Honestly, I just can not with this place. We went there on a Tuesday for my sister's birthday. Everything we tried to order, they did not have. Mezza appetizer? We're out. Steak special? We're out. Watermelon ceviche? We're out. Mussels? We're out. Glass of red wine? Comes with a free piece of cork in it. We begrudgingly ordered other items but after thinking on it, we were quite annoyed and cancelled our order. The waiter and bartender, err owner (I later learned she was the owner) were nice enough about it. But I gotta be honest, after learning she was the owner and did not take responsibility and let her wait staff take the brunt of the customer's frustration - I'm even more annoyed about it. Very disappointing in both the food and the prices. It's pretty pricey for a restaurant in Nyack, yet the food is really not great. The night we went, the beer was warm, as was the white wine. I mean, WARM. The folks who work there seem nice enough, and the service was pretty good, but really, the quality of the food, considering the price, was really mediocre. I stopped in with some girlfriends for a pint and a chat. The beer selection was solid for a lunch spot and there was also a great selection of small bites and appetizers. Service was friendly and they upheld the Rotary signage near the door as all Rotarians are tasked with building goodwill and better friendships. We're so glad our plans rerouted us there! Service was excellent and we enjoyed the ambiance and dining experience. For dinner, I had the duck confit. It was delicious and cooked perfectly. I haven't been to PR in a few years, certainly not since they went through some changes to a more upscale type of establishment and menu. It certainly is a comfortable place, and the service was accommodating. But ultimately, the food I ordered was mediocre. The French onion soup came out steaming hot and covered with nice melted cheese, but was otherwise unremarkable. The strip steak that I ordered medium rare, came out medium, almost medium-well, and as a result was a bit on the dry side. It was almost to the point where I was considering sending it back, but I was with some people and didn't want to make a fuss. It was accompanied by a nice arugula salad on the side, and some Parmesan covered French fries that lacked any crispiness, and were rather greasy. It wasn't a bad meal, but for that kind of money, it should've been better. I think there are better choices in Nyack. read more

We arrived early on Valentine's Day hoping to avoid the rush, and the restaurant was indeed quiet with plenty of available tables. Things started off well--our appetizers and drinks came out promptly and were quite good. We ordered our entrees at the same time as our apps, so we figured the timing would work out smoothly. Nearly an hour passed with no sign of our main courses. When we finally asked our waiter about the status, it became clear that either our order had been forgotten or there was a breakdown in communication with the kitchen. At that point, we'd already been there too long and decided to leave without our entrees. I'm genuinely baffled how this could happen when the restaurant was barely occupied. With so few patrons that evening, there's no excuse for an order to fall through the cracks like this. The food we did have was good, but the service failure overshadowed everything. This was a last min decision and we are so glad our first restaurant was terrible with customer service. We called Prohibition River and they gave us an on the spot reservation. Dominique the owner was very welcoming and accommodating. All staff were great. We ordered several things like the calamari and wings for starters. We followed up with the beef stew , fish n chips, the duck, steak and salmon dishes. Everything was amazing. The beef stew melted right in your mouth. Over all a great experience. This was my first AND LAST time visiting here! The first waiter I had didn't even introduce himself or tell us about the specials, he just stood there with his pen and pad. Midway through our meal, he left and we were ignored for quite some time. We just sat there with our dirty plates in front of us for close to 30 minutes until another waitress finally acknowledged us and cleared the table and brought us our check. As far as the food, I had the pea soup which was less than decent and the eggplant rollotini was terrible! My child had chicken tenders and fries, which were fine. Came here for a mid-week dinner. Place was cute, clean, service was great, and the food was extremely tasty. The waiter was friendly and very patient with us. My sandwich was surprisingly very very good. The house pickles add a nice tart/kick. Fries were slightly salty- but I didn't mind bc I like salt :) Beet salad was also very good. We had a really great experience here! It was the day of the Halloween parade. Got lucky with a table just before it came by. We enjoyed delicious drinks. I had a Quiona salad with berries and feta. Went to Prohibition River for brunch with my group of friends. Thankfully they were able to seat my large group of friends for a Sunday brunch-- so that was a plus! We started with some drinks and then my sister and I