This was one of the strangest estimates and evaluations I've had for my home. The rep was friendly, took a look at my attic and I was fine with her quoting out all the additional options they offer. $19K to remove and replace attic insulation in my 1,600 sq foot home~ but since it's winter they had a deal for $13K. Passing on the attic fans for $3K, whole house fan too for $4K etc. When I asked if they would e-mail over the estimate I was told to take a photo of the iPad. Are you kidding? "We'll have scheduling slots open on these days but they'll be filled by the end of the day today so let us know as soon as possible. We won't reach back out to you, so it's up to you." A few month ago the Eagle Shield team came and did a complete install. They removed all the old insulation from the attic, blew in new insulation and installed reflective insulation, installed a whole house fan and a solar attic fan. Also they did their magic on the heating and air ducts. The team was fantastic and very happy to explain every aspect of their job and how it worked. When they were finished the left the job site cleaner then it was when they arrived. Couldn't be happier with their work. Since then we've seen between a 100 -200 hundred a month saving on our energy bill, and we aren't even in our peak season. A few weeks later we hired a contractor and I mentioned that Eagle Shield had done their work. He stated the he wanted to recommend them but didn't know enough about them and asked if he could look at their work. A year ago we had Garrett Harwood come to our home and give us an estimate for and Eagle Shield installation for $9,4455. According to the radio commercials from personalities like Tom Sullivan, John Mcginnis, and Armstrong & Getty we could experience a reduction in heating and air conditioning costs of up to 70%, In addition to multiple degrees of lower temperatures in the summer and multiple degrees of warmer temperatures in the winter. I am thrilled that I had Eagle Shield transform my heating and air. Garrett and the team were outstanding. Everything Garret said was 100% accurate. My PGE bill is lower and my propane heating is significantly reduced as well. I used to turn the thermostat up all the time and now I am turning it down. At one point my propane company said that I had so much credit built up to stop sending payments! I liked that the team was so knowledgeable and explained what they were doing and how it would benefit my home. I do think the Eagle Shield installation from 10 years ago was a total waste of money. I've been told several times by Heating and Air companies that the insulation should've been on the roof rafters instead of laying it directly on top of the insulation. I do think it is more helpful in the winter than the summer. I do not think it made a bit of difference for my energy cost bill. Fortunately, I went to a different company for a Whole House Fan, which was the best investment I've ever made in terms of Sacramento summer Heat. I do think the concentration is more on the sale than the customer service. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels like I got ripped off by a very expensive improvement that did not do much at all. read more

The team arrived early to accommodate my schedule. The team started a little after 7:00 a.m. and they took care of the vents in my home office first because I had a 7:30 a.m. meeting. They were incredibly careful bringing their equipment in and out of my home. To my surprise, the team placed plastic corner protectors on each door they were going in and out of. They worked quickly and as quietly as possible. The entire project was completed in about 4 hours. They cleaned the work area and left no mess. I had Eagle Shield and a whole house fan and a solar attic fan installed 8/6. The work was done quickly, I paid in full with a check for over $13,600.00, and my only problem was in obtaining paperwork to go with the fans. As with most appliances there is always a booklet the accompanies them. I requested them the day the installation was done and for the next 2 days. I finally had to threaten contacting The Tom Sullivan Show (where I heard about ES) and the BBB. Kim went off on me and threatened legal action but she sent me the model numbers and a signed copy of their guarantee. I was able to download the booklets that admonished the installer to leave them with the homeowners as the serial numbers were on the back page. I found that in plugging in the whole house fan they broke the switch plate where my home heating unit was plugged in and just left it. I elected to pay for an inspection by the County to be sure the work as done correctly. The work passed inspection, but this could have been avoided if I had just been given the booklets that went with the fans and there was no reason for Kim to cop an attitude. As to the broken switch plate, I may be 77 years old but I can still do minor repairs like that so I replaced it. I did send a letter to The Tom Sullivan Show as well. read more

