Short Rib French Dip (with side of ranch)

I came with a large group after a convention and we easily made a reservation, got served, and received our food. It seemed like everyone enjoyed their meals, just too expensive. There are several TVs playing sports/entertainment. Overall, great restaurant located in the Double Tree with friendly staff and tasty food.

The hotel and their parking totally frustrated and started me out with a sour mood. The restaurant and bar service made up for it. Staff was very friendly, drinks mixed nicely with a nice kick. I ordered a cobb salad. I asked for it in the to go container since i knew i would not finish it. I found it strange that my salad came with french fries on top... (insert blank stare) Not quite the healthy meal I was expecting but the salad was fresh, greens were tasty and toppings were otherwise exactly what i expected.

Good service. I have eaten here for breakfast and dinner a few times over the last couple of years. The Bigelow Grille is located inside the DoubleTree by Hilton Pittsburgh downtown it is a pretty solid dining option. This April (2024) I decided to do dinner. I ordered the PGH Steak Sandwich which was super filling and tasty. I ordered a side of ranch for my fries and it was perfect. The offer Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and of course are open for Happy Hour. Dine inside or there is a Patio that is opened seasonally. You can check out their website at www.thebigelowgrille.com

After staying a night in the DoubleTree in Downtown Pittsburgh, I came here for breakfast, as it's in the DoubleTree. Service was great! They have a nice breakfast menu, offering the typical (boring!) breakfast items, as well as interesting items, like their omelet, but their breakfast sandwich was outstanding! Looked beautiful and tasted great. Potatoes were nicely done too. I enjoyed my visit for breakfast.... But according to previous review, your mileage may vary!

Nice place for a bite before the pens game. Close to the stadium. They had this nice deal going for us.

I feel like hotel restaurants can either be a hit or a miss & Bigelow Grille is definitely a HIT! If you've never been, it's inside of the DoubleTree Hotel. You can valet park with the hotel & it's free if you're only dining (there are hourly/overnight charges for hotel guests). They are open 7 days a week for breakfast, lunch & dinner (hard to find that in downtown restaurants)! I went for lunch and had the Spiced Tempura Gulf Shrimp to start. It was soooo good - it was lightly batter & fried perfectly. The tiger sauce on it was delicious. I also had the Bigelow Burger which is awesome - not many other burgers like this one. The "not so secret sauce" is the perfect addition. The fries were crispy & it was a generous portion. Our server, Irina, was amazing - very attentive & gave us great recommendations on the menu. Bigelow Grille also has a daily happy hour menu & they're a 5 minute walk to PPG Paints Arena so it's a great spot before a concert or game. Loved my experience and will definitely be back!

My experience here was legit. According to our waitress (Courtney) she commented they recently opened about a month ago. The place was super empty! 3-4 guys by the bar tops! We knew what we wanted and my friend had a plain burger and I had the B.E.L.T. Everything was delicious. I had a side order of a salad but my friend said his fries were delicious. They give a lot of fries. Well we liked it so much, we came back the same night and I mind you Courtney was an amazing host and waitress. She did everything!! Just like most of the food industry, workers are seldom these days. Thanks Pandemic! But Courtney was on POINT! Give her a raise! We came back with a bigger group. We ordered wings! The lemon pepper wings were great! The Buffalo were super spicy! However I will say their advertisement of the wings being jumbo is a lie, and they only give 6 wings, plus it's like $12, absolutely not $12 worth. Yet we did have the fried chicken sandwiches around the table. That was extremely good with their fries. I know the reviews are not great but my experience was great. One last thing- parking is hard to find and it's a part of the Double Tree.

Nice place, if somewhat confused modern decor. Very nice waiter, and the Muzak was classic rock n roll low enough that we could easily converse in normal voices. All the food was decent Americana: fried chicken sandwich with bacon and tasty fries, scallops with grilled lettuce, savory duck, and rib eye with Brussels slaw. The cocktails looked tempting, but we didn't partake that night. Note bene to anyone with mobility, bladder, or bowel issues, there is no restroom in the restaurant itself. It is across the restaurant lobby (no stairs, just ramps).

Woke this am to the Pirates winning last night, so we were hungry and ready for today's game!! Had 'brekfes' as I call it, lol. I ordered the oatmeal with brûlée bananas, and golden raisins which was pretty good. My bf had the brekfes sandbitch lol. It came with the home fries that were bland. Not the cleanest place but it filled me and him up for the next few hours. Again, this place is clearly understaffed, but our waitress was friendly and attentive. We were in and out in an hour, watched the 3 TVs which was great. We saw the Pirates highlights from the game last night and are excited to explore the city today!

We came here for the Pierogis! They don't mention it in the menu but you have a choice of Pierogis for a side. We immediate got seated with chill water to start us off. Order: * Fried Chicken sandwich with pierogis which were amazing. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. It had crispy bacon, lettuce and tomato. The Pierogis were cooked to perfection with a dash of sour cream. * Mac & Cheese was yummy. It came with fried tomatoes, bacon bits and bread crumbs. Tasty! * Bigelow Burger with Pierogis was delicious. Can't go wrong with a burger. Overall we enjoyed our meal. The service was ok. Oh and don't forget to ask about the specials! We'd come here again.

