The fact I accidentally found this place baffles me. This place is the best soul food I had in my life. The cafeteria style where you can pick and choose your dishes is awesome. This place is a gem!! I found it thanks to Yelp and surprisingly a lot of my local family and friends hadn't heard of it. It's a quaint little place on Boling with sufficient parking outside and seating outside. The staff were all extremely superb! That good ole southern hospitality at its best! I ordered the bbq ribs, Lima beans with okra, Mac n cheese, sweet tea, and cornbread. I also got a slice of pound cake at the recommendation of the customer in line behind me. EVERYTHING was perfectly prepared, seasoned, and finger licking! The sauce for the ribs was sweet and spicy like I prefer. The Lima beans and Mac n cheese were not overly salty and seasoned to perfection. The 5 flavor pound cake will have me back there on Monday for another slice. My total can to around $12 for everything I described and they don't skimp on the portions. Mama's has definitely taken the place of Gloria's in my heart!! Sure the ambience is lacking but the food makes up for it!!! It was a heck of a long line, it moved fast, and the customers were all people who looked like they knew what good food was. The server was so nice and then I noticed her face in a framed newspaper article. It's a family business. You could even see the family resemblance on the cashier's face lol. This spot was bangin! Were driving XC and had to stop in MS for southern eats. Buffet style and warm and welcoming staff. Outside the Jackson metro area but worth going out of the way, only 10 min from route 20. We got the smothered chicken and it is fingerlickin good. We were driving through Jackson headed to Memphis and found this restaurant on Yelp. After reading the first review we had to check it out!! It was awesome!! The service was great and Mama was awesome!! She takes pride in her food, service, and making you feel at home!! We had plenty of food and even had leftovers!! Our expectations was exceeded! I love this place. It is good food at a good price and a good "feel good" story. Mama is this black older lady that is as sweet as can be. Anyone that walks in here will be treated like one of her own. I do not care who you are. She is nice to everyone. I have seen it. So I do not care what color or gender or sexual orientation you have, go visit. Mama. I will not give this place five stars because it is pretty basic. But day in and day out basic is what we all want. It is awesome to see someone like this succeed and cut across racial and other lines. She cooks the food and serves herself with her two daughters. The place is dive, but clean... located in between the ghetto and an industrial area. Don't worry... you will be safe. When you first get there you may wonder if you should get out of the car, and the place looks pretty shabby from the outside. But soon you will see lots of people go in and out during luch time. That includes cops, construction and utility workers, black, white and everything in between. When you walk in you are staring at the food in a cafeteria style set up with the girls serving. Then Mama and the register are to the right. Ample seating to the left. Works pretty efficiently. The lunch includes mama's sweet tea which is pretty good. There is usually about 3 choices of entrees and another three of four choices of sides. The entrees change from day to day. Sometimes the food can be a bit greasy, specially when its ribs or pork. But it is all good. The fried chicken is delicious. I love the greens...yummy. And if you want something extra, Mama makes at least a pie every day and her pecan pie is nothing to sneer at. For under ten dollars you will eat enough to satisfy the hungriest. Everytime I pass through Jackson I make it a point to eat here at least once. By the way, I am talking lunch here... they may not open for dinner. I will find out more next time I go and post the changes. I might even take pictures if I remember to do so.... read more

This restaurant was worth 10 stars! We visited late and they brought the food back out to accommodate us. Everything on the menu was homemade and melt in your mouth AMAZING! We tried the pork chops, grilled chicken and ribs. All three of the meats were fall off the bone, melt in your mouth, juicy. The sweet potatoes were the best sweet potatoes we had ever had in our lives! The restaurant was family run and all of the ladies were beyond friendly and overly excited to hear about our travels coming from Kansas City. OMG!!!! Let me explain... Everytime I visit Jackson, I always pass by this little restaurant "Mama Eats-N-Sweets sitting on the corner. So I decided to throw myself a birthday party in Jackson. My food theme was home style cooking. So naturally for a birthday cake I wanted something homemade. Mama Rachel made me a 4 layer German Chocolate and a 6 flavor Pound Cake. My friends from Chicago was cutting my cakes In hunks. Not to mention my cakes was the talk of the whole party, and it wasn't ME sitting in a dunking tank waiting to be dunked. Ms. Rachel served me both cakes fresh and hot not refrigerated like WALMART. The people there was just as friendly as ever. Something that some businesses lack here in Illinois. It is places like this that make Mississippi eating the best. I had rib tips, butter beans, and green beans and all tasted like Mama's.... hence the name!
