This is the place you need for every nut, bolt, snap ring and obscure pluming/electrical part. Once again Elliot's saved me from buying a whole new appliance by having the right parts! In this case it's a $500 Dewalt Mitre saw. The grey haired guys (like me) that know what they are doing had a better Irwin screw extractor than Home Depot's Ryobi enabling me to get the broken bolt out and salvage a gear for the saw that Dewalt no longer makes. It's a local hardware store "mini chain" -- 5 locations around Dallas I think. The Plano store is at a new location, it's very neat, ran, bright and airy. They have Benjamin Moore paint, which is what brought me in. Service is very friendly, and I've had two custom color mixes that went off perfectly. Elliot's hardware is also open later than the other Benjamin Moore places in the area, which lets me stop in after work. I have been in the neighborhood for over 20 years and have watched the demise of the ""local" hardware store, Elliotts is next! For the last 2 years: lack of knowledge, professionalism and ambition to help here is in the toilet- they never have what you need ( terribly low stock), outages, and nobody there knows half of what they think they do- they freely tell customers " not really sure" or " maybe go to this specialty house" etc. -- just LAZY. Front of house changes weekly and everyone just working a "job", zero pride- . On a recent visit, 3 guys tried to help me - I ended up going straight to Home Depot and in five minutes, I found the part I was looking for and resolved my issue (after going back three times to Elliott). I exclaimed that I am done going back here, and my wife laughed and said You say that every time you go there-- well, Im done with lazy locals and Elliotts. I called ahead to confirm they had an item in a quart in stock. They said yes, for $15. After driving an hour, they did not not have it in quarts they had it in pints. I asked the manager to sell me two of them for the price of the quart ($18). I didn't even ask him to honor the price he gave on the phone. He said no, and that $20 was the best he could do. Do not trust this store, they bait and switch and do not do what they will say they will. Terrible customer service. They do not care about what is fair. read more

Hello, About 2 months ago I complained about a rude clerk at the Plano store ostensibly to David Garcia the manager. I never got a reply so I assume that he thinks that's not important. When I asked the clerk who the mana- ger was she gladly gave me his name, probably knowing he wouldn't care. I see there is someone else with a similar complaint--of course my complaint was only about one young lady, his about the general tone of the clerks. A wallpaper brush, seems like an easy request right? Well, Lowes and Home Depot no longer carry any wallpaper supplies. Not only do they not carry wall paper- the only item they have to help you apply paper- is the paste. No one at either place even knew what I was talking about when I asked about brushes. They simply do not carry them. Next time- I will start and end with Elliot's! They has all the supplies, in a logical place, so I didn't even have to ask for help. read more

This your classic all American hardware store. Beats hands down Lowe's and Home Depot at not getting lost and people know what you need. Love that a ton of seniors citizens are employed, they have plenty of experience to do your home project easier. What you don't find here, is has not been made yet. I wish there was a closer Elliott's Hardware to me. Driving all the way out here to get to a hardware store stinks, but when it's the only hardware store near you, what can you do? It's a hardware store, but it's better. The people here are very helpful, even more so than the standard hardware store. They also go out of their way to help you out. It's pretty amazing because you don't get that kind of service like that anymore. They've moved from across the street and the new location seems to be bigger and a little better organized. Elliott's is a well-known institution in Dallas. I'm at the point now where if there's even a doubt about whether Home Depot or Lowe's will have said widget, I just save time and head to Elliott's...mostly because some teenager at one of these two big box hardware places will invariably say "Maybe you should check out Elliott's." So when I was revamping my well-loved cast iron smoker a couple of weeks ago that's where I went for all the bits and pieces I needed. I walked in thinking I knew what I wanted, but after talking to all of the very knowledgeable folks that work there, I walked out with better, more durable and cheaper solutions than I expected when I walked in. Now I have a re-purtyed grill with brass fixtures, new handles and a burnt orange rack. Being the food geek I am, this is also the place I go for all of my new cast iron cookware needs. I love me some Lodge cookware, and they have it at the right price. If you can't find it anywhere else, go to Elliott's. They may not have it, but I bet they can either get it or find you a solution without too much hassle. Extra points go to anyone who can make the older lady at the register crack a smile or laugh. I've been trying for years and have only managed a minor grin out of her. read more

Elliot's is a REAL Hardware Store. Lowe's and Home Depot are "Home Improvement" stores. That's what I was told by a clerk at Home Depot. If you have any doubt whether you'll find what you need at Lowe's or Home Depot, use your time to drive to Elliott's instead of wasting it wandering through a warehouse. Want to talk to someone who can help you with your problem? Go to Elliott's. Do you know what a lamp harp is? Do you know what a shoulder bolt is? The guys at Elliott's do!!! This place is an awesome hardware store. You only want to go here if you need to find something quickly and you don't have time to search high and low around this store. The best part of this store is that the store offers more high quality products that would be hard to find at a big box store. They offer the best paint (according to consumer reports Sept 2012), Benjamin Moore. Also, they have a large variety of higher end grills. They have a really large selection of weber grills, green egg and built in outdoor kitchen ranges. Strange part is that this hardware store has a post office inside of it! This store is well kept and nice. It's hard to find an independant (regional chain) hardware store nowadays. Really love this place. read more

