Went here for a quick breakfast with my family before an appointment. We were waiting to be seated and my mom asked if they had a restroom but the host said they didn't. My mom and cousin had to exit the building and walk across the road to Potbelly because the public restroom in Ogilvie station was under maintenance. While eating, we noticed customers going in and out a hallway and we asked our server and were shocked when she said that they did have a restroom! Obviously we were very unhappy about this and asked to talk to the manager. She went on to explain that the reason the host denied about their establishment having a restroom was because people who didn't eat in the restaurant still used their restrooms even though it was only for customers. Ok, that's totally understandable but how come the host didn't correct the misconception when we were being seated already as "customers" who were about to eat in their restaurant? The manager was very obvious in siding with her worker with her empty platitudes and condescension. Like the tone she had going for her was "so you were ok in the end though? Despite the inconvenience, no accidents happened?" My mom had a little accident and the manager had the audacity to reply "oh, no...would you like me to cover the dry cleaning service?" Like no, instead of covering for your incompetent host, you should be more sincere with the way you dealt with the situation. I never believed in the saying that the customer was always right but in that instance, we were the ones in the right but were treated with rudeness and given empty apologies. No wonder the host could treat the customers like that when the manager was just as unpleasant! They both need to be retrained in how to deescalate a conflict, especially when they were clearly in the wrong! Also, the food was nothing to write home about. The pancake was the type that when you chewed, it got stuck at the roof of your mouth. I got the Croque Madame and the challah French toast was oily and dry. The potatoes were under seasoned and seemed like the type you could buy from your local grocery's frozen aisle. My mom ordered baked salmon and we had to return it and got something else because it was dry and hard to chew. Suffice it to say that we didn't even take home the left overs because the food was as mediocre and underwhelming as the host and manager of this establishment. Out of all of the brunch places I've tried in the West Loop, this has been my least favorite. Now, hear me out. Nothing about Yolk is bad. Service is fine. Food is fine. Atmosphere is fine. But when you're located in the West Loop with tons of phenomenal brunch places within a couple minute walk, Yolk just needs something to stand out aside from its short wait time. Yolk is exactly what one would expect from a downtown Chicago take on an omelet and sandwich diner. It sports bright cheery decor with light woods and splashes of yellow and blue. And the service is equally cheery and polished. I ordered the croque madame with potatoes. It was piled with a copious amount of ham and turkey. Just the right amount of sauce, and a hint of sweetness. My only complaint was that the sunny side up egg was cooked much less than my preference, and the potatoes were a little under done as well. A few seconds back on the grill and the egg on top was a perfect over easy with a liquid yolk. Prices are slightly high for what you get. But what can one expect in the loop. A great brunch spot in Chicago. Located in the train station. Went in with a couple of friends and we all got different things to try. Love that it is bring your own drinks as well. We did not but it's fun that they do do this. I tried the chilaquilles and they were so good especially being Hispanic myself I can highly recommend them and they do give you a kick of spice. My scrambler was exactly what I was looking for with a filling and savory selection; I got the savory potatoes "crispy" and they looked, well, a little too crispy. Maybe next time I'll just get them cooked normally. While Avocado toast is not usually my go-to, the one here was exceptional. One bite of my friend's toast and I was trying to figure out how to emulate the recipe at home. The worst experience twice now. The food is just okay. I've not had anything that is impressive. The last time I got a patty melt. I asked for the thousand island 3 times. After getting balsamic instead. The server finally told me they were out of thousand island to go with the patty melt. They should have mentioned that before I ordered. I really liked the Very Berry French Toast as well. It was a great complement of sweetness to our savory skillet dish. We tried Yolk again after a really long time. The burger was great! However, I got the breakfast burrito and it was so disappointing. The burrito was so soggy- not at all how I remember it being before. The potatoes were really good and I got them a little more crispy. Our friends got the chilaquiles and eggs sandwich- which were okay. This used to be a great brunch spot but there are so many great new brunch spots in the area. I