I loved everything except the fact there was a delay in acknowledging my presence when I walked in and greeting me. The restaurant was clean and well lit and doing bustling business. There were many families there in their Sundays finest (as today is Sunday) and enjoying a Sunday meal. The food was prepared quickly and it was delicious. I could tell the fish was prepared fresh and it so delicious. And it tasted like catfish. I only say that because very often now when I eat out and buy fried catfish it tastes like whiting. Or some other fish. And not catfish. But this dish tasted like catfish and it was seasoned well and piping hot. I ordered a side of cabbage and red beans and rice and they were all delicious. The staff was diverse. I absolutely loved that. There was ample parking. The restaurant had a very varied menu and offered a variety of dishes. That was fantastic. I loved absolutely everything about the place including my food. If I had to give a small minus to the restaurant it would be the fact that i was not greeted when I walked in and walked up to the counter. One woman was on the phone but she saw me. The other lady was right in front of me and she also ignored me. This bothered me. However when she finally got off the phone she was very attentive. The greens, purple hull peas, and sweet potato pie were a gentle reminder of my youth, when Aunt Minnie would ask, "you kids eat yet?" The beef roast was delicious & the Mac n cheese was amazing. I've heard that the ribs and baked beans are absolutely amazing but I'm yet to try them. It looks like a hole in the wall but whoever is cooking the food knows what they're doing!! $40 and you have a huge meal for 3 people, with leftovers for dinner and extra drinks. We are traveling through from far west Texas to SC and stopped in Canton overnight. We didn't want to drive far to eat, wanted something local and not corporate, and opted for Marlo's since it was walking distance from the AirBnb (hint: this isn't a good place to walk if it's been raining- very soggy and flooded sidewalks). We found Marlo's thoroughly enjoyable. Local BBQ. Wonderful people work here. Absolutely wonderful people who have the gift of gab which is right up my wife's alley. Lots of talking, lots of "yes, you will eat two peach cobblers" kind of look. And, you will eat two portions. Did I say the food was good? Well, it is. Cajun sausage was delicious. Ribs and chicken had that great sauciness folks east of Texas love (in Texas, they say, if there's sauce on it, you probably overcooked it...but, this ain't Texas, now is It?). Meats were well prepared, flavorful, and juicy. The greens...OMG THE GREENS!!! Potato salad, slaw, and mac/cheese were good compliments. OMG THE GREENS- GET 'EM! Overall, very reasonably priced.
