I made a reservation for my husbands birthday, when we walked in on a Saturday night - this place was only half full. Even when I had told them about my husbands birthday, they gave us the worst possible table in restaurant even when it wasn't full. I had to ask for a better table. Drinks were average - food was horrible and the service wasn't up to the mark. I've been to muchhh better places which are as expensive. This is a definite NO, please don't go here for special occasions. read more

We arrived Sunday night at 6:00 without reservations. About 25% of the tables inside were filled but we were told that we would have to eat outside, that it was covered and had fans. What we were not told was that the sun made the outside seating too hot to be coomfortable--it shone directly into our eyes. We ordered little meal, ate quickly becasue we were too hot, and left in about an hour. When we left the resaurant inside was still only 25% full. It was obvious that we weren't wecome without a reservation--snooty restaurant. We were well dressed (suit and tie) so that wan't the problem. Why should we go again? I don't know. We were driving by and stopped on a whim--a big mistake we won't repeat. read more

I'm a serious foodie and I enjoy trying restaurants all over the world from street carts to 5-star places. Eleven has high aspirations, and amazing interior design. It's a very pretty place and a good choice to impress a date, but if you're there for the food, I'd only give it a "C." While it's carefully prepared and pretty, most things I've tried there were bland, and servings were small. There weren't any tasty sauces on the plate, nor were there even any salt/pepper shakers on the table and it took some effort to get a waiter to bring some. How can diver scallops be bland? That takes some effort. The crab cakes were the only thing we had with some flavor. Anyway, there wasn't anything actually bad in the experience, but the food didn't meet the build-up, the decor, or the descriptions given by some of the other reviewers. read more

The vegetarian tasting menu is always an outstanding marriage of so many unique flavors. The wine pairing gives each course a smoothness to the palate that is unforgettable. Our favorite restaurant for any special occasion. The wait staff is very attentive to your needs and quite knowledgeable. read more

We had a reservation of five people, and we asked them to accommodate a couple more people. The restaurant had multiple open tables, and when we sat down, the management team, specifically Ron, inappropriately yelled at two of our party and shouted at them that they could not sit at the table. Moments later a large group sat down next to our table without a reservation. They obviously had the space. His behavior was rude and unacceptable. He clearly has issues and should not be in the service industry. We had no issues with the other staff, but I would definitely never go back. read more

I was treated to a birthday brunch by friends two Sundays ago at Eleven. Since I hadn't eaten at this place for several years, I agreed to go even though I was unimpressed after my last dinner visit and hefty dinner tab. When we arrived for our reservation, the three of us were seated at a large half circle table next to a large party with noisy unmanaged children. I eventually requested another table. We were promptly moved which I appreciated. The waiter then came to the table and appeared to be somewhat hung over. He took our orders including my coffee order. We were then served cold bread and spreads. Hmm...I would have expected better for a high end "brunch." I then asked for a coffee refill but never got it. I later decided to order grapefruit juice but then again never got it. When the waiter finally came back to our table, he said that the food servers sometimes forget to tell him. Way to throw your coworkers under the bus. I then had to ask for more coffee again. The food was acceptable, but portions were quite small for a "brunch." Our tab for three was close to $80. Doesn't seem like much has changed since my last experience there. A hefty bill for marginal service and half empty stomachs. Yowza. I don't think I'll be back again. read more

We went to Eleven for my birthday the other night! While the service was excellent , my main course was a nightmare. The appetizers were great. However, my main course had steamed vegetables drowning in butter... I asked for just steamed! The next plate had an ice cold crab cake on it... I sent this back and settled on a plate of fruit... Which was lovely. The manager was apologetic as was the server... I certainly will think twice about coming back as these were rookie mistakes! read more

After my daughters wedding, her "new Blended Family" consisted of 6 children! There were 10 adults and 10 children as guests after the intimate wedding . The couple chose Eleven for their reception and they were extremely happy with their choice. The food was delicious, they poured the champagne, ...and cut the wedding cake we brought( at no charge!). Best of all, they put the adults at one table and the children at another table! Service was perfect, just as the food. read more

One of my favorite restaurants in Pittsburgh. Food is out of this world and I always get the gin gimlet!

