We went on a Saturday night, and sat at the bar. It was very busy, but by around 11 it cleared out we drink wine, which there is a decent selection of. We also had the Sriracha wings. They were absolutely delicious, they were cooked well and generous with the sauce. They did have a little bit of a kick to them. We also had a salad with salmon that was cooked well, and the chicken sandwich with apples and spinach. It had great flavor, and a crunch and flavor of the apples added to the overall taste. Just tried Prohibition River for the first time last night and we had an excellent time! Our server, Yesenia, was really great at answering all our questions about the menu and was very pleasant and checked in on us regularly. The appetizers were my favorite part, because I don't eat a lot of Mediterranean food but the appetizer filled with cheese and topped with mushroom and olive was mind-blowingly good. We also got the white sauce chicken wings and I'm literally eating one cold now as I write this because it is just so darn good. The oyster mushroom sandwich had such great crunch, and those fries were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. We also had the goat cheese and arugula salad which was such a nice, flavorful, light bite. Only critique? Maybe consider offering a few more NA beer options. Overall though, we had such a good time and spent the whole car ride home talking about the food we just ate. We will definitely be back! read more

All in all, not a great experience here. When we showed up, there was already a line at the door, and I swear everyone there was in a bad mood (staff and diners, alike). Even the woman standing in front of us, shot daggers with her eyes when my partner said excuse me, so he could use the restroom (honestly). We never even saw a hostess. My partner asked the bartender if we could sit at the bar, and he said yes. We then proceeded to sit at the bar for quite some time, before we were asked if we wanted water, or to see a menu (basically anything). The bartender looked stressed out. The manager looked even more stressed out. Just simply scanning the room (bar and dining tables) and you could just see the look on everyone's face -- and that pretty much everyone was starving and not sure where their food was. When we finally did order, the wings came out super fast. We finished them, and our drinks, and no one came by to clear anything. Then we proceeded to wait 45 to 60 mins for our mains. We came pretty close to just asking them to cancel both burgers, pay for what we got so far (2 drinks, wings) and leaving, before we asked the bartender to check. 15 mins later, the manager brings out our entrees "they've been made fresh", but I can't say that really made up for anything. I can't even comment on the food, tbh. The service is horrendous, it's slow, it's impolite, and the food was nothing to write home about. read more

over an hour wait to get 1 of the 3 drinks we ordered! used to live in rockland and had been here dozens of times over the first few yeses this place was opened. when coming back to town to visit my mom and sister i figured it was a safe bet. took about 20 minutes to get my old fashion which was just whisky with an orange slice tossed in it. my mom didn't know what she wanted at first and figured she'd wait till my sister arrived which was only 10 minutes after we initially sat down. 20 minutes later my drink comes out and the server didn't bother to ask what everyone else wanted. waited another 10 minutes before he came back and then my sister and mom ordered 2 sangrias. needless to say, after another 20-25 minutes of waiting and not having gotten the next drinks, let alone the chance to order our food, we decided to leave. apparently neither the bartender or kitchen staff had showed up to work yet, mind you this was nearly an hour after they opened on a saturday. after talking to our next server at the restaurant across the street, we found out there was a new owner in the recent year or so who is just absolutely clueless and running the place into the ground. PROS: This place was a very nice place. The bartender Sean was one of the nicest bartenders I've ever met and the owner, Oliver, lead by example and helped the staff with the customers. The place was clean and had a large selection of liquor. Came here for a friends birthday dinner on a Saturday evening. We had a reservation and we're seated promptly. Service seemed a bit slow throughout the night so it did take a while to get in and out. Drink choices were interesting but pretty whiskey based. I got the French 72 which was refreshing. I liked the appetizer options and enjoyed tasting a few. For my meal I got the hells bells sandwich which was really good and a good sweet and spicy balance. Prices weren't outrageous. The restaurant did seem to get packed towards the end of our meal, but it seemed to center around the bar more. Such a great place! I was looking for a new burger/bar place and found this spot. So glad that I came here. The bar area is super laid back and trendy. I knew I'd like this place before I walked in. Great spot! Really good food! Started with the short rib quesadilla (perfect for 4 to share). Dad had the French Dip (he loved it), Mom had the grilled eggplant gyro, also good. My honey had the Fried Chicken sandwich (amazing home made pickles and Cole slaw), and I had Fish and Chips (tender and plentiful!). All meals came with a mound of fries. And last, we had both the chocolate cake in a mug with vanilla ice cream and the apple fried egg roll. Fabulous. The signage and decor was reminiscent of some hipster Brooklyn gastro pub and I really wanted to like this place. My party of 2 was kind of raggedy looking after a long hike in nearby Nyack Beach area. We stood by the entrance waiting to be seated. The bar staff and wait staff see us from afar, I made eye contact with a few, but no one acknowledged us. After being ignored for a while my partner in crime went into restaurant to stop a waiter in his tracks to ask to be seated in one of the available empty tables. We got a burger and a fried chicken sandwich. Both came with fries. The burger was fine. I suspect that the oil in the fryer may be overdue for a change because the fries and fried chicken sandwich tasted burnt without looking burnt. If the fried chicken sandwich had either proper seasoning or enough condiments, it might've covered the burnt taste. It didn't. read more

