After going to the always-convenient Lowes/Home Depot to find a replacement for some cabinet hardware, I left frustrated as both stores never had someone around to assist or when there was someone, they would just point me to the aisle number and assume I could figure it out from there. My frustration led me to research what other comparable places that could help service my need and I ended up at Elliott's Hardware for the first time. I've always heard great things about this place from friends and colleagues but never been in one. Now, I realize why people choose this place. It's because the employees love to help their customers and know how to get you the answer the quickest way possible. It took me about an hour between Lowes/Home Depot to try and figure out if any of their hardware matched or would align with my current setting. Most of the products looked very cheap and dainty. But at Elliott's, I just show the guy what I was needing with my old broken piece and he quickly walked to me to the hardware counter and provided me with the EXACT hardware within 5 minutes. A nice solid, new piece of hardware for my cabinet. My life is now complete knowing Elliott's Hardware can help ease my mind about finding home repair solutions when in need. When you need something for your home or yard this is the place to go. I usually don't go here first if it's for a common item but if it's for something unusual or specialized or nuts and bolts, this is the place that has the biggest selection. I've never had a bad experience. There is always someone available to give expert advise, whether for hardware, paint, cleaning supplies,electrical, or any other thing in the store. read more

I tend to go to the big box/Home Depot/Lowe's compare 7 different kinds of drills or 5 different lawnmowers. If I need an odd sized or odd quantity of bolts, nuts, screws, or other strange "thing" that I can't identify, or if I need to get something quick to keep a project going, I visit Elliott's. (It's very close to me, thank goodness). Generally I'm helped very quickly and with a very friendly attitude. There is one long time employee that I recognize as being stand-offish or even grumpy, so I just avoid him. Prices can be higher for some items, but just try to go to another store and buy only 3 screws. My only wish is that they still carried the Dept 56 Christmas line. When they moved to the new location they didn't have room. That used to be a go-to during the holidays when we were stuck for a gift. read more

Went into Elliot's today to get bearings. An older employee with shoulder length gray hair and glasses wearing a cap asked if I needed help. Me, "Yes, I'm looking for bearings." Employee, "Ball or %@#?" (I didn't hear the second option.) Me, "Probably ball" Employee, "You don't know?" Me, "I'm going to use a bunch of them to break up rust from the inside of a fuel tank." He then takes me over to the ball bearings and shows me the options. At .70 each, I thought I could find a cheaper solution. I said to the man that I might try a box of small screws instead as it would be cheaper. He stepped over to an area of screws, pulled out and pushed in a few bins of screws quickly while mumbling something about boxes in a confusingly irritated and condescending tone. By the time I stepped over close enough to see inside the bins he was flinging open and shut, he was done and started to walk off. I asked him were I could find boxes of screws because I had not see them at the back of the bins he had been slinging in and out. Now I'm not a sensitive person by anyone's measure, but the "I'm talking to an idiot child" tone he took with me as he pulled out a bin and said, "Uh, right here in the back" lacked any subtly or confusion. Not sure what set him off. I can't imagine I'm the most clueless customer one might find in a hardware store, but even if I am, it doesn't warrant that kind of attitude. So I didn't have a solid idea of what I was looking for, I guess that's why they employ people like him. After he left, I thought about the interaction for a moment in front of the screws and decided I could get this kind of surly attitude at Home Depot for less cost and it's closer to my house. Ridiculously over-priced and over rated, 90% of what Elliot's Hardware sales can be purchased at Home Depot, Lowes and Walmart for a fraction of what Elliott's charge. Customer service is pathetic at best. Save your money and time and go to one of the big box hardware/lumber yard. read more

This is a nice hardware store, but they simply do not compete on pricing most of the time. I hate to say it, but most of the time I just window shop when I am in the neighborhood. I could not be happier with Elliott's Hardware. It is my goto place for any uncommon screws, bits etc. I needed 5 and 3 mm drill bits for a project and could not find them anywhere other than some expensive sets on Amazon. I called and asked if they had it and they checked their stock while I was on the phone. 20 min later and I had my bits. Since then I have been back twice and could not be happier. We needed a replacement sprayer head for a kitchen faucet and because of the cost of the replacement part, Elliot's Hardware made the warranty process as difficult as possible. Rather than speak with the manufacturer regarding warranty process and paperwork needed, I (the customer) was asked to be the mediator between the two parties. In one days time, I made no less than 6 calls between the two. Finally after weeks of wasted water and endless calls/emails, the distributor stepped up to expedite the replacement order. Be careful purchasing high end fixtures at Elliot's Hardware in Plano. The battle for Elliot's to honor a lifetime warrantied high end fixture was unreal. read more