decided to share some appetizers. The menu has a great variety of sandwiches, salads, and entrees. So for appetizers we chose the grilled cheese shots which came with a roasted tomato and garlic bisque for dipping, angry calamari that were coated in a sweet and spicy sauce, and the short rib quesadilla. Everything was WOW! The grilled cheese was my favorite! I also had ordered some fries and not going to lie they were really good as well! I also had ordered a cappuccino and it was a great way to end my meal. Service was good and all the waiters were attentive. Street parking is plentiful but there is also parking lots nearby. I'm giving this spot 4.5 stars and seriously only knocking off a point because they seemed to be short staffed the day I went in. Not this locations fault at all. Prohibition River is the really nice bar, in a very quant area of Nyack. I stopped in here, by pure luck, because I happened to be in the area. I sat at the bar, and let me just say, this is a NICE bar. There are plenty of TVs to watch, if you wanted something a little more laid back than sitting at a table. For my meal, I started out with the tomato bisque and it was very creamy! It also had a little kick to it. It felt like I was being hugged from the inside, eating that soup. I'm still dreaming about it! Then for my entree, I ordered the beet salad and added salmon to it. I did not leave a crumb on my plate. What was once a comfortable, fun spot for a burger and a beer in downtown Nyack has lost its rustic charm. I have been dining here since the summer of 2019, so I was taken aback by the 70s Christmas paintjob and the addition of white table cloths. Is this fine dining with a nautical twist? People come here to snack, to watch the game and sip some scotch. The cozy banquettes have been removed, creating a lot of negative space between the poorly arranged low-top tables and high, high ceilings. I reluctantly sat down because my partner was famished and we were looking forward to the grilled cheese shots and the decadent short rib quesadilla. I washed my hands with cold water in the bathroom. Everything tasted old, the horseradish cream sauce is milky and my burger bun was wet. The ice was garlicky. I think there must be an issue with refrigeration and quality control. That fryer oil could also use a freshening up. Here's the thing: I'm gonna need at least a 2.5 ounce pour of liquor in a mixed drink that costs a dollar more than your cheapest entree. Call me a lush, but I'll order twice as many if the first one gets me buzzed. Our server, Tyler, was attentive and sweet. His heart of gold shines through in everything he does, down to the stack of paper napkins for my greasy hands. His face was the only one I recognized as they tend to run through staff often. None of the old regulars hang out there anymore. The man I thought was an overly comfortable manager, sitting in the front and drinking wine with his boyfriend turned out to be the owner. I know he was the owner because he told everyone within earshot. I found him pretentious. I hate to do this. It's only a matter of time before another Nyack staple becomes an empty storefront. The food was absolutely phenomenal. We had the Dominican Dove ceviche, wings and crab dip to start and each appetizer was better than the last. Then we had the steak frites and the pork chop and each bite was delicious. The potatoes that come with the pork chops are so good! And that sauce that comes with both the steak and the pork chops is finger licking good. We thought we wouldn't have room for dessert but made room for the delicious crème brûlée and the apple egg rolls!!! Chef Winston Thomas is bringing the heat with all of these new dishes! Murphy our server was very friendly and welcoming. And so patient because there were so many great dishes on the menu, we couldn't make a decision right away. Great ambiance. Great food. Decent, dimly lit place tucked away in the village of Nyack. They have front windows that open wide for warmer nights. Mostly burgers and bar food--beer cheese, tots, sandwiches, appetizers. The drinks aren't amazing, but they are pretty good, and not too syrupy or sweet. I ordered higher shelf spirits because some of their standard stuff is pretty cheap and not my style. I had a burger, which was juicy and well seasoned. Had an egg on it, which was runny and perfect. Fries were done pretty well. Service was low key, but appropriate. The place we originally wanted to go was packed and saw this restaurant next to it with no wait. I'm grateful the restaurant was busy cause we hit a gold mine at this place! The ambiance is a modern sleek feel and the bartender was very hospitable. The bartender was informative about what they were out of. Prohibition has very good selection of beers that we throughly enjoyed. Okay onto the food, it is a 10/10 with the wings (gluten free) with the Alabama white BBQ sauce on the side; wings fried and seasoned perfectly honestly didn't really didn't the sauce. I ordered the Prime Rib French Dip and is one of my favorite dishes now; bread was fantastic, ribeye seasoned well and the au jus dipping was packed with flavor and the fries that came with it was one of the best ones I've had in awhile. *service was 3.8 due a host/hostess being nonexistent or even server helping us being seated so that's why we decided to sit at the bar. Came for lunch on June 6th about 12pm when they open for business. We waited about 10 minutes for the staff to seat us. The waiter didnt have any notepad to take our order after waiting another 20 minutes. Once we began to order drinks he informs us the bartender hasn't arrived yet so we just ordered juice and soda. Fast forward, our food arrived before the drinks. Overall, the food quality was great and tasteful, but the professionalism of the staff needs to improve. read more

