I've booked marked this place for a long time & finally got to try it couple of nights ago. Hubby & I came here for HH. I've read reviews that parking is hard to find but we got super lucky & found a spot right away. Place was empty when we walked in at 5pm but got busier as time flew by. Ambiance is small with limited seating but they got outdoor patio seating. Weather was warm outside so we sat indoors but it was pretty hot inside too with no AC. Thankfully, the food won us over. We started off with oysters, Peruvian scallops, & crab dip off the HH menu. I've had better oysters elsewhere but it was still fresh. Scallops were really good. Crab dip was solid & I really liked the soft texture of the milk bread. It paired well with the crab dip. From the main menu, we ordered the angel hair pasta & waygu tartare. These 2 dishes were my fav of the night. The pasta came with main lobster & shrimp. It was simply delicious & not filling. Noodles were cooked perfectly. The garlic & chili flakes added a nice flavor to the dish. The waygu tartare was so good. I was impressed with the sourdough bread turning out so soft & not hard to bite into. Service was cordial & attentive. There are many dishes I'd like to explore next time I'm here.
I came here for Oyster Hour (Tue-Thur 4-6, Sat-Sun 3-5) which had an amazing deal for $1.50 oysters and there were other happy hour dishes as well. It was a hot sunny day so we were hoping to sit inside with the AC, but unfortunately there were no AC or fans in the restaurant and the outdoor seats didn't have shade. The food was decent, but the overall experience was marred by how uncomfortably stuffy it was in the restaurant. Here's what we got: Brussel Sprouts ($11 during Oyster Hour) Absolutely delicious! The brussel sprouts had a beautiful char and a mix of sweet and savory flavors from the brown butter saba and sausage. Oysters ($1.50 each during Oyster Hour) Fresh, plump, and refreshing. Came with horseradish, mignonette, and cocktail sauce. Tagliatelle ($26) Ragu had a rich depth of wine flavor. The pasta had a good texture and tasted homemade. The portion size was small though. Chitarra ($29) The pasta was cooked well and had nice texture, but the chili made the sauce too spicy and overpowered the basil pesto. The portion size was small as well. All the Things Fries ($12 during Oyster Hour) Decent loaded fries, but nothing special. Overall, I would still go back for Oyster Hour to get oysters and try other happy hour dishes, but on a less hot day and sit outdoors.
5/5 for Oyster hour which was amazing! $1.5 versus the normal $5.5 is definitely worth it. 5/5 for Service from the entire staff. 5/5 for ambiance. We sat outside and it was great. Once it started getting dark, they turned the heaters on and had enough light for seeing your food and being with good company. 5/5 for the side of whipped butter and side of bread. -5/5 for the loaded fries. Don't get these unless you have money to burn. They were $12 during the happy hour and they had what looked and tasted like melted cheddar sliced cheese on top of their fries sprinkled with their sauce and some sesame seeds. This was the most disappointing thing we ordered. 3-4/5 for the remainder of the food. Pasta isn't as fresh as it should be for the price and most of the sauces were completely over salted. The side of crab dip although real crab meat, was a very small portion for happy hour. Not sure if it's differently portioned for normal hours. Brussels sprouts were delicious with their sausage. They should use this sausage in their pasta... if it happens to be the same then they need to cook it separate as the sausage in the pasta is a soggy mushy texture instead. All in all, We had a great time. Would definitely come here again for oyster hour!
Let me say this was a surprise , a good one. A small restaurant tucked along the neighborhood blocks from the beach. I've seen it a few times but never had the chance to try it out. It was on the list but something alway came up and we never made it. Well, we happened to walk by and was like what the heck. We're here let's try it out. It's a small restaurant with a nice cool clean beach vibe inside and a simple patio just outside with tables and heatlamps. We arrived just after happy hour which they're known as oyster hours. And let me say, the name explain itself. There were only three tables utilized when we arrived at the patio but by the time we ordered, it was completely full. People arriving minutes after each other and I'm sure it was for oyster hours. Self explanatory, oyster happy hours. For 1.50 a piece, that can't be beat. Pretty much every table had a dozen or so. Besides that, they also had a good happy hour menu on both drinks and meals. Also the regular dinner menu was quite impressive. A mixture of everything. But we were here for happy hours. House wines were 8.00 a glass and a dozen oysters were shared. They were quite tasty and served with horseradish and cocktails sauce. Simple eats but very delicious. We could have had more but we already had plans for dinner. Looking around, everyone had oysters on their table. The main attractions as it's known. Besides that, all the other dishes that were coming out all looked amazing. Fish and chips and their salads looked quite delicious. Service was excellent. The gentlemen that was taking care of everyone was excellent. Extremely friendly and professional as well as busy taking care of everybody. Just from this first visit, I must say it was great. Now I know what oyster hours is all about and finally nice to try it out. Next time, a meal. Highly recommend.
