If you want to experience a classic (and classy) steakhouse, El Gaucho is one of the best options in Seattle =) The atmosphere is perfect; dark, moody, quiet. The steaks are always phenomenal (and despite being quite adept at making a great steak at home, I'm reminded just why it makes sense to splurge and go out on occasion). Lastly, the service is incredible. They go above and beyond constantly. An example is it was my friend's bday and he had asked if they could make a (drink I never heard of). They were lacking one of the (esoteric) ingredients, but Spirits Captain (Simone Van Eeden) figured out how to make it, which required smoking lime juice (iirc). My friend was blown away at how perfect it came out (presented by it's crafter =) It's experiences like that that make a place worth the price! read more

As a member of the Revlers club we have tried both El Gauchos. We recently tried the new Seattle location for my upcoming birthday. The service is impeccable as always. The wait staff is on top of every detail. They are friendly, well informed and have great suggestions. We ordered 2 beef wellingtons ahead of time for a special meal. When we arrived we had rose petals on the table, signed birthday card and menus that said Happy Birthday on them. Great details. We started with the Wicked shrimp and table side Caesar salad. The shrimp is very spicy and very good. Just be prepared . The salad is prepared at your table with the story of how they make the ingredients and put the salad together. The salad is not to be skipped. For dinner we had two beef wellingtons, an 8oz filet mignon, and a 14oz New York strip. As sides we ordered the grilled street corn, table side baked potato (love the thought of someone fluffing your potato), and the scalloped potato's. Wellingtons were good for flavor and meet cut. The pastry was uncooked in most areas as it was not wrapped properly and the extra pastry was not cut off. Both steaks were great in cook and flavor. The fluffed baked potatoes were a hit as usual as was the street corn. The scalloped potatoes were sampled and left on the table. The flavor was lacking and no room was made for lackluster food. For dessert we shared the Madagascar vanilla ice cream and a creme brûlée. Both desserts were very good. The bill was around $600 with 2 beers a soda and a mocktail added in. Extras are the table garlic bread and the palate freshener plate they serve after the meal. It is made of fresh fruit, cheese and nuts. We will return to the Bellevue location and try their other restaurants. We would not recommend the Wellingtons nor the scalloped potatoes. read more

We went here for my birthday tonight. I was expecting so much from this place. Upon arrival the concierge was nice and acknowledged it was my birthday. We got seated quickly and our server got our drinks quickly. But once we placed our apps, the service began to decline. Service was slower and we did not get our food in a timely manner. We waited a lot. We had our reservation at 545pm and didn't get out until 8pm! The table next to us got way better service. More attentive and their server and manager came to their table and asked how their meal was. Our server only came once to ask about our meal. It took forever to order dessert. Our server never acknowledged we had to wait so long and she made my husband move his chair so they could place their side table to make the cherries jubilee. While I understand there wasn't much room. She shouldn't have asked my husband to move his chair if the show wasn't happening yet. My husband had to sit sideways next to another table for over 10 mins. What really pissed me off was I did not get a comped dessert for my birthday. I ordered a dessert but most restaurants still comp a birthday dessert. They should have deducted my share of $17 for the cherries jubilee. Plus they automatically add a 20% service charge. We did not get our monies worth. It sucks that we can't give what we think the service deserves. If they suck, we still have to pay that percentage. It's not gratuity anymore. Also they do not accept Visa gift cards if there isn't a chip. That's dumb, it's still money. I did not see them offer Apple Pay either. What if the chip doesn't work on a card. So what then? Then you are screwed! The food was good but not great for the price and for the service we got. Very disappointed. The duck fries use to be good but I feel the recipe has changed. Also I think it's tacky when they put one piece of steak on your plate with no sides cuz they insist on charging you a side dish. A side dish cost as much as an appetizer! We could have complained but that won't change anything. We vote with our feet. We won't be coming back here anymore. read more