They have everything here that you might not find at a Home Depot or Lowes. Have every kind of screw, nut, washer, etc. If you cannot find it here it is probably not made. Also can actually find someone to help you here unlike most of the box home improvement stores. The employees know how to treat their customers. read more

This review is for the Fairview store. I've spent the last 2 days going from various Home Depot's and/or Lowe's. I stripped the bolts to my beautiful bed and moved 2days ago. Brought the bolts with me but they couldn't/wouldn't help me. Then I remembered Elliott's in Fairview. Archie in the hardware department figured out what I need in less than 10 minutes. So grateful to him and he is so friendly and sweet. I'm done doing business with the big box stores and will return to this location for future business. read more

Advice here can be hit or miss but they definitely try to be as helpful as possible. Selections isn't as diverse as HD or Lowe's but I love the whole neighborhood hardware store feel. They've been sending me $10 gift card each year in December for my bday which is perfect for buying stocking stuffers. read more

After being directed to the Plano location by the Oak Lawn folks on a wild goose chase, and after finding out they conveniently closed at 6pm (guess I should take a vacation day to visit a hardware store??), I called ahead and described exactly what I needed, exactly what I did NOT want, and went through a litany of requirements over the phone as to have the items ready so the wifey could pick them up. I was impressed. The guy on the other end of the line acted like he knew exactly what I was talking about and very happily helped me w/ my conundrum. One problem. When wifey got home, he gave her the exact OPPOSITE of what I asked for. Everything I told him NOT to do, he did. Everything I said to NOT include, he threw in. Again, I know I'm supposed to support Mr Little Guy, but Mr Little Guy better start hiring people that can read/write. So again, back to Home Depot. read more

I went in to replace an antique doorknob that I thought I would have to special order. When they didn't have the right parts, they wrote down all the information for me (including the employee's name at the other location) so I could pick it up myself during the week. Later, when I had to go back because I was still missing the right latch, the employee dug through drawers of miscellaneous parts until he finally found me something that would work. The employees are knowledgeable and extremely helpful, but every time I went I got redirected a bunch of times until they decided on exactly the right expert. Lucky for me my experience with Elliott's Hardware was short lived. I value the input of other customers and compare it to my own experience. I called the Plano store and the first time the phone just rang and rang so I tried the Mesquite store and the call was answered. I was transferred to the department that would be able to assist me. The person assisting me seemed to have really put forth effort to find my answer and came back with..."I'm sorry we do not carry this product" I said thank you and disconnected the call. Not to give up, I tried calling the Plano store again. The person answering put me on hold for about 2 minutes and came back and actually said ooops sorry, I forgot about you and transferred me to the department that could assist me. I proceeded to ask if they carry the product I needed as I was simply comparing prices between Lowe's, Home Depot and now Elliott's. He was quick to say no they did not. So, I asked if they could some how acquire this products. He said no, they do not do that. While I continue to make my request he insisted to stick with his answer. Instead of escalating this issue, I came to my own conclusion... DON'T BELIEVE THEIR CORE VALUE or MOTTO: If you need it, we'll probably have it. If not, we'll get it for you and the next customer. Needed to fix my outdoor faucet. Took the parts to the store and the guy told me what I had to replace. When he didn't have the individual part in stock he cannibalized a kit to get the part. The parts were very reasonably priced and the faucet was fixed successfully. Wish they had a store closer to me, I would go there instead of to Lowe's or Home Depot. read more

