Meh. Three stars. Eggy's, I wanted to love you. I really did. Grabbed lunch there in mid-August (no idea why this review has been in my drafts for months--total operator error) with a dear friend in town (from Australia) for work. We picked Eggy's because it was a short walk from her hotel, and because the reviews seemed pretty positive overall. Let's start with the good things, yeah? PROS: 1. The 30 minute wait was a solid estimation & actually not at all unbearable in the incredibly crowded restaurant. 2. A member of our four person party ordered the chocolate chip pancakes & they were absolutely epic. Get those! I get the feeling breakfast is where it's at here. 3. Service was fine. Not overly friendly, but also not overly intrusive (the latter being something we appreciated). Our server checked in on us, kept the water glasses full, but was certainly all business. Don't think he cracked a smile once, but I can get over that, I suppose. 4. For a crowded-to-semi-cramped restaurant, the spacing between the tables was decent. Yes, we could hear the people next to us rather clearly, but it didn't feel as though we were having lunch with them. So it worked out pretty well. CONS: 1. There is virtually NOWHERE to wait in the restaurant. We lucked out in being the only people who were waiting at the time, but had there been even one small party ahead of us...I have no idea where we would've stood. I mean...there is absolutely no space if you want to wait indoors. In temperate weather, this wouldn't even be an issue. But it was HOT and sticky and humid. So...prepare accordingly if you're heading over during the prime meal time and the weather is extreme in any direction. 2. Both my daughter and I had the grilled cheese and it was honestly the worst grilled cheese I've ever had in.my.life. It tasted like...nothing. Literally nothing. What?! Neither of us finished. How is it possible to mess up a grilled cheese? (Fries were decent, though.) 3. Later revisited the menu and was NOT offered the "complimentary cup of soup". Um, okay? (See attached image.) Overall, I have to confess I'm disappointed with the overall experience. I had such high hopes. Maybe I'd consider trying breakfast if I had no other options, but I'm certainly in no rush to return. Hubby ordered chicken and waffles and I had the Eggy's breakfast sandwich, I substituted their potatoes for French fries. The sandwich was great. Amazing breakfast, and the wait time was shorter than estimated. Those potatoes were crispy on the outside, pillowy on the inside. The biscuit egg Benedict I had was amazing, the sauces so good and the ham so sweet. I would eat it again anytime. read more

Awesome place to stop by after an ice skating session at Maggie Daley park. The line can get excruciatingly long, so it's recommended to make a reservation a head online. We made a reservation and were still waiting longer than anticipated. The food made up for the wait. Everything had great flavor. I shared the poutine, green eggs and ham (with a pancake), and chilaquiles. I had def recommend these dishes. Surprisingly, the pancake was one of my favorite thing here. It was super fluffy and not dried out. Oh. And the bloody mary has a pickley flavor and was super good. read more

