Stopped in to cool off after walking Boston on a very warm summer afternoon. Sat at the bar. There were about six beers on tap. One food menu was available in a wooden box by a pillar on the bar. Nothing really caught my eye. My SO ordered a local draft and I went for a water and coffee. Although they make adult coffee drinks, they do not offer espresso drinks. The interior is upscale casual. Plaid carpet, a mix of booth and table seating. Dining areas are on two levels behind a staircase down to the restrooms. Dining is also available in the bar area. The menu includes British fare and other more local items. I find a British themed restaurant, in Boston where Patriots plotted rebellion, a bit humerous. None the less, it is a comfortable spot for a meal, snack or drink. read more

Let's start with the service. The waitress was attentive and good humored. The cocktails were okay. Probably should have stuck to Guinness in a pub but live and learn..... I would avoid the coconut lychee margarita though. Those flavors combine to give it an aftertaste similar to disinfectant. The food was okay but nothing special. Wings were a little over cooked. Fish was a little undercooked (big piece of fish for fish and chips and the batter was still pretty soft inside.) Chips were good though. Pretzel bites I would probably avoid as well. This is the cutest pub. Went for dinner and drinks, and for a college student the prices were right. The music was great, had a mix of early 2000's songs we were jamming too. The ambiance was the main reason to come here. The French Onion soup was so delicious, and the portions were quite large. We also orders the chicken pot pie which had such a flakey crust and smooth creamy filling. Exactly what I needed. The service was a bit slow, but at the time the restaurant was crowded. read more

Went on Friday evening for drinks and there was no problem. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful. Now the bad. We were staying at the hotel connected to the restaurant so decided to try it for breakfast. That was a big mistake. We waited for at least 20 minutes for anyone to even say a word to us. Then asking for water and extra cream was an endeavor. No utensils until we requested. The only reason we stayed is that the bartender actually came over and kept an eye on us and helped us while the waiters never even bothered saying a word to us. We came here for lunch on a Saturday with a group of 8, which can be challenging during a busy time. The Elephant and Castle treated us wonderfully and we will definitely return. Our waiter had a delightful Irish accent and was attentive, helpful, and allowed some of the guests to get special requests. The food was amazing. Several people got the mini-pie medley in which they got a small chicken pot pie, shepherds pie, steak and mushroom pie, and leek and potato pie. Every raved about how delicious the pies were, and loved getting the variety. The fish and chips was cooked perfectly and there was a lot of food. The Baja fish tacos were also cooked and spiced nicely. Everything was clean, including the bathrooms, and we thought the decor was quite classy in an English pub format. Great option for a Friday night dinner in Downtown Boston-- it's your classic Irish Pub. You get what you expect. My roommate and I came as a party of two and we're seated right away. The staff was very friendly, and was able to accommodate us when we wanted to move to another section of the restaurant. We started off with virgin mocktails- which were delightful! The drinks here are great. I opted for the strawberry mojito mocktail, and my roommate got the yellow ginger beer mocktail. Both excellent. I really liked the minty taste paired with the strawberry. For food we got fried pickles to start, I ordered the Chicken Caesar wrap and my roommate got a big salad. The food was standard, I liked the steak fries which came with my wrap and the wrap itself was pretty good though I would've gone heavier on the bacon and shaved parm. My roommate enjoyed her salad but it was a bit too overdressed. The fried pickles were good, but the waitress forgot about them so we got them after we got our main dishes. Shepherd's pie - wasn't a huge fan of the mashed potato on top but the flavor and texture was good. Chicken pot pie - creamy and flavorful but the chicken was very dry. Steak & mushroom pie - tasted like A1 sauce and really couldn't taste anything else because it was so strong. The mushroom was good but barely tasted any of the steak. I was staying nearby and came in late from a flight, I didn't have high expectations, but the Elephant & Castle restaurant delivered exactly what I needed, which was some delicious food! The service was great, and the ambiance was pretty cool too. 4/5 - Hummus: the hummus appetizer comes with a vinaigrette on top, which I thought was an interesting choice since it's a little sweet, but it actually paired really well with the bell peppers and cucumbers. The naan (instead of peta bread) is also a bit salty, so the balsamic part pairs nicely with that too. 4/5 - Baja Fish Tacos: solid fish tacos, not the biggest pieces of fish, but the sauce that comes with this is amazing! I have been coming here off and on for at least 15 years, perhaps once or twice a year. It has never disappointed and somehow they manage to keep the prices reasonable. Two friends and I had dinner there last night, and including soft drinks and tax, our bill was about $60. We would have paid that at the "Golden Arches," with quality of service and food not to be compared. Our server was polite and attentive. Seating is ample and comfortable. The food itself is perfectly fine. It is pub food, but an interesting mix of options to suit different palates at a prices that seem from 5-10 years ago, even for dinner! So good! I really liked the English pub vibe. It took me back to when I studied abroad and would get a pint with my friends. All of the servers were wearing football jerseys. It was so cool inside. It's much bigger on the inside vs what you see on the outside and they have two entrances. Went here with a large group and the servers were so accommodating. We all ordered Guinness and they were great pours. For food I went with the wee pie flight and it was delicious. I recommend that if you can't decide what to order. Service is insanely slow which is fine by me when I'm there to kill time after work before the trains empty out but great selection of beers and the food is consistently good!! The pretzel bites were life changing, so very good. They had been brushed with some butter on the sliced bits which made them so yummy and the cheese having bacon added was a really nice touch. Being English, I was delighted to find out the hotel we stayed at next door had an English pub attached. However, this was dull. We ordered food at night, I ordered the recommended $15 Burger, and they asked me how I wanted it cooked... lol, it was about the same size meat patty as a McDonald's Hamburger (3mm thick) & then just thrown in a brioche Bun. Edible but wasn't that good. And for a $15 burger I expected more, at least a quarter pound patty, this was just weird and very bland. Next morning went down for breakfast and I joked with my friend saying "well they can't F#%* up and fry up". Well....they managed to do just that! Firstly the staff here were not that friendly. The place was empty and they wouldn't let us sit at a high top.... Made us move... (I joked are you expecting a rush?!) anyways we moved to another table. Then I plugged my phone charger & phone into the wall to charge the phone and a lady come rushing over and told me they don't allow that lol I thought she was joking, but she was deadly serious. I asked if she could plug it in behind the bar maybe.... She pulled a face and said they don't have "charging stations"... lol I was in awe, and said forget about it! Then sat back down and waited for our breakfast. Then this "English pub breakfast" shows up...(see pic) The sausage was not meat! It tasted like a veggie sausage mixed with cardboard. Texture was off... The staff couldn't tell us what the sausage was, and our waitress said "there was a shortage of pork in Boston" and that she was vegan. I joked and said she probably liked the sausages then lol....this sausage isn't meat or pork. It had very weird texture and was tasteless. (Imagine finely blended cardboard mixed with finely mashed ground beef) .... the Over easy eggs were ruined, Baked beans were these non appetizing weird kidney beans in some sauce, toast was rock hard, home potatoes were cold, with American bacon... (bacon was the best part) amazing really because there's a "pork shortage" lol. Worst breakfast I've had in years. All in all wasn't good, won't be back. Best thing about the place was the British phone box in the entrance, Apart from that, this is Nothing English about this pub. Not a good experience. And that's a shame. read more