I had it for almost a year now and i haven't seen a difference. So i first herd of this on the radio, i called because it sounded ligit. In a couple of days Garrett himself came to my house Himself. I was unable to be present for the evaluation but my wife said that he didn't even stepped in the atic. Just open the door looked at it and came down with a $10,000 proposa. He said they would clean the attic, disinfect it and seal it from rodents. Also remove the old insolation and replace it with new. so long story short, all they did was sweep up the attic, spray it with bleach and spray new insolation and made a mess up there. oh and put up the eagle shield reflective paper. They did all that in a few hours day, collected their money, and didn't hear from them again. One week went by and another. I called them and asked when i would see the difference and all they could say was to be patient that i would see it shortly. almost a year has gone by and no difference, i've had rodents back in the attic so it was never sealed. what's really disappointed is that i not once received a call To see how everything was going or just a simple check up call. People please do your homework before making this decision, I don't want the same thing that happen to me to happen to you. I had Eagle Shield install their reflective barrier insulation in my home in walnut Creek a couple years ago. The cost was high, about $8,700. After two years I noticed no improvement in lowering my PG&E Bill. I should have researched the technology on my own before hiring this company. Reflective barrier is just that, reflective. It cannot reflect radiant energy in a dark attic. So this is "space science" is being installed by this company in a place where it cannot insulate anything. The company is NOT registered with a A+ in the BBB and the company isn't claimed here on yelp because of having to pay over a thousand dollars to have a yelp page which isn't true either. My quote was 10 grand for my attic and I have storage in my attic so there is wood down. The company was going to lay the product right over wood which is ridiculous and not professional. We had them come out a year ago to spray - got sold on their sales persons pitch. They came, were real professional, when they were done we went into our attic and from what we were able to see looked good. This month we remodeled out kitchen and had to tear out the ceiling which exposed the attic. Wow, are we dissapointed in Eagle Shield. Talking about missed spraying. When we originally signed off a year ago it was what was shown to us and what was visible at the time. My husband called Eagle Shield to talk to them and to get someone out here to review the quality of work. The guy who answered was rude. He wasn't interested in helping and he talked down to him. My husband is a General Contractor - he knows what he's talking about especially when it comes to customer service and word of mouth. My Husband was told that his concern would be passed on to the office. Right, what ever that means! They start off great and sell with a smile, but their follow through and customer service is horrible. HUGE WASTE OF MONEY. The so-called home efficiency inspection was a joke and she really only looks at SF and selling radiant barrier and solar fan. We had the radiant barrier installed, Kim recommended we do both the roof and the rafters covering the insulation. Made ZERO difference in our bill and the house interior moisture levels increased during the winter, and it feels VERY WARM in the summer. I called about this, and a guy came out and adjusted the attic fan, which apparently was not set up correctly. We ended up taking out the sheets that were covering the insulation after 2 1/2 years, and researching that it is a bad idea to have both because moisture gets trapped in the insulation and can cause mold. We left the radiant barrier sheets that are stapled to the roof, since that is current code. Ever since their installation, the rooms to the previously cool, north side of the house now get almost no airflow and suspect the worker damaged the duct or vent connections, based on a recent call with an HVAC person, because the AC unit is working fine. I literally have to run the AC all the time, at 74-75 degrees to just keep the house bearable, and before their installation, the house was very comfortable at 78 degrees. We did have the solar powered attic vent installed too, but it only works during the day and so when the sun is not hitting it, it shuts off and is still warm in the attic at night. BIGGEST WASTE OF MONEY EVER!! Oh and the so called money savings payment plan is the worst! 9.99%, which she said would be 7 years...well, we are in year 3 and only have reduced the balance by $1,000 from our $5200 purchase and the statement payment info box says we have 8 more years at the current payment that she set us up with. DON'T USE THEM!! I have since learned I could have had similar stuff installed for $1500-2000 using a SMUD approved contractor. Now I have higher electricity use, less comfort, greater wear and tear on my AC unit, and the added burden to try to pay a HVAC company to come figure out why we have little airflow to the bedrooms. read more