I've been to Ellie's many times and the food is always outstanding. Our family favorites are the bone marrow board and the Burrata with Parker rolls. My daughter especially loves all the fresh pasta and this is her request every year for her birthday. I love their little outside patio we've sat there in all kinds of weather and it's always been fine. As someone in our family is hard of hearing, sitting outside is much better as inside is very loud. Service is always a question mark for me here. There is nearly always some misstep. This time, despite our reservation, they did not have seating for us. They accommodated us by placing us on the side which was okay, but required some gymnastics to get in and out of seating. It also was impossible for servers to get around table. So that being said, we regularly go back. Food is worth it.
Did the 6-course prix fixe at Ellie's and it was honestly such a solid experience. Every course felt intentional and well-paced -- nothing felt like filler, which is rare with prix fixe menus. The potato croquettes were crispy and creamy with a bright herb sauce, and the salmon tartare was fresh, clean, and really well balanced with pistachio and herbs. The pasta course was rich and comforting without being too heavy. For mains, both options delivered -- the New York strip was cooked perfectly and paired nicely with the roasted vegetables, while the sea bass over hummus and chickpeas was lighter but still packed with flavor. Dessert was the perfect way to wrap things up. Huge shoutout to EJ -- his customer service was amazing. He explained how they do this prix fixe every Monday and also mentioned they offer brunch, which I didn't even know about. We also did the wine pairing he recommended, and it was a 10/10 -- every glass complemented the food perfectly. The music was great, the atmosphere was on point, and the only downfall is parking -- so come early or just Uber and save yourself the stress LOL. Other than that, everything was a win. Would absolutely do the prix fixe again.
We went here for date night on a Saturday and we had a good time. The place is very cute and although it was a little windy that night, we opted to sit outside and enjoy the cool breeze (the heaters helped though lol). We ordered a few items to share including the crab dip, Wagyu tartare, potato croquettes, and since they're known for their handmade pastas, we also ordered the gnocchi. Everything was tasty and the gnocchi was very good. We paired it with some wine and it was perfect. Street parking may be a little challenging but it's worth circling around and taking a short walk. Happy eating!
It's all about the pasta ... Came here for a date night, after making a reservation, and it was great. We ordered the Wagyu tartare, tagliatelle, and the short rib pasta. Tartare was a great start, being super flavorful with great texture. Tagliatelle was our favorite of the two pastas, with both pastas having nice chew, but the sauce of the tagliatelle was super flavorful, with a tad of spice and good. Short rib sauce was just real meaty, which is great for true carnivores like my boyfriend, just preferred the tagliatelle from a flavor dimension perspective. All the staff were efficient and swapping roles, which was cool to see. We will be back.
Ellie's has yet to disappoint! We came for brunch this time around and the food was just as memorable as the dinner service. Everything was delicious as per usual...the staff is friendly and helpful, the location is small and intimate but clean and airy. I'd happily come back any chance I get whether it's for brunch or dinner!
