plenty of seating and the ambiance was good. Cozy spot tucked away alongside a business strip. My mom wanted to come for lunch as she enjoyed her first experience. Inside you place your order and pay at the register. Then you self serve your drinks and choose your seats. I got their blue plate special of the fried catfish with the turnip greens, mac & cheese, & creamed corn. The place reminds me of Ajax in Oxford. But the taste didn't compare. The mac & cheese wasn't as cheesy as I would have liked it to be. The fish was fine but I would've preferred it fried hard. The turnip greens were ok. Tasted it fine with the hot sauce. I am glad they added the cornbread to it but I didn't like the salty taste of it. Great customer service. it is hard to decide what to eat at Trace Grill since everything is delicious. But, if you are like me it is hard to ever pass on Redfish. I had mine blackened and it was served with a mountain of mouthwatering onion rings. The price is truly amazing as well. I was highly disappointed the hamburger steak was overcooked blacken in some spaces with holes in other and just dry, the greens taste like they had a pound of sugar in them and overdone mushy, fried green tomatoes undercooked and had enough batter that you could've made pancakes, Mac and cheese very dry and uneatable. It was a terrible meal I've been sick and I went there to get me something to eat, and I could hardly eat anything on that plate highly disappointed. I want my money back. I don't live in the metro Jackson area anymore but I am so glad we came to Trace Grill while up here for a doctor appointment. My husband had fried catfish and I had fried chicken "tenders"... which was really like two large chicken breasts. Onion rings are made in house and not to be missed. Definitely get some honey mustard to go with those! Everything was delicious as always. Such great southern food. I love that the interior honors the old location with the photo panels. read more

Excellent family location! Perfect place to sit and dine with the whole family. Onion rings are the best. They have specials each day. Thursday night was the chicken parm. We were there with 7 family members. Our dinners ranged from the chicken parm, fried catfish, chicken rosemary, chicken strips, baked chicken, garden salad with grilled chicken and a vegetable plate. It was so thick, thick with meat, ground beef perhaps... that I took 90% of my meal Home, added a can of Ro Tel, and a can of black beans, left it on low on the stove for 40 minutes , it turned into wonderful chili. I took my brother and sister-in-law to lunch last week at The Trace Grill after being told it was a great place. It's a cool space, but the meal was less than desirable. I had the pork chop, and it was so tough the knife wouldn't cut through. We wanted butter for the corn bread, but it wasn't available. I told the lady at the counter when we were leaving about the pork chop, and she said they can be tough. Really?? Why didn't you tell me that it can be tough when I was ordering, and I would have ordered a different meal. I don't have a reason to go back. read more

Have lived in ridgeland many years and this is one of my consistent favorites. So many different options for food and have yet to find one I didn't like. The staff is always so friendly and helpful. The food here is pretty good. You get a pretty good sized portion. The fried fish, meatloaf/hamburger steak and burgers are good. The sides are good (Mashed potatoes and cornbread). My only regrets are the mac n cheese. Dont taste good. Other than that, I was surprised by the flavor/seasoning of the food. You can taste flavor!!! Check em out!
