This restaurant is fairly new to the Flatbush area and I wanted to give it a try and decided to go for my birthday in March. Overall service was amazing and ambiance was great. I brought my sister and mom here for my birthday and my mom is Caribbean and can be hard to please. So the fact that she and my sister enjoyed the food says a lot of this establishment. From my first impression (broken glass on the door) to my last impression (employee not holding the door open for me as I exited) of this depressing, music-less, empty bar/restaurant, I was overwhelmed with disappointment. How can this place get a 4.2? Hmmm. It wasn't because of the evidence that a front door breaking glass incident happened. I was surprised in the worse way possible to see the depressing, ominous entryway. It felt wrong to walk in there with any standards or expectations whatsoever. But there was a couple standing in front that recommended it. So against my better judgement, I gave it a shot. Back to the question at hand, it wasn't because of the bartenders that can't make a standard margarita and lack the professional and social skills to get a good tip (they charged a service charge for one person sitting at the bar) or the manager who took it upon himself to move my bottle of water from the stool right beside me to the bar. But didn't sit there. As there were only two people-myself included-sitting at the bar for the entire hour that I was there, that move by him was unnecessary. And it wasn't because of the lack of music in the bar. I overheard the bar staff speaking about the deadness of the room which we all know equals no money for a restaurant bar. Apparently there was a party happening later, which made them move the speakers to the back of the establishment far from the bar area. TGK certainly didn't get a 4.2 Yelp rating for the undercooked shrimp in the crab and shrimp appetizer. The fact that I left a whole shrimp on my plate, which equals to a third of the dish, indicates how I felt about the food. Perhaps the wings are better. It also certainly was not due to the broken doorknob on one of the bathrooms (see pic) that made it difficult to even close the door. You can see from my pic that it looks like it was broken in to a while ago. Yet, it wasn't fixed immediately!? Overall, terrible entryway, nasty margarita, barely heard music, terrible customer service, $72 bill for bar service of 1 barely edible appetizer and 2 drinks, and business owners that don't give a damn about customers' safety when they go to the bathroom equals me never returning. read more

Sadly, the food is the only positive comment I have. We made a reservation on Yelp for a party of 5 at 6pm and were informed on arrival that all Yelp reservations were canceled due to an error with Yelp, which we were understanding of and the staff managed to seat us within an hour. However, that the 1st of many long waits. Timeline of our experience: 7pm seated at table 7:15 menus were provided 7:30 food was ordered 9pm appetizers arrived 10pm entrees arrived 3 hours between being seated and the actual meal is ridiculous. Due to it being a high traffic day there was a pre fixed menu of 4 appetizer options and 7 entree options which should've allowed the kitchen for a speedier turn around but as shown in the previous timeline, that was not the case. In addition, 1 appetizer and 1 entree were unavailable after 2 hours of the restaurant opening which further indicates how ill prepared they were for the day. This was a really good spot. I went in here yesterday with a friend of mine for happy hour. They have they have gone under new management or new ownership, and it used to be called Caribbean social. But now it's called The Gentleman's Kitchen. The food were really good in there. I had the salmon with the mashed potatoes and my friend had the ribs with the mashed potatoes. But what really struck out to me was the drinks I had the plush drink. It was so delicious. It was so sweet. We ordered seconds. The only issue that took the 1 star off for one was that it was a bit hot in there. And they had fans all over. This was on my list for a while since it's not too far from my church, but of course, there's always gotta be a caveat with these fancy restaurants charging upscale prices, with subpar experiences. My friend and I came, and the ambiance is gorgeous, but the food took a while to come out. We ordered the buttered lobster rolls for $28, and it was atrocious. Look how small and how much lobster (this is my half). $28 WHOLE AMERICAN DOLLARS. That was a complete waste. The server took it back to the kitchen and they added a little more, absolutely not worth the price, please avoid. Our food came, and it was pretty good. Not a fan of the Mac and cheese but my Rasta pasta with salmon was delicious and so was my friends lamb chops. Half way through eating, the music and air came off-- mind you it's a hot 83 degree day. I was sweating while eating my food are we not in an "upscale steakhouse"? Our server was kind and nice, but thank God because they added 20% gratuity and we were only a party of 2. So a few items on the menu were not available. The apps and drinks were tasty but not worth the price. The ambiance was unmatched they had a late 90's - 2018 mix playing, and the music wasn't too loud. The mashed potatoes were begging for flavor so I had to take them home and add some garlic. The jerk chicken was just OKAY. Not very tender or flavorful but the glaze was delicious I wish they added a cup of it for dipping because it would have been perfect. If anyone was to come here I would tell them to only stick with the apps and have patience because the service is SLOW. The best thing on the menu was the wings I have no complaints about them and if I could do it again I would only order wings. They were juicy, tender, and full of flavor. First there seems to have been a mishap with yelp accepting more reservations the warranted which led to the restaurant being overbooked. The hostess in the front seemed ill equipped to be able to share accurate information and help me when I was looking to get a table. Thank god the manager came and heard me out to potentially get me a table for me and mother. This was the shining light of the evening but afterward it went down hill. We waited a hour and a half for our appetizers and another hour for our entrees. With a pre-fix menu of $75 dollars per person it felt super inflated for one appetizer and one entree that should have easily been at $40 plus included gratuity of 20%. Most of the menu wasn't available and towards the end of it I saw people being able to order meals that were off menu. Mother's Day sure I get it but there was an extreme lack or urgency to accommodate guests who were seated, and my table was hardly checked up on. If you're going to be in the restaurant business it's times like this that make or break a business. Get a better hostess, revamp your reservation system and get your team on the same page. Went to TGK with my wife and family (no kids). What a dope and incredible experience. Food and drinks were amazing. Everyone got something different (oxtail pasta, both steaks, chicken). Not a single bad option. You absolutely have to try the BBQ Fries. It's not sauced. Think like a BBQ seasoned chip (dry rub). The menu is small but don't let that fool you because there's a great option for every pallet. The staff was all incredible-- friendly and attentive. Some of the best service I've gotten. And the ambience is fantastic. We were in the middle of the main dining area past the bar.
