I love the open outdoor spaces! I love the folks working behind the counter! I love the style! I love the fact that you can find a place like this in the middle of nowhere! I love that I love all of the places this guy has ever been affiliated with so much! Such great places all over the area! You should seek them all out. I mentioned I loved the brisket. I need to say this. I stay on a hunt for this kind of smoked meat. The brisket I had was perfect. In all ways that it could be. I cannot describe it and do it any justice. Took a detour from Vicksburg to eat here on way to Laurel as part of our vacation...Hubby had eaten at chef's restaurant in Jackson -Walker''s Diner around 2014. Plus found out he was a chef in our backyard here in Roswell, GA too! (Dick & Harry's) We arrived to restaurant & no cars in front...prayed they hadn't sold out...drove in back...but then parked up front...It was Friday around 2:45 in Middle of May. Yeah! The door was open! We walked in & walked right up to the counter! I had already scoured the menu...hubby ordered Brisket, collards & slaw. I had the turkey, corn salad & green beans. At the side counter you can pick your sauces...& pickles & pickled onions. Plus drinks! The unsweet tea was excellent! Hubby loved his brisket & sides. The turkey plus Carolina mustard sauce was the best! Loved the corn salad....it was cold & refreshing & the green beans were great too! We were full. I wanted a t-shirt & the sweet young woman helped me pick my shirt & made sure I was happy with my choice! So glad we stopped here & had a great time. We just moved to Brandon from Texas and have been reading about Sacred Ground for a while now and yesterday decided to take a ride up 49 and try this bbq. We sure are glad we did! I got the Prime Brisket Plate with potato salad and the Mac & cheese and hubby got the beef rib (huge) and potato salad. Everything was so delicious! I read great reviews about Sacred Ground BBQ and drove from Brandon to have lunch there. I ordered the rib plate expecting something good. Meat on ribs usually falls off the bone. I've never had ribs so dry. My daughter said it looked like I was sawing with my knife. This place claims to have great BBQ but it wasn't. My collards were not good and the mac and cheese was fair. When I placed my order I asked the cashier where my change was ($.53) and she said "we don't have any." Is this their way of tipping themselves? My receipt showed she gave me $77.53. My meal was $22.47 and I had given her $100. My receipt is check #42 on 7/16/26 at 12.53 pm. (She walked away and came back with $.75, gave it to me and said nothing.) It's located right outside Jackson, Mississippi. I ordered two beef ribs. They were nice enough to wrap them separately for me because I was going to freeze them and bring them back home to Atlanta with me. The Smashburger was really really good. We've eaten the beef ribs that we brought back and I can't wait to go back next year and get the same thing. So if you're ever close to Jackson Mississippi. It's definitely worth a trip. We went there Sunday for lunch. My wife wanted to sample a few different meats. I didn't see a 2 or 3 meat option on the menu which are typical at most BBQ. I asked the young lady taking my order if they had one and she asked a coworker and she said they could make me one. So, I got a piece of jalapeño sausage, four ribs, and small tray of pulled pork and two sides plus one drink. My total was $43. I was shocked. Now the barbecue and sides tasted good, but not worth the price I paid. I stood at the ice / drink machine waiting for the ice to be refilled for at least 5 minutes.my two sides were brought to our table about 5-10 minutes later. I might try them one more time. Everything we tried was delicious--brisket, pulled pork, ribs, fries, and mac and cheese. The barbecue sauce is different than other places we have around here, but it has great flavor and compliments the food well. I'm normally not a big fan of pulled pork, but theirs was delicious. Brisket is done right, and the sides are really good. Next time I'm hoping to try the nachos--they looked amazing! The atmosphere is really fun and much nicer and more fun than most places we have in the Jackson area. So many of our good barbecue restaurants are holes in the wall type. Sacred Ground is not like that; it's the perfect place for a gathering with friends, to watch a game, or eat while kids play. I loved the seating arrangements of both indoor and outdoor dining areas. We went right at opening, so people hadn't gotten seated yet. I anticipate this place will have a wait once word really gets out. We will be back! read more

This is the worst barbecue I have ever eaten. Everything is steeped in vinegar. The vinegar taste of the pork ribs builds with each bite. They have three sauces, red BBQ, White Alabama, and Carolina. They are all thin and runny, and all taste just the same, like vinegar. My wife got the pulled pork and she couldn't handle it either. Horrible, horrible food. I wish I had my $52 back. read more

Regretfully, this is the worst meal I have in quite a while. I am not a "foodie" by any means. so I am not hard to please when eating out. However, I do like my food hot, and, at the very least, warm. My two small slices of brisket were tasty and tender but lukewarm, and my fries were cold--yes, cold. The green beans were the warmest thing I had, but they had a weird flavor, almost like someone had added the much- too-tangy bbq sauce to them. And the half slice of Bunny bread? Is that some kind of joke? Rolls or cornbread are not expensive and are easy to bake. That would be a better choice than a half piece of loaf bread that I can get at the grocery store. I am glad others have enjoyed eating there because I like to see restaurants succeed, but, personally, I will continue to eat at other restaurants that serve hot food. read more

Yup! Good enough to stop a train BBQ is back in Pocahontas! Great q with a nice outdoor eating area and indoor dining. (The menu is NOT vegetarian friendly, has no chicken, and no kids/senior menu.) But the meat eaters are lining up for good reason. Please note - Google and Apple Maps both had their address wrong and routed us to some random driveway in Flora. They are located directly across the street from the Indian mounds on 49, spitting distance from where Big D's was (now a dollar store.) Be sure to check out the sauces! The fried pie was meh. Our group tried the brisket (melt in your mouth with a beautiful smoke ring) and beef rib (best I've had outside of the top bbq joints in TX.) Also tried the brussels, green chili mac n cheese, beans, and smoked corn salad. All were fantastic! You could make a meal off of the sides alone! Taste is subjective, but their bbq doesn't work for me. The meat is fine, and the sandwiches are full of it, but they also load their sandwiches with a very vinegary slaw which I didn't care for. Only 3 bbq sauces to choose from. A yellow Carolina mustard sauce, Alabama white sauce, and a red sauce. Their red sauce had a smoky chipotle flavor. Didn't care for it. I'm not sure whether to be thrilled that this new spot opened up not far from where I live because after two visits, I will attest that it is excellent and I'm gonna be tempted to visit often! We don't eat out a whole lot, but the meats at Sacred Ground are stellar. The tri-tip and the lean brisket are my favorites but everything we have drive has been smoky and delicious. We've also had the nachos in a can, burnt ends, brussels sprouts, and hatch mac & cheese. We enjoyed all of these! It was very busy each time we went, but I called ahead and picked up our food to go as we had a toddler staying with us who was in bed by the time we were ready to eat There's a separate line for takeout so it was quick and efficient. They have a condiment station with at least three kinds of barbecue sauce. Surprisingly we preferred the Carolina, which is kind of a golden colored vinegar sauce, but it had just enough sweetness. The regular and Alabama barbecue sauces were both very good too. I love that they have jalapeños, pickled red onion, and pickles also available on the station. Serving sizes are generous in my opinion. All the meat is sold by the half pound, and we found that a pound easily fed four of us with a few small sides. They have done a great job making it a fun place to dine in even though we haven't had a chance yet.