We went to check out their Seattle restaurant week special. It was $65 per person for a 3 course meal- appetizer, main, and dessert. We ordered a couple additional appetizers to start, We got ahi tuna tartare, shrimp ravioli and calamari. Ahi tuna was delicious and paired very well with their fried wonton chips. I was hoping to like the shrimp ravioli more. The flavor was all there but raviolis were a bit undercooked and cold and that ruined the dish. For our 3 course meal, we both started with scallops for app, baseball sirloin for main, and got two different desserts. Scallops were very well cooked and paired very well with the sauce. Desserts were a bit of a miss. I got the crème brûlée and my brother got their espresso cheesecake. It wasn't the worst dessert I've had but also wasn't the best. I would love to come back to try their regular menu and maybe I'll like the dishes a little more. Overall, it was good but not great. read more

El Gaucho Seattle does a phenomenal job going above and beyond in every aspect imaginable. The live music and candlelit tables make for the coziest ambiance. Our server, Luca, was attentive and as friendly as possible. We ordered the calamari and brussel sprouts, both of which were fresh and delicious. We asked to try a couple red wines and ultimately chose a pinot noir that complimented our dinner fabulously. Towards the end of our meal, Luca had noticed we were slowing down on the wine and although the bottle we ordered had been decanted, he managed to pour it from the wide-mouthed decanter back into the original bottle so we could enjoy the rest at home. That's not an easy feat! For our main course, we had the 8oz filet mignon and the steak El Gaucho. Each were to die for! Both juicy and tender. The steak El Gaucho came with a lobster medallion, asparagus, and a delicious creamy sauce. Most of our dinner conversation was spent raving about how good everything tasted. When I needed to use the restroom, our server politely escorted me there and, of course, it was just as clean and pristine as the rest of the restaurant. This steakhouse has really earned it's prestigious reputation. Our dining experience here truly was a highlight of our trip to Seattle. As a Portland native I'm excited to try their location in the Benson Hotel, but I'll admit I can't imagine it topping our experience at El Gaucho Seattle. read more

The food and experience at El Gaucho is always great with the flaming sword and table side service, but this location left something to be desired. The 3 chairs in the entry that felt like we were waiting to be called into the principal's office. Being led through the front of the open kitchen was cool, but half the walkway was used as storage for extra chairs, so watch your step, it is a little narrow and you may catch your dress on one of the overturned chairs with the legs up. Every server is not for every restaurant. Our off brand Chris Farley server spent most of the time air juggling at other tables. Luckily the rest of the staff was on point. He was the equivalent of the lady at The Golden Corral refilling your soda. There is an automatic 20% gratuity applied to your total. We gave our server at the Tacoma El Gaucho an extra 20% because he was flawless. We both went to the restroom after the meal and Chris was waiting outside the restroom like he assumed a dine and dash. He informed by boyfriend that he couldn't find my $75 Reveler's club birthday credit, so he just used my boyfriend's $50 credit (which all expire by the end of August and we were there for a special occasion, so unlikely to have another special occasion in the next 45 days) Then set our bill on the table and never returned for the payment. We had to take the bill to the hostess to pay and on our way out, everyone told us good night and we could have just kept walking out the door. Nice enough guy, but not for this level of service. If you are celebrating, I definitely recommend this place. When I did the reservation online, I left a note that we're celebrating and I wanted a non alcoholic drink option. Upon our arrival, the hosts were great and we just needed to wait for couple minutes then they took us to our table. The table was so special, real petal roses and a birthday card from El Gaucho Team. Then we sat and got our menu. To my surprise, they even had printed our celebration on the menu, how nice is that. We ordered: - it was a bit tart and refreshing. For a mocktail or how they call it here zero-proof cocktail, this was pretty close to an actual cocktail taste. - squid ink dumplings: the dumplings were on the al dente side which is not my preference but it was good. The pork flavor just burst into mouth with a hint of shrimp. It was a good balance - tuna tartar: this was good but as someone who travel to Hawaii pretty often, the tuna did not hit as fresh but the ingredients that came with it (olive, pineapple...) saved it. - Steak El Gaucho: delightful. It was my favorite of all we ordered. The béarnaise (sauce that came with it) was just the perfect sauce for the dish. The meat was tender and it was just like butter in the mouth (as our server said) - Ribeye: if you like some fat in your steak then this is the one. This was good as well but once you take a bite of the el Gaucho steak, this was just fine. -mushroom risotto: very creamy and fulfilling -mashed potato: it was entertaining to see them prepare it next to you Great experience overall and definitely recommend the steak el Gaucho. read more

