I really enjoyed my lunch at El Segundo. I tried the spicy margarita with chips and salsa, guacamole, and queso to start. All of which were great. Then I had the sticky rice bowl with Korean wagyu beef. It was more of an Asian dish than Mexican but I loved it. Not awful not really good - stale chips , guac was decent though - tacos ok, but pretty bland. Fajitas were also bland and not great but it was good cuts of meat. The location is fantastic, in both winter and summer. It's right off Gore Creek so if you're visiting in the summer and sit outside, you can enjoy the sounds of the water. I had high hopes for El Segundo after visiting the owners' other restaurant Mountauk (five star review coming soon for that one). El Segundo feels like it wants to be the "hot spot" its website proclaims it to be more than it wants to be a great restaurant. I'm sure it's a big party place during ski season, or busier weeks than the one we visited in during the dead period between skiing and summer mountain access starting. Our server was really bad, so that didn't help. I will say that a different server named Michael attending to the two tables surrounding ours seemed like he was awesome, so we just sat there wishing he was handling our table. Food-wise, I love spicy food, but the Spicy Tuna Ceviche was spicy to the point that it was difficult to taste the tuna. It was absolutely drowned in their sauce. We also had the chicken bowl and a burrito. They were nothing to write home about; a bit over cooked and dry on the chicken side, not really anything to differentiate the meal from any other average tex-mex restaurant. Drinks were also hit or miss; had a great mezcal margarita, had a regular one as well that tasted like it was completely mix. They do have a wide variety of tequilas and some mezcals so if you're doing straight up or on the rocks, you won't be disappointed. read more

Amazing food!! We dined here for the first time and are kicking ourselves for not dining here sooner! The food was phenomenal! We had the ahi poi tacos, chorizo queso, Korean bbq taco, double decker ground beef taco, Philly cheesesteak taco, chicken taco, carne asada burrito and seasoned fries. Even the refried beans were delicious! The Korean bbq taco is a must!! Service was great. Food came out promptly. It was a Saturday night and a bit crowded so it was loud. We would probably skip the chorizo queso next time only because it was so much food for 3 people - lol!! read more

Wow! What an awesome restaurant. We have been coming to Vail several times a year for 8 years and only visited El Segundo on this most recent visit, and boy are we mad we haven't come sooner. This is now our favorite spot in all of the mountains. The food is freaking DELICIOUS! They have some Asian fusion along with the Mexican staples and they nail every ingredient and combination on the menu. The Korean BBQ taco is amazing, the carnitas burrito is top notch, the fajitas are massive and delicious, and both bowls are unique and amazing. Every single thing that we ordered was simply massive portions, which in Vail is far from the norm. If you get the nachos make sure to have 3+ people because those things are huge. Everything on the menu is well worth the price. The service is really good with friendly and helpful staff. We came with our newborn and they bent over backwards to make sure we were set up so that we were comfortable. The ambiance was really cool too with a fun bar, great lighting and a perfect location on the creek. Wow is all I can say about this little restaurant. I will first say if you are here you must get the chips, salsa and cheese dip. I have never had such delicious needs dip (in picture) it was so creamy. My fiancé and I ordered a few different tacos to try. The tuna tacos had a nice Asian kick to them. This is such a good restaurant. The tacos only come with 1 taco though and they are roughly $9 a piece. However this really filled us up. I was skeptical that we would still be hungry after we ate. The inside was an upscale Mexican type joint. Much different than the ones I'm familiar with back home. The service was very fast. Try this place out! I wasn't expecting to find good Mexican food in Vail, but El Segundo came highly recommended by a local friend so I had to try it. The decor is very cool with a modern dia de los muertos theme. The food is not authentic, but Mexican fusion. I didn't care because it was very good! The yardbird taco was my favorite with queso Blanco and marinated chicken. But shoot the other tacos were very close competition. The nachos are huge and seem to be the most popular as almost every table ordered them. And can you really go wrong with a Margarita after a long day of hiking? The drink names are so fun like "damn it feels good to be a gangster" (a $40 margarita made with Don Julio 1942) or "friend of the devil" (a cucumber margarita). I would definitely recommend coming here for some good vibes, good food, and good drinks. read more

