A charming Irish spot that's good for drinks and happy hour (3-6pm, Monday to Friday). They have an outdoor area and a deceptively large interior with a beautifully carved wood bar. For drinks, I started with a yummy cocktail then enjoyed a $4 Tullamore Dew shot of really smooth Irish whiskey. For a chaser which wasn't really necessary, I shared an okay $5 Bar Pie and pretty good $5 Fries with a Blue Moon on tap. While the bar crowd was really friendly and staff was pretty friendly, we had to look for service a few times. There's a small parking lot behind it off of Label St., metered parking on Walnut St. and municipal parking a couple blocks away on Willow St. I really don't like to worry, so I just ubered it from work. This place was frequented by a few friends so we decided to come here for a get together lunch. It was very packed for a 2 pm Saturday afternoon but we were seated within 15 minutes. We were seated into the snug which is the perfect and cutest area of the restaurant in my opinion. It feels private and it wasn't too loud. We all ordered something different but everyone loved their picks which included falafel platter, truffle fries, wings, calamari, cheeseburger, and lamb burger with sweet potato fries. I had the fish and chips and in my opinion, it was one of the better ones I have had. The fish came in a huge portion and had a nice crispy batter. The fries were good but it would have been nice if they were a tad crispy but that's just personal preference. The mushy peas I didn't care for but I dont like peas anyways. I have been here twice now in a matter of 3 weeks and do not even live close. The first night we were here we had the most amazing service and server. Conrad was spectacular. He was attentive, knowledgeable and just all around terrific. I have never had better service anywhere than we did that night. The food is outstanding. I'd been dreaming about the maple buffalo wings and that is why we went back this past weekend. Food was just as great. Service was pretty lousy unfortunately. Our waiter disappeared for about 20 minutes, leaving us with empty glasses both water and beverages - while we were trying to eat. Went here on a whim with friends a couple times to get pizza. The pizza is always good and last time we went they had a special mushroom pizza that we enjoyed. I did have some serious food envy of my friend who got a chicken pot pie that was to die for. We demolished the leftover crust. I've been here a few times now and my experience here has always been pretty good. They have friendly bartenders and staff and they serve decent bar food. This was my third time here but first time actually ordering food. Drinks were great, I asked for something sweet and our waitress suggested either a pear martini or the neighbor au pair, which is what I ordered and was simply delicious. My boyfriend ordered the maple old fashion, which he said was perfectly made.The cottage pie was tasty, I just wish it had bigger chunks of veggies inside. The buttermilk fried chicken sandwich was nice and crunchy and the fries were good as well. They offer indoor and outdoor dining, all staff wore masks and gloves, staff cleaned tables in between guested being seated and every table was separated. Came in Saturday afternoon for lunch. The decor is somewhat rustic with copper antique lights hanging from the ceiling. I decided to sit at the bar. There are several TVs for viewing in the area. Ordered the Mexican fish tacos. I was under the impression I was going to get the same fish tacos served in the adjoining restaurant Halcyon (same owners). These tacos had less fish, spicier and were served on soft shells. These tacos were fair. The tacos in Halycon have lots of fresh cod and are served in hard shells. Ordered the Sticky Toffee Pudding with caramel sauce for dessert. Now that's a dessert to write home about!!!! The male bartender was particularly nice. Sorry, I didn't catch your name. Recommended by a friend and we tried it a few night ago. The cocktails we ordered were mediocre at best being generous here. (Dark and stormy and Manhattan)! Another was made incorrectly as well with ice when it shouldn't have. They didn't offer a substitute for the bad quality of drinks. Food menu lackluster- truffle Mac and cheese and falafel platter were nothing to write home about. Probably a bit too much truffle oil poured over the pasta. They should probably stick to American pub fare and add a few more vegetarian friendly items on the menu besides the Mac n cheese! Came here with my husband for the first time last Thursday. Plenty of outdoor seating in the back. We waited maybe 30 mins for a table. It was quite busy and thought we would have to wait longer. Indoor seating was busy too. We ordered oysters to start and then moule frites and the crab cake. Food was so good!! The oysters tasted so fresh and the crab cake portion was generous. The only complaint I have is of the outside bartender who shoved his nose into the mixer (to sniff it?) before making my margarita. It was so gross. And for some reason the drink was $17 for a house tequila whereas the specialty drinks