You can buy hardware lots of places. Ace has people with experience which is priceless. Buster is one of those people. I was trying to fix my "mini-mule" cable come-along for the second time so it would last this time The cable was frayed and dangerous and I wanted the cable end safe and together. He gave me advice and even used his in-store chain/cable cutter to finish my cable end. He gave a solution to prevent fraying in the future with a cable crimp. While I was at it I bought a couple of other tools. You can probably buy hardware at a slightly lower price but the advice and the service to find exactly what you need provides the value that is the total package. Great hardware store. I thought for years why would people go to this little store that often cost a little more when they can go to the giant super stores and save a few bucks. BECAUSE ITS BETTER. Now after a couple decades of going to the big stores and shockingly ending up at Ace for what I need .. I now start at Ace .. and go somewhere else if needed. They just have more of the precise things I'm looking for and most often they greet me when I walk through the door .. McGyver!! Yes because the salespeople recognize me ... they don't have 100 full time employees and 200 part time employees... they do generally have the same knowledgeable folks that I see each time I come in. .... I've always wondered why people go into those big impersonal mega stores when they're Ace Hardware in most neighborhoods. read more

I went in for wasps spray and Dave gave me so much information ~ really ~ what a treat for all the info and kindness. I also purchased some sticky pads for mice/rats . The wasps spray was perfect for very high ceilings and knocked them out quickly. Loving the Citrus Magic dish soap they gave me ~ really works well. Ace Hardware never ceases to amaze me! Today I went in to purchase the correct size screw driver. Dave found the correct one! Every time I go there, they could not be more accommodating. Today Dave helped me to get the right size screwdriver. I had a very pleasant conversation with the head cashier, Eileen. I'm not sure I spelled her name correctly. New Ace location! I was excited to see the big red Ace sign in this hit-or-miss old shopping center. Next door to Aldi, this new Ace is where the old Kroger was... which shut down close to 10 years ago now. This space has been awaiting a new tenant for a long time! Since it used to be a Kroger, the space is quite large - larger than many Ace locations. Westlake has done well with their Ace stores, and this is no exception. It's not as cheap as Lowe's or Home Depot big box stores, but they have hard-to-find items and service is almost always better. And I prefer to support local business - or at least a smaller chain. (Westlake owns multiple Ace locations, but they're no where near as big as Lowe's or Home Depot.) Being new, the store is still shiny and perfect - really nice. They do a good job at keeping their older stores looking good, too, but this one is truly brand new (about 3-months old). Not much to add, really. It's a well stocked hardware store with lots of goodies for Christmas and gift ideas. They cover the usual hardware bases. In some areas, Ace doesn't have the selection Lowe's does. In other areas, they carry the hard-to-find odd items that Lowe's doesn't carry. They do NOT carry appliances - that's one of the obvious things that sets them apart from a big box store. The parking lot is huge, so no issues there. And there are restaurants nearby (as well as Aldi), so you could knock out multiple stops in this shopping strip with the addition of this Ace. read more

I'm very disappointed in Westlake policy. I downloaded their app and received a 5 dollar coupon. I purchased 3 items. They applied the $5. Over the 3 items. I had to return one item and asked about the partial discount. Without hesitation they said you loose it. Now what they could have done is give me the discount in cash. Or apply the discount to the remaining items. I realize this is a small amount, but over time and thousands of patrons it will add up. Actually this violates TEXAS consumer protection act called 3rd party deceptive Trade Practices Act. I may let them know. read more

I was under the impression that Ace Hardware's policy was giving great customer service. You know, "Ace is the place with the helpful Hardware folks." Makes sense since they are much smaller than the big box stores so they can't provide as much selection. And since their prices are not very competitive. They need some edge to give people a reason to shop there. That's why I was surprised to be treated in such a condescending manner today. I bought a grill as a belated Christmas gift for my mom and her husband. They are older and needed a simple grill for their small patio. I found the ideal grill on line and saw that we could pick it up at Ace Hardware in Carrollton. We went to pick it up after finding out that it was ready. I finished the transaction, bought a cover and a propane tank. The "helpful hardware man" thought it would 'probably fit' into the back of our SUV. He asked for the assistance of my step-father and as they lifted it the lid flew back and pinched my step-fathers hand really badly. He could not speak for a couple of minutes and it looked pretty nasty and was bleeding. I ran to get some ice from next door. Long, long story short, I was assured that the grill would be delivered the following day. No one ever called the next day. The manager/owner, Billie was made aware of the situation so I thought I would hear something! I had to phone them and they cannot tell me WHEN it will be delivered. I am extremely disappointed with this whole experience. If I do not get a call on Wednesday March 4 I am just going to go there and return everything! read more

