Very good. Not too many Argentine restaurants around so it's always nice when you find a delicious one. Great service. Friendly staff. The milanesa is a must have among the many other delicious treats. Flan was okay. The crepes with dulce de leche were amazing. The espresso was very smooth. They have a couple of vegetarian options but keep in mind the culture is known for the beef and the wine. Highly recommend this place if you like Italian food or beef and wine. read more

I really hate giving bad reviews to independent mom-and-pops, but this was so disappointing I feel that I have to provide a review for other diners who may need to consider other menu options. Restaurant itself is fine--a small, intimate, cozy setting in a strip of restaurants and stores in downtown Glendale which is surprising in itself that it would be as cozy as it is. The good: Empanadas ($3.50 each) were fantastic with 8 choices from which to choose. The mustard-based potato salad was outstanding. Pizza ($18) with ham and olives was actually good--not the best I have had of course since this isn't a pizza or Italian restaurant, but good. The bad: Roasted potatoes were bland and flavorless. Mashed potatoes were just ok. The ugly: The experience goes off the rails however with the steak--which is supposed to be the cornerstone of Argentinian restaurants. I have eaten at Argentinian steakhouses all over the world and this was by far the worst Argentinian steak experience I have had, and certainly the worst $29 steak I have ever had, period. The churrasco steak was flavorless and the chimichurri did not help. The $24 beef short ribs were not much better. Both cuts of meat were chewy and flavorless. We wanted to go to Porto's, but the lines were so long. This place was just opening for the day so we thought we'd give it a try. It seems like a small family-owned business, so why not!?! We got the lasagna (my go to whenever it is on the menu). It was different than the usual ones I've tried. Not bad, just different; not sure I would get it again. We also got a sausage and pepperoni pizza to share. It was good and warmed up well at home. They give you some warm bread (which was a bit dry) with their homemade chimichurri sauce. This place is over priced and have a bad costumer service. Went with my husband and daughter for lunch, noticed only 2 tables were occupied and thought we would get our order quick but we could finally order our drinks after good 20 minutes. I saw the waitresses standing behind the register just talking and ignoring us. My husband and I ordered milanesa a caballo with mashed potatoes at the ridiculous price of 19.99 each plate, I was expecting a good portion since the plate is almost 20 dollars and We only got a very small piece of meat and literally 2 spoons of mashed potatoes. My daughter ordered 2 empanadas ( very dry and small for my taste) for 3 dlrs each, waitress never refilled our drinks and never told us about the special they had that day ( another waitress asked me if the person who took our order had told us about the special and I answered NO) I hope the owner reads all the reviews posted here and makes changes before nobody visit his place again, I know Glendale is expensive but their prices are ridiculous and food miserably I rather go to the valley for Argentinian food. read more

Every once in a while serendipity offers one a great pleasure. My son and I were headed for one of our favorite restaurants only to find it closed for lunch. I spotted El Morfi across the street and we decided to give it a try. We were greeted warmly and shown to a table. I should mention that the place was deserted, and after one of the best meals I've had in a long time, I have to wonder what is wrong with people. The food is absolute perfection without fussiness or gimmickry. We ordered one of the specials, a fish ala Milanesa that was generous, light, beautifully and delicately spiced, served with delicately perfumed rice and salad. The fry was textbook, crisp and light. We added a selection of their empanadas, each one a delight to the palate, accompanied by a chimichurri to rule all chimichurries, a chimichurri I would be happy to bathe in. I've had many a chimichurri and none of them combined the richness and piquancy of this chimichurri. And guess what? They offer their chimichurri for sale in jars! The food is great. By far the best thing on the menu is the sweet corn empanada - if you haven't had it, it is the best by far. If you like onions, a good choice is the cheese and onion empanada or the Fugazetta pizza, which are basically the same inside and out. However, their service is very slow. I have been coming here for at least 20 years. Went last night with the family, for dinner. It had been quite a while since I had been and I had never had the opportunity to go with the family. It's always been a work lunch spot for me. After eating the spicy beef and ham and cheese empanadas, my husband actually threw his napkin