We had to wait till 30 mins to get water and an hour for a menu. The male host who I thought hosted was nice for the most part. The food was ok and the drinks especially the rum punch tasted like tap water ‍. I'm glad I went to this spot because I was going to have my birthday party. Absolutely not! If you want to hang a quick hangout and eat some African/Jamaican food bites do takeout. I understand being a new establishment comes with hurdles. However, customer service has to be at the forefront of the operation. Suggestion, implement a robust reservation system, ideally with waitlist management. This helps smooth out peak times, reducing overcrowding and excessive wait times. Limit table times for large parties to 2 hrs. or add a surcharge. When large parties book a reservation, politely inform them about time limits or other policies during peak hours. For example, "We reserve two hours for parties of six or more to ensure everyone can be accommodated." On arrival, the host or server can also tactfully remind the group of the reservation time frame in a friendly, non-intrusive way, letting them know they have ample time to enjoy their meal but setting expectations. I would like to say thank you to the Manager Terry who was extremely accommodating to me at the last minute this weekend. I made reservations for my birthday this weekend for my 55th. I must have called at least 3 times including the day of adding more guests. She was nice never rude and gave me the bigger room. Staff was nice my server was accommodating she smiled she wasn't rude . The astatic are amazing the drinks are good. Be patient because everyone is celebrating there birthday and EKO makes sure you get your birthday song and moment. Our food took a little long to come out but it's worth it and they never made me feel like i had to rush out even though another party was waiting. I must say I was hesitant based on the reviews to check out Eko. But I wanted to try somewhere new for my mom's birthday. Once we arrived the host was there to greet us. Then our waiter was Very knowledgeable on the food and drink options. I had the Lychee martini and my mom had the Rum punch, both very excellent. The ambience was great. They had live entertainment from a saxophone player which was a great addition. For dinner the jerk chicken jollof had good seasoning. I had a great experience here. Our waiter's name was Ivory and she was great. Very welcoming and knowledgeable about all the menu items even though she doesn't eat red meat. I tried so many dishes from here. The goat and the oxtail egusi were delicious. The jerk chicken was delicious as well. The salmon was okay. I didn't like the fact that inside the salmon wasn't seasoned. Only the outside. The mashed potatoes was flavorful. However, I've had better jollof rice. Btw, the shrimp in the salad come cold. I can't remember the waiter's name but she came to take our order after 20 minutes of seating. You can tell they were short-staffed. We never received water. I'm the adventurous friend who tries the things that people want to try but play it safe. I asked for recommendation from the waiter, but she wasn't familiar with the Nigerian dishes. She gave great recommendations for the Caribbean dishes. My friend ordered the oxtail with jollof and she said it was good. Her entree came with the appetizer, which is weird. My food came 20-30 minutes after. We had their wings. I cant remember the name. I ordered the egusi w/ goat. I never had egusi but I'm open to anything. The egusi had this strange aftertaste. They gave 5 pieces of goat. For $40 I'm was disappointed. I didn't drink but my friend had a margarita and lemon drop both were not mixed well. She didn't taste the alcohol. It was all sugar. The DJ came around 9 pm. This restaurant is fairly new. I try to stay away from new restaurants until they make a year, but this is my honest review. We came to Eko as a walk-in party of 2 around 6pm on a Saturday. Restaurant was beautiful, small but lovely and not overcrowded. As walk-ins the Hostess wasn't sure what to do about us not having a reservation and we had to make the suggestion to sit at the bar. There was a fully empty bar and should've been a simple solution for a hostess. We were handed menus and immediately ordered drinks. Ordered the Eko Punch ($18) and Drunk in Love ($18). The prices were high for the location are more aligned to Manhattan prices. Market price cocktail comparison includes: Bamboo Walk, Brooklyn ($15 - $19) Kokomo, Brooklyn ($17-$21) All top shelf Imani, Brooklyn ($12 - $18) S'Aimer, Manhattan ($17 - $20) Omars Kitchen ($16 -$18) Lagos ($17 - $26) All top shelf All this to say, that to see the use of the lowest quality bottom shelf vodka used to make the Drunk in Love cocktail was off-putting. A high quality vodka is probably the cheapest top shelf you can get so to be used a college fraternity level vodka was not it. When mentioned to the bartender, her response was does the menu state the drink comes with a top shelf Vodka. Response was no, but the price point and the aesthetic that the restaurant is promoting as a brand is not aligned. Brand is asking people to show us dressed and states it thrives for excellence. That same model should transcend in ingredients and quality of product. That can't be said for your