I needed a very special restaurant to celebrate getting engaged, and Eleven was the perfect choice. They accommodated the request for a more "private" table, and the meal was superb. The saffron pappardelle may have been the best part of the meal, and it was the appetizer! So delicious! The smoked berkshire pork shank melted in your mouth, and the prime strip steak was supreme. We completed the meal with a delicious banana cream pie. All of this was made even more enjoyable by the excellent service from Doug (our waiter) - he knew exactly how much attention to give us, guided us through the menu, never lingered by the table, wasn't too chatty - just perfect. Thank you Eleven for helping to make a special occasion even more memorable. read more

Beautiful, warm ambiance (without being stuffy or too fancy). Especially loved the bar. Menu is creative, food delicious, and the staff on the restaurant side is really knowledgeable. The guys on the bar side were not quite so attentive and didn't seem to really care too much about our experience...but everyone on the restaurant side was clearly very passionate about making sure that diners had a great experience. Everything from appetizers to dessert was great. Will definitely return. read more

Wow. Wow. Wow. Best of the best. Coming from NYC (not wanting to be snobby), the bar is high for restaurants - there are so many vying for the top. Eleven IS the top. Prior to dining at Eleven I really did not understand reviews that spoke about "experiencing food" or "lingering flavors". Now I do. More precisely, we do - our party of 4, ages from 21 to 84, - everyone savored and embraced each course. Every bite (of salad, appetizer, meat, fish, dessert..) led to amazing sensations that (I kid not) were relived 24 hours after. Each plate offered a unique experience (can't believe I am using that word about eating) - yet all worked in tandem with other dishes. Fresh baked breads, enticing salads, totally tasty appetizers, swordfish done to perfection, filet to die for - only topped by JOE our more than waiter. Dine here. read more

This is truly the best restaurant I've been to in a long time. First of all, it's beautiful, so the atmosphere is great right of the bat. Our server was wonderful. Not only was he a nice guy, but his passion for the food he served was evident, and his recommendations were spot-on. Loved it! read more

Had a chance to sneak out for a date night dinner while we were in town last weekend - and Eleven was a great choice! They seated us a nice quiet booth overlooking the bar. The service was well orchestrated - our waiter was personable and efficient, he was always there when we needed him, but never hovered. Very nice wine selection. The food was fantastic with great attention to detail. Salted focaccia....tapenade croutons.... We ordered the yellow tail sashimi to share....they actually split the portion and created two perfect little plates. We followed with the three greens salad, fava bean salad, halibut and lamb chops. The halibut was a spectacular dish. The lamb was only ok - seemed like a lot of work to eat. Eleven has a nice upscale feel, but delivers a very relaxed experience. read more

We recently booked one of the private rooms and were given the banquet menu choices. After a meal of what I felt was ordinary food with lack luster service, the waiter had to audacity to inform our guests that "the hosts did not arrange for gratuity". When one books a banquet menu, the tip should be included in the price. I have never been asked to provide a tip at a wedding or work banquet. I find this practice totally unacceptable. As someone who entertains multiple groups for business throughout the year, I will definitely not be looking to Eleven for any of these occasions or returning for a dinner out on my own. read more

I'm taking Eleven off my list, despite the very good, albeit pricey, food, including the cavatelli, ribeye and marvelous asparagus side I experienced last night. But our service was slow, forgetful and, as a table of four women, we felt neglected. Also, as a table of four women, we were literally huddled together like baby chicks because we were so cold, with an Arctic blast that the waiter said he attempted to address but from which we never felt much relief. Too many other good choices to deal with these kinds of things when spending such big bucks. read more

Be prepared for some of the most condescending hosts you will ever meet! My husband and I had a reservation at 7/23 at 8:45 pm and we checked in at 8:40 pm. The host told us (without welcoming us and without eye contact) that our table was not yet ready but we can wait at the bar and then check in again. My husband and I made our way to the bar before we realized the host had told us to check in again and did not mention that he would come get us. Don't most restaurants have the host come find you at the bar once your table is ready? So we made our way back to the host desk to make sure we didn't misunderstood the "check-in again" instruction. The host looked down his nose , which incidentally had a bat in the right cave, and enunciated, "As I have MENTIONED you will NEED to CHECK IN again... in FIFTEEN minutes, which is when YOU made YOUR reservation for." In fifteen minutes? That means 9 pm! We informed the host again that we had a 8:45 pm reservation. The host checked his computer, asked for our last name again, and said our table will be ready in a few minutes. He did not apologize for confusing our reservation and he did not apologize for the delay. In a few minutes, his colleague led us to our table without a single word of welcome. After handing our menus with a stiff and very sarcastic gentle incline at the waist, he left without a single word wishing us a pleasant evening or meal. Meanwhile, the hosts seemed to be very kind and warm to the other patrons who were white. Needless to say, my husband and I are not white. The hosts really ruined the experience for us. We contemplated walking out but our waiter arrived and his charm and welcoming attitude convinced us to give the food a chance. The food was delicious but not worth being mistreated for. If it was not for the nasty, condescending, and possibly racist attitude of the hosts, I would give this restaurant a 4-star review. I hope the restaurant management considers retraining their hosts to be more welcoming and hospitable. After all, the restaurant business is a a business of hospitality and service. read more