work in the same building as Yolk West Loop, and my team often comes here for lunch outings. The portions are great, and the menu options are abundant. However, making a reservation for our large group was tough- they wouldn't let me do so, but we were able to get seated right away on this particular day. Our server was great and so attentive to our large group's needs. I ordered a salmon salad and also had the red velvet french toast. The salad was nice and hefty, though the salmon was very dry and tasteless. I would recommend the buffalo chicken salad instead- my coworker had ordered this, and it was delicious.The red velvet french toast, on the other hand, definitely made up for my salad. I loved the cream cheese filling- so delicious and tasty! I couldn't stop eating this and definitely had a big stomach ache after! My team all felt the same..overloaded with cream and sugar. I had been to this Yolk location a while ago, before the pandemic. At that time it was pretty good. Today, we were seated at 1:15pm and were among the last ones to leave since they close at 2:30pm. The service was quick and friendly--no issues there! It was also practically empty, which was strange for a Saturday... The ambience was casual, pretty typical for a breakfast place. Unfortunately though I was disappointed by the food. I ordered a kale scrambler with potatoes and pancakes on the side. When I came for the first time, I remember the potatoes being crispy and well-seasoned. However, today they were slightly cold, undercooked, and under-seasoned. The eggs were a bit cold too. There were also long stems of kale in the eggs, which could have been chopped finer or replaced with just leaves. My friends also agreed that it was a bit disappointing. Especially given the price, which is expected for brunch in Chicago, it could have been done better. I understand that I could have brought up the issues to the staff; however, it was nearing closing time and it did not feel right to do so. Two months after boot camp at nearby Navy - Great Lakes, and my buddies and I were craving brunch! After a brief search on Yelp, my friends and I opted to eat at Yolk - West Loop! This location is conveniently situated at the Ogilvie subway station. It was a relatively early Saturday morning and the restaurant was already bustling with hungry patrons. My friends and I were seated at a comfortable booth towards the rear of the restaurant. Our server greeted us with a fun and happy attitude and we could tell, this was gonna be a great brunch! Lol For food, I had their special Lemon Ricotta and Blueberry pancakes, and my friends opted for an omelette, and a fried egg over fried chicken and waffles. To help wash down my pancakes, I had a house iced coffee. While waiting for the food, I took in my surroundings. Interior decor is very bright and airy. The dining area is large with high ceilings, so you never feel claustrophobic, even when the restaurant is very busy. Food came out fairly quickly; I think we only waited like 15 minutes. My pancakes were delicious! Fluffy, with a great balance of lemon flavor coupled with the blueberries; it was perfect union! The iced coffee tasted great too, though I felt there was way too much ice in there, so the coffee was watered down in no time. But no big deal, I was just glad to have some real coffee, instead of that decaf mud water that we had at boot camp. This was the our first post-boot camp brunch..and it was a great experience at Yolk - West Loop! If you're in the Chicago area, definitely recommend this spot for brunch! :D read more

First time being to "Yolk"(Any Yolk, of course this particular one too). Been here for breakfast on a friday morning. The lady at the counter was very welcoming, lead us the way inside. At first I was bit intimidated by the appearance of the crowd inside the restaurant, everyone around was so formally dressed. Lol, I was way under dressed comparatively( jeans n T-shirt). Not that it requires any kind of dress code, looks like it's the usual group who works around the OTC. Yolk is situated on the first floor of OTC building(right corner of shopping center). Ambience was bright and colorful(Also super loud at the time). I should specially call out the lady/staff who attended our table. I can't remember her name but she was very cheerful and fun. Patiently waited until we decided what to order. Orders iron man omlette and red velvet French toast . It didn't take much time for the food to get out. Food was an absolute delight, especially the toast . Out of the world, everything tasted so fresh and good. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and the e visit to this place and will absolutely go back again. Highly recommended!!! read more

The Yolk is a local favorite and voted best breakfast in Chicago. Me and my wife cane hear and had a really nice Saturday brunch. We had the make your own omelet, eggs and sausage combo and I got tomato slices instead of the hash brown or other potato options. I added a side of the monthly pancake special pumpkin and s'mores very rich but still had a great flavor.
