If you want a romantic upscale date night, then shoot for Edgar's! Nice setting and elegant layout of the restaurant. Can be used for groups, but I think it's a good setting for an anniversary or 1 on 1 Birthday dinner with casual style dress. I enjoyed every dish that my wife and I ordered. From the bread to the Augusta rolls to the mac and cheese and duck, everything was delicious! It was an expensive dining experience as the salmon with 2 sides was about $25, but it was the most moist salmon that I've ever tasted. We made reservations and were greeted properly as we walked in the door, we were also seated promptly. (Reservations are not necessary, but are recommended). Dining area and bathrooms were also clean. Overall it was a nice experience, a little more pricey than an average night out but perfect for a celebration with your spouse. I give Edgar's a 5/5 for a night of fine dining. read more

Amazing food, great sangria drinks, and excellent service! Nate was a great server who took the time to talk about the restaurant (since it was our first time there), gave a thorough explanation about the meals, and provided consistent prompt service. My boyfriend ordered the ribeye and although he prefers a well done temperature, his steak was cooked perfectly and maintained its juiciness. Family went for my birthday dinner. My son got the smoked cherry old fashioned and I had the GA peach martini, both were good drinks (although for the $17, old fashioned was small. Loved their rolls, light and fluffy, with infused butter. Two of us got the filet, one got a ribeye and one the pork porterhouse - each were cooked to perfection, be it medium rare to medium. We got for the asparagus and smoked Gouda Mac and Cheese, which were tasty and plentiful sides. Pace was slow, but worth the wait. Will be back. read more

First time here. Came in and immediately seated and greeted by several staff members. The server explained that many of the staff and cooks were culinary students at the next door college. I was told the specials and decided on the shrimp and grits. Food came out and it was amazing. Presentation and taste was perfect as well as the service. This is an upscale place to eat. Occasionally you find a place that has it all. Quality food and drinks, refined indoor seating, comfortable outdoor seating, live music, Happy Hour during the week, and a top notch team serving you. My first experience here was for dinner. The lunch and dinner menu (as well as cocktails) are seasonal so be sure to check online to see what will be available. There is a beer dinner, but I haven't made it to that just yet. Because there is a constant change, I won't recommend any one thing. But I will say this, you will find a home run in any category. Apps, salads, pizza, main course,...and don't even get me started on dessert. Plus a nice cocktail, wine, or bourbon to sip on throughout. This is the kind of place where your drink never runs dry. It is also the kind of place where you better get a reservation. They will accommodate a group, but they just need to know in advance. Now let me touch on the Sunday Brunch Buffet. This isn't run-of-the-mill buffet. Again, seasonal and farm-to-table is the standard. If you come another time, look to your left as you walk in (the area in front of the bar). That ENTIRE area will be filled with food. Waffles, chicken, grits, fruit, and anything else of goodness you can think of. Skip supper Saturday night if you can. And I like this; every time you get up to get another plate (they are at the front of the line) the team brings out fresh silverware. That's a little something we call classy. *Insider's Tip -While you are at the Brunch Buffet, be sure to remember that they serve bottomless Mimosas (12:30-2pm). Never offered us anything to drink but water and only checked on us a couple times. Appetizer was burnt ends, very chewy and strong peanut taste. Would not order again. Very pretty looking tho. Filet mignon was AMAZING. Perfectly cooked and the side of Mac n cheese. Ribeye was thin, hard, and had no flavor. Also is was brought out cold. Creamed spinach side was also very delicious. Dessert was creme brûlée with a lemon jelly underneath (which that secondary texture to the creme brûlée threw it off for us). Otherwise the coconut whipped side was amazing. read more

My husband took me to celebrate our wedding anniversary- our first visit to this establishment. To start, the atmosphere was extremely inviting with a beautifully decorated entrance, bar area, seating and patios areas. Everyone greeted us so warmly and we were seated immediately (reservation was made prior to going) and our server, Patrick, was AWESOME!!!!! As it was our first time there, he put us at ease by getting to know what we like to eat and then making recommendations from their menu. Being that it was our first time and our anniversary, we were gifted an appetizer and provided a Happy Anniversary card while eating. Everything we ordered tasted fresh and flavorful. Great dining experience that supports a good cause! A great dining experience from start to finish. The service was amazing and the atmosphere is wonderful. We ordered cocktails from the bar, all were refreshing and well made. For starters we ordered the burnt ends and pecan shrimp. The burnt ends had a bit too much sauce but the shrimp was amazing. I could have eaten just the coleslaw that came with the shrimp and been satisfied, it was so good. They also brought out a complimentary order of the pimento cheese deviled eggs, since it was our first dining experience there - so nice! For our mains, my parents ordered a couple of the steak items, which were cooked perfectly. I ordered the salmon and my uncle ordered the chicken, which was so moist and delicious. We were especially pleased with the sides - the collard greens and mushrooms were some of the best we've had! I also had the brussel sprouts, which were tasty, but over-sauced. Overall the food was amazing. My only criticism is a few items were over-sauced. The sauces were delicious but less is more, and the brussel sprout and even the chicken and salmon could have done with less. Edgar's is owned by Goodwill and the restaurant is a non-profit that benefits the culinary school next door. Many of the aspiring chefs also work as servers and kitchen help while they study, so your dinner helps to support young talent. I will definitely go again. read more