Creative breakfast options very close to and easy walking distance from some of the major Chicago hotels. Nice nice neighborhood in the heart of downtown close to the Bean and Navy pier. Unfortunately I can't rate 0/5 stars but if I could, I would. I don't know why big parties scare servers and we were a party of 9 that turned to 7 because the other two left. We got to our table and it took forever for a server to take our orders, he wasn't nice or attentive and the hostess had to get involved and do his job. The waitress messed up my order and then tried to argue. I'm vegetarian so it's the first thing I say when meat is involved. "NO MEAT!" She mixed my order up and got an attitude. I kept my cool but she almost got a verbal beat down. The food arrived cold and tasteless. What a waste. She struggled to speak English and that could have contributed towards her confusion. You may have to wait 30-45 minutes for a table but that is just because Eggy's is no secret in Chicago. The environment is clean, warm, and cozy. The staff are cordial and smiling even under duress. You are never rushed. The food comes in large quantities packed with flavor. I had a Denver Omelet, oven roasted potatoes, wheat toast, sausage and coffee. My wife had the French toast. The toast is thick cut and fresh bread. The oven roasted potatoes are fresh oven roasted potatoes! The omelet is 4 eggs and packed with ham, onion, pepper, and cheddar cheese. Amazing flavor! The sausage is maple flavored and just stupid good. The French Toast is also made with fresh thick cut bread. The coffee comes in a thermos and unlike most restaurant coffee was very good. Take it from me, who's been here 3x in the past 3 weeks: you better know what to order! It will define your experience as good vs meh (or bleh). Good: Cobb salad. It was small, but fresh. Like me. Milkshake. It brings all the boys to the yard! Fries. Perfectly crisp and not too greasy! CHEESE CURDS! The batter is light and crisp, and the cheese is ooey, gooey sharp white cheddar! BOOYAH! Meh: Gluten free, vegan banana walnut choc chip bread. Pricey for $6.50! Burger. Not great, but not bad. Hits the spot if you're hungry. BLEH!: Green eggs and ham. This dish was super acidic and not satisfying at all. My suggestions: more fatty meat is needed to cut through the acid, remove the onions, and serve with biscuit/toast to soak up the juices and grits. Convenient location for those dwellers in Lakeshore East. Expect an energetic noise level, and get excited for Intelligentsia coffee! This place is still really new. I went there last Saturday with my little family and we loved it. The waiter was extremely friendly and helpful. He explained what the specials were and what he recommended to us. We order a burger and a chicken and waffle. The waffle was delicious and very soft. The chicken was also very good. It was such a beautiful golden brown. The drinks are also very good. What a find. I looked onto Yelp and saw it's location, menu and directions. I opened the curtains at the Swissotel and it was downstairs at a beautiful walking park in the middle of downtown Chicago. I had to go downstairs 3 levels from the elevated Wacker drive. It was a great adventure to find the place. I saw it 3 times and finally made it there. Came here after a morning yoga session because the original place we wanted to go had a 2 hour wait. Super happy that we did! Never heard of the place before and found it after a quick yelp search. We arrived and were greeted and told it would be about a 30 min wait. Considering the other place was about an hour and a half longer we didn't mind. The actual wait was closer to 45 minutes but it was a Saturday morning and it was packed. Once we were seated our waitress was very quick to get us drinks and get our food out to us once order. I had the chilaquiles with pulled pork and they were DELICIOUS! Also it was the prettiest chilaquiles plate I have ever seen (and I tend to order this dish at every restaurant that offers it). My husband got the Spanish omelette and said it had made its way into his top 5 omelette's he has had while dining out. After we got our food it was hard to track down our waitress again for a to-go box and the check but they were very busy. I've been to Chicago about 30 times because of my work, and this was my first time coming to Eggy's thanks to my partner showing me, and I now definitely have a "my normal place" for when I come to town in the future. Freddy the manager is hands down one of the kindest employees I've had the pleasure of coming in contact with, even though there was a limited capacity due to Covid Freddy was constantly checking on us and even the surrounding tables to make sure we had all that we needed. This morning I was super hungry while we were sightseeing, and saw Eggy's. After looking at the menu, I was very much looking forward to this - they had chicken and waffles, which is one of my favorite food items. I will start this off by saying it wasn't the absolute worst thing I've ever eaten. I wasn't spitting it out or dry heaving after one bite. However, I do have a few complaints. The chicken and waffles were advertised as half a chicken on top of a waffle. Which was true - but they literally sliced a whole chicken in half and slapped it onto the waffle as is. Some people may not find an issue with that, but I found it to be quite unwieldy and difficult to eat. Most places I have been to cut the specific parts of chicken (wings, legs, thighs, etc) into individual pieces, which I think would have been an improvement. Additionally, there really just wasn't very much flavor to the meat or breading. I didn't see any seasoning at all, and if there was any, it was very hard to taste. This was my biggest complaint - fried chicken should be flavorful. Especially with the $16 price tag. I would have much preferred a smaller amount of well-seasoned chicken at a lower price than a large amount of poorly-seasoned chicken. The waffle was fine. It was a waffle. Not terrible, not amazing. Just didn't have anything about it that stood out to me personally. And, lastly, I found the seating arrangement to be a bit unpleasant. I understand that they try to get a lot of people in at once to avoid large wait times, but the tables were incredibly close together - so much so that it was impossible to not hear the conversations of those around you. I was not pleased with my visit. Maybe the other food options are better - but, needless to say, it is not a place I would go out of my way for. read more

The food was so horrible! We waited such a long time for our food. When it finally came to the table it was cold! And then the manager when confronted ( I cant even remember his name) literally said to me , go ahead post your review about how bad we are! Then told us I wont charge you .. I wasn't looking for free food. I just want is a decent breakfast! then later on in the day, I got really sick and was throwing up from the little bit of shit I didn't eat.