All I can say is incredible! I just wasted 1 hour at Lowe's where no one was around to answer my questions and even after I went to ask someone for help 2 people 2 different times no one came. So I decided not to waste anymore time and instead run over to Eliot's and the experience was completely different. I walked in and a matter of seconds a friendly staff member by the name of Wayne walked up to me and asked if they could help, and with in 4 min I was checking out! We came here on a Saturday looking for a patio door part that Lowe's, Home Depot, and Ace didn't have. We found it but only found one (needed two) and it was discontinued. We weren't able to get further help so we'll be buying off the internet, I guess. Despite the other reviews, we had to actively track down help, and we noticed other people with the same problem. I understand that it was a Saturday but they weren't that crowded. So it took us a long time to find out they didn't have more of the part we needed and that they couldn't order it because it wasn't even in their system despite the presence of a shelf tag (supposedly the manufacturer's part numbers changed, and they seemed unwilling to help further) While I was waiting for my husband to find the help he needed, I wandered around to find that in the categories of home improvement I am currently interested in, they had a poor selection and I was shocked at the amount of items on the shelves that were out of stock. In short, I didn't experience the five star experience of the other reviews and with the lack of selection of merchandise, I don't think that I'm going to make this a regular trip. They do have some hard-to-find door hardware, large tools and organic gardening supplies, but overall I wasn't terribly impressed. They only get 3 stars for this trip because I did actually find one of the parts I needed. read more

A mixed bag. My experience varies at this store. I'm either feeling so glad that I shopped there and got a great find and great advice, or I feel like I was ignored by the staff. The old timers working in there are great. They really want to help you and share their experience. The middle-aged guys in there are grumpy and act like its a privilege for you to shop there and wish that you'd hurry and make your decision so they can get back to whatever it is that was so important before you interrupted them. That's why I give this place 3 stars. Sometimes a great experience, and sometimes I feel like I just entered a 1970's post office with sorry customer service. Home Depot has much better customer service overall in my opinion. You can tell that they are trained and encouraged to help you. Problem with Home Depot is everything they stock is made in China and is total junk. At least at Elliot's you can find high quality parts for your project. Needed paint for the next morning (contractor to be there at 8am) and had been to one store that closed as we stood there waited to be waited on. Called Elliott's and they mixed the paint and had it ready, although it was past closing time. I paid by credit card on the phone, and the manager waited, knowing we were driving from north Allen. I am no handyman, and I know very little about hardware. What I do know is that when my boss for whatever reason needed 12 inch eyebolts with a 3/4 inch eyelet diameter, I had a lot of trouble finding them, until I found Elliot's. When you go in this place it's apparent that it's a no-frills, all business hardware store, odds are if you need something they are going to have it. Staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I went in one afternoon to get my car key copied. After going to the 'key desk', I waited about ten minutes before someone became available to help out. There may have been 6 other customers in the store. I made my request, and after a couple grunts and no eye-contact from the "Key guy" ( called this by another employee who called him for me ), he got to work. We went out to the lot with some device needed to check programming of the key, came back into the store, did some more to the key, came back to the lot again, and it did not work. We repeated this process again, taking about 40 minutes. The last time, Key Guy did look at me and said, "this'll do it, you can check out up front". Well the key still didn't work. I'm thankful that my full refund was not problematic, but am still disappointed that I lost so much time and still didn't get a key. read more

Elliott's is the place to go when you can't find what you're looking for at Lowe's or Home Depot. I consider them more of a specialty store, which may be doing them a disservice. Nonetheless, they often carry hard to find items and odds and ends that you probably won't find at Lowe's or Home Depot. I like the older guys who work at the store. They are very friendly and incredibly knowledgeable, and they make you feel like they are genuinely happy to have you in the store, unlike some of the employees at Lowe's/Home Depot, who, once you finally track them down, act like they are doing you a favor by helping you. Even thought they don't have an extensive inventory, they always seem to have the right tool or part needed to complete the job. My only negative jab is that you might just run in to that one grumpy old sales associate. We have both had run ins with that one guy that should not be involved with the general public. I would like to give a huge shoutout to Ronald Whitehead at Elliotts Hardware on Coit Road. He went above and beyond the call of duty for us not once but twice. We were remodeling our house and I needed hardware for bathrooms, kitchen, doors, etc... He gave us his advice on what goes together and he knows all the different lines backwards and forwards and what matches with what. I went to the store to place my order on a day Ronald wasn't there and nobody was available to help or knew anything about the hardware department so I asked the manager to please text Ronald and let him know we were ready to order. He came in on his day off just to place the order so we could make sure it was right. Then, when my order came in, it went to the wrong store but Ronald went all the way to Garland, again on his day off, and picked up the order and keyed all the keys and texted me to come pick up. He has gone above and beyond his job description and he should get a promotion, a raise and a lot of praise from the management team at Elliotts. The best thing about Elliott's is their fastener section. If your missing a nut for a bolt, you can bring the bolt in and fit it to the right nut. Then you can buy as many as you need of it. In the national chains all the fasteners are in packages and you're stuck buying a dozen of whatever you need. It's very handy living close to the Elliott's in Plano read more

Business must be amazing because judging by their extreme lack of customer service, they clearly do not want or need my business. I was so disappointed in the level of customer service here! I waited for 10 minutes and finally had to walk up front to find someone to help me. The cashier told me who to look for in the Plumbing department, but he was very involved with another customer. I had my toddler with me and really needed to get what I needed and leave, as he was getting restless! I stood and waited for another 15 minutes and was not even acknowledged. I finally went back up to the front (my little guy was ready to leave!) and asked for the manager. The manager wanted nothing to do with me, and but he did end up helping me. He did so with an obvious grumbling attitude. The whole experience was horrible! I'm already self-conscious with walking into a hardware store, as this is not in my wheelhouse, and then to be treated like a bother was equally awful. I will never step foot in this store again and I will be advising all the moms in my circle not to either. read more