cocktails. Moving on to food, fries were pretty good. The sutra shrimp was bland. We wanted sutra beef and were told the restaurant ran out, that's interesting to see a restaurant open a 5pm be pretty much empty at 6pm when we arrive, and run out of a menu item. It seems more like poor planning. For entree, we went with the oxtail dinner and a side of plantain. We get it oxtails are expensive and the price has gone up. No problem to pay the price, but $45 for 4 pieces of oxtail, overcooked Jollof rice, and what I can only assume was a frozen vegetable medley. That's not aligned with the price point. Jollof rice was not made traditionally and tasted Jollof flavored. Texture was soft and that's not even consistent with the Jamaican way of cooking rice which should be shelly where the rice is not sticky or mushy. Plantains didn't come until the end of our meal after asking, we assumed that they were forgotten although we were specifically asked how we wanted the food brought out. Having a restaurant like this in our community should feel good. It instead feels like another business planting itself in a community and not handling the people with care. It feels like another way to exploit a community with razzle dazzle and not give them what they deserve. To break it down even further, this compares to going to a CVS in Manhattan and getting great service and the coming to my local CVS in the community and service seeming optional. It's not ok to bring these astronomical prices to a low income community and give the bare minimum. Our people deserve better. We deserve luxury, quality, and all the frills. Especially, when willing to pay for it. We deserve a high quality standard to be built into high price points. We don't deserve to walk into what looks like a luxe, high quality restaurant that comes with price point at the level to then get a chain restaurant experience. The customer experience needs to be built into the footprint of the brand. This does not feel like the case at Eko. Living in this community for most of our lives and wanting the best for our people it's important for us to be transparent. It's important that our community should also know that they deserve to have standards and for their standards to be met. We don't need to accept the bare minimum. read more

We arrived at the restaurant for my birthday brunch AT 1:30PM. We were immediately seated. The decor & atmosphere was very nice, clean, upscale with vibrant music.(I was pleased). This is where the story takes a turn for the worst. Our waitress came over to our table about 15 mins later to take our drink order. Around 30 mins later we received our drinks and asked if we could place our appetizer and food order b/c the drinks took 30 mins to get to the table. We ordered appetizers. She didn't take our entrée order, she said she would return. She returned 10 mins later to take the food order.(note, she is the ONLY waitress on the floor servicing 5-6 tables-WHY!!?? THIS IS BRUNCH TIME) After taking photos and talking (45 mins) we asked how much longer for the appetizers? (2:45PM!!) She said," what are you waiting for?". We said the two appetizers we ordered. She said," can you tell me everything you ordered again (Wait, What?). We told her our order again (she is not writing anything down). She said she was going to go to the kitchen to see about the delay. She passed by and said it should be out shortly, and I asked for a glass of water(15 mins to recieve -asked 2 more times). We waited another 30 mins (3:15PM!) Asked again where our food was she said once again, what did you order? We told her she said she is going to check. 10 mins later the first appetizer came out. Then she returned to the table and asked how the appetizer was, and she took our plates. (leaving us holding our silverware in our hands). We asked the worker who was clearing the table next to us (the co-owner, as she later mentioned) if we could get two plates and napkins to place our silverware on. She said," What happened to your plates?" "All our tables are set with plates". (maybe she thought they were in our pockets?) I said the waitress removed them, she gave us two plates. The waitress then returns to our table and says, "Where did you get those plates?", "I have to clear the table to make room for your food". We said please leave the plates, b/c we had not received our 2nd appetizer yet. She said," What?" What are you waiting for?( my son said the check..lol) We once again told her our appetizer order. She said, okay, I will check. She came out with the 2nd appetizer (3:30Pm!). We then told her if you didn't put in the order in for the entrées please cancel, we have to go. 10 mins later our entrées came out, and we asked for a-to-go box, paid or bill and left (4:00PM!) I posted this on their instagram page and the Co-Owner replied : THAT SHE IS ONE OF OUR TOP SERVERS. WOW, I WOULD HATE TO SEE HER WORST SERVER. No apology was given, only excuses. Attended a birthday party for my 94 year old aunt. The service there was HORRIBLE. Some folks never got their food at all. There was a huge delay then a lag when the food was served. The total party was 20-25 people. In the end, after horrible service they attempted to rush us out because they had another party booked. I would not recommend the service here at all.
