This is one of the better Katy Mexican food establishments (along with Lupe Tortillas and Los Cucos). They have good salsa that is served warm and charro beans to dip the chips in. I especially like their enchilada verdes and beef fajitas. The menu is extensive with a wide selection of items. He was on top of his game! My chicken fajitas we alright the chicken could have used a little more flavor to them but they were served with all the fixing I liked! My husband got the El Jarrito jalapeño chicken fajitas and that was really good! I would order that the next time I go because it had more flavor than mine. Seemed like I ate here a little while back, so I decided to give it a try again today while I wait on my kiddo to get out of school. Sat on the patio since the weather is starting to to be a little more pleasant. First, no green sauce. "We only serve that on Fridays and Saturdays after 5pm." Seriously? WTH? I get seated, takes FOREVER to get a waiter... 2 of the staff members actually approached me and asked if I had been served at all yet... Finally get my waiter after another staff member got my chips and drink order, and this guy acts like my being there is a serious inconvenience to his life. Ordered Spinach Enchiladas. THEY. WERE. AWFUL. Bland. Just spinach wrapped in a tortilla with shredded cheese melted on top... some gross red sauce. Apparently everything comes with rice and beans EXCEPT this dish. Rice. (Which was also awful) No beans. Couldn't finish the meal it was so bad. Pros: the place at least looked nice, and SOME of the staff seemed accommodating. My family and I have been going here for years even when it first was in it's original location. The food here has always been awesome. The service took a hit when they moved from their original location to the newer location. Now it is mostly good service but every once in a while it lacks. The best thing they serve is fajitas or anything with fajitas in it. These are some of the most flavorable fajitas I have ever had. The margaritas are also good. There are tons of Mexican restaurants in the Katy area with food as good as El Jarrito but this is our favorite. They have an amazing patio that they manage to keep cool even on hot days, friendly service, and some other extras that make this place our top Mex dining choice in Katy. The tableside guacamole is a nice touch, decent margaritas come out fast and frequently, and the salsas are yummy too. One is a smoky tomato salsa served warm and the other is a homemade tasting warm whole bean that I love. Prices are not the least expensive in the area but not too bad and it can get annoyingly crowded during weekend dinner hours. Recommended dishes include carne guisada, enchiladas, ceviche and shrimp cocktail. A little too much cracked black pepper in the ceviche and the shrimp cocktail is a bit too sweet but they're still good. read more

The place looks very nice but the food was the very bad I asked for a a shrimp soup but it was more like a tomato soup that was it had tomatoes and more Tomatoes it had no taste whatsoever my girlfriend ask for a chicken salad what she got was a bunch of cheese with sour cream to be honest we didn't enjoy it we did not eat it at all. Good food. Service is very slow. You can wait 10-15 minutes many times before you get any service. Ordered an additional drink after paying the bill tonight. Waiter brought drink and bill for $7.75. I gave him a $20 bill. Never saw him again!!! The only reason we go here is it is close to house and the outside seating is far better than Jimmy Changa's or Lupe's. The food was awful. Quesadillas were soggy and my friends enchiladas were floating in grease. House margarita tasted like frozen lime-ade and did not taste ANY alcohol. I am a very light drinker and if I didn't feel it then there was't any alcohol in it! Service was adequate. Had to ask for the check even though the waiter passed our table almost a dozen times after we were finished eating. It's usually hit an miss. I can do without the dirty kids running in and out of the sand pit and around the tables. The overly enthusiastic "HELLO MY FRIEND" as we sat down was a little too phony and did not make up for the lack of service and food quality. Perhaps the other anglo suburbanites in Katy just like the atmosphere for their weekly bohemian outing so that they can pretend they are in Mexico and let the kids do what they please while they get drunk by paying for the more pricey drinks. Next time I will just drive into Alief and get real Mexican food. read more

