Two months after boot camp at nearby Navy - Great Lakes, and my buddies and I were craving brunch! After a brief search on Yelp, my friends and I opted to eat at Yolk - West Loop! This location is conveniently situated at the Ogilvie subway station. It was a relatively early Saturday morning and the restaurant was already bustling with hungry patrons. My friends and I were seated at a comfortable booth towards the rear of the restaurant. Our server greeted us with a fun and happy attitude and we could tell, this was gonna be a great brunch! Lol For food, I had their special Lemon Ricotta and Blueberry pancakes, and my friends opted for an omelette, and a fried egg over fried chicken and waffles. To help wash down my pancakes, I had a house iced coffee. While waiting for the food, I took in my surroundings. Interior decor is very bright and airy. The dining area is large with high ceilings, so you never feel claustrophobic, even when the restaurant is very busy. Food came out fairly quickly; I think we only waited like 15 minutes. My pancakes were delicious! Fluffy, with a great balance of lemon flavor coupled with the blueberries; it was perfect union! The iced coffee tasted great too, though I felt there was way too much ice in there, so the coffee was watered down in no time. But no big deal, I was just glad to have some real coffee, instead of that decaf mud water that we had at boot camp. This was the our first post-boot camp brunch..and it was a great experience at Yolk - West Loop! If you're in the Chicago area, definitely recommend this spot for brunch! :D read more

First time being to "Yolk"(Any Yolk, of course this particular one too). Been here for breakfast on a friday morning. The lady at the counter was very welcoming, lead us the way inside. At first I was bit intimidated by the appearance of the crowd inside the restaurant, everyone around was so formally dressed. Lol, I was way under dressed comparatively( jeans n T-shirt). Not that it requires any kind of dress code, looks like it's the usual group who works around the OTC. Yolk is situated on the first floor of OTC building(right corner of shopping center). Ambience was bright and colorful(Also super loud at the time). I should specially call out the lady/staff who attended our table. I can't remember her name but she was very cheerful and fun. Patiently waited until we decided what to order. Orders iron man omlette and red velvet French toast . It didn't take much time for the food to get out. Food was an absolute delight, especially the toast . Out of the world, everything tasted so fresh and good. The Yolk is a local favorite and voted best breakfast in Chicago. Me and my wife cane hear and had a really nice Saturday brunch. We had the make your own omelet, eggs and sausage combo and I got tomato slices instead of the hash brown or other potato options. I added a side of the monthly pancake special pumpkin and s'mores very rich but still had a great flavor. I used to live in Chicago and was back in town for work. Found myself needing a lunch spot, and I remembered eating at Yolks in the past. I had the lox eggs and onions, with an English Muffin and breakfast potatoes. Service was good and relatively quick, food was tasty, and prices reasonable. I was surprised it was fairly empty. Was in to grab a bite before a meeting and was told they served good food quickly. I created my own scrambler with bacon, sausage and cheddar along with a side of grits. 7/29/2019 My coworker comes to work with the most awful breakfast for starters the grits were so watery you can use a straw to suck them up the bacon was nearly done and the eggs were scrambled but over cooked the one thing that got her was the runny grits she called immediately to let them know the issues spoke to Janelly which basically called her a liar bc she packed the food and everything was perfect and she had no other complaints well 1st of all everyone want complain they'll deal with it but this time we're complaining due to Janelly at Yolk not showing any sympathy after expressing to her the grits were runny a few times she says she'll issue a credit for the grits my co worker comes to this place all the time maybe they had a different cook today but it's not good to call a customer a liar read more

Yolk is very mediocre and yet the cost adds up rather quickly. I work nearby so I've been a few times. I generally get the corned beef hash which could do with a little extra corned beef, it's actually ok. It's relatively sizable and like every breakfast spot it comes with a couple pancakes. I do with the corned beef hash had a little less hash and more fillings though and more seasoning, I end up having to use tobasco to flavour it up. The pancakes are about as generic as they come. The service is generally pretty good though. Prices are high considering it's breakfast foods. read more

