My experience over the years with Harbor Freight tools is you have to go through a learning curve to shop there. Fortunately,it's not too expensive but... For example,one that stands out was my need for certain types of wood boring drill bits. I purchased a set that ended up so dull they wouldn't cut through wet cardboard. However,that didn't discourage me from using them as a valuable resource. Recently I was taking down a new pool filter that I'd never cleaned before. The drain was a large 4" PVC cap that I had nothing in the tool box that would open it . Initially I headed for Home Depot when it occured to me,Harbor Freight may have a more cost effective solution. Bingo! Not only did the " oil filter" wrench for $9.99 do the trick but,it was invaluable when I reassembled the filter housing and needed a certain leverage on the clamp. This gives me confidence that if you shop smart with an idea of the outcome you need, Harbor Freight is likely to have a low priced solution. read more

We bought a generator for around $800, and did not bought extended warranty just because we trusted the store and the product. Big mistake it was... When we call them up, they refuse to do anything about it because 90 days has been past. I wouldn't buy any generator or anything valuable from Harbor Freight ever again. Their product is not high quality and broken down only after 4 months. Expect to be ignored after 90 days or your warranty has been expired and you left alone with an expensive piece of junk. read more

Harbor Freight: I tried to return a gift that did not work and they refused to exchange it without a receipt. The manager and sales associate both suggested that I ask the person who gave it to me to provide the receipt. I could not believe they would ask me to do that. This was the return of a small flashlight that looked like a lantern. I was returning it within 6 days from Christmas. I was not asking for cash, just a simple exchange. Buyer beware: RESTOCKING fee (for defective product). For the most part I like Harbor Freight. They have a wide variety of affordable tools (the only reason I am giving a 2 star). Not everything is good but using your judgement, you can find good and cheap stuff there. This company needs a lot of improvement when it comes to customer service. You seldom find people when help is needed, and when you do, it is not very friendly. Of course there are good and bad employees anywhere and there are good people there too but in general customer service is deficient. Coming back to restocking fee, I returned a defective product today and just noticed later they charged 80 cents restocking fee. I didn't get upset about the value but about the principle. How can you charge a customer such a fee for returning a useless product the sold? The cashier put the reason for returning as "not satisfied" so he could charge the fee. His badge say "supervisor ", so he should known better that the correct reason for return was "defective product" (and I clearly told him) and the customer is at no fault whatsoever and shouldn't be penalized. This really hurts their reputation as far as I am concerned and I am deeply disappointed. So consider this and refuse this fee if you are returning a defective product. Consumers are only strong when they stick together and demand honesty from companies with this kind of practice. read more

I'm surprised there aren't more reviews here, given the number of people who shop here. It's a great kid-in-the-candy store for all peoples mechanically/engineering/DIY-inclined. I love how the prices here are often 1/3 that of the same or similar products sold at Lowes or Home Depot. Note that this isn't really the place for hardware, but it's a great go-to for budget friendly DIY tools. You should sign up for their emails or pay attention to the local ads. They almost always of 20% off one item coupons, along with various freebie items with any purchase. Highly recommend. read more

Harbor Freight has some amazing prices, no doubt about that. When prices are so low you need to be extra cautious regarding quality, but sometimes the average DIYer doesn't need the industry's state of the art tool to get a job completed and when that is the case you should shop Harbor Freight. The best thing about this place is the coupons. Monitor the coupons and the parking lot sales and you will get some great deals. This specific store in McKinney has great customer service. The cashier on 3/3/18 assisted me with the coupons to get the best prices and made me want to come back to keep benefiting from the great deals. As always, try to look up the product first and see if there are any reviews. But in general, you will be good buying most tools carried by Harbor Freight. I've shopped here periodically since they've opened and I love this place! Prices are amazing as is the customer service. We get coupons in the mail all the time for Harbour Freight and they always have good deals even though everything is already relatively inexpensive and so far I haven't noticed any lack of quality as compared to more expensive items sold at Lowe's or Home Depot. This was my first time in the store, and I went specifically for an item on sale for Black Friday. I got there and sadly, there was only one box left on the shelf (I was hoping for six). That's when DeAndre came to the rescue. He went to the back to look for more, offered a rain check, and eventually the manager also joined in the hunt. They persisted and were able to locate some more in the back. I believe customer service can make or break a business, and DeAndre was exceptional. It was a busy time, yet he never made me feel rushed or like helping me was an inconvenience. It would have been easier to just tell me there were none left and carry on.