I was perusing new places to think of trying and stumbled across this place. Took my friends here to end the day with some bomb food and here's my thoughts. I love the aesthetics of this place, it's got a good balance between simple/homey and classy/modern. It reminds me of the small restaurant/cafes in SF where it's cozy but not too loud that it would be overly stimulating. We arrived nearing dinner time and ended up having to wait about 40 mins for our table to be ready. Here's the food: Oysters & Scallops on the half shell: The Scallops were fresh and delicious, but my nitpick might be trying to emphasize the freshness of the scallops more as the accoutrements seem to be the main star. It comes with a little bit of heat in the accoutrements but I don't think it's too bad that someone who has some spice tolerance can't handle. Normally you'd have to get 6 minimum, but since they ran out of oysters, they waived it. Baked Parmesan Cavatelli: I was looking for a simple dish to end the night as I wasn't feeling too peckish. The dish was the right choice. garlic confit permeated and infused itself into the sauce giving it a rich and in depth flavor. It would go great with some extra bread to change up the texture though, I feel slightly conflicted on the bread crumbs myself. The cavatelli was cooked to al dente. Bone-In Short Rib Agnolotti: Easily the highlight of the dishes that night. The short rib was cooked bone in for a couple of hours, when it had gotten to our table, it was practically falling off the bone! For the price, I think that it was definitely worth it! Angel Hair: My other friend asked for a custom order as she couldn't handle spice well, but we didn't realize it would take 20 - 30 minutes because the spice was infused into the sauce and they needed to make a batch specifically for her. Other than that, the angel hair came out amazing to my friend. I would say that with it being a seafood pasta, there wasn't that much clams and lobster in it. No pictures to back it up unfortunately. Garlic bread: This was comp'd by the manager because of the long wait we had with our pasta earlier. I loved the garlic bread. I'm not normally a bread person, but the bread here was divine, the bread was freshly made as the inside was still moist and accentuated with the crispy exterior, freshly grated parmesan, and olive oil They ran out of gnocchi when we went unfortunately as that was the dish I was most excited to get. Next time if I'm in the area, i'll have to give them another try. There's no parking at Ellie's itself, we had to resort to looking for street parking.
This place rocked in so many ways! The weather was perfect to sit outside and we got there just when it opened and people were already waiting. There was a very nice waiter handling the busy morning, it would have probably been best to have 2 on a Sunday brunch morning. We ordered several dishes and had it family style. Here is how they ranked Beet salad 5+ perfection Breakfast pasta 5 creamy goodness Hanger hash 5 steak & eggs cooked to perfection Side of bacon 3 fatty and a bit too salty Omelette -1 dry as a bone and not as luxurious as one would think with caviar and bousin cheese accompanying it. Great place but definitely avoid the omelette! Bummer

The ambience of the place is great. We were seated outside and it felt nice and romantic. Servers were very friendly and helpful. The dishes were both familiar but creative enough where I felt like it was the first time eating these dishes. All the pasta is fresh and made in house, so it lacks the "al dente" of dried pasta, but is softer and pairs well to the sauces Ellie's use. read more
The two stars was for the ambiance . We came here for Mothers Day based on a family's recommendation & reviews on social media.. While I consider myself a foodie, Italian is one of my favorite foods and so I came with high expectations of enjoying some authentic pasta. Now I don't compare Italian restaurants. It's just based on what you have on the menu and what's recommended by your servers.. we love Fish. In fact we wanted the whole fish. The server said oh you get the whole fish minus the bone which I thought was kind of interesting because how would you get the fish head which is a delicacy from where I come from? Anyway he said it was a snapper-14 ounces and we were quite excited to enjoy this fish. We also had ordered Angel Hair dish, a Caesar salad and of course bread. The salad came out & the dressing was very vinegary. I noticed a lot of arugula on our plate. Don't think there was any Romain lettuce so maybe it's a southern Italy thing but we enjoyed the salad little bit too much vinegar, but it was good next came the bread now . It looks like Hawaiian rolls that was grilled the butter and the red onion was delicious but it really tasted like Hawaiian sweet rolls We waited and we continue to wait and wait, while a couple next to us receives their food and we were jokingly asking each other well, I guess they had to go and catch the fish because our main course still hasn't arrived. To my disappointment, the angel hair dish had few mussels and a few pieces of clams. A lot of red sauce. I thought the server said it was supposed to be spicy, but it wasn't. Frankly it seemed the pasta had drowned in the sauce - couldn't really taste the pasta. And the fish still hadn't arrived. It had been an hour and 10 minutes into our meal. I called the server over to cancel the fish. My husband's patience had run out and even though it was a place that I wanted to enjoy that was not the case. If you're going to sell the story of the fish as it is a fresh Mediterranean snapper let's make sure it is what it is. I cannot vouch for the fish because it never came out o the kitchen. read more