This place is SO good. We literally wanted to eat everything on the menu. I tried the loaded potato pancakes and the banana bread french toast and omg were they incredible. The prices are also super reasonable. The only critique I had was our server, who though very sweet, was not very reliable. She was really quick to take our orders but then forgot about us all breakfast. We had to literally chase her down every time we needed something which wasn't fun. The cost alone is incredibly high, the meals are expensive and so are the drinks. $4 for a cup of coffee is wild to me, $19 for a mediocre chicken breakfast sandwich, and $21+ for a skillet is a little bit absurd, this is with no chicken or steak, mind you, in the skillet. Decent basic breakfast is served here with quick and friendly service. I had my usual 2 eggs over easy with potatoes, whole grain toast, and an extra side of ketchup. I like ketchup on my ketchup. The place was nearly full at 10 in the morning, but my plate arrived in less than 5 minutes. I took my time eating. All was as expected, and it was quite relaxing. Stopped here for breakfast on a work trip. This is very much a business location. Most of the customers look like they are in morning breakfast business meetings. I was seated and served coffee right away. The service was great. My server, Matt, was on top of his game! My food came out very promptly. I ordered the Kale Scrambler which was super tasty. Would of never thought to put goat cheese in eggs. Might try that at home now. Grits were yummy. English muffin was good and it came with real jelly instead of those nasty Smuckers packets. The business owner replied and as you can see, he/she absolutely doesn't care about my complaint. If a customer is coming in there to order food, why would you tell your employee to make the customer wait for her to complete her assignment on the phone???? That doesn't make sense because you are lying. In addition, the young lady said she wasn't on her phone...she never said she was completing a task given my management. You would of been better off not responding! I am so excited, I've found another great place for breakfast that is within walking distance of my hotel and meeting location. I'm an early riser and Yolk opens early, so we're a perfect match. I arrived shortly after opening and was promptly seated by one of the hostess. My waitress was friendly and quick to bring my morning coffee. As I glanced over the menu, I was shocked to see their omelets are made with 5 eggs. I can barely finish an omelet made with 3 eggs, so I knew immediately knew to look at other entrees. I choose two eggs scrambled with link sausage, which came with red potatoes and a short stack of pancakes. My eggs were fluffy and I was surprised that I got three huge links of sausage. The diced red potatoes, were a crispy and a nice change to the typical hash browns side. My pancakes were plump and fluffy, and waiting for a smear of butter and hot maple syrup. The servings were large enough to feed a hungry man. The Yolk filled up fast with other diners and you could tell how they were greeted, that they were regulars. As it got busier, my waitress still remained attentive to my table. My only negative about Yolk is the yellow decor, I felt like I was inside a Yolk. read more

Awesome place for brunch at the train station! I can't believe there is such a nice restaurant here. Spacious and bright and very busy on Saturday around noon, but I put myself on the wait list via the Yelp app and got seated like in 5 minutes. :) I got the bottomless coffee and loved the raw sugar and all the flavored creamers they had on the table to add in as I desired. The Yolk all star combo was a ginormous platter of food to fill my belly. I got the challah French toast, and it was seriously the BEST French toast I've ever eaten in my life. I loved the thick, meaty sausage links, too. Such a tasty meal and great, friendly service. I would give this place 5 stars, except that the eggs were a bit cold. read more

So I thought that we had to go outside in order to get into this place. But I noticed that it was actually inside Ogilvie, which was great since it was pouring outside. Wasn't that busy at all for an early Thursday afternoon. Ordered a fresh orange juice and our waitress was really attentive. I have given this Yolk location multiple tries over the last few years. One thing has always been lacking at this location is customer service. Servers and not really friendly and they take their sweet time to put in the orders, make mistakes with the order, and take too long to bring the check but the last time made me completely fed up with this location. I ordered a Pot Roast Benedict, it was the worst benedict I ever had. Not only there wasn't enough hollandaise sauce but the pot roast was literally burned. Being their during the lunch hour, I didn't have time to bring this issue with my server but I basically ate around the burnt pieces. I can handle service being slow and drag but messing up food this bad is the last nail in the coffin for me. I will not be coming to this or any other Yolk places. read more

My French toast was under cooked (soggy, since the egg/milk mixture used to make the French toast was not fully cooked) and there was hair in the syrup. My waitress was kind enough to speak with the manager and all the manager offered was the "building discount" of $1.70 off my total bill. Also, the cold brew tasted sour. The restaurant is mid-sized. When we went the restaurant was half-occupied maybe less. The waitress that took our order was very kind and was patient with us. Also comes with a side of toast or pancakes. For a small upcharge you can upgrade to one of their specialty pancakes, like the nutty monkey with chocolate, bananas, and peanut butter. I usually do that because I never can decide between sweet and savory, so this way I get the best of both worlds!! I was recently in Chicago on a Saturday morning when Yelp found me this great breakfast spot (thanks Yelp!). This entrance is located inside the mall. Although it was busy, we were seated right away. Pete had a giant breakfast of marinated skirt steak, scrambled eggs, fries (yes, instead of hash browns) and pancakes for dessert. Before you judge, know that we were hungover. I had a ham and turkey club. Yolk offers the side dish options of regular fries, onion chips, cole slaw or a fruit cup at no extra charge. I opted for the fruit cup because I pretend like I'm on a diet. Pretend. This food was pretty delicious, I gotta tell you. His steak was tender and cooked to medium rare perfection. The eggs and pancakes were both fluffy. I really loved his entree. The ham on my sandwich was chewy, as was the bacon. Instead of sliced cheddar, they put shredded which was awkward to eat. But the turkey, bread, avocado and veggies were all great. The fruit side dish was pretty big - a slice of watermelon, pineapple, oranges and seedless red grapes.
