A spot I would visit, again... I ordered at the counter and waited a couple of minutes for a tidy packed meal of piping hot wing drumettes, a biscuit, and a tasty Belgian style waffle. The biscuit was forgettable however, the wings were of my dreams- well seasoned and just out of the fryer. The waffle had a magical hint of cinnamon favoring that soaked up the real bitter and syrup I slathered on them.

It is, by far, the cutest spot in downtown Jackson, with the colorful outdoor seating. There are two menus, one on the wall and the other on the counter. The one on the wall confused me just a bit. It had an ending time for breakfast, but the guy behind the counter explained that breakfast is served all day, and the second time is when lunch starts. So, I ordered the waffle and wings, which didn't disappoint. I like a fluffy waffle, and that's what I got: easy to cut with your fork. Yes, I could have used a knife, but I know when I'm able to use my fork, the waffle is cooked at the right temperature. Now, let's get to the wings. I don't know what recipe they are using, and the staff is sure not telling. But I can tell you that the wings have the right amount of tenderness and crispness at the same time. You don't have to pull or tug. They are well-seasoned inside and out, meaning the skin. Like I mentioned before, they're tender and crispy. Now, it's a small place with plenty of individual and shared tables. Also, there's an outdoor seating area. It's a popular place, but the line moves pretty quickly. I actually found Sugar's Place on social media. It made headlines with one of the food bloggers, but from what I gathered, it was already very popular. But it was nice that Sugar's garnered so much attention a food blogger rolled in, stopping by!

Chicken tenders and waffle

Stopped by for breakfast. This is a small diner type restaurant near the school of law. Parking can be difficult but the food makes up for it. I ordered the chicken tenders and waffles. Waffle reminds me of a Waffle House waffle due to shape and size but it's better. The chicken tenders were seasoned expertly as well. Food didn't take long to come out and it was hot. I really enjoyed my breakfast there and look forward to trying the other items on the breakfast and lunch menu.

Yesterday I was so determined to try the Chicken & Waffles, I woke up did what I had to do for the day & headed over there. It's located in a small building right across from the law school so if you drive too quick you'll miss it. I ordered two orders of the chicken and waffle plate with fried wings. It took about 12-15 minutes for it to be ready. It was still very warm by the time I drove all the way home. The waffle is one of those large waffles that remind you of the waffles at Waffle House, but of course fluffier. It was good but it's the chicken that steals the show!! So flavorful and crispy I had to eat them by themselves with the good ole' Louisiana hot sauce. The staff was super friendly as well and the waiting area was vibrant & clean. Can't wait to return and try more items on the menu.

Grilled Shrimp Salad

Great lunch spot! I ordered the Grilled Shrimp Salad with the Come Back Sauce for dressing. The food was ready quickly and the staff checked in to see if we liked our food. I never would have thought to put pickles on a salad, but it was awesome and my friend was dipping her Fried Okra in the Come Back sauce.

Honey bun cake!

The place is small but the food is off the chain. I plan on returning for breakfast very soon. The service is at the counter and quick.

I believe anyone who has ever come through Mississippi for a brief or long stay knows about The Hot…read moreSmokes at Big Apple Inn. Now, it's up to you if you want hot, mild, or no heat. But trust me, we all get the hot. It's the right amount of heat that doesn't set your mouth on fire. You don't need a glass of water nearby. The heat, in this case, adds flavor to an already-favorable sandwich. Another thing is that no one orders, just one smoke. In the past, I saw numbers go as high as ten hot smokes and five pig ears. Yes, they serve the most tender pig ears. But yesterday, the orders were as high as 35 smokes and several pig ears. And if you don't want the pig ears on a bun, it's your choice to have them put in a container. Also, I love the family atmosphere; it's a small place with a couple of long tables. Most people come in know the next person in line, and they shoot the breeze until their order is ready. I'm sure that during my college days, I accepted lots of dates in that line. We all did! But, I want you to know there is a second location now, and I'm sure it's just as good as this one with the same recipe, but I prefer this location in the heart of Downtown Farrish Street.

This right here is down south at its best. I can't call this place a whole in the wall but it feels…read morethat way. The folks working here are entertaining and the experience or ordering is one that I have never seen before. They write your order on a paper bag or a piece of cardboard! Not to mention there is a line of people against the wall waiting on their orders and we just strike up a convo it was true southern hospitality. Now the menu is as Mississippi as you're gonna get. With fried bologna sandwich's to the chopped sausage sandwich, to the pig ear sliders. Yup pig ears. They also have delta tamales. I'm adventurous so I ordered 1 "ears" and people in line were like "oh man you gotta get at least five of 'em they small and you gonna love 'em". I'm adventurous but not like that lol. I said I'll give it a try and if they are that good I'm sure I'll be back. I talked with the locals while waiting on my "ears". Once I got my order I went to the car to give it a try. I was horrible lol the texture is not something I can't do. It's an acquired thing I'm told lol. But the rest of the food looked and smelled sooo good. The experience and the history of this place (look it up) is really worth a trip. I recommend going here if you're ever in Jackson and I recommend trying the "ears" but also get some tamales and a sausage sandwich