Back at Ellie's and a 10/10 experience this time! Everything we ordered was delicious! Caesar salad, crab toast & 3 pastas, all were amazing. Our favorite was the crab roast & tagliatelle - so so good! Served was the pastry chef as well, she was very attentive & kind! read more
I wasn't very impressed with this place. The outdoor seating has no views. We got the burger and the spicy chicken sandwich. The burger was so salty and there was a lot of mustard and ketchup in it. The spicy chicken sandwich was a sweet chicken sandwich. Very strange. The service was just average. Maybe they had an off day. However I mainly go to places for the food over the service. Mag e I should have tried a pasta but know I will never know. read more

Ellie's is a hip restaurant that has some unique menu items. We were seated immediately and the service was great. The parking in this area is awful and brunch prices didn't reflect the portion sizes. The Benedict wasn't warm and the fish & chips looked like they belonged on a child's menu. :[ read more
Nice little Italian spot in Long Beach. Parking can be a hassle, with little space. Enjoyed the gnocchi and tagliatelle pasta. Cauliflower and brussel sprouts were really good. Potato balls were fine. Nothing special. Friendly service. Gave us extra plates to serve our birthday cake without a fee. Make reservations if dining in evening. read more
What a hidden gem in Long Beach! A cute corner spot towards DTLB with indoor and out door sitting area. They got heaters for outside patio area! Making a reservation is recommended for this place. We got there on time and we were sitting right away. Service was quick and this is a place where they take all food order at once - so you gotta make a plan! Food was absolutely fantastic, just as we expected reading about this place. We had: Sweet Potato: This dish was out of our imagination! Aioli with red onion, and garlic lemon - the flavors were so delicious. A must try! Crab Toast: Bread was toasted to its perfection and crab meat with pepperoncini and caviar on top made it all taste so good! For pasta, we had: Mafaldine: Vodka sauce was delicious, freshly made with fresh pasta. We did got the true taste of souther Italy in LBC. Recommend this dish. Agnolotti: That duck confit stuffed agnolotti- simply wow! I couldn't resist how delicious it was and end up eating the whole plate! This dish was prepared so well, all the taste of squash with mushroom and whipped ricotta paired so well, I highly recommend this dish! Over all, this place definitely hit the spot and we will be coming back to try other dishes! Highly recommend this place. read more
Cute little Italian spot! Parking was a toughie to find during Sunday dinner time. The oysters with caviar were a delight! Very fresh and tasty. The server mentioned that the dishes were fairly large, however I do recommend ordering an entree for each person. We ordered the tagiatelle & the cavatelli. Once the new lunch menu a.k.a. burger party was posted, I knew we had to get there quickly. Of course we were the first ones there the day it started. Friends had oysters and said they were amazing and they did it with the caviar. Their Caesar salad is perfection, and every note of texture that you want. Those onion rings though. Perfectly crisp and the addition of Calabrian chili just elevates them and makes them heavenly. I ordered the classic burger and fries truffle fries. Their truffle fries here are addictive. In the addition of amazing service delicious hot food, Chef is doing everything right and his team is on point. Already plotting our return. read more
I've been wanting to try Ellie's for a while and finally brought the girls out for brunch! Apparently their known for their dinner menu so we'll have to come back again soon to try it. I was surprised it wasn't busy on a Saturday - we practically had the place to ourselves. Service was great and the food was tasty. Our favorites were the breakfast pasta, bone marrow board, truffle fries and Cesar salad. We also ordered their everything fries, NY steak hash, and fried chicken sandwich. We personally thought the steak hash was too salty but overall the steak was nice and tender, which made up for it! If you're like us and you prefer to share plates, the portions are perfect. They have bottomless mimosas until 3:30PM, which of course, we took advantage of (and napped immediately after). I can't wait to try their dinner menu next time! read more