at me. He wanted to know why I hadn't shared this little gem of a place with him sooner. He must have said it 5 times during the course of our meal. The kids talked about dinner all the way home. We all loved the empanadas so much, we ordered more! We also got the calamari, which was perfectly cooked and just delicious. I had the antipasto salad and we ordered two pizzas...all devoured. The sangria is so good too! I love their calzone for lunch. Skirt steak is also fabulous! The staff is super friendly and attentive. Now I am dying to go back for a date night and paella! Especially during these difficult times, it's so important to support small local businesses. El Morfi is worth every penny! We also split some empanadas (because how could we not?) and topped off the meal by splitting a flan con dulce de leche. I wanted try the empanadas out, and I'm glad I did. The spicy beef empanada was great! I loved the flavor and spice. The dough was crispy and delicious. Also had the chicken empanada. This was also crazy good. I have to agree with many others on the service. When I walked in, it took two minutes for someone to greet me and take me to a table. I then waited close to 6 minutes for a server to bring me water and take my order. I like to course when I order. I didn't want to take that route here because I could tell the service was slow. So I ordered my full meal together. I expected service to be quicker because I only observed 4 tables total in the dining room. Service was not terrible for the rest of the meal but not attentive. I asked for recommendations. I ended up getting the chicken parmesan. It wasn't the best I've ever had, but it wasn't bad. I enjoyed the crispy breading of the chicken and melted cheese. I would have liked a little more basil. The noodles were cooked right and had a good coating of sauce. The real hit for me was the empanada. I would go back for take out. Mashed potatoes are buttery and garlicky. The pollo a la parrilla was delicious and big enough for two people who have a small appetite. The empanadas are traditional with beef slices and olives. I spent 6 weeks in Argentina last summer and my favorite thing about that country is the food. I was excited to find out that there was an Argentinian place so close to my new residence in Glendale. My bf and I came here on a Friday night. We ordered the parillada for 2 people and it came w/4 different meats...so delicious!! Argentinian cuisine usually isn't prepared w/spices or a lot of flavor because they are super healthy and don't use any kind of preservatives. What I appreciated at this place was that they added a little bit of spice and seasoning which made the food THAT MUCH BETTER! The staff here were friendly and told me that the family takes a lot of pride in keeping up the Argentinian food tradition. The best part is that they have Quilmes-the Argentinian national beer which is also so delicious!!! Came in here on a wednesday night so idk how busy this place usually is. but it was pretty calm. Both the waiter and the host were so helpful with reccomendations and service. The food was pretty good too, we shared some calamari, and a plate of lasagne. Both were yummy :) I really can't speak for the Argentinian food, as we didn't try it, but the chimichurri that they brought out with warm bread was pretty amazing (and i HATE cilantro). All in all, the main reason we walked out happy & wanting to return was the truly excellent service. Our warm bread and chimichurri was refilled before we had even finished the last slice=attentive waiting. Also, we were still there a little past the time they were closed, and while most other small restaurants will begin cleaning and making a ton of kitchen noise (which I understand because I know the feeling of wanting to leave work ASAP), the crew of El Morfi was sooo polite and kept the lighting the same, with the music on, and the background noise to a minimum. When I finally ditched ten years of vegetarianism, I quickly became a fan or Argentine food. I mean, I always loved meat. And Argentines are known for making avid carnivores very happy. Anyhow. El Morfi is a little Argentine restaurant in Glendale. It has a very unassuming facade; you can easily miss it driving down Brand. However, keep your eye open, the food is well worth it. El Morfi has a typical range of Argentine food: emapanadas, milanesa, grilled steak, morcilla, and a variety of Argentine-Italian style dishes.All food is additionally served with fresh bread and chimichurri sauce. The empanadas are generously sized and three or four could easily make a nice light lunch with a glass of wine or soda. I've tried the chicken and the beef, both of which were excellent: well-flavored and a moist, flaky crust. The first time I went with my partner, we had the grill for two, which included grilled skirt steak, morcilla (blood sausage), ribs and a variety of organ meats. The ribs and steak were cooked to order (medium-rare in this case) and were very tasty. Even though blood sausage is not exactly my thing, I have to admit that it was well-seasoned and flavorful. Most recently I ordered the milanesa, which was HUGE. It nearly hung off the platter. It was served with lemon slices and Provencal fries. The milanesa was both tasty and very filling; the lemons added a welcome acidity. The fries were excellent, nicely garlic-y and plentiful. Comfort food at its best. I would definitely come here again. The only real drawback to this restaurant is the location and the underwhelming atmosphere. The food, however, make up for it. read more

