I've booked marked this place for a long time & finally got to try it couple of nights ago. Hubby & I came here for HH. I've read reviews that parking is hard to find but we got super lucky & found a spot right away. Place was empty when we walked in at 5pm but got busier as time flew by. Ambiance is small with limited seating but they got outdoor patio seating. Weather was warm outside so we sat indoors but it was pretty hot inside too with no AC. Thankfully, the food won us over. We started off with oysters, Peruvian scallops, & crab dip off the HH menu. I've had better oysters elsewhere but it was still fresh. Scallops were really good. Crab dip was solid & I really liked the soft texture of the milk bread. It paired well with the crab dip. From the main menu, we ordered the angel hair pasta & waygu tartare. These 2 dishes were my fav of the night. The pasta came with main lobster & shrimp. It was simply delicious & not filling. Noodles were cooked perfectly. The garlic & chili flakes added a nice flavor to the dish. The waygu tartare was so good. I was impressed with the sourdough bread turning out so soft & not hard to bite into. We were seated right away, but service moved very slowly. After letting our server know we needed more time to decide on drinks, we were never checked on again. The drinks menu and wine glasses were gradually taken without any follow-up. We traveled about an hour to try this place and didn't expect the meal to take close to two hours, especially since we had other plans afterward. We were understanding at first and could see that the restaurant was understaffed, so the wait itself wasn't the issue. However, after seeing two to three tables that were seated after us receive their pasta before we did, it became frustrating. Our toddler's food didn't arrive until over an hour after we were seated, and one of our two pasta dishes came out about 15 minutes after that. By then, we were already full and had to take one dish to go. We understand staffing challenges, but there was no acknowledgment for the delays. When the first pasta was dropped off, we were simply told the gnocchi would come soon, which felt dismissive given how long we had already been waiting. A quick check-in or apology would have gone a long way. As for the food, the wagyu tartare with black garlic aioli was good, and the burrata had a nice Calabrian chile kick, though the portion was small. I visited Ellie's on a Tuesday afternoon around 4 PM and was seated indoors. The restaurant was fairly quiet at that hour, so I expected attentive service, unfortunately, that wasn't the case. I ordered the burger and fries. Visually, the burger was impressive and looked exactly like something you'd want to dig into. However, the salt level was overwhelming to the point where I genuinely could not finish it. What made matters worse was that our server was not attentive with refilling our waters, and when you're working through an extremely salty dish, hydration isn't optional. I left the meal feeling dehydrated and honestly a little frustrated. The bright spot of the visit was the Brussels sprouts, which were genuinely well done and showed some real kitchen care. If I were to return, I'd probably stick to the vegetable sides. For a restaurant with a 4 PM lull and minimal table traffic, there's no excuse for that level of inattentiveness. A simple water refill and a quick check in would have saved the experience. As it stands, the combination of an over salted entrée and absent service made for a tough sell on the value. If you're in the area craving a burger, you might want to save your money and head down the street to Louis Burger instead. We went here on a Sunday afternoon for dinner with a couple of friends. The parking here is very difficult, almost IMPOSSIBLE, because there are neighboring apartments and other small businesses. It is all street parking. Unless by some miracle you find one, you'd most likely have to park at least half a mile away and walk to the restaurant. The food was just OK. It felt like something you could whip up yourself at home in a couple of minutes with minimal effort. Nothing really stood out. We ordered Oysters, Burrata, Gnocchi, and Tagliatelle. The serving portions were tiny in my eyes. I still felt like I had to eat something afterwards to feel full. The service was amazing though. Very friendly staff, and they always checked up on us. Wait time was about 30 minutes to get everything to our table. They only have 1 gender neutral, shared bathroom, so be prepared to hold it in if there are a lot of customers. Because of the parking situation and the disappointment in food quality, we won't be going back. Summary: - BATHROOM. One shared, gender-neutral toilet. - CLEANLINESS. Clean tables outside and the utensils are wrapped in a table cloth. - COSTS. $$$ Expensive. - CUSTOMER SERVICE. The staff was friendly and prompt. After reading an article about Ginger's, my wife and I made a reservation to celebrate our anniversary. Ginger's is a small room that seats up to 12 diners at a communal table. It is only open for dinner and serves a prix fixe menu each night--the menu changes every 3 weeks. The food is prepared by the kitchen at Ellie's, which is run by the same chef. The food is eclectic. We dined on oysters, pork fritters, sashimi, honey-baked yams, wagyu steak, and a pumpkin parfait for dessert. Most of the dishes were very good. The dessert was a let-down. Sitting at a communal table allowed us to meet the other diners. Conversation flowed, and the room got very loud, because there was nothing to baffle the sound. The price of the meal is $85 per person, with a $50 per person optional wine pairing. Street parking is the only option. Leave time to find a parking space, which can be tough. read more