I highly recommend this spot for any occassion. We came here on a Monday so it was slow, but the vibes are great. Great music, few tvs for sports, great place to sit to eat and the food and drinks are top notch. The Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich was the best I ever had. The French Onion Soup was delicious and also one of the best. We enjoyed the Buffalo Cauliflower Bites as well. Just make sure you like blue cheese. I came in on a busy Friday night. During a time where that spells disaster in many places, the staff here more than met the challenge. The bartender, Pat was in the weeds. Yet he still provided great service, got my whiskey selection from the top shelf, the order went in quick and was accurate, and the food came out with impressive speed. We got grilled cheese shots (life changing), some drunken tots (amazing) and a couple of sandwiches. Everything came out fast and was delicious. The whiskey selection was also amazing. I got myself a little Old Fitz 13, but there were plenty of bourbons, ryes, and scotches available to order. Moral of the story, it's an hour away from where we live, and I'll be back again for sure read more

Tasty dinner! We were looking to eat locally and decided on Prohibition River. My husband selected the steak and had the roasted buffalo cauliflower bites alone with a side of asparagus. The cauliflower bites were YUMMY and hard to stop stealing from his plate! The steak was seasoned well and cooked to correct temperature (medium rare). I opted for the tomato bisque with grilled cheese 'shots' and the fried green tomatoes. All were very delicious. Interior had a good vibe to it. The staff is friendly. I wouldn't order a Bloody Mary or Mimosas. Wasn't a fan of either. However they had huge olives which were delicious for a Bloody Mary. More a tap beer bar but wanted to get my first dose of veggies in for the day ;) but next time I'll just order a beer. Menu was mediocre. We went to Prohibition River today while visiting Nyack. Overall, we were very happy with our experience. My husband had the. Angry calamari, and I had the short rib quesadillas. Both were delicious! My husband particularly enjoyed the calamari as it was prepared different than the typical way with cornmeal and sweet and spicy Sriracha glaze. The food that other guests were having also seemed very good. When we walked in the owner, immediately informed us that all the food was made fresh and to order. So we did not expect it to be very quick. But we did see another guest who seemed a bit upset that his food was taking so long. This might be something they have to work out because on a crowded day it could take a long time to get your food. We also had a slight little issue, but it was very well resolved. It's unfortunate to see this neighborhood standard go down hill. We've tried it 3 times since it changed owners. The service is sub par, the wait staff all cluster in a curtained room at the back of the restaurant and seem to avoid the customers as much as possible. The bartender, a pleasant young woman, is inattentive and unfortunately, not great with mixed drinks. The last time I was here I just ordered a soda and it was flat and warm. My partner ordered a mixed drink that was bitter and undrinkable. We ordered 3 appetizers and the mezze dip, which was supposed to have 3 different dips had 2 dip bowls with the same dip in it. The pita was cold and barely toasted. It was disappointing and below average. We were the only people at the bar by the way and the bartender 'forgot' to put in all 3 appetizers so only 2 came out. She was barely behind the bar most of the time and was also repeatedly hiding in the back area with the other staff. The owner was there and is a pleasant guy but we won't go back just to be let down a 4th time. The former staff here were so attentive and engaging. This group seem inexperienced, scared of the customers and poorly trained. Unless the service improves and the kitchen starts turning out a better product, I doubt this place will last long and that's really unfortunate as it seems the owner really cares. read more

I met a friend here for lunch. Cool place with a nice selection of booze. The server didn't know what beer they had on tap, which was weird. We ordered a specific brand only to have the server return and say they don't have it anymore, so we opted for another. I ordered a buttermilk fried chicken sandwich which was a recommendation of the server. It came out in a fair amount of time and what a beautiful presentation BUT, I seriously could not find the chicken. A wonderful brioche roll with a hunk of crispy-fried something. But I bit, bit and bit again never to locate the chicken. It was like a ball of fried batter. I even removed the roll to try to locate it to no avail.