on the menu were no more than $12. We situated with our drinks at the seating area and at one point glanced over at the bartender... we saw him shove his nose into the mixer again before making someone else's drink! Why dude?? I used to like this place but it was awful awful my last visit. I got a chicken sandwich. My immediate reaction is that's not very much chicken and such a huge bun. I took one bite and spit it out. It was rubbery and Gamey. When the waiter came by and realized I hadn't touch my food he didn't even acknowledge it. At that point I ripped the chicken apart and gave it to my dog. However even the ripping of the chicken sceeved me out because the chicken was that bad and I haven't been able to eat chicken since. It's nice that the outdoors is dog friendly but it was a super hot day and they didn't even give the dog water. The cocktail I got was small and expensive for what it was. First time Iv'e ever been to a bar where a few bartenders are nothing less than thieves. The couple I was talking to explained how it happened to them also. I came to have an "old fashion" in honor of my Mother's passing a year ago. The first bartender was very nice. I told why I was having this particular drink and tipped him 5 bucks. Later I bought a round for a couple. A 15 dollar drink and 2 beers, I put 40 bucks down on the bar. They came with my change that was put in a cute plastic tray. I didn't have a chance to even count it. Apparently there is a time limit to pick it up because when I looked down again the bartender took it as his tip. OK, it's only money. BUT when they took my drink when it was only half gone and the couple next to me told me it happened to them earlier. (which is why they both had their hands on their beers) I've had enough. I told the bartender how messed up that was. I was told to calm down and they offered me a beer. A BEER!!!! I was drinking a Old Fashion in honor of my Mother's passing a year ago, THAT YOU MADE FOR ME and you offer a 5 dollar beer for the 15 dollar drink? The fish and chips were good (I could have eaten more chips but I am probably better off for having the small portion they serve). The mushy peas was such a sad tiny weeny portion she kindly gave me a second one. Really was TINY portion though!!!! The mussels were over cooked and not juicy plump pieces but shrivelled, perhaps they were not steamed but roasted? Whatever they did, it isn't an option we would repeat. Good place for food, drink, and socializing. Seems like a lot of young professionals frequent this area, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights. One downfall is the bar area can be quite tight when they are busier. You might have to plow through people to get from the front to the back. The servers do get annoyed (understandably) when they have to zigzag around you We tried the calamari, jumbo lump crab cake, and the Mediterranean lamb burger. We were quite happy with the calamari and lamb burger, both were tasty and the burger cooked medium was done perfectly. The lump crab cake was kinda bogus. There was no lump crab meat, it was all shredded and could've been imitation crab meat for all I know. The cake even tasted too mustard/mayo like with very little crab taste. I thought about docking this place another star for that, particularly since the crab cake doesn't come cheap, but Egan's usually consistently delivers. Egan's is a step above your typical Irish bar. The decor is industrial chic and I believe the beautiful bar was imported from Ireland. I'm a particular fan of the low-lit lanterns over the bar. If you are lucky enough to snag a spot at the bar, rejoice: it doesn't happen often on a Friday or Saturday night due to the large crowd Egans attracts. Drink prices are high for relatively weak pours, but that's to be expected in Montclair. There is an extensive beer and wine list. For a group of ten, we reserved a high top on Saturday night. Service was inattentive; water refills were so sparse that we finally just asked for a pitcher for the table to serve ourselves. Upon receiving sparkling rose (which came in a 187ml bottle), the server oddly asked if I wanted her to pour it in my glass or if I wanted to. I've never been asked this question - usually the server just pours it and asking put me in an uncomfortable position. Food is hit or miss. I loved my salmon with Brussels and butternut squash (properly cooked, nice roast on the veggies), but my friends were less enthusiastic about the sliders and nachos. I'm not a big fan of this restaurant for some reason, has nothing to do with service or the quality of the food, the times I have been here it has seemed crowded. This place is definitely a go-to spot and they cant be more friendly and courteous. We love the outdoor patio and ever staff member has been thoughtful and thorough throughout our experience there. My guy leans to the burgers, and I tend to toggle with a burger or chicken sandwich. Their fries are yummy, but my guy really misses the tater tots and always asks if they have them back (Even though they aren't on the menu any longer) in hopes the option returns on day.