I have to reduce the stars for the simple fact that they now do a Buffett for Sunday Brunch. We always went for the menu and specials on Sunday and we truly enjoyed each meal. Now they have fruit, eggs, cheese grits, sausage and bacon, biscuits and gravy (all this is like any other Buffett I have been to). Then add in chicken fingers (they were dry) pancakes just stacked out on a hot plate. Ham and sour kraut, and Sheppard's pie. Now here is the kicker, there was no butter on the buffet. We had to ask for butter which took a bit to get and when it arrived, it was so cold that you could hardly get the knife into the butter, much less spread it on a pancake or biscuit! If there is one thing that gets me, that would be butter so cold you can not even spread it on your food. Even I get my butter out each morning to warm up enough to spread it onto my toast. Still good service, they have always been consistent with Service. read more

We went for brunch on Sunday, just found a random place on google that was decent reviews, we were sat down and the waitress I guess assumed we had been there before because she didn't tell us anything about the place, just asked us what we would like to drink. We ordered mimosas, once she came back we had to ask if there was any menus and then found out it was only a buffet. The food was cold and super mediocre, the mimosas were not good and everything was subpar at best. There was a giant party reserved on the other side of the restaurant and so it was super packed with a giant LINE of people. Literally had one small plate of food and my husband didn't even want to go back for seconds. On top of that, we paid almost 100$ because the buffet is 30$/person which again... we were never even told a price and then the mimosas that were terrible were 8$ a piece and then it was 25$ for service charge and taxes alone. For this horrible meal. We will NOT be back. I recommend not wasting your time here. read more

A definite win here. The location is not highly visible but seems to be good I was looking for a place while about to head into work. This place popped up on yelp. First impression is the place is nice in design and open. It is definitely clean and the place has a touch of modern. I decided to sit at the bar. I ordered the shellfish and grits which was shrimp and crawfish. Great presentation, the shrimp was perfectly cooked and it was absolutely delicious. The picture may show only three large pieces of shrimp but there was more in the mix. The grits were cheesy and delicious as well. The staff and the management we're both very friendly and professional. The beer selection is limited but the focus at this place should be on the food. Couldn't see and didn't experience anything that would be a flaw. Definitely stopping at this place if I pass through again. read more

My husband and I chose this place because it was close to our hotel and the menu looked interesting. Also, the history is very interesting: the founder of Goodwill, Edgar Helms, started Helms College years and years ago and its focus is hospitality. Edgar's Grille, named after him, gives Helms College students "real-life" restaurant experience. We were intrigued. The restaurant is in the same strip mall as the college. Not the best curb appeal, but tons of parking! Our server told us most of the food they prepare is from the surrounding area so it's extra fresh and in season. Very impressed. We got cornbread with butter that was out of this world. My husband and I don't eat cornbread, but we chowed down. Not only was it delicious, the shape was creative. Next was salad. My husband got the Caesar salad - with anchovies! - and I got the side salad: greens, grapes and red onions. They were both small, simple, fresh and very delicious. The dressing was amazing. My husband got the filet, which was grilled to perfection. It came with grilled asparagus (perfect) and mashed potatoes (delicious). I got the ancient grain melange which had quinoa, farro and risotto, along with apples, cranberries, butternut squash, pumpkin seeds and other goodness. Creative and delicious. We HAD to get dessert, so we got the cinnamon roll cheesecake. Quite tasty. It wasn't too crowded or noisy, the place was clean, the service was stellar, the restrooms immaculate. My husband and I are on a road trip and we both agree this is the best dinner we've had yet (besides Thanksgiving of course!). This has got to be one of the best restaurants in Augusta. read more

I love the concept behind this restaurant. I had the seared scallops and they were absolutely delicious. The one thing I will say is that the menu is a bit misleading with the scallops. The potato hash has pork in it and that is not displayed on the menu. I ordered it, and quickly realized that it came with pork. I have a pork allergy, that could've been bad. They were very accommodating and fixed me another order of scallops without the pork. I enjoyed the food, minus the menu mishap. read more

I live in California my sister lives in Nashville and our parents have lived here, in Augusta, for over 30 years. When I come home, we eat at Edgar's and we have never been disappointed. Mom and I are vegetarians and the chef made a delicious pasta dish for us. I swear the pasta was homemade. Dad and sister had the filet mignon and salmon. Everyone was happy with their dish and we devoured the creamed brûlée for dessert. Our server, Dillon, sweetly agreed to serve us outside because I am still nervous about eating inside. He was attentive but not hovering. He accommodated every special request. I ordered soda water and used an orange slice out of my dad's drink to flavor the water. Dillon noticed and when he brought a refill, there was an orange slice! Great service! We recommend this restaurant highly. read more

We made reservations through Open Table but when we got there I almost asked to eat outside because it was such a beautiful evening. Anyway, we were seated immediately. I wish I could say we served half as fast. I think our server was awesome but maybe the kitchen was short. It was 30 minutes before we ever received food. Hubby ordered a pizza and I ordered the shrimp and grits-supposedly the best in town. We'll see about that... Even though it took a while to get served, the food was delicious. Mister thought the pizza was some of the best he's had on the area. The shrimp and grits really were the best I've had in Augusta. The basil cream sauce was the winning ingredient to me. I'm going to chalk this visit to just a bad night due to lack of staff. If we had been served in a timely fashion I probably wouldn't have noticed how cold it was in there.