This is in my opinion the best fine dining in Pittsburgh. Excellent menu with locally grown food. The service couldn't be better. I had a filet that was cooked to perfection topped with zuccini atop a mountain of mashed potatoes. For desert I had Elevens take on a s'more. Delicious. Enough said. read more

This is another one of my pgh faves. I think it would be safe to say that it's a notch above all other eateries in the city...on all levels. When you first enter the restaurant, it's almost like you're not in pittsburgh. The finishes are really beautiful...granite, onyx, and other niceties. Even the barware and china were beautiful and are things I wouldn't mind having in my own home...not typical restaurant style. The caliber of the food is also great. However, some of the dishes were a tad salty. The breads are also great and are baked in house. The wine list is the best in the city, hands down. Although it seems to be mostly american, they had some really nice bordeaux and even some impressive italians. The desserts were also great and everything seems to be made in house...even the ice creams. read more

I had the Vegetarian tasting menu last fall, and it was pretty good. My favorite part was the beet salad, which was amazing. The courses to follow were only ok. A little bland. But, i would definitely go back just to have the beet salad again! Beautiful restaurant, I love the ambiance. A little on the expensive side. Ample aparking across the street. read more

Simply the best food I've had in ages. Prices can be on the high side but overall an amazing place to eat.

I had my first dining experience at Eleven last week and the food, service and ambiance were all great! I had asparagus soup and the scallops, which melted in your mouth. Our male server was excellent!. I will definitely go back! read more

Service was great here for Sunday Brunch. Waiter was really attentive and nice. Food took a while tho. Pastrami Hash was really good but there steak and eggs dish was super bland. Eggs Benedict was a lot tastier tho. Spicy bloody Mary's which I like as well. Overall was a decent brunch. read more

Super fancy and pricey, but one of my favorite Pittsburgh restaurants. Anything you get is absolutely fantastic, right down to the bread basket and ridiculously good cocktails. Parking is easy without using their valet. They have a surprisingly great Mother's day brunch too, which I never would have expected, but when May comes around think of them. read more

Service was great, as were the dozen oysters. The mignonette was superb. However, my lamb entree was overcooked, and my wife's roasted chicken and her gnocchi appetizer were inedibly over-salted. The white asparagus soup was bland and uninventive. In addition, we had a hard time enjoying ourselves over the sound of whom I presume was the chef cursing and yelling at the kitchen staff. Finally, the decor is hopelessly outdated now. Perhaps in 2005 it was state of the art, but it'd be nice if someone realized a decade and a half has passed since then. 2/5 overall, and we will not be trying again. Hard to understand how this establishment was voted one of the best restaurants in Pittsburgh. For better, more creative food at a better price point with stylish and contemporary decor, I'd recommend avoiding downtown and the Strip and instead looking at some of the up-and-coming places in the East End and South Side. read more

I am not sure how the majority of stars is 5 on this restaurant. If I could give it 0 stars I would. We got a table upstairs and our waitress Megan came over. She had 0 personality and you can tell she just wanted to keep making the check more expensive so her tip would be higher. She didn't even introduce herself, we only knew her name because it said it on the check. If you are a waitress at a high class restaurant like that one I expect better service. I ordered the hanger steak and my husband ordered the tagliatelle. As we waited we were given one slice of bread each. Was good, but we wanted more because it was so small as if it was a sample. Our food came, first impression of my hanger steak was this is so small. Honestly, my hanger steak should of been on the appetizer list, that's how small it was. My husbands first impression of his tagliatelle was it smelled like semen. No, I am not trying to be funny it 100% smelt like semen. I don't know why he tried a bite but he did. He couldn't eat it, from the smell. Is this place special sauce semen or something? Honestly, I don't know how no one has ever said something about it. My poor husband was sick afterwards, I had to go home and make him and I something to eat. Since his smelt like semen and mine was so small I was still hungry. Never again will I go to this restaurant. IF YOU HAVE A BIG BURRITO GROUP COUPON GO TO CASBAH 100X BETTER. read more

This was our first visit to Pittsburgh so we were relying on Yelp to find us a good restuarant, which I must say it did. The Eleven is a terrific location with easy parking. The ambience is delightful, upscale cozy contemporary. The wait staff are wonderful and ours was passionate about food. The food was both interesting and delicious. Our party of four, all oyster lovers, were very pleased with theirs. We had two different entrees, the fish sampler which featured some kind of white fish that I cannot remember, salmon and crab cakes, the cakes being the best of the three; all crab, almost no breading, with mild seasoning. We all agreed that the pasta with mushrooms and other delictable vegetables and perfectly sauced was better . The best part of the meal for me was the lava cake dessert. Though you can get this everywhere now, I have never had a better one. It was devine. I would definitely return to this place. read more