Another impromptu walk to El Gaucho, yet this one on New Year's Eve, led to a great meal at the bar. Our reservation at another place was handled poorly, and when we showed up, they were in chaos because several employees called in sick. We moved on, and took a chance at El Gaucho. It was a festive way to celebrate the beginning of a new year with martinis and steaks, in an elegant room with doting servers. Stacy and her compadre were behind the bar, making everyone feel great. My first visit to El Gaucho. It was absolutely delicious. Huge fan of the tableside service options. Flaming meats, (the steaks were amazing!) potato fluffed tableside and banana foster (the vanilla bean ice cream is divine) We also got the corn & Brussels. Free garlicky cheesy bread and after dinner cheese plate were nice. The Latta bottle of wine was so good! Our server gave great recommendations. Service was wonderful and the ambiance was lovely. Very expensive dinner but we left so happy & satisfied The forced 20% tip is interesting but our server deserves it. Our kids had a great time at their first high end restaurant. I've been here twice for special occassions. What I love: - the steak combo (can't remember the name) where it's steak for 2 and comes with sides cooked table side. Omgosh what a fantastic deal. Always cooked well and the flavors are fantastic. I always get this with my hubby. Highly recommend. - Customer Service is TOP notch here. Your water glass will ALWAYS be filled. everyone is extremely polite and accommodating. I had a complaint once and they immediately corrected it. - Their rewards program - if you sign up, you can points for your birthday and such and it makes the meal that much more worth it. I found giftcards at Costco that helped lower the price even more. - Complimentary cracker & fruit plate at the end of the meal. I never make it to dessert since the meal is always so filling but the little refreshing dessert plate always is a nice palette cleanser. The interior is suuuuper dark though. I do wish it was just a tad brighter in there. But it does create that old school steak house intimacy vibe. Impeccable perfection! This is everything you'd expect and hope for from a fine dining restaurant. My server was fantastic, engaging in personalized conversation, and everyone on the service staff was attentive to anticipating any dining necessity. The atmosphere is great - live piano music, dancing flames in the middle of the dining room, beautifully set tables, and an immaculately clean environment. Every dish was prepared with careful attention to detail and mix of ingredients. Mixed greens salad had the perfect amount of pecans, cranberries, and dressing to complement the fresh greens. Asparagus was cooked just right with a light sauce, just he way I like it. NY steak was cooked prefeclty with an amazing crust, juicy interior, and delicious seasoning. Fig preserves with the charcuterie plate was so good and the perfect complement to goat cheese. The sorbet was a remarkable balance of flavors, pear with a ribbon of contrasting raspberry, a well thought out conbination. Ok El Gaucho, you done DID IT!!! You done DID ITTTT!!! What exactly did you do? You have now become one of my favorite places to eat at whenever I pull up to Seattle. This experience was EASILY a 5 star experience. Let's start off with the dimly lit restaurant which is always a winner. I hate going to steakhouses & the lights are turned all the way up TURN THE BRIGHTNESS DOWN . My waitress was EXTREMELY knowledgeable about any and everything on the menu. I respected the fact that she told me about the specials since I ordered 2 things off the specials. The specials items are NOT on the menu so make sure your waiter/ waitress tells you about them. Let's get into the appetizers. Do yourself a favor, ORDER THE PORK BELLY!!! This item wasn't on the menu so I'm lucky I was told about it because this pork belly was OUT of this world! It was easily one of the best pork belly appetizers I've ever had. It's up there with my favorite pork belly which is from Steak 48 in Houston Texas. GET THE PORK BELLY, DON'T TEST ME!!! I was also able to try the wicked shrimp which was delicious. I'm not a huge fan of spicy food but this was the perfect amount of spicy, very flavorful. Do yourself a favor by dipping the house bread in the sauce soooooo good. Ok here is where I tell you what to get for your entree. GET THE FLAMING SWORD TENDERLOIN!!! Now I know what you're thinking, "You're just saying that because they set it on fire" and YEZZZZZZZZZ that's EXACTLY why. You already know everything you order is going to be amazing anyway so why not have it set ablaze in front of everyone? It's so cool, the gentleman showed up with a long sword of tenderloin and then WOOOOOOOSSSHHHHH flames! It was lit......... Ok moving on . Also tried the lamb shank from the specials menu because our waitress sold us on how good it was BUTTTTT I shouldn't have ordered it. Don't get me wrong, it was VERY good but it didn't wow me like the tenderloin did. I would give it a solid 8 out of 10, very high rating but I can get a nice Lamb Shank anywhere so next time I'll try something else. We only ordered 1 side which was the Au gratin potatoes and that was EASILY a 10 out of 10. The perfect amount of cheese, which was A LOT just like I like it. Throw that damn cheese on there, MORE PLEASE!!! Ohhhh and lastly I was able to try their blood orange old fashioned which is apparently their award winner & I can see why. Perfectly made cocktail, would have ordered more but I was nursing a hangover from the night before bwahahaha We had NO room for dessert, I'm talking literally NONE so I asked for the bill so I could roll my way out the restaurant. They add a 20 percent tip to your bill automatically so budget that in when you non tippers are ordering lolol. I loved our waitress so much that I tipped on top of the 20 percent tip! First time here and wow! We started off with some garlic bread that was delicious. That was following by an appetizer that has spicy shrimp, can't remember the name but that was so good. Worth the heartburn. We got a filet and ribeye along with Mac and cheese and the scalloped potatoes. The food was exceptional. When you arrive and if your table isn't ready, you can go sit at the bar. If they get you before your drink is made, the bartender will take the drink to you. I had a Seattle sunrise (sunset?) and it was good. Unbeknownst to me, I got engaged that morning so our server was kind enough to give us complimentary champagne to toast. I also asked him (I believe his name was Oakley?) where the bathroom was and he was such a gentleman and escorted me to the bathroom. Even extended his arm so he could walk me there. He was so wonderful and even took a photo of us. He gave great food recommendations. There is a tip already included in your total, I believe it's 20%. They tell you right before you order, it's on the menu, and you're reminded again when your check is handed to you. Our server was so nice and wonderful, we decided to tip him more on top of the 20%. When he saw it, he reminded us that the tip was already included and we said we were fine with that because his service was amazing and deserved it. So we walk out and I'm going to assume this was someone who was above our server, but he showed us our receipt and asked if we meant to do that because the tip was already included. It felt like we were being interrogated in front of the restaurant lol. The service and everything was great but that last interaction was odd to me. No need to follow me and stalk us until we walk outside. I will return though. read more