It's so loud you'll have to scream, mime, or learn sign language just to ask your date if they're enjoying themselves. Great if you're on a date you don't want to talk to. What a quaint little restaurant with a nice neighborhood vibe. It's the perfect place to go to when walking and exploring Long Beach. We had 3 dishes (all with eggs on the sides since one person is allergic), the Breakfast Pasta, the Chilaquiles, and the Hangar Steak Hash. That also happened to be the order of when they came out and of deliciousness, lol. The Breakfast Pasta has poached egg (on the side), Truffle, bacon, and aged parmesan breadcrumbs on top of the pasta. It is very delicious pasta and all the ingredients work well together without tasting so one-note. It's no wonder that it is one of their most popular dishes. The Chilaquiles is also very popular for a very good reason. If you love a little bit of heat and more complex flavor, then this one is for you. The dish comprises of confit chicken, salsa bomba, cream, cilantro, and sunny side egg (on the side). It is a very interesting savory dish with a lot of flavor and good earthy spiciness. This is not your typical boring chips-and-salsa, that's for sure. Lastly, we got the Hangar Steak Hash, which sadly is less exciting after the first 2 dishes. It is a bit more on the safe side, and the crispy potatoes were a little less crispy, when the salsa Macha, pickled peppers, and hollaindaise kinda blend together without being too distinct. It's a good dish, just not one to have after better dishes. All in all, I am looking forward to trying out more on the menu, though! Okay to be honest I lost count on how many times I've eaten here. First things first Call in to make your reservation don't do it on any applications because sometimes it won't even go through. Sadly this happened to me twice but the staff is so amazing that they still accommodated. I've been here for lunch and dinner and their menus for both are really good. Had reservations for dinner here on a Saturday night. It was pretty busy upon our arrival but we got sat down right away. Parking was kinda tough, so make sure you give yourseld enough time to park. We sat inside and it was small but really nice inside. The service was great, our server was very attentive and welcoming. We started with the bone marrow board and it was delicious. All the spreads were great, the bread was perfectly toasted and fresh. We then got the Caesar salad, it didnt seem to be a traditional Caesar dressing it was very light and not too creamy. The mafaldine was ok, it didnt taste like a spicy vodka sauce it was a bit bland and the sauce was just plain. The short ribs agnolotti was also just ok, the rib was a bit dry and over cooked. I wish I had a better review to leave but this just isn't the case.... my girlfriend and I came here to try there prefixed menu during lunch and we legit were the only people there around 3pm. The service was good and our waiter tried his best so there's no complaints on that end. Our apps took about 30 minutes to hit our table and another 30 minutes to get our mains, both of which had hairs in them, amounting to 4 hairs in total....we didn't complain and just moved on trying to enjoy the meal. Given how long everything took, once the mains hit the table we asked for the desserts to be brought out. The desserts came out immediately, the chef decided strawberries and whip cream was the effort he'd put out after the beyond long wait for our food. The food itself wasn't bad, but given the hair in every dish it was hard to enjoy and look past. The lowest effort possible of strawberries and whip cream after such a long wait just felt like a slap in the face. I would say I'd be back to give this place another try but I'd be lying, I wish the experience was better but it was just such a let down. Only giving it 2 stars instead of 1 because the food wasn't bad and the service was solid so while I wish I could review things individually, the reality was overall a big let down apart from the server and food itself. read more

