4 stars for Yolk - West Loop. This is a very convenient location in Chicago - on the bottom floor of the Olgilvie Transportation Center. This is a nice sit down restaurant to get a nice breakfast. All of the employees I encountered were very friendly, including our waitress. The Omelettes are big - generous portions and the meals will surely fill you up. The strawberry orange juice was delicious and very fresh, the mocha was tasty as well. My only gripe is the additional charges for even basic toppings in Omlettes - nothing is included. Overall, I'd recommend if you want a nice fancy sit down breakfast lunch downtown, but it is not cheap. read more

Great food and a cozy spot! The food was truly delicious, the portions were very generous, and everything was perfectly cooked. The interior is very cozy, with plenty of room, and the atmosphere is great for relaxing. It's perfect for a quiet lunch for two or for large parties. We found parking easily right next to the entrance. The drink selection was impressive -they have a wide variety of syrups and alternative milk options (almond, coconut). The chicken or egg sandwich was alright nothing too over the top, imagine just a slightly higher quality chicken patty with egg and some type of Cane's sauce on top. I used to visit this location often as it was just around the corner from my condo. If it weren't for the convenient location, I probably would not choose to come here often. The menu is expansive and there is a wide variety of options to please everyone in your party. Prices are high, but that is to be expected given its location downtown in a train station. The food itself is fine - nothing particularly show stopping, but good standard breakfast food. I really like the thick cut bacon here. Service here, in my experience, has been largely overwhelming. Sometimes I get a gem of a server, but most of the time I had issues with servers who were rude or inattentive. Walked from the station to Yolk, looks like a nice place very bright and the staff was friendly. They bring you water to your table which is very nice! The orange juice was fresh squeezed so yum! I also got a Strawberry Cheesecake iced latte, very coffee forward which is good because it's not too sweet and the aftertaste tastes like strawberries very good. My husband ordered the 5 egg california omelet, it came with hash browns and 2 pancakes. I ate his pancakes which were yummy, i had a side of hash browns and a cinnamon roll. The hash browns seemed very dry or old not sure which they also were a bit cold which was a bummer. The cinnamon roll came nice and hot but nothing special about it it's okay for a regular cinnamon roll though. The bathrooms were clean, but the second bathroom door doesn't lock so be aware of that, also they don't use paper towels to dry your hands just the hand blower thing that dries. read more

The chicken or the egg sandwich I wasn't too thrill about. The chicken was dry and wasn't flavorful. I had to add pepper, salt, and hot sauce to bring a little flavor to the food. One of our friends ordered their chocolate peanut butter cup latte, which I thought was amazing. I will definitely get that if I go back. Their French toast was good as well. The Happy Pancakes and French Toast were exactly that. No side of fruit, egg, bacon or sausage. Just bread! We often go out for breakfast and there is always more to it. I had to order a side of eggs and by the time it came to our table my girls were full from all the bread. Such a disappointing meal. Im very happy this place has reopened as I enjoy an everyday breakfast place in the neighborhood that has regular dishes. Staff (Amber & Erin especially) is always very friendly with smiles on their faces! It looks the same as other Yolk locations so nothing really special about the look of it which is fine. I usually go for the Kale Scrambler along with potatoes and english muffin...always does the trick! Douse a bit of the Yolk hot sauce on it for extra flavor. I chose this spot because of the good reviews. It was about half full in the main dining area, so not too crowded or noisy. We were ready to order as soon as our waitress came to greet us. Went here for a quick breakfast with my family before an appointment. We were waiting to be seated and my mom asked if they had a restroom but the host said they didn't. My mom and cousin had to exit the building and walk across the road to Potbelly because the public restroom in Ogilvie station was under maintenance. While eating, we noticed customers going in and out a hallway and we asked our server and were shocked when she said that they did have a restroom! Obviously we were very unhappy about this and asked to talk to the manager. She went on to explain that the reason the host denied about their establishment having a restroom was because people who didn't eat in the restaurant still used their restrooms even though it was only for customers. Ok, that's totally understandable but how come the host didn't correct the misconception when we were being seated already as "customers" who were about to eat in their restaurant? The manager was very obvious in siding with her worker with her empty platitudes and condescension. Like the tone she had going for her was "so you were ok in the end though? Despite the inconvenience, no accidents happened?" My mom had a little accident and the manager had the audacity to reply "oh, no...would you like me to cover the dry cleaning service?" Like no, instead of covering for your incompetent host, you should be more sincere with the way you dealt with the situation. I never believed in the saying that the customer was always right but in that instance, we were the ones in the right but were treated with rudeness and given empty apologies. No wonder the host could treat the customers like that when the manager was just as unpleasant! They both need to be retrained in how to deescalate a conflict, especially when they were clearly in the wrong! Also, the food was nothing to write home about. The pancake was the type that when you chewed, it got stuck at the roof of your mouth. I got the Croque Madame and the challah French toast was oily and dry. The potatoes were under seasoned and seemed like the type you could buy from your local grocery's frozen aisle. My mom ordered baked salmon and we had to return it and got something else because it was dry and hard to chew. Suffice it to say that we didn't even take home the left overs because the food was as mediocre and underwhelming as the host and manager of this establishment.