As we walked out my husband told him to be nice to his customers, to which he responded there was a communication problem. What a refreshing change to find this real Hardware store. Westlake Ace is just like hardware stores used to be years ago, where customer service is their number one goal. When you walk in the door, you are greeted and asked if you need help. If by chance they don't know what you are looking for, they immediately find someone with the answers you need. The big box stores just can't offer that type of service. While it may be a bit more expensive then the big box stores, knowing someone can help you with whatever your project is, is great service. Very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable employees who are there for the long-term, not just working a temporary gig. Their prices are great, they have a good rewards program, and returns are easy. Wow, looks can be deceiving. This store is definitely on the top of Ace locations. Their is Jabo ace less than a mile away and customer service is so horrible I hate going in. The 9 min drive is well worth the knowledge and great treatment I was given and witnessed others given. When I called to verify their location, the phone was answered immediately! Also, the lady on the phone was very nice and got me right to James who delivered absolute outstanding customer service. He stopped what we was doing as soon as I arrived and found him. He greeted me with a "hello sir" and a firm handshake. He listened to my issue, asked questions and then delivered his advice. He was very upbeat, friendly, positive, and informative instead of eye watching and looking as if he was ready to leave. He went above and beyond to ensure that the product I needed would work and that I had all the knowledge I needed. 5 stars all day. I would definitely recommend west lakes Ace over Jabos ace hardware. You can definitely tell this store has a winning mentality. I commend management and ownership for creating a great work atmosphere that reflects on their employees and off to customers!! This store introduced me to the top quality customer service at Ace Hardware in general, and I've since also had a great experience at the Coppell location. I like Home Depot a lot and my local Home Depot is only a few minutes from my house, but the personal touch Ace has and the friendliness of the employees makes me willing to drive a little ways if I'm going for more than just something quick I'm grabbing on the way home. It would be great if they just told you the credit card machine is not working when you walk in, so you don't have to spend a half hour shopping and then get to the front to be told that you're screwed. I like the customer service. Technology sometimes sucks so since its not their fault for that, its the merchant CC machine provider and they can be totally lame. However, its 2017, Merchants need to offer more ways to pay, such as a square or PayPal swipper to take care of customers when the main machine dies. Internet still on, billions of $ still getting exchanged. But not at this store at that time. read more

This review is beyond overdue! I do not have the words to express the customer service that is projected the minute you walk through the door to ordering online for pick up. I first went to the store to pick up tables ... I couldn't even make 4 steps through the door before someone greeted me and then and another person came and asked me if I needed help finding something! Already know what I wanted and didn't have enough on the floor, they went to the back and in 10 -15 min help me load my car! Now this is your neighborhood hardware store! Now my next experience and this is beyond top notch and unbelievable how the team at ace is the best! They truly care for their customers. Day before thanksgiving I placed an order for a large amount of chairs as we were hosting but knowing stores were going to be closed and I would have to pick up when they were open. I actually got a call from an associate thanksgiving day to let me know I wasn't able to pick up and the store was closed. But thheeeen I got a call 1/2 hour later not knowing it was a manager and I had expressed someone had already contacted me and the earliest I could pick up would be the next day. To my utter surprise she said ... no you can pick them up TODAY! The store is closed but she would open it for me since I was hosting and she lives close by and it would me no problem. Who does this? Who goes above and beyond on a holiday to have another family enjoy comfortably and peace of mind their guests will be taken care of with chairs??? This store does and their management went above and beyond for me! For chairs?! Unbelievable and amazing!!!! I would give them 10+ stars considering I rarely go to the hardware store... they have me sold as hands down the best! read more