Hands down, the best brunch in Long Beach! Ellie's is a true gem. This was my second time visiting Ellie's--first with a friend, and this time with my husband. The vibe was great on both occasions, and the service was excellent. We started with a glass of wine and a beer, and for our appetizer, we had the carpaccio, which was absolutely amazing. My husband ordered the tagliatelle, and at first bite, it was nearly perfect. But as we continued eating, the black pepper became overwhelmingly strong. We both enjoy spicy food--habanero sauce is no problem for us--so it wasn't about heat. It was that the pepper flavor completely overpowered the dish and lingered on our tongues to the point of numbness. By the time my pasta arrived, neither of us could really taste it. I don't usually write reviews, but I felt really let down--especially because I had hyped this place up to my husband and was starving. I hope the chef from that night sees this and takes care to use a more balanced amount of pepper in the future. Again, the service was wonderful--our server even offered to comp the dish, which I declined. I just wanted to make sure the feedback was heard so someone else doesn't have the same experience read more

My girlfriend and I came for lunch and had the most amazing experience. It was beautiful inside. We had the lunch special and ordered steak frites, malfadine vodka pasta, roasted carrot and yams. Staff was what drew us to here, we walked by earlier in the day and were greeted by a sweet young man which made us return. We then were served by the general manager who was a doll and invited us to gingers tomorrow night. Would 100% return here read more
We spent our anniversary here at Ellie's, and while the food and service were impeccable- the parking was pretty packed. Make sure to account for AT LEAST 20 minutes to find a parking spot, especially on a Friday or weekends. Aside from that, our waiter (Tino) was great at keeping up boozed up while we waited for our food. I recommend the Spanish temaranillo they have- it goes great with their pasta. They have both outdoor and indoor seating, and an array of pasta dishes to choose from. It's not the most romantic place to eat, but clean, clear, and most of all a fine ambiance. read more

I used to come here when it was At Last Cafe. I've been wanting to try Ellie's since they opened. Tonight that happened. My friend and I had Mary's salad. Greens, blue cheese, pickled onions and candied pecans and a nice vinaigrette. We had the brussels sprouts and the special beef stroganoff. The brussels sprouts have a nice spicy sausage in them. The beef stroganoff was delicious. It had farfalle pasta and a delicious braised short rib. Our server, Christian, said the short rib was braised for 6-8 hours. It fell off the bone. The sauce was special. For dessert we had the chocolate budino. It had fresh raspberries and Marcona almonds. I had a glass of the Syrah. The wine was plumy and didn't take long to breathe. The inside of the restaurant is nice and cozy. They have a good number of outdoor tables. It was especially windy today so no one was seated outside As it always has been, the parking situation is awful. Patience is key. I definitely recommend Ellie's. read more

This review is just for their Monday Supper, which I've had the pleasure of going to twice before. I had seen Ellie's Monday Supper featured on the LB Food Scene Facebook group and was excited to check it out. $38 for a set meal is a steal. They have it every other Monday and you can make reservations on Resy via their website. I don't know if you need to have reservations, as neither time I went was it super full, but it is probably better to plan ahead. The supper includes four courses: small bites (which might actually be two or three things, a pasta course, a main entree and dessert. In both the dinners I had there, everything was delicious, but I only had pictures from my last visit. For the small bites, there was steak tartare and potato croquettes, which were really tasty. However the pasta, a corn agnolotti, was really great. It is an Italian restaurant so their pasta really stood out. The chicken entree was also delicious. The supper also included dessert which was a nice surprise since it's not listed on the printed menu. I think I had panna cotta on both visits, which was good. This is the best dining and food experience I've had in Long Beach and I would happily go back. read more
This place is such a cute date spot and the prices are reasonable. We heard of this restaurant through our friends who lived nearby and parking is street only because Long Beach. We made a reservation on the same day before they opened online and was seated at our time on a Sunday. We got the wagyu carpaccio, melon & shrimp salad, gnocchi and a bottle of wine. Everything was pretty good and our favorite dish was the gnocchi. I am looking forward to coming back to this restaurant and trying the parker's rolls and other pasta dishes as well. read more
