Sweet & Sour Fried Chicken
Taylor B.

Eem absolutely lived up to the hype! So many people recommended it, and while we hadn't originally planned to go, I'm so glad we made it happen. We weren't sure we'd get a table, but arriving around 5 p.m. worked out perfectly--we snagged a patio table for three and enjoyed the beautiful weather. We ordered a salad, the white curry with burnt ends, mushroom fried rice, and sweet-and-sour chicken, and everything was amazing! The cocktails and mocktails were delicious, too, and came in such fun, playful glasses that made the experience even more memorable. This was such a fun dinner and a spot I'd highly recommend. The surrounding neighborhood is also really cute, with places to grab ice cream or another treat afterward. Definitely worth making room for on your Portland itinerary!

Ordered take out & it did not disappoint! Their food is soo yummy & full of flavors! I ordered the Brisket Fried Rice, it had a crunchy texture that was perfect. I ordered the white curry with burnt end brisket, it was probably my favorite dish bc of how flavorful it is & I ordered the sweet & sour fried chicken. None of the plates disappointed. The restaurant is so cute & has a super laid-back vibe. Picking up take out is super convenient you don't need to go inside of the restaurant. I will be returning.

We came for a late weekend lunch and had a maybe 15min wait for a party of 3 w/no reservation. We were seated in their little covered outdoor area and had stellar customer service. I enjoyed the red curry with roasted veggies. My friend got their BBQ fried rice and disliked it bc she said it just tasted like smoke. When we were paying our tab, the waitress noticed that she had barely eaten anything and inquired about it. She then shared they had some issues that day with the smokiness and was going to make sure the manager knew this happened and comped her meal! I was so impressed with her service. They had some fun drinks that looked tasty so I'll have to return to check those out.

After years of knowing about this "Thai infused with Texas BBQ" cuisine, my family and I finally came here on my birthday. We came right before the dinner rush, so seating was available right away for our party of 3. Dishes we ordered was the Very Spicy Papaya Salad, White Curry w/Brisket Burnt ends, Massaman Curry w/ Smoked Lamb Shoulder, and the Roasted Mushroom Fried Rice. The salad was too spicy for me that my mouth was on fire, but those in my party who can tolerate spice enjoyed it. The curries were on the saltier side, but it definitely had the smokiness from the bbq, giving it more depth which I can see why it works so well with all the Thai flavors. If I were to choose one over the other, I would go with the Massaman Curry because the lamb was super tender and the sauce had so much more flavor than the white curry in my opinion. I can't remember the name of my cocktail, but it was a wonderful tropical and refreshing drink. Portions are a bit on the smaller side for the price point, but definitely worth trying. Will be back again!

White Curry with Brisket Burnt-Ends Smoked Pork Belly Krapao

Another 10/10 eem experience. Hadn't been in a couple months and we were craving the white curry with burnt ends, of course. Saturday night, had a 1 hour wait and it was worth the wait like always. We tried the pork belly krapao for the first time and it was delicious. Tender pork belly and super flavorful. The waiter directed us to use the nuoc Cham as a dipping sauce rather than pouring it over the whole dish which was great advice as it was quite spicy with Thai chile

The Portland food scene is exceptional and Eem is no exception. The device was fast. Even with a large crowd. The food can out quickly and was very good. It is a must when traveling to Portland. It's a small space but doesn't seem too packed. This is where you go to eat and socialize.

My family and I stopped by Eem for lunch and for a group of five, they actually had a bit of difficulty accommodating us during the lunch rush on a walk-in. We ended up seating outside on the patio at a table for four with an extra chair. The inside of the restaurant can get pretty loud, so if you're looking for a more quiet dining experience, I would certainly recommend requesting a table outdoors. Between the five of us, we ordered a large order of their BBQ fried rice, a large order of their sweet and sour fried chicken, white curry with brisket burnt ends, and wok fried yu choy. This ended up being plenty of food and we even had leftovers to take home as well. If you need any recommendations from the menu, your server will be more than happy to provide options. Of the dishes we ordered, the one I enjoyed the most was the sweet and sour fried chicken. The boneless chicken thighs were incredibly juicy and the exterior was craggly, crispy, crunchy and well-seasoned. Like good fried chicken, the dish did not taste oily at all. The other dish I really enjoyed was the brisket fried rice. You really can taste the "wok hei" in this dish. There's a smokey, charred flavor in every bite and they're really generous with how much brisket is used in the dish as well. The only critique I had food-wise is I thought the burnt ends in the white curry were a bit dry and a little tough. The cut of brisket was too lean so it didn't have the melt in your mouth texture you typically associate with slow cooked BBQ. That said, my experience as a whole at Eem was otherwise incredible. Service was fantastic, cocktails were creative and well-balanced, and pricing was well in line with expectations. Definitely would stop by again for a meal.

Eem was such a fun Portland food experience! We tried the white curry with burnt ends, and WOW, it was weird in a good way. A Thai-meets-American bbq. The the combination of smoky, tender barbecue with the creamy Thai curry was so good. The burnt ends brought that deep, savory, slightly charred flavor, while the curry gave it a completely different dimension. The flavors worked well. I just wished the burnt ends were more fatty. We also tried a pork belly dish, which was another highlight. The pork was rich and flavorful, and I loved the crispy fried egg, green beans, cucumber, and fish sauce with it. If you're visiting Portland and want something playful and different, Eem is absolutely worth checking out!