My first time here, should have went with my gut feeling and just left. It felt quite awkward and uncomfortable. To be perfectly honest, we were a table for two who were basically ignored from start to finish. Stood at the entrance waiting for some type of acknowledgment, a greeting, staff just rushing past, in and out. Eventually we were seated and given menus but waited for at least 15 minutes to get the orders in which consisted of drinks, an appetizer, and two entrees. Given water for the table. There was never a check in after getting our water and placing the orders- no bread basket, no offer to refresh our waters. It literally took 30 minutes to receive the two drinks (which were nothing fancy), 45 minutes to get the appetizer served (drinks nearly finished) and an astonishing one hour and 20 minute wait for our lunch to be served. The restaurant did not appear to be overly busy, but it was definitely being mis-managed. The short rib sandwich tasted like a frozen "Steak-umm" sandwich from the 1980's. I cannot recommend this restaurant and have no interest in giving it another try. read more

There wasn't a sign to wait to be seated but we wanted to get some type of acknowledgement, instead about 4 people working there walked around us actively not making eye contact all the while we look like idiots dancing around servers. Finally we're told we can sit at the bar and again we're sitting there while the bartender & waitress talk at the end of the bar & take their time bringing menus. When the bartender finally brought us a menu she managed to smile & try to seem pleasant. Then, a big group of obnoxious guys came in, sat at the bar & kept the attention of the bartender with questions & making sure everyone in their party ordered drinks. So here goes with the pros & cons... Pros: ok food (I'm still not sure this is a pro) -we got the poke nachos, & prime rib empanadas. The salmon to wonton chip ratio was really off, I'd say 1 piece of salmon to every 5 wonton chips. Other than that they were tasty. The empanadas could've used more seasoning or a horseradish dip. Great whiskey & beer selection. Cons: service is non-existent. Do not arrive hangry. Side note: the fire alarm went off right after we got our beer & put in our food order. We stood outside & the fire dept was there in less than a minute (so, fast service is possible around here?). Someone left a lit cigarette in the bathroom. Really?! read more

The first time we visited Prohibition River in Nyack, NY was pre-COVID and the food was fantastic, the tomato garlic bisque was outstanding and the main entree's were excellent. A year after COVID ended we went back there, the food was good, the service was okay. We chalked up the drop in food and service quality to a "COVID hangover". The last time we went to Prohibition River for dinner was on November 15th 2025. We both looked at the online menu and decided what we were going to order when we arrived. I even looked at the beer offerings and decided what I wanted. Now, to get there it is a 45 minute ride from my home to this restaurant. When we got there and were seated I ordered a glass of the Porter that was shown on the online menu - I was told "We don't have Porter here?" I told the server, the online menu shows it as one of the beers offered..."sorry, we don't have porter". Never mind, I'll order a stout with my meal. I looked at the paper menu and the Guinness Beef stew I wanted for dinner and the Mediterranean Shrimp Bowl meal my date wanted was not shown on the paper menu? The chef walked around and came to our table, I told him I came for the Guinness stew but it is not on the menu? Whats up with that? The head chef informed me that although the Beef Stew was a big seller they stopped making that some time ago they just never took it off the online menu. I figured we are already here so I settled on fish and chips, my date ordered a shrimp dish because Mediterranean Shrimp Bowl she looked at online and wanted was also no longer offered there. As for the meal itself, well the tomato garlic bisque was not nearly as good as I remembered, it was not horrible just not nearly as good as it was during my two previous visits but I suppose different chefs will make it "their way". My fish dinner was flavorless and the "chips" were just a side cup of plain thin french fries. The handmade ketchup tasted like tomato paste out of a can. I ate a small portion of the fish and just left the rest on my plate. The food quality has hit a new low and the service was not bad it was just not - attentive. I can't say the server was rude in any way she just seemed clueless and it too a long time for the meals to get to our table. We arrived for our 6:30 reservations on time and didn't leave the restaurant until just after 8:00. Needless to say this visit to Prohibition River will be the last time we will make the long trip to this restaurant. The food is no longer worth the long ride. If asked about a good restaurant in Nyack, NY, I would no longer recommend Prohibition River. read more