I absolutely LOVE going to El Gaucho. It is my favorite restaurant, hands down. My husband and I normally go to the Tacoma location, but decided to head up to Seattle to celebrate our birthdays. It was the best experience. The staff spoiled us and made sure our dinner was memorable. It started with our seating. There is an upper platform type area that wraps around the main floor. You can see the entire restaurant from our view, including a peek at the kitchen. Our server, Moc (or Mok?) was witty, genuine, and added to our experience. At one point he actually walked us over to the kitchen, and introduced us to Sam, one of the head chefs. Sam was manning the grill and explained how their charcoal grill system works (you have to see it to understand). Our food was amazing as always. The lobster was perfectly cooked, as was my husbands filet mignon. We got roasted sweet corn as a side. Pro tip: ask for a half portion. The full size is huge and you'll never eat it all a half portion is perfect for two people. My cocktail drink was prepared tableside by the bar manager Simone. She talked us through it as it has a flavor bubble on it that was so cool to see. She also was the one who made our dessert. Speaking of dessert... I will never tire of cherries jubilee, that is also made tableside. It's so fun to watch it come together. I actually like Seattle's version better than the one in Tacoma. They add sugar to their sauce, which makes it thicker and richer. We also were given a slice of key lime pie to share, or other fave desert, because the house was spoiling us. My final shout out goes to the manager/executive chef Kirin. How he does both roles, I don't know. But he did that AND took time to frequently check in with us. Turns out that he's from our neighborhood and used to work at another restaurant that was a fave of ours years ago. Small world. He really ensured that we had the best time from start to finish. I know this review is long and rambling but it's hard to describe my love of the place. If you are looking for a fancy dinner out, you can't go wrong here. Is it expensive? Yes.
