Passing through on the way home and this popped up on Yelp. The place is a cafeteria style of dining where they serve you your food in to-go Styrofoam containers with plastic fork/knives. I had the chicken fried steak with brown gravy, it was good. The sides were okay too. Lunch envy - sampled the boss's fried chicken and it was pretty good and everyone said they loved the pork chop. The boss threw away her strawberry cake, said it was dry and didn't taste good, but the kids liked the cheesecake. The line was out the door and service isn't the quickest, but wasn't that overly long. I guess if you had to sit and order your food it would be longer than the system they used to serve food. For the price and what you get/what it is it was definitely worth the stop and I would go back and try different meals. read more

We were hopeful for this place because my husband loves a home style meat and three, but we were disappointed. The line to get in was extremely long and SLOW. This is not a buffet it is a go down the line and point out what you want and they serve it. While we waited in line for so long we decided part of the problem is they have so many options and no one knows what they have until they finally make it to their turn so then they have to sit a decide. Seems like it would be super helpful if they would write the daily offerings on a white board so everyone could see while they wait and be deciding. It was a slow process for each person to decide. I gave three stars because it was clean and plenty of seating and the people were very nice that served you but Food wasn't very tasty our pork chops were SO dry and most everything lacked flavor. Another downer was they only offer tea to drink. All in all we probably won't be back when they cost more than Mama Hamils for much less variety and flavor. read more

Mama's Kitchen was a welcomed stop on our recent road trip. This cafeteria style restaurant delivers well seasoned southern cooking at a reasonable price. (~$38 for 5). We knew when we walked through the door that we had picked the right place. Filled with locals and the aroma of fresh home cooking. "Mama's" son immediately struck up a conversation with us. Where we were traveling to? Where we were from? He thanked us for stopping in to eat with them and even sent over a sample of bread pudding for us to try. (We're from Louisiana--bread pudding is a big deal there). The bread pudding was delicious. It was different than what we have in Louisiana. The "greens" were perfectly seasoned-not even a hint of bitterness. The jalapeño cornbread was great and the chicken was fried to perfection. I would definitely go back. The food was delicious and the Southern Hospitality was off the charts. read more

I've been here several times now and its always good. Served cafeteria/plate lunch style, you get a choice of one meat, rice/potatoes, two vegetables, and a bread. I usually go for the country fried steak and mashed potatoes with white gravy, fried okra, and mac & cheese or black eyed peas and jalapeno corn bread, but I've also had the fried chicken which is really good too. They have three or four other meats to pick from and probably 15 types of vegetables and a plethora of deserts. 5 adults and a child ate and got drinks for $45 so its reasonably priced and very delicious. Just make sure your preacher doesn't get long winded on Sunday morning or you'll be waiting a while in the church crowd. read more

This place is good. Not in my opinion a 5 star but it is a solid 4. Above average preparation. Good selection of meats and veggies. Really good bread pudding. And, it's $9.