Ellie's has got to be my favorite or one of my favorite restaurants in Long Beach. It has yet to disappoint and it is my go-to spot to bring my friends when they come visit. Don't be shy and come check out their brunch menu! Their breakfast pasta is SO good and I don't know why more places don't offer breakfast pasta? It is similar to carbonara pasta with thick/chewy noodles + bits of salty bacon. I recently tried their chilaquiles too which was good! I wish it was a little crunchier with the chips but it's just because I love everything extra crunchy! read more

Didn't know they had $1.50 oysters daily...wow! Loving them - had 18 San Diego Kumimotos...they were cold, fresh, and came with great sides. Didn't need to order a drink to get the deal either. Got two caviar ones for $5 each during HH and they were different but good. Now I have a local oyster spot to get my weekly intake for the key minerals I need! read more
My family came here to celebrate a couple of significant life events. This is the location picked by a recent graduate. I arrived 10 minutes before the appointed time, but had to drive around the neighborhood 30+ minutes trying to find a parking. Someone at the restaurant told me it's okay to park at red curb because parking is not enforced after 5pm. I choose not to take a chance, ended up park far away to be safe. Food is the most important factor to consider at any restaurant. That's where Ellie shines. I would recommend their pasta plates instead of seared tuna or the prime rib. Alternatively you can order a couple of appetizers or small plates instead of an entree. Bread pudding is good, served warm with a scoop of ice cream on top. Service at Ellie is very good. I would recommend a table outside because it is really hot inside with only one fan trying to ventilate, no a/c. read more
Made it back for a second round of Monday Supper. This time I was brought here for my birthday dinner! Note: there are no special arrangements or treats if it is your bday so keep that in mind if that is important during your Monday supper reservation. We had to wait a few minutes past our reservation for the table to free up but it was fairly quick. We had a couple of servers helping our table and it was a great and attentive service. The food was impeccable & I wish I had more even though we left stuffed! We had the burrata, meatballs, mafaldine, chicken & parm and the loup de mer. All of it was tied together with a yummy ice cream. This was my follow up experience after a not so great one so hopefully my first experience was just a rare occurrence for these events. Ellie's is a little gem, though not hidden precisely, it is somewhat cloaked by the many incredible places to eat within our amazing LB food scene. I'm so glad I finally made reservation here to celebrate my birthday with family! Though I will say it may not be the most ideal place for a large group, our group of 10 still walked away absolutely satisfied, and most of us delighted, with the food quality and taste. Our server was wonderful: Informative, pleasant, friendly, and gave us ample explanation on what to expect. They serve wine and beer only and we all tried a good variety of different items, many of us exchanged sips and I will say as far as their wine selection, I think the quality is wonderful. (I didn't try any of the beer but I heard no complaints for the beer drinkers.) Our server was excellent offering us input when we asked for guidance on the different wines and they had several selections beyond the standard whites and reds that made it interesting. Many of us to advantage of that, and the offer to try a sample of a wine we were curious about before ordering, to go outside our normal go-to's. Things for a group to know: The space inside is small...the patio although comfortable isn't huge either. This is a small restaurant that focuses on quality. (And the quality is incredible.) As a large group (not sure about couples or groups smaller than 10) should prepare to have their entire order, from entree through to main course, all selected when they order food. The server advised us of this as we put in our drink order, and explained it was so the kitchen could anticipate the coursing. This said, in our party, three people waited a little longer than the rest of us before their main entree came out, and of those three, one was delayed so long that many of us had given up on waiting because our food would have gotten cold. This slight inconvenience was still not enough to subtract any stars, since our server had already set our expectations clearly, knowing it's a small kitchen. Given that we'd already enjoyed such high quality appetizers and salad courses, we knew this would be worth the wait. It was! The appetizers may have been the highlight of the meal for me...we enjoyed amazing oysters already prepared for you the way the kitchen thought they should be garnished to enjoy. (They were spot on.) The burrata with rolls and a spicy red tomato spread is amazing. The favorite by far for all at the table were the scallops served raw/rare and topped with heaven only knows what but absolutely refreshing and delicious. 