Great place to catch up with friends! I've driven past a few times and have also been told their food was great and I wasn't disappointed. It's huge inside and a little confusing because the hostess stand is at the back of the restaurant (farther from the street). We started with maple Buffalo boneless wings which were delicious. We also had the Parmesan truffle fries which were a little heavy on the truffle oil but not bad. We got the double bacon cheese burger which was one of the specials and it was amazing. It had bacon jam, bacon, and carmelized onions and was super delicious. We also ordered the chicken quesadilla which was listed under the bar pies and this was pretty disappointing because it was pretty unseasoned and flavorless unfortunately. Came here for a midday lunch with my fiancé. We sat outside because it was such a nice day. They have ample outdoor seating which is great for warm days. The have a cocktail and wine list, but we opted for wine. For starters we had the moules frites which were very tasty! I wish there were a bit more fries, but they were good nonetheless. For entrees I had the chicken Cobb salad and my fiancé had the blackened chicken sandwich. I was very disappointed with my salad. The romaine didn't seem fresh and was pretty yellow. The dressing was a "vinaigrette" but felt more of a honey mustard consistency. The chicken was dry and very tough. I ended up only eating a portion of it. My fiancés sandwich was just okay. The chicken sandwich was cold and tasteless the fries were also room temp. My friend said she barely tasted the fish since the taco had too much sauce. Oh, Egans. I try to love you every time, but I just can't. The outdoor seating area, the happy hour, and the drink options are all GREAT. Egan and Sons is one of the only restaurants in the area that has a true outdoor seating section that isn't on the side of the road. That's what makes the rest of this so hard. Where Egans goes wrong is the food. I've tried everything from more daring options to standard Irish pub food to literally bar food and it's never bad, but it's definitely never great. The last time I played it safe with a cocktail and the buffalo chicken tenders (like how could those be bad?)... they were literally terrible. This is my second time here and I continue to love this place. It has a great ambiance on a Saturday night and is fun for all ages. I had to order the hot honey pizza again because I've been dreaming about it since my first time here. As a native New Jerseyan, I know good pizza when I see it, and this pie is definitely up there among my favorites. My friend and I also split the cheeseburger sliders and fries which were a delight. I went to this restaurant on Friday December 8, 2023 in a party of three. We arrived at the perfect time to get both parking and a table! The hostess was pleasant and accommodating. The server was so personable! He really went out of his way to engage us. We ordered crispy calamari as a starter. I've had better. The crispy coating was too crisp and did not adhere to the calamari. Kind of annoying that when we went to serve ourselves you got a bundle of crisp because it just fell apart. For entrees we ordered one burger, one cheeseburger and shrimp tacos. All were delicious. The burgers were cooked exactly to order. The sides were one fries and one onion rings which were a special. My fish and chips were good with crispy batter and fresh fries. My wife had the chicken cobb salad which was heavenly! Egan and Sons? More like Eatin some Ons on account of how good those onion rings are. Genuinely the best onion rings I've ever had; someone alert famous onion ring fan, Lorde. Lots of reviews mentioning bad food experiences but in addition to the onion rings, I've had pretty lovely food here. I've been getting some sort of rice bowl when I go and it's good. There's definitely better food in Montclair, but there aren't better onion rings. Great place for a drink. The restaurant is way bigger than you expect from the outside, and they fill it well. Every space in Eagz has a different feel, and there's some cool art all around. Take a close look as you're entering or exiting off Walnut Street. Never had an issue with service. All the servers I've had have been nice, quick, and knew how good the onion rings were. read more