By far the best Tex-Mex in Katy. Everything is done fresh and the quality is great! The rita's are really good and the service is also great. There is an outdoor eating area and a place for children to play. The Fajitas are the best in Katy. You will get your food fast so I recommend telling your server you are not ready to order and enjoy some chip time, unless you are wanting to get in and out. Came here for lunch today, left unimpressed. Sat, greeted and served drinks promptly. My wife ordered the cheese enchiladas with queso on top instead of the gravy. When the food came her enchiladas had a large hair on them. I showed our waiter and he brought out a new plate. The manager never came by and when we got the bill our server had charged us $1.50 for a queso add-on. The first time her enchiladas came out they were made with corn tortillas, the second time with flour. The taco shells were so soggy they fell apart in your hands. The margaritas were bitter and did not taste like they had any tequila in them. There are better Mexican restaurants in Katy for your money. read more

Great place to go for Tex-Mex food. We've been going there for years. Of course they have the typical mexican restaraunt theme with bright colors and Mariachi music. We typically go fairly early on a Saturday before it gets too busy. Before 6:00 p.m. is a pretty good time, around 7:00 you can expect to wait awhile for a table. We've been going there for so long that the entire staff knows us and the ownere usually comes up and talks to us for a while. The service is usually very quick. They have excellent fajitas, but they also have other selections that are excellent. Their smothered chicken breasts are out of this world. Their portions are huge and really more then 1 person can eat. We usually order a dinner and split it. If I had to pick the one thing I like the most about El Jarrito it's their Mango Margarita's. We came here early Friday evening trying to catch what they might have for Happy Hour. Not really that good of a menu on that. We ordered the Top Shelf Margaritas which were about $6. It was way too strong for my liking. Good if you want to get wasted but definitely not good if you're trying to enjoy a drink with your meal. Lady came by and asked if we wanted to order some fresh guac...reminded me of San Antonio...tableside prepared...they used white onions instead of red which left it a bit overwhelming in your mouth. Still not good as the one in San Antonio. I had the enchilada verdes and my husband had the chimichanga. Both were a good size portion. The chicken was nice and tender... I wasn't so thrilled about the tomatillo sauce... I felt it was very one dimensional. My husband thought his meal was meh. I love this place. They've kept many of the same staff over the years, and I can't remember any that weren't pleasant and friendly. I love that the money I've spent there can easily be seen being put back into the business as it grows. They are constantly updating and making a nicer establishment. The patrons who drink their margaritas eating free chips and ignoring their terribly misbehaved children (usually spoiled soccer moms) are the worst part, and their treatment of the staff is shocking, but I only bring this up as a compliment to the fortitude of the staff. They never stop smiling and trying to help. The food is the same as most tex mex around katy, but missing the stuffed avocado I love at those places. BUT, by keeping the menu simple, the food is usually out within minutes, seriously, 3 minutes, it's happened. We now ask them to take their time and it's still exceptionally quick. Price gouger el jarrito. We went to ej have lunch on 8/30/2017, a time when thousands of people in the Katy and Houston areas were reeling from the devastating effects by Hurricane Harvey. This was a time when most all Texans (and others) were pitching in to physically and financial help one another. Many restaurants were providing free food to help first responders and people in need. Not el jarrito!! ej cancelled their lower priced lunch menu and was instead enforcing their higher priced dinner menu. When asked why they were not serving the lunch menu during the lunch period, the waiter said because there was a shortage of food. I asked if their actions were like the unscrupulous retailers that charge outrageous prices for gas and water to desperate people, she said yes. This is clearly price gouging and is not only immoral, but also illegal. Ask the manger if this was what they were doing in the aftermath of Harvey the next time you go there. See if you think their actions were justified. AND by the way, not that it makes any difference in their behavior, there was no obvious shortage of food at that time. We were asked if we wanted to order a variety of different appetizers and the guacamole girl was making her rounds with her cart as well. Looking back, I wish we had got up and walked out. No we stayed and ate our big meal and took home our styrofoam box of leftovers. The more I thought about it, the more upsetting it became to me. Can you tell?
