Canadian Benny and a biscuit
Keegan Z.

Came here for brunch recently and it made for quite a nice treat, and who doesn't like big mimosas? I am always on the hunt for the best brunch spots at prices that are still somehow reasonably priced and Eat 33 definitely fit the bill. The eggs benedict were excellent, and I am so glad I got a biscuit side since it was perfectly delicious and pillowy just the way I like them. The star of the show is by far the $5 mimosa in a big glass, a few of these would be enough to get your Saturday off to quite a start! Sadly I was driving so I had to limit myself to one, though next time I might aspire to more if I have a DD in tow. Service was absolutely excellent, very much a throwback to the era of diners where your business was appreciated. I would come again just to be genuinely greeted and asked how the food is. Had to park on the street since their lot (like their interior) is fairly small. That smallness also meant we waited about 10-12 minutes for a table, which was a small price to pay, particularly since a bunch of folks walked in right after us. Eat 33 definitely warrants a return visit and I'm looking forward to it! Overall: 4.5 stars ---- Pros: - Excellent food at a reasonable price. - Mimosas for $5, and big ones at that! - Fantastic service worth returning for. Cons: - Small place means a bit of a wait most of the time. - Parking lot also small, might have to get creative with it.

My family really enjoyed having a Sunday brunch at Eat 33. It's an adorable diner with lots of delicious breakfast and lunch options. I enjoyed some eggs, potatoes, bacon, & a biscuit. Whereas my family loved their biscuits & gravy, French toast, and omelette. Even though we had to wait a little bit to eat, the waitresses & hostesses hurried to get us a table and serve us. The restaurant and parking lot are on the smaller side so I suggest going on a weekday or early on a weekend if you want to be able to sit down and eat right away.

Pancakes (small) - 3 come in one order. Fluffy and delicious.

Quaint breakfast and brunch/lunch spot right off Staples with plenty of parking. I live close by and it's always pretty busy - even during the week. The staff are really friendly and it was a very laidback atmosphere given the high volume of customers. I loved that it's frequented by locals and regulars - when I walked in, three firefighters were sitting at the bar enjoying a quiet breakfast, which was nice to see. I got takeout Hilliard and an order of the small pancakes (3 pancakes for both the small and large stacks) for ~$15 plus tip. Both were typical breakfast plates and nothing too special, but it satisfied my random breakfast food craving and I enjoyed checking the place out and meeting the nice staff. I docked two stars since it took awhile (5 minutes) to finally place my order on the phone after being placed on hold, and another several minutes to be acknowledged once I arrived. And the portion items for takeout seem smaller than dine-in portions.

First time here. I knew it was good once we walked it. Lots of locals. People waiting for tables. All signs of a good joint. Staff are very friendly. Service was excellent. Prices can't be beat. I got the Breakfast Bowl and could only finish half. I would get it again. This is a must try.

Context: I am very generous with my rating of restaurants (see my track record, most of my reviews gave 4 or 5 stars). It takes a lot to make me write a negative review. Unfriendly staff who are off-putting. Mediocre food. Potentially good ambiance and decor but the mood was ruined by their waitstaff. We came here not out of our choice but that of our local host. Upon walking in, we asked for a table of four. Our friend hadn't arrived yet (so there were just 3 of us). The restaurant had many booths and tables wide open. They refused to seat us, citing their policy of seating groups only when everyone's present. That made no sense when they had so many tables. There is no place for us to even stand (much less sit) to wait. No waiting area. Waiters brushed by us running up and down (not relaxed). We were cramped by the bar area. Very unpleasant. We decided to tell them we were going ahead to eat without our friend, since we had to be somewhere. Finally we were seated, and we got to place our order. But the poker-faced waitress was cold and rude throughout the process. No smile. No welcome. Our dishes came; the simplest, most terribly presented, American breakfast dishes ever. What a miserable place. Our friend (who was late) did eventually show up. He came in and came to our table (naturally as anyone would do). He sat down. A waitstaff came over to tell him off: we do not take _____ (something about walk-ins or late comers). At this point, there were still plenty of open tables all around us. Not crowded at all. We did not infringe on anyone's space or the restaurant's ability to do business. Why could our friend not join us? After some more back and forth, finally our friend was allowed to place his order, but he received a stern warning. One time exception only. Well, I can tell you: we won't come back. There won't be a "next time." Why so rude? So entitled? I suspect they are racist given their tone and attitude.

Meatloaf and eggs

We had not been to Eat 33 in years and stopped in for a Sunday lunch about an hour before closing. We were generally happy with our experience. Service was friendly, available, and helpful. Couldn't ask for better in a casual spot liker this. It was obvious that there were a lot of regular customers as there were several hugs exchanged between staff and guests as tables emptied. Food was brought out hot, and a drink refill was offered. Nothing at all to argue with. The food was enjoyable. The comfort food and breakfast oriented menu is far broader than I remembered. There were easily 10 things I was tempted to pick for my lunch among the dozens of things on offer. I settled on the meatloaf and eggs with red potatoes. The eggs were cooked perfectly to order. The meatloaf itself lacked much excitement (no onions or peppers or the like were noticeable in the mix and would have added flavor) and it seemed to me to be a giant hunk o' 80/20 on the dry side. Fortunately I had been offered brown gravy as a topper, and this rescued the meat. The potatoes were very good, flat top cooked with some onion and maybe bacon grease in there. Yummy. The accompanying biscuit was soft and could have used a few more minutes in the oven. Once I added butter and jelly it was fine. My wife got fried shrimp, beans, corn bread, corn, and garlic bread. The shrimp were perfectly fried, the beans good. The cornbread made from a good recipe, not overly sweet, good crumble. The corn was a disappointment, a clear afterthought straight out of a can. Portions were more than ample, we each took food home for later. Parking can be tight, and we have attempted to visit before this but turned away because of the wait lines and the parking lot. So be patient if you show up right at a meal time. Open for breakfast and lunch, til 2 PM I believe. We will add it to the breakfast/brunch rotation. 3 1/2 stars.