The drinks are great and the food is amazing. A couple of my favorite highlights: the butternut squash soup special (Omg. No words. If it's on the special, GET IT), the parmesan, truffle fries, the wings (!!!!), arugala orzo salad, any of their pizzas, the list goes on and on and on. Stopped by here tonight with friends for some drinks and dinner. The bar set up is really nice....seating area up front, long bar, another seating area and an outdoor seating area out back. Had numerous TV's in bar area with games on. The service was very good...bartender was good and when we made our way to the table the waitress was excellent. They had a lot of beer selections and a couple cider selections which I prefer. Ordered apps which were pretty standard. Nachos, boneless wings, and fried calamari. All were decent. For dinner I ordered the fried chicken sandwich with Parmesan-truffle fries. My only complaint of the night was that the chicken was a little dry. The Parmesan fried were excellent. Everyone else ordered burgers and enjoyed them. The atmosphere was pleasant.....music playing over speakers but not too loud. This was our second time here. We arrived at around 6pm on a Wednesday before a Wellmont concert event. We were seated quickly outside. The outside area is very nice with many tables and has a nice ambiance. Our service was excellent and our drinks arrived quickly. We ordered our food and it came out timely and hot and fresh. The inside has quirky decor which I enjoyed and plays 90s style grunge music which created a nice vibe. We ordered wine, which I found to be one of the best moscatos I've tasted. Didn't expect this but found it to be very tasty which was a pleasant surprise. I ordered the chicken pot pie and the sliders. The chicken pot pie was the perfect size and very tasty. Had great crust. The sliders had a pickle on each slider which I enjoyed, but they were your typical slider. This restaurant has a large patio seating area, which makes it a nice place to meet for a meal when the weather is nice out. However, the service was subpar and the food was underwhelming. Regarding the service, the waitress put my order in incorrectly, so everyone at the table got their food and I was given the wrong dish. When we told them there was a mistake, they took my incorrect dish away, and the waitress apologized and that was it. I awkwardly sat there for 10-15 min while everyone else had food. There was definitely no effort to compensate for the error/inconvenience. When I got my food (ordered the fried chicken sandwich), it was OK, very oily. The breading was also falling apart on the chicken. Overall, I liked the ambiance and the restaurant set up; it's conducive to meeting up and hanging out with friends. After not been to this spot in over 5 years, returning last night was definitely the right move. It is lively, frequented by a good crowd and classic without being pretentious. I would definitely recommend reservations on the weekend because you could get stuck standing by the bar but a friend and I were so lucky we actually found 2 stools at the back of the bar. My friend grabbed beers while I had their Nightmare on Walnut st, which was mezcal based and exactly what I was craving. I had 2 of these crafted by two different bartenders and I would say while they were both good the consistency was not 100% there. All in all however, for a busy night I felt the staff was very attentive and the overall environment gave way to a great night. Would definitely recommend and will return. read more

Came here on a Wednesday evening around 5:30/6 and it seemed to be prime time. I highly recommend making a reservation in advance. There is a small parking lot in the back but they seem to share with the restaurant next door. The host is located in the back so if you enter through the front make sure to find her to put your name down or else you'll be waiting there a while. The menu had the typical Irish American plates. They have a good selection of pizza pies. I had their steak and mashed. Their steak was good but the mashed was missing some salt. My favorite part of my meal there was the pear martini we got. I went there today with s large group. The waiter we had was rude and inattentive. He only took one order at a time and each time he came back to the table we asked him to take all of our orders but he didn't. I was the last to be served and when he put my plate in front of me, he immediately took it back saying it was for someone else even though it was what I ordered! Average. I came here years ago and back again recently and both times it was just alright. I think Egan has neighborhood notoreity so its jampacked with regulars and large groups of likely college students which they welcome and appear to be very accomodating for. Its spacious which I like even over in the counter area there is a decent amount of standing room. There are tables and high tables with stool seating for groups of different sizes. I didnt stick around long enough but im told it becomes a dancefloor with the removal of tables. So the food. Well I got the Egan double cheeseburger and it was just alright. Not very juicy, didn't taste the "special sauce" that is often put on the menu to entice. Fries were standard. I've had better bar bugers. Tried the pizza which was better, still not sure I'd want a pie of it. Someone in my party complained of her steak tacos being mostly lettuce and not much steak as well as being overpriced, which doesnt suprise me. Like so many of these type of places, ok to hang out with some friends but there are probably better options. read more

I chalked it up to a bad night, but went again last night with a friend, and cod tacos were also glopped and had no flavor, pea soup was watery, and my roast cauliflower was not up to par with what I've had at Egan's in the past.