White Curry w/ Brisket Burnt Ends

Was intrigued to try Eem because I saw that they have a burnt ends curry. Hubs & I dined in for lunner, and there was a small wait at around 4:15pm already & a line was forming outside before 5pm! We were glad we came when we did...anyway, onto the food+drink! -Life of Luxury Cocktail, this thing was served in a HUGE fish cup, lol! Bigger than my hand/as big as my face. It's on the sweet side, but I needed something sweet as a buffer since some of the dishes we ordered were a bit too salty. -Thai-Style Ceviche, 11/10. No friggin' notes. I highly recommend. Portion is a bit small, because I could have eaten MORE. -Sweet & Sour Fried Chicken was decent. We ordered the Small and it was about 5-6 boneless pieces. Very unique. I recommend to try if you like fried chicken. -Wok-Fried Yu Choy was wayyyy tooooo salty. Hubs & I wanted some greens and it was fried with generous amounts of garlic, but it just got saltier and saltier as we ate it. -White Curry w/ Brisket Burnt Ends, this dish was a little bit of a mixed bag. The white curry (roasted cauliflower + coconut cream) was delicious, but did it pair well with the Brisket Burnt Ends? Not really IMO. I don't think the flavors match. I'm not exactly sure what would pair well with the white curry, maybe some veg or tofu...but BBQ fusion with the curry wasn't the best. 2 unisex restrooms available, the one I used was clean. Service was a little scattered. We got the Yu-Choy first, followed by the ceviche a few minutes later. But the Fried Chicken and White Curry took a while to come (about another 10-15 mins. to come). We were lucky to find some street parking in the neighborhood nearby.

Thai iced tea and mango nectar

Our family had a Pacific-Northwest trip and this was our favorite Thai meal. We had a 11:15 am reservation for Saturday and we shared the following: 1) Sweet and sour fried chicken, small 2) Roasted mushroom fried rice, regular 3) White curry with brisket burnt ends 4) Red curry with roasted vegetables 5) Massamam curry with smoked lamb shoulder The Thai iced tea is refreshing but the mango nectar can be skipped. It is not an in-house, concocted drink. Our favorite entree was the roasted mushroom fried rice. It has that complex charred aroma which is achieved by stir-frying over extreme heat with the wok. Our next favorite item is the sweet and sour fried chicken. A small order was plenty for us to share. It is sticky, sweet, and tangy with just the right touch of spice.

Easily one of the absolute best culinary experiences in Portland, offering a fun and unique take on Thai BBQ. Between the vibrant energy, outstanding service, and incredible depth of flavor across every single plate, it completely lives up to its reputation. Arranged Marriage Cocktail (5/5): A super fun, balanced drink with a great zing and zest from the ginger and lemon that lightens up the richness of the amaro without feeling overwhelming. Sweet & Sour Fried Chicken (5/5): Ordered the small portion (6 pieces of boneless fried chicken), which served as a perfect crisp starter. The chicken is juicy, crispy, and packed with flavor. It was great either as an extra side of protein or a standalone dish. White Curry with Brisket Burnt-Ends (5/5): While $24 might initially seem a bit steep for curry, it's worth every penny and all the hype. The curry base features a rich coconut flavor paired with a surprisingly comfortable heat. It was loaded with tender and flavorful brisket burnt-ends along with huge cauliflower florets. Smoked Pork Krapao (5/5): super well-balanced. The smoked savoriness of the tender pork pairs with a crispy fried egg, fresh veggies, and the deep umami saltiness of the fish sauce. Logistics Tip: Expect a lively, energetic atmosphere with upbeat music that gives the restaurant a fun club-like vibe. A Friday evening visit for a party of two surprisingly had a quick 30-minute wait, which is easily spent exploring the safe, walkable neighborhood until we got a text notification. Both main entrees include a generous side of rice, making the meal very filling. Parking in the immediate area is somewhat limited, so plan to park a block or two down the road.

Red Curry with Veggies

Heard a lot about this place but was a little unsure about a TX BBQ-Thai food mashup. I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. It really worked and highly recommend. So we went in the middle of the afternoon but the line was still pretty long. They were nice enough to let us sit at tables they weren't waiting on while we waited. The restaurant has a jungle vibe, a real Southeast Asian feel. It's fun and lively. The waitstaff are pleasant, albeit not super friendly but maybe that's the vibe they're going for. We got the fried chicken, the wok fried yu choy, smoked pork krapao, white curry with brisket, and red curry with veggies. We also got a bunch of drinks. It's fun to have a place that puts just as much effort into their non alcoholic drinks as their alcoholic drinks. Strongly recommend you try something while you're here. Everything was great but if I had to pick my two favorites, it was the fried chicken and the white curry. I was worried the fried chicken would be too sweet but it's very well balanced. Not overly sweet or sour, very crispy and the meat was tender and juicy. For some reason I thought they would bones in them but they didn't. It was clearly the table favorite as it was gone pretty quick. The white curry was a great example of how this mashup of two cuisines work well together. The white curry is a mellow flavor and almost acts like a thin gravy to the well smoked brisket. I have high standards for brisket and whether this would hold up on its own is a question but it certainly worked well in this context. That's not to say the rest wasn't good. I think I liked the pork more than others but the stronger Thai flavors was not as big of a hit as the rest. That said, the fried egg was perfect and paired with the juicy pork belly that was so tender and rich. The red curry was delicious although the choice of veggies was not my favorite. The yu choy was good, if not a little ordinary. Some may not like the bitterness of the yu choy but I thought it added a little complexity to the flavors. All in all, we loved it here and will definitely come back if in Portland again.

The cocktails were were super refreshing and the food was delicious. Massaman curry was delicious! The white curry was fantastic, but massaman was definitely richer and hit the spot. The brisket friend rice was good, but the smokiness was too much for me. Would 100% come back!

The raw stuff came out fairly quickly then we waited a very long time for the cooked entrees to come out. There was at least a 20 minute hiatus, which I did not appreciate. The server checked on us a couple times during the wait but it's just kind of awkward when the wait is that long.