While I agree for convenience and specialized stock, it is hard to beat Elliott's. They get a BIG Thumbs Down on Customer Service and attitude. While waiting (I I mean waiting in line (10:00 am week day) the cashier (ONLY 1), answers the phone while checking out customer (and I don't mean and occasional call, she is the switch board), never mind there are several people in line waiting on her. When I finally got to her, I suggested it was RUDE to make people wait on her to answer the phone while in line. She PROTESTED back, not her fault, Elliot's is aware and don't care. She suggested I tell the manager, I said o.k. and waited several minutes but he never came to the front! Maybe next time, if in line, call Elliot's, when the call is answered, as them to HOLD - you might reduce your wait in line by 2/3! read more

Elliot's use to be the place you went to get a odd item immediately when you needed it fast. Since they stopped having the unique stuff such as table extenders on site plumbing parts and sinks and faucets they have gone downhill. They are loser g so much money now to Home Depot and Lowes that they actually had to move across the street to a smaller store. The unique stuff is what kept them in buisiness. It won't be long now before they fold up and disappear. Too bad. read more

Love Elliot's. You get what you pay for. They carry Benjamin Moore paint, my favorite paint, so I'm in there too often. They carry higher end everything, like a Neiman's for hardware stores. Most of the time I just look and don't buy. It's a great store. read more

I have made several purchases that either had to be ordered or delivered. With each purchase, "promised delivery dates and times" were missed. Each time I was promised a follow up phone call to provide an update, never happened. As a customer I feel that I have to raise a red flag to tell them that there is a problem It appears they have no internal tracking or follow up process's to enhance the customer experience. Hearing sorry vs. "this is what we can for you" is the only thing they do when challenged with a service situation. If you are looking for a customer service experience that will not only wow you and motivate you to return, don't shop here. read more

I thought Elliott's was famous for excellent customer service, but I've just had my third bad experience there. On the recommendation of Home Depot I took a screen in to be repaired on December 11, paid for the repair, and was told by the clerk that it would be ready "Thursday", but not to come get it until they called me. Two Thursdays passed with no phone call. On December 30 I called them and was told the screen was ready. When I went in to pick it up I had to hunt down a clerk to get my screen. He asked if they had called me. I told him I had called them. The screen was repaired as needed, but every time I go to Elliott's I have trouble finding someone to help me and am treated as if I have interrupted something far more important than waiting on a customer. read more

Elliotts is unique now, it is like hardware stores used to be. If you happen to be looking for a 1"x2.18" left-hand threaded doohickey with a thermocouple flange, you'll probably find it at Elliotts - you WILL NOT find it at Lowes or Home Depot (even if they stock it). Some would call me a cantankerous old fa*t (which I'll admit to) but when I need something fixed, I only want to make one trip for parts and feel confident that I can finish the job RIGHT. As many have said, good luck finding help at the big box stores - even less luck finding someone who knows anything past the time their shift ends. I have had mostly excellent results with Elliotts. With an occasional exception, I've talked with an ex-electrician, an ex-plumber, etc. in other words, someone who has been there and done that. They've been extremely helpful in spelling out exactly (sometimes in minute detail) what I must do and how I must do it. They've helped this old handyman complete a lot of fixes for which I wasn't qualified. I do appreciate them. They may not be perfect, but compared to their "competition," they stand out. read more

I worked at Elliott's Hardware for 1 1/2 years. I started there when i was 15 and I absolutely loved it there. Elliott's is like a family and everyone is there for each other. I have remained friends with a lot of the people I worked with and still visit. If you ever go in and co-workers are chatting, just ask them a question because they would love to help you! You need help finding nuts and bolts? Just ask the guy in Fasteners! And on Saturday come in for some bbq around 12. It's been awhile since I've been to Elliott's Hardware, but I decided to surprise my husband today and buy a Big Green Egg for him for his birthday. We arrived about 30 minutes before they were going to close and when they were helping us load it in my SUV, we quickly realized that it was not going to fit in it. One of the guys (Joe) who worked there actually offered to load it in his truck and follow us to our house and help us unload it. Talk about customer service at its finest!!! He ended up leaving our house 30 - 45 minutes after he was supposed to get off of work...but went the extra mile to make sure we had an awesome customer experience!! He and Allen (another employee) told us everything we needed to know about the product. In fact, after we got home, we were watching videos about how to use the Big Green Egg and everything that was said in the video is exactly what they told us.