Pick up order failure! I placed my order at 11:44 am, to be picked up at 12:30 pm. I arrived at the restaurant at 12:50pm, the hostess told me that my order was not ready and that I needed to wait for 5 minutes or more. Soon, a manager came with "my order", for which I was grateful until I went back to my office and opened the container. This was not my order. They put together three little pieces of chicken, some vegetables( Onions, zucchini and peppers) and mash potatos with MORE onions - I hate onions. My order was Jameson Chicken, with sweet potato fries and carrots!!! There's not supposed to be any onions! We all know that it is "normal " to have issues with pick up orders, but not to have all the issues in just one order. read more

Went here because we went to the one in Dublin and had a great experience. After ordering our drinks and some waters, it was a 31 minutes wait until the beers arrived (more on the water later). Apparently we ordered the 14.5 ounce pints because they were definitely not filled to the top. Waitress seemed uninterested as we asked for waters again when the beers arrived and then 25 minutes later when our food arrived. Waters never showed up. Food was unimpressive. First and last visit. Well - I enjoyed my drink, the general vibe, and the poutine. Prices are reasonable. But I don't know if I recommend this place or not. This is the second time I was here, and found the service to be pretty inattentive. Great way to take a short trip to the UK while still visiting Boston. Soccer matches on all the televisions and ice cold beer at the taps. My favorite is smithwicks and they always have it available. It was fine until our food came, we needed refills but our waiter never once came back to check on us. A nice Irish restaurant/bar off Devonshire. This place gets busy during the week with all the business travelers. There are a lot of get-togethers and meet-ups after work here. It's not far from everything so its a great location tucked away. When you walk off the street it appears dark but the mood and crowd aren't. It's a clean restaurant/bar. Bathrooms are downstairs and they are definitely tended to as they were clean. That is something women can appreciate. There is another entrance from the hotel Club Quarters. This a chill spot came to Boston to visit for a week. I'm from the west coast so this place felt good to me. Atmosphere is straight chillen got that Irish Ireland look inside like a real pub. Can't comment much on the food although I had the sausages fried in croissant batter which where really good so food made me happy. The waiters are nice they treated me very well.