I actually really enjoyed my meal it tasted amazing. I had the shrimp bowl and it was delightful, all the flavor blended very well together, only problem was the shrimp was chewy. My husbands meal was also delicious, he had the fish and chips and his fish was perfectly cooked and it was so light and delicious. The French fries are very good, and I also really liked the side salad he got with his meal. They only got 3 stars because of my chewy shrimp and the service was kinda wack. First time here after trying to decide what to have. Not exactly from the area but saw the menu online and had to try it. Honestly was just was I was hoping for and more! Menu was big enough that I had trouble deciding, everything sounded so good. Also had many options that are not what you typically would find at your typical dinner spot. Drinks were delicious, the soups we had were a special but were fantastic, as were the entrees. Service was prompt, not too fast where you felt rushed and not too slow where you feel forgotten. This is a really cute spot for dinner in Nyack! We were supposed to eat at Communal Kitchen but they weren't open. A quick Yelp search (and walk up the block) led me to prohibition river! Our server was really wonderful and sweet. She crafted up some fun and fruity mocktails for my friends and I. Much appreciated by three pregnant ladies! We also mentioned it was our friends birthday and she put a candle in her dessert which was a nice touch. On to the eats! To start we shared buffalo cauliflower and grilled cheese and tomato soup shooters. Both were really tasty, and dipping the grilled cheese in a shot glass of tomato soup was a cute touch. For mains my friend and I went splits on the fried chicken sandwich and the chicken cheesesteak. Both were definitely tasty but could've been a bit better. The fried chicken was very sloppily assembled under a soggy bun that fell apart. The cheesesteak wasn't really like a cheesesteak at all, more like a regular bbq chicken sandwich. Overall both were still tasty and came with a large portion of crispy fries. Dessert stole the show. An ooey gooey chocolate mug cake with vanilla ice cream - you can not go wrong. We devoured it. Overall it's a cute vibe with a fun bar that I could see getting very crowded on a weekend. They also have outdoor seating and are near the water - nice to know about for the summer. My wife and I met a few friends for dinner here on a Saturday night after determining this was a neutral location for all of us. We had reservations but there was still some seating inside and outside available. My wife and I began our meals with the House Salad. Very impressive. Tasty, large, and just the right amount of balsamic vinaigrette. It wasn't prepared hours ago and soggy. This was fresh. Our table ordered the classic burger, Asian salmon bowl, ahi tuna tacos, the 16 oz steak special with asparagus, and the grilled eggplant gyro. A couple of the dishes came with French fries which were excellent. Lots of seasoning and not greasy. Everyone was very pleased with their meal. Portions were very generous and everything was cooked fresh. A very nice selection of beers and wines to make everyone happy. There is a large bar where you can have a drink and watch a game if you want to. The prices were very reasonable. The service was good and friendly. There is street parking but some public lots within walking distance. Nyack is a nice town to walk around and shop and there are plenty of dining establishments. read more

Nyack has a diverse selection of food options. Two years ago, Prohibition River was excellent, and in fact I think the bar food was very good. However, last evening (Aug 16, 2024), either the owners changed or perhaps this is just the new norm, things seemed rather different. First I must say, service is always very good and the waitress and the bussers did a fine job. A few things that stuck out for me and my friend was thus. The bun the hamburgers came with (remember this is a $20 item) was clearly from the supermarket, I believe potato rolls from Martins. The table water, and no fault to them, is the typical Rockland County taste, if it were filtered from the bar, I do suggest cleaning it. Soft drinks, served in the can with glass of ice, to me, is a little on the tacky side, considering they do promote themselves as a little more higher end. One a positive note, the soup was good. The decore has remained the same, with the exception of the cute LED lights on the tables. Several places near them have come and gone, so there is something to say about Prohibition River still being there after several years. Worth a visit, possibly if you are looking for the drink selection over the food. read more