LOVED our dinner at this place…read more We came here for dinner while visiting Pittsburgh. The first thing that struck me was the interior decor. Very industrial and moody with an open kitchen/preparation area that adds some intrigue. I do like to see the happenings of what's going on as someone with zero attention span. Service was excellent. George was fantastic. He kept a close eye on us without being overbearing. He anticipated what we might need so we didn't spend one second waiting to order anything. The menu is not endless or overwhelming which, presumably, allows them to focus on the items that are listed. I have decision panic so it was kinda nice to have less things to choose from. They asked if there were any allergies or dietary restrictions so I mentioned my vegetarianism. George went through the menu and pointed out the vegetarian options including what seems like it is vegetarian but isn't. They had TWO vegetarian entree options and fortunately the non-mushroom one was something I probably would have ordered anyway: pesto with walnuts, arugula, and a very generous amount of grated cheese. To start, I ordered the Brussels sprouts whichc I was warned had fish sauce. This was fine but nothing that blew me away. GF, on the other hand, loved this. GF ordered the wedge which was brought to our attention as vegetarian with the bacon on the side, which was her request. We ended up sharing both, a large part of that was because hers came out first and I couldn't wait but I'm so glad because the wege was FANTASTIC. The dressing? holy fuck pure ecastasy. The wedge was more like a filet shape which was much easier to eat. Who decided on the wedge shape anyway? The lettuce was so fresh and crisp and went wonderfully with that orgasmic dressing and breadcrumbs. Back to my pasta. Also delectable. Noodles were al dente. The sauce was creamy and packed that pesto umami flavor. The walnuts were a really nice contrast in texture. Everything about it absolutely fucking slapped. GF ordered the mushroom entree which came served on a bed of barley which, don't mind if I do, had a few forkfuls to "sample" for "my review". Again, so fucking good. Because it was my birthday, George provided a dessert (yuzu maybe?) that was served inside a meringue-esque igloo, creamy perfect balance of sweet and tart custard with some berry business underneath. Wonderful. I almost forgot their spectacular cocktails! Holy shit, literally they have a CORN CHIP cocktail that I could not pass up. It comes with two massive cornchips on top of a flavored foam. When you bring the glass up to sip, the cornchips are right in front of your nose and their aroma sets the stage for the drink which was STRONG. It wasn't as corn chip forward as I expected but I understand that flavor is probaly hard to create. For my second drink, I ordered the blue one which was refreshing, light, and really good. GF ordered a spritz which was gorgeous "it was good". For second round, I picked out some uranium thing that was very cucumbery, GF says, "it was good". I just read it outloud to her. "it's true!" Fantastic meal at a great place.

We celebrated our 10yr anniversary here for dinner & it was definitely worth it. Unblemished ambiance & service. We were at the restaurant side- very chic & intimate. They have a casual tavern area along the bar on the other side. And an upstairs section. When you look up, there's an entire wall of huge wine selection. For cocktails we had the Cosmopolitan & Strawberry Smash-- both prepared great! Cosmos are usually a hit/miss situation for me; this was really good though- not too tart nor sweet-- very well balanced w/ a mild hint of vodka coming through, which after a few sips hits you in a nice, soft way. Husb said the Strawberry Smash was bangin!!-- the sibona amaro in it stabilized the fruitiness of the drink. For apps, we ordered the Calamari- it was soooo good & crispy/crunchy, I had to prevent myself from stuffing everything in my mouth! I was a bit sad I had to share this w/ my husb lol. It came with a hot & sour sauce w/ lemon which overall made the dish unique. For entree, I had the Scottish Salmon, came w/ scallops & I added crab cake to it. Succulent salmon was seared w/ great flavor, the sweet corn & pepper mixed in a tomato vinaigrette on the side under the scallops was just unbelievable. The crab cake was cut squared, hands down one of the best cakes. The flavor profile for the entire dish together in a bite was incomparable!! Definitely order this. Husb ordered the Gerber Farms Chicken, amish chicken served w/ risotto, greens on top of thyme jus (akin to a thin gravy). The chicken was cooked well-- juicy on the inside & a nice roast on the outside; the risotto wasnt heavy & didn't weigh the meal down, the thyme jus's flavor was subtle & it elevated the entire dish. For dessert, we got the Chocolate Hazelnut tart & Eleven Candy bar. I legit relished & inhaled the tart despite already being so full. Husb loved the Candy bar. A huge slice of brownie/caramel candy bar w/ chocolate mousse phew! The pics explain how mindblowin' everything was! A real one-of-a kind experience. Ron was great in explaining everything too. Taxes they add to the bill: sales, alcohol & Allegheny tax which raises the end charge. A toast to the chefs & Mixologists here.

My experiences have not been high-end, perhaps more "tinfoil" than sapphire, to say the least....see below. That being said, it's proven to be a very middling experience each time, especially from a service standpoint. Each time has had mysterious delayed times to get waited upon, receive food and drinks, and every time has featured a mysterious disappearing item that we had to politely "remind" the server about after receiving the bill. On this occasion, we were offered to still receive a missing drink even though it was incredibly clear that we were ready to leave. One time, sure, but all three visits have had issues. This time, when the final bill was corrected, the math didn't seem to make sense - removing a $14 drink and the total came out $5 less. I'm being candid in saying instead of even dealing with the server once more, their tip corrected the discrepancy - no issues in dealing with the situation in that manner, given the sub-par service. Unacceptable and frustrating to have 3/3 times experiencing significant service issues. Food-wise, it's a solid "4" rating - salads have all been great, the dishes we'd recommend are the black cod and the short ribs. Good selection of semi-local beer and extensive wine list. It was noted that the menu had "changed" with the season, but the overall menu was 80% the same with some very subtle modifications - all over a two-year period. First time we went here, we sat at the tables above the bar area, and unfortunately there was a very bar-like smell that could be experienced throughout the meal (imagine having fine dining at the Rock Room on Polish Hill) - thankfully these other two times have been in the main dining area, on nights that haven't been very busy (adding to the frustration regarding the service notes above). Honestly, this is a legacy restaurant here in Pittsburgh, it's a shame that newer places with great food + service have a hard time launching in this environment.