Had lunch at El Segundo during Vail Octoberfest. Lucked out and got a table on the patio, which was amazing on such a beautiful day! Margaritas were excellent and can't beat $4 Modello 16 oz cans. First off, the chips and salsa are a must! The salsa is homemade and so delicious. Just the right amount of spice and so flavorful. The tacos were quite good. After asking our server which ones he recommends, we settled on the Carnitas, Korean, and Carne Asada w/ truffle. The winner was the carnitas...very tender and flavorful followed by the Korean, which was a close second. The korean beef was so tender and juicy plus the chili sauce added a nice kick to it. We were not thrilled with the carne asada. The beef was tender, but I think the dish lost focus as the truffle and aioli didn't compliment the beef. Obsessed with this place! We love the Korean BBQ taco, it is the perfect amount of flavor and spice! The Greek Taco also knocks it out of the park with the perfect mixture of flavors! The Spicy Tuna Ceviche is also an absolute must! The Mahi Mahi Taco was prob my least favorite of the stuff we tried, but also good, just not as memorable as the rest! I tried one of their bowls last time we visited and they are also super yummy and very filling! We sat outside overlooking the river and sipped on Tequila. Honestly, I wanted to like this restaurant. The view is beautiful over the river. That being said, the service was terrible. I was eating with three people and two of them ordered one taco, and I ordered fajitas. They food runner brings the two tacos on the same plate, and the chicken fajitas were raw. We tell the waiter and he's like "oh they served both tacos on the same plate". Jokingly, my friend goes "I don't want to eat off her plate" . Then and only then does the waiter say want another plate? lol... really? They were so unapologetic. It was very clear they didn't care... the fajitas, came back cooked, and we got a second plate... but after how long? I honestly, would never recommend this place. I liked it, but I can't say it lived up to the haughty talk we received from some of the locals. They do have unique options and I'd love to try more of the menu, but for this time we tried the following *Ahi Poke taco - This was the best we tried, it was smaller in size, but amazing none the less. I loved the flavor, and crunch of the fried taco shell. SO GOOD. *Hot Korean taco - This taco was good. It does have spice to it though so beware if you don't like hot things. *Southern Chicken taco - This taco was ok. I've had chicken wraps that taste much better, so maybe taking a second look at what sauce to pair with the chicken could upgrade this. Nothing special I wouldn't get it again. *QuesoBirria taco - Headed in the right direction, but didn't quite pack the punch of flavor I desired. Going back I might give this a second try, but wouldn't be excited.. We came in right when they opened, maybe that pist them off because the woman helping us did not seem interested in the slightest. The food was very American Mexican, not a whole lot of spice or flavor. Ordered chips and salsa, a burrito and a taco. Came in as a walk in on a Monday and was told that the wait time was an hour- no problem- the bar is first come first serve, so we put our name in and got a seat at the bar. While we were there, we decided to just make a to-go order from the bar. For 2 bowls, it took an ENTIRE HOUR to make and our table was ready before we even got our food. It was only after we asked about our order, that we got our food. This restaurant is incredibly overpriced too- $23 for a bowl that tastes like Chipotle and gives you less food. When we got it in our to go boxes, the food looked sloppy, was cold and disappointing. I don't ever plan on coming back and I'll let anyone coming to Vail know that this place is NOT worth their time. In a town as upscale as Vail, I'd be surprised if this place lasts. read more

You must go here! We loved El Segundo and would go back again in a heartbeat! Our hotel made us a reservation here and we were so glad they did. The customer service was absolutely phenomenal. Our waiter was kind and extremely knowledgeable, even bringing us an extra side of avocado when our spicy tuna ceviche did not have as much as we would've liked. We ordered the chips and salsa with several refills. It was great and my warning is that the salsa is spicy.