This is a decent place for Italian food. The roasted cauliflower was pretty good and unique. The pepperocini and red onions went well with it. The angel hair with mussels and clams were very good. It looks like spaghetti-os but it is very good. The gnocchi was also good and interesting given its abnormal shape.it was very pillowy and good with the sauce. Both pasta dishes had some sort of kick with it. The atmosphere was lively and but of noise with as many ppl as there was eating there. The service was a little bit inconsistent, from being late to being seated after making a reservation to not being attendee to in a timely manner. Overall good place to eat at. I've tried Ellie's twice in the past month and had mixed experiences. My first visit was for brunch. There was a short wait for an outdoor table, but I was seated in less than ten minutes. The table was a bit dusty and dirty when I was seated and the hostess commented on it as she put down my menu. I expected that she or someone else would follow up by cleaning it off, but I had to ask them to clean the table when the server came out with some water. I get that it's outside on a street and that the tables are going to get a bit dusty, but then you should wipe each one down before seating someone. Or at the very least, follow through after noticing a table is dirty when seating a guest. I was in the mood for a good potato dish, so I ordered the hangar steak hash, which promised "crispy potatoes." This was a misnomer. While the potatoes might have started out crispy, they were then drowned in a lake of salsa macha that left them soft and a little mushy. Needless to say I was super disappointed in that portion of the meal. The hangar steak, however, was divine. I'm not sure calling this dish a "hash" did it any real service, because it is really is not. If it had been billed as sliced hangar steak served on potatoes in salsa macha my expectations would have been much more in line with what I received. For my next visit I decided to try the prix fixe lunch menu. For $35 you get a salad or veggie side, entree, and chef's choice dessert. There is a $10 upcharge for the steak frites, which I do understand, but also as a standalone entree it only costs a couple of dollars more than some of the other items, so $10 seems a little high. I think $5 would be more reasonable. I ordered the shrimp & melon salad and malfadine. The shrimp & melon salad was delicious. I highly recommend it. The malfadine was a perfectly al dente thick pasta with a slightly spicy sauce and a small amount of burrata. Portions of both the salad and pasta were generous and I took half my pasta home as leftovers. The dessert was brought out but not described before the server walked away. Since there are no desserts listed on the menu, it would be nice for the server to tell you what they are giving you when they bring it out. It was a refreshing cup of berries, freshly whipped cream (not too sweet), and a balsamic drizzle. It was a nice light ending to the meal. Considering both visits, my impression of Ellie's is that the level of service does not rise to the high prices. The prix fixe lunch, however, is an excellent value and if you're going to give Ellie's a try I would highly recommend you start there. read more

We also got the crab toast which was delish but not a huge portion - good to share with two I think. The burrata was delish (the rolls it came with were really good). The beef tartare was good too. We also got the shrimp dish which was three large sized shrimp but I'm not sure if it was the shrimp that day but they tasted a little fishy (not super fresh). Otherwise the seasoning was good. Had high hopes for Ellie's after hearing great things from local friends, and while there were definitely some highlights, the overall experience fell a bit short for me. We ordered the Ellie's Caesar, the Angel Hair Pasta, and the Mafaldine with sausage. Of the two pastas, I preferred the angel hair -- it had a nice flavor, but I wish the sauce had been a bit thicker and served hotter. The mafaldine had well-spiced sausage and I liked the texture of the thick noodles -- hearty and satisfying. The Caesar salad was fresh and nicely dressed with a good tang from the lemon, but it leaned a little too sour for my taste. We sat on the patio, which was a plus -- the weather was great and it's a nice setup for a relaxed meal. Service was fine, nothing out of the ordinary. I only really leave reviews if a place really stands out, both in a fantastic way, but in some cases, like Ellies in not the best ways. I'm hoping this was an off night for them because man, what a let down. This was my friend and my first time here and it was all over pretty rocky. To start, zero ac inside, we asked to move outside and they very quickly accommodated us which was great. We came for the LB week 3 course after seeing the menu online. I was looking forward to the Tuna entree but they had changed the fish, that's ok changes happen but my second choice was the steak... this was unfortunate because online it just listed it as an individual entree upcharge where at the location it was actually required to share and a double upcharge. So I ordered what was never a preference and got the replacement fish. On top of that there were some misleading wording about the pastas but that's ok, wasn't even the worst part. We ordered, along with some oysters and were excited to get started. Things started great with the table apps and wine but it was about 15 minutes after we finished those we thought we should check on those oysters, glad I did because they clearly weren't going to come out. Besides a few missing condiments to go with the oysters, the food was great up to this point. But, it was now over 40 minutes since our apps and the 2nd course (pasta) was no where to be found, better ask again. Another flag down. Both pastas came out about 5 minutes later having clearly just been cooked and both were underwhelming. There was mention of Italian sausage as a listed ingredient but as a Sicilian I can tell you, please don't bother listing this ingredient, it was microscopic at best. Another suprise came when the check hit the table and we had to inform the server we hadn't even received our entrees. It made sense though because even though we ordered around 720, it was now almost 9pm and they were closing. By the time the entrees came out (3 minutes before 9) the pace had been so slow we were just so annoyed we wanted to go home. We actually had to cancel the plans we had after dinner because it was getting too late. Honestly, the worst part was that there was no way they didn't know how long service was taking and there wasn't a single person that even said, "we're so sorry about the wait". We honestly understand things happen, but to completely pretend it's normal and not acknowledge that we had to keep asking about our food.... I mean, that just makes us feel like we chose the wrong spot because we clearly weren't that important. read more