My Wife and I went there because she had friends say it was romantic. We asked to be placed somewhere special for our anniversary, and ended up at a table within a couple feet from a group in jeans, which was heartbreaking for me to see my wife's disappointment of our table . It was clear there were several tables vacant, but to accommodate the restaurant the waiter placed us where it made sense for the restaurant. We tried to enjoy the food, but it was apparent our enjoyment was less than a priority by staff,. Please do not assume that just because they ask if its a special event, you will get anything other than a piece of white chocolate between the same balls of cake they give everyone. Make sure you do what I wished I would of done, which was to beg the lady at the front to appreciate our special event and give us a nice table. For a claim of the most romantic restaurant in Pittsburgh, both the service and food are a complete let down. read more

Overall, this was a lovely experience. The décor was chic, most of the food was exceptional, and the staff was personal. (Our server did seem a bit off; however, I feel like this may have been because our chemistries just didn't mix. I'm assuming he was an outlier.) Starting with the bread basket, I was most impressed by the lightly salted focaccia bread. For my entrée, I went with a vegetarian dish - the Riccolina pasta (elbow pasta with walnuts, kale, and pumpkin). This was positively delicious and more filling than I had expected. Eventually, I had to give up trying to finish it. For dessert, I went with the crème brule. Sadly, I did regret this decision as this dish was predictable and seemed to pale in comparison to the more inventive choices. (Also, the custard was a bit warm and the texture a bit watery.) Other than that, I left satisfied and will definitely be making a return visit. read more

Spectacular. Chef is an artist in every sense of the word. I had the great fortune of dining at The French Laundry in Yountville, CA back in 2004 and I'm happy to put this tasting menu toe-to-toe with Keller's. I've experienced many imitators who attempted a "tasting menu", but this is the first one since Keller to actually transport me to a sort of alternate reality where every bite is more than food. The presentation was beautiful, service was impeccable, and the food was...oh my...it was what food should be. Body and soul were nourished. The ballet of service was pleasantly balanced with the perfect execution of cuisine. For those worried that they will walk away hungry from a tasting menu, stop worrying and try this. NOW!...and spend the extra money for top-shelf wine pairings. Next time we're in Pittsburgh (hopefully soon) we'll be back at Eleven to see what Chef has up his sleeve. I really hope it's another obscenely large hunk of foie gras. read more

Disappointed with my first meal at Eleven. Wife enjoyed the Curried Chicken and Sweet Potato Soup and her Salmon entree. Her Baby Kale and Brussel Sprout Caesar Salad had no brussel sprouts and no croutons. My tasting menu had a decent Tuna Tartare. The Striped Bass was solid. Nothing special. Good flavors, but nothing I would order again or lead me back to the restaurant. The lamb temp was off. It was cooled for too long, and the portion was tiny - even for a tasting menu. The only bites felt cold in my mouth. It was overcooked as well; however, the flavor was excellent. I would order that dish again as an entree. My tasting menu dessert and my wife's warm chocolate cake were both delicious. Every touch to both desserts were amazing. We only complained about the salad issue. Our server was nice and apologized. She said that the brussel sprouts will be on the salad the next time we order it, and that was it. I would have expected a manager to stop by for an apology or for the restaurant to offer to comp something. We ordered two glasses of champagne, the salad, a dessert, corkage of $20, two coffees, etc. Something beyond the server apology would have been appreciated. I have no desire to go back at this point, but if i were forced there for any reason, I would order the Lamb and make sure to get a dessert. read more

We stopped here prior to a Pirates' game for a quick bite to eat in the downstairs seating area. I work nearby and was told by co-workers that the food was great. Our waiter was very professional and attentive to our requests for a quick meal. Unfortunately most of the items were way too salty to be enjoyable. We had a mix of items, 3 off the tavern menu and 1 main course dish. The calamari appetizer featured decent quality squid with a light breading but all 3 of us thought they were too salty. I ordered mussels and again the quality of the mussels seemed good but the sauce was over loaded with salt. My husband ordered the chicken sandwich which he would have preferred with less salt but the worst offender for him were the fries. They were way too salty to eat and most of them were left on his plate. My daughter had the dinner halibut meal which for 34$ was fresh and seasoned with less salt but not really better than what you can cook at home with halibut from Costco. The service however was perfect and because we were rushed for time we did not send the salty dishes back. I guess I prefer establishments that are able to achieve outstanding taste with quality ingredients, fine herbs and a lot less salt. Customers can always add more salt at the table if they prefer. The atmosphere is nice. If I went back I would absolutely ask them to skip the salt! read more