11 out of 10 for me! All our pastas were delicious, no notes. So, so good! The favorite as people exchanged tastes was maybe the tagliatelle with roast pork on a red sauce. I'll add a side note that I've never tried a gnocchi I could truly say I liked and that night for the first time I did...I tried a couple of bites from someone else's order and it changed my opinion of gnocchi. I'm now more open to the idea of it and would for sure order the gnocchi entrée at Ellie's. Ask for dessert. You're full already...that's okay...go for a walk afterward because dessert is worth the slight discomfort. We had a butterscotch budino...a layered butterscotch dessert (cream and cake layers) and wow was that butterscotch amazing. Best meal I've have enjoyed in a long time. Needed a last minute dinner place for out of town guests and Ellie's was perfect! Everyone LOVED the food! The scallops were a standout and the chicken piccata. Was influenced from TikTok/Instagram to check this place out and happened to come during happy hour. Service: All of the employees were friendly and nice. However, it did take 45 minutes or so for one of our dishes to arrive. Food: Their Happy Hour oysters were $1.50 an oyster which is a great deal. The presentation of the other food we ordered seemed a little rushed and just thrown on. I could see this place taking off if their plating was consistent with what is portrayed on their social media. We were given side plates and they were not properly cleaned/washed. There was what I assume sauce smeared over one of the plates, which we didn't end up using and the plate also had a big chip in it. Small details matter in the restaurant industry, and I feel that plates shouldn't be used if they have cracks in it. The wine I got was delicious, but wished they had more upscale handcrafted cocktails. Seemed like they only had white wine, rose, red wine, and beer. If they did have cocktails, we didn't get any menu that showed they had them. Ambiance: It's a cute little place on Second street. When we walked up, there was a giant pile of trash loosely dumped next to the outside seating area. We didn't sit there, but I wouldn't be thrilled with being sat in that location knowing there was trash dumped on the other side of the fence that separates the sitting area from the street. Not a lot of decor outside, but could really use it. Wasn't very busy during happy hour, but noticed a lot of people struggling to find parking. We parked about a block and a half away but didn't mind the walk. I didn't see the inside of the restaurant, but my boyfriend used the bathroom and said it was pretty gross. He even pointed out that I shouldn't use it because it was that bad. Overall, this place has a lot of potential if they focused more on attentive service, consistency with their plating that they show on social media, and cleanliness/decor. Definitely going to give this place a second shot at some point because I see the potential. However, there is a lot that the kitchen/overall atmosphere needs to improve on in order to make this place memorable and have repeat customers. read more
This is my third time dining at Ellie's, and once again, I'm extremely satisfied with the experience. The food is consistently incredible--flavorful, beautifully prepared, and worth every bite. The atmosphere is elegant and fresh, and the service is solid and attentive without being overbearing. What keeps me coming back, aside from the amazing food, is the seasonal menu. Each visit has brought something new and exciting, with months between trips ensuring a fresh experience every time. To be honest, I'm usually not a fan of Italian food--especially in Southern California, where I often find it not worth the carbs or too similar to something I could just make at home. But Ellie's completely changed that for me. Their dishes are not only worth a night out, they're truly special and unlike anything I could recreate. Not even close. Ellie's is a gem. Food was so good, flavorful not too salty, the French toast was so fluffy and thick. We got sat quickly and the service was attentive. The ambiance is coastal and chic. Indoor and outdoor seating available. I'd come again to try their dinner menu. read more
This review is so long overdue. The food and service are elite! Ellies is phenomenal. 100/10 Hands down, it is the best Italian restaurant I have ever eaten at. Chef Jason absolutely hits it out of the park. I've had so many wonderful memories here, and I've even made friends with the staff; Evelyn (the main Host/Manager) is such a doll! She's truly the best. She and her staff are always on point and take care of me. I've had so many of their dishes and have zero complaints. Chefs kiss to them all! Gnocchi - is 100/10 GET IT. (This is the only dish I miss since I stopped eating pork :'( Chicken Marsala with button mushrooms and crispy potatoes is cooked to perfection. Meatballs - you've never had meatballs like this. It will leave you craving for the next visit. 100/100 Ribeye hash - fall-off-the-bone mouth-watering ribeye laid perfectly over crispy tiny potatoes, swimming in the salsa macha, with pickled peppers for the perfect crunch balance (oh my gosh...) and let's not forget the exceptional poached eggs, with hollandaise over it. Highly recommend 100/100 French toast Never have I ever, and to say it's good is an understatement. This is an experience. Pickled strawberries!?