El Morfi apparently defines as "The perfect dining experience." Unfortunately it wasn't. The empanadas here are delicious though. They're baked exceptionally well -- crisp, flaky & and not dough heavy. There are a few varieties to choose from. Chicken, beef, corn, spinach, onion & cheese, ham & cheese and jalapeno & cheese. My favorite was the ham & cheese. They're $1.90 each, but if you take some to go they make it out to $1.30 each. I also had a chance to try the "Pechuga a la Parilla" which is grilled tender breast marinated with olive oil, garlic and parsley. It's served with steamed vegetables and mashed potatoes. The chicken might have been a little overcooked. Not to mention bland. Hopefully it was just a one time mishap. I wouldn't order it again just to stay on the safe side. A major inconvenience at this place was the slow service. From beginning to end our waiter took forever to get to our table. We waited about 10 minutes just to order. It wasn't even busy! The food took its time to get to our table as well. By the time our entrees arrived, we had already helped ourselves to a plentiful amount of bread & empanadas. Neither one of us managed to finish our main dish due to being full from appetizers. Oh and to top it off, we actually had to flag our waiter down just to get our check. I don't know what the lunch experience is like, but dinner here is a let down. Don't get me wrong, the employees are nice and I love friendly customer service, but it's hardly customer service when you can't even stop by to provide any. Good place to check out if you need a "bife" fix. The hanger steak is delicious, the rest of the stuff just OK: the salad is really generic and the garlic potatoes were dry as dust. Mushrooms appetizer is OK, and the bread and chimichurri are delicious. Long,narrow room with a takeout counter in the front; the tvs are usually playing soccer matches. Amazing how a smile and upbeat service can change ones review. I went here for dinner last night and our waiter was welcoming and greeted us with a smile. The place was very busy - which was nice and unexpected to see on a Sunday evening. I got the NY and it was just what I wanted - a nice grilled piece of meat. It is not a very thick cut so if you like rare, order it rare. I went for MR and it was closer to M. I still have a mad crush on the Chimichurri and bread. The lighting is dim and bland enough to give you a headache. That's probably why our waitress was so rude. She just gestured at us where to sit and stormed off. We didn't think much of it at the time. When it was time to order she got the chicken pasta and I ordered the ravioli with a beer each. After some time we were waiting for our drinks. We saw the waitress standing there like a zombie staring into the abyss. In fairness it was probably the bad lighting that had an affect on her barely-present brain. She reluctantly served up our drinks. Then it was time to enjoy the main course. Or so we had hoped. The ravioli tasted like cardboard with salt, drowned in some nondescript damp sauce. My fiance's chicken tasted like rubber. Clearly they sell frozen after-market food to their customers. When we brought it to the attention to the waitress, in her defense she just belched "everyone loves our food and no one complains ever!" as if we were wrong not to like half-assed food. My family and I are regulars here. Came last week for my dad's birthday, party of 9. No problem getting the reservation for Friday at 7. Very accommodating, great service. Food: Their bread with chimichurri is always great. Make sure you don't get full before your actual meal (it's pretty addicting). Emapandas: spicy beef, ham & cheese, and corn are my favorite. I like coming for their gnocchi specials on the 29th. 14.99 for gnocchi, a side, drink, and flan if my memory is correct. In case you didn't know, it's tradition to eat gnocchi on the 29th.. I recommend the gnocchi with pink sauce. My favorite. Milanesas/Napolitanas are my second choice when I feel like taking it easy on my carbs intake. Big portions, but I'm sure you'll devour it in minutes. Their paella tends to be on the salty side. We usually ask for no added salt, and it's perfect. Their parrillada could be better... not something I'd recommend for someone craving Argentinean BBQ. Of course, the best asado is made at your own parrilla at home. read more