This is absolutely unbelievable food. I just ate there last night and woke up to write a review. I don't think I've ever written a review so fast after eating. This is the second time I've been here. Second time was because I had something delicious the first time. It was a braised short rib type dish but I don't remember what it was exactly, but it made an impression on me. Had to see if Ellie's was a one-dish pony. It's not. I jumped on Yelp, right before our reservation (highly recommended) and looked up the most popular dishes. Several Yelpers suggested the shrimp and melon salad. This is BY FAR, my favorite salad now. Even though the combination seems odd, you should try it at least once. It's very flavorful and refreshing. My supersweet waiter then recommended the gnocchi as another popular dish and it too was fabulous. It's way more robust dish than you would imagine. It does have a little kick to it so be careful if you don't like spicy. My friend got the angelhair pasta which was also very tasty. I have to say, the food is absolutely unbelievable. It's as if the chef and I have the exact same preferences. Other details: The restaurant itself is nice, intimate and clean. Love the people who work here too. Our waiter was so nice and personable. Wish I knew his name to thank him for his recommendations. He had a beanie. :) Only negative is the parking. I'd suggest ubering there or plan on driving around for a bit and wear your walking shoes. This place... We went for an early dinner. The brussel sprouts were delicious. HIGHLY recommend and what saved this from having no stars. There are flies EVERYWHERE. It was almost unsanitary. The water was warm they served in oily giara glass bottles. My pasta (Malfadine) was bland, my friends pasta (Cavatelli) was aggressively salty. Random man with basketball shorts strolls into the kitchen. Not a hairnet or gloves in site from anyone in the kitchen. I'm just... Beside myself. This restaurant had good reviews so I made a reservation since we were up for the weekend. The restaurant is cute and intimate and has a nice outdoor patio area. It was pretty chilly outside and they kept the front door open which made the restaurant very cold. It was pretty uncomfortable. Other patrons were moving from the tables in front of the door as it was that cold. Our server was very nice. He explained that they have a smaller kitchen so once we knew our whole order, he would take it. He also noted that their menu was meant to be family style and shared. I would have to disagree. The servings were enough just for one person so I would not say "family style". But we all tried each other's entrees. Also a quick note that isn't a huge deal but he never refilled our water container so we had to ask for more water. We ordered the following: Carpaccio- so nice and refreshing. The olives gave it a nice zangy flavor. Yam- wow! It was creamy but the skin was crispy. The sauce was light and it all went very well together. Lasagna- you could tell the pasta was homemade. It was so light and good. The sausage was fantastic and the sauce was amazing. Tagliatelle- the pasta was great but the sauce was smoky and very good. Wagyu sirloin- nice and tender and the chimichurri was good and a bit smoky. My stepson got the bread pudding dessert and he said it was good. Cute restaurant. Came here with my best friend to celebrate her birthday and we had such a wonderful dinner! The restaraunt itself is a little smaller but so cute, and the service was amazing. Our waiter was so knowledgeable of the menu and the whole cooking process. He was so nice & so thorough answering all of our questions :) (and offered us samples of the wines we were unsure about!) The food was delicious & 100% worth the visit. The potato croquettes are addicting & i ordered this black truffle gnocchi (?) I think it was the Mafaldine but i'm not 100% sure. Ellie's - Italian Near Me - Long Beach, California

The food was excellent and the service was great but I have to be honest and say I would never consider going back to Ellie's. In Long Beach, it is just inappropriate to have $30 entrees without air-conditioning. There are other equally good Italian restaurants that offer a much more comfortable dining experience. The place is pretty small so for less than $5k the owners could have a split system installed. Furthermore, they didn't even offer ice water on a 90 degree day. The wait staff were sweating too. I had this place on my list to try for a while. Again, the food was great, but I really would not consider supporting a restaurant that charges a premium but doesn't deliver comfort while dining. Spend your money somewhere the owners give a damn about their customers and their staff. read more

I had such a good experience at Ellie's the food and service was amazing! Or waiter recommended some amazing options and they were all great! The only bad part was the parking! There is no parking so come earlier to drive around for a bit looking for parking. But I will say it is worth it. read more

Next is the price (super overpriced for the portion and lack of flavor) and the very slow lack of enthusiasm and sense of urgency. This restaurant has been on my list to try for years and I finally got the chance to try it for the first time with some family. It was amazing. The service was excellent. All staff were very friendly and attentive. We sat outside and it felt like a cozy neighborhood café/restaurant. We ordered many dishes and they were all flavor explosions. One of our favorite dishes was the gnocchi. The gnocchi itself had an almost pillow texture and was the best gnocchi I've ever had. I will definitely be coming back here. I think the only difficult thing will be trying different dishes since the ones we had were so amazing. read more