Eat33 12:15pm Staples Mill Road I called to find out exactly where they were located because I was walking. The lady on the phone was very nice and patient. She gave me some landmarks so I knew which way to walk. The atmosphere is a small diner and family friendly. An older building/house, nothing fancy but clean and decent food. Seated quickly. Here to have brunch while my car is at the doctor. I ordered biscuits and gravy w/eggs over medium and apples. W/sweet tea & lemon Order was taken fairly quick. Food came out just as quick!! Biscuits and gravy were the bomb, although I'll never eat all of this. They are not stingy with the servings, that's for sure. The white of the eggs were cooked too hard for me and I only ate one. The apples were too soft for me. Didn't eat any. The sweet tea was good. Still, the biscuits and gravy were so good it made up for it. 3/5 for me. Definitely worth revisiting.

Great local spot ! Certainly has that local ambiance! The food was above average for the scramble bowl and the catfish benny! It was below average on the salmon cakes ! Service was good but they

Eat 33 is one of the cutest breakfast places. It's close to staples mill. It's very much a mom and pop shop! It's very small town and the building is pretty easy to miss if you're not paying attention. They have a lot of choices for breakfast items. I just got a mushroom omelette with sausage and grits and a biscuit. I also got an orange juice. It's very very small inside but that's the charm of it!

Impressive diner with really good food at reasonable price! I had fried oysters Benedict and serious some of the best fried oysters. Boyfriend had Nawlen scrabble and he said it was tasty. Other friend had biscuit and gravy breakfast and really enjoyed it.

Decisions decisions! It's easier to decide when drinking a mimosa

Everything went beautifully with the spongey goodness of the Injera. Ethiopian flavors are just so... cool. I don't know how else to describe it but this just hit different. Coffee/tea options? Two thumbs up. Food? Outstanding. Seriously, I loved it from start to finish. I showed up on a Tuesday morning with my laptop and an empty stomach. There's lots of seating inside (with great natural light throughout, it's just such a warm, cozy space), and a few tables outside as well. I ordered the Keshir team (ginger, orange juice, and honey), which totally hit the spot. I could not resist the breakfast combo, which comes with egg silsi (scrambled eggs in tomato sauce with onion), kinche (bulgur cooked and tossed with yellow onion and clarified butter and topped with jalapenos), firfir (injera sauteed in a spicy tomato sauce), and injera. I SCRAPED the plate. Everything was delicious. Just thinking about it now, I wish there was a Buna Kurs in Baltimore, so I could eat this for breakfast once a week. One of the best breakfasts I've had this year. No joke. I love Ethiopian food, and I am so jealous that Richmond has an Ethiopian cafe. Ethiopian for breakfast?! A dream. It doesn't hurt that the service and ambiance are also great. Easy street parking to boot. A great place to work. The only thing that I'd recommend to them is that a few more outlets to charge laptops or phones would be nice - so that people can work from the cafe more easily! But otherwise, Buna Kurs is pretty much perfect in my view. Dream breakfast. Great cafe. Couldn't love it more.

From the host to the server, we really enjoyed everyone! The restaurant itself was cute! It was small and quant but we are used to that living in the city in DC and some of the best restaurants are like that! Now the drinks and food!! For the drinks we had the rosemary martini and espresso martini. The rosemary was one of my favs!! So light and delicious! The espresso was lacking and I'm an espresso martini snob! It was just so watery and was lacking flavor from the espresso! We ordered two kids pizza and a few apps. The fried green tomato's, spinach/crab dip and fried oysters which was a special! The pizza was delicious but the menu doesn't state that they sprinkle Parmesan on top. Both my kids have an allergy so they had to remake it. Once they remade it with no parm it was DELICIOUS! Def get their pizza! The biggest issue was the fried foods. The crab/spinach dip is a must try! It was good!!! But the fried green tomatoes and oysters were not good bc we can tell they haven't changed their grease in ages. They came out super dark and tasted burnt due to the grease it was cooked in. I worked in a restaurant for ages and can tell! If they had fresh grease it would have made a ton of difference! I'd love to come back and try it again but only if they have improved how they cook their fried food! If you're just looking for pizza and cocktails, this is a good recommendation!

The cucumber sandwiches were on brown bread??? The chicken salad sandwiches were bland and boring and were served on regular thick white bread. The desserts also lacked sparkle. The best were the tiny chocolate mousse tart, and the tiny rectangular fruit tart. The macrons were delicious and probably the best thing about the tea. However, the rectangular fruit tart did not have an expected glaze of apricot jam as is traditional. There were two cakes. One was chocolate, which was very fudgy and moist however, it really could have used a pinch of salt to bring its profile up to delicious. The other cake was a slice of either apple or banana??? Flavor so faint I couldn't tell. Neither of those desserts had frosting so can they really be called cake? There was a sugar cookie but I gave it to My friend so I can't speak to how it was. There was this little chocolate thing that was difficult to ascertain what it was supposed to be. I think it was supposed to represent hot chocolate with peppermint and marshmallows, but despite the peppermint and the tiny marshmallows, it was lackluster. The entire experience could have improved with printed menus with descriptions of what we had. There were two teas offered, the Jefferson and the Richmond blend. I had the Richmond blend. It was so splendid that I ordered some from their supplier. Overall, I was terribly disappointed. The beautiful venue had a slight effect on improving the overall experience.