What an amazing experience! Jarrett came out, explained all our options and detailed the process. They scheduled us right away, arrived early and the crew was awesome. I have called these people THREE times over the course of a week to talk to someone about getting a quote for my home. EACH time I call (after listening to their outdated phone system choices) the slowest, relatively uncaring, barely speaking English people who don't understand the product at all only want to take down my information to give to their office. Will someone call me back? They have no clue. And they take the information SO SLOWLY IT IS PAINFUL. And no one has called me back. I am beginning to think this is a scam of some sort, but I hear their ads all the time on the radio. It is puzzling to me how someone can run a business so poorly and yet have so much money to pour into these ads..... So far I'm very happy with the decision to have Eagle Shield take care of our attic and air ducts. We had the old insulation sucked out, new put in, air ducts cleaned and sealed, heat reflective lining put in, solar attic fan installed, and whole house fan in stalled. Tommy, who cleaned the air ducts showed me how dirty they were and the large gaps that were allowing the air and heat to escape into the walls instead of out to the rooms. He sealed all the gaps. We can now feel a huge difference in the air flow coming from the vents. That alone I'm sure will lower our utilities bill, and it's a good feeling to know we're now breathing clean air. Dave showed us how to operate the whole house fan, and it is amazing! I can't wait for summer to use it. Our attic has always been so hot in the summer our air conditioner had to work nonstop. Because of the now sealed air ducts we already notice the heat is not running as often. I'm very happy we had all four things done, air vents, insulating, solar attic fan, and whole house fan. I have no doubt we will see a tremendous drop in heating and cooling costs. Tommy the air duct cleaner and Dave the head of the attic crew took great pride in their jobs. Best product you can buy for saving money with SMUD. I'm not sure what's up with the other comments, but I had this installed last week after speaking with the owner Garrett. His installers were extremely professional & I couldn't have been happier with their work. I can't wait to get my SMUD bill next month to see my savings. With the temps reaching 110 yesterday my A/C had actually shut off throughout the day while keeping the house temp at a comfortable 72, I've never seen this happen before. Kim came out to do an energy audit and she wasn't pushy but she feeds you a lot of false information to get you to go with their most expensive installations. She even went as far as to tell me that having insulation isn't what I needed (even though our attic barely had any); she wanted us to go with the expensive radiant barriers and attic fans. She told me some nonsense about how there is a tax credit that will expire any day. When I asked her about how I would prove that I got it installed, she said they would just "take my word for it" when they do my taxes. Right then I knew she was a con. Her quote was over $5,000. I went with another company and I got the highest quality insulation of R38 put in for a fraction of that cost and our house is wonderful now even during 95 degree days. Filled out their online two page form requesting an energy audit. Got a voicemail in a week from person one. Tried to call person one back four times over the next two weeks, but number went to message rather than voicemail. On fourth week I called the 800 number, person two asked for name and schedule time, then put me on hold and transferred to person three who asked the same questions, then proceeded to ask the questions I had already filled out on the web form. I cut that person three off as it felt this was a virtual company with multiple layers of agents and no real employees. I'll spend my money with another company who has their act together. read more

We requested an appointment online from Eagle Shield and an extremely pushy sales rep called and asked a lot of questions which sounded irrelevant and intrusive! The final straw came when he asked me for my wife's name!!! I thought why would attic installation of foam would require this guy to get "CHUMMY" with us!?! Well, the mystery was solved yesterday when they called back and that's when I learned that these guys have been coached by the same SLEAZY, PRESSURE COOKER sales tactics that certain companies use to sell Time Shares!! They insisted that my wife has to be present for the INTERVIEW!! Hearing my objections she claimed that since everyone has their OWN comfort level; they need to have EVERYONE present!! When I told them that that's NOT an option for us at 10 AM during the day, she pushed for a weekend appointment!! We have been though an unpleasant Time Share sale before and didn't want to repeat the experience on insulation material that would be installed in the attic! I could understand if the material would be cosmetic and visible INSIDE the home that they could justify needing input from BOTH homeowners, but doing this on insulation material is simply MORONIC on their part and clearly transparent! This is ONLY intended to pressure homeowners to buy on the spot! We cancelled them and won't be dealing with them EVER! Funny reviews. Yes, the sales folks are on the (very) pushy side but my review is of the products specifically. They work. I had these guys come up to install an attic fan and insulation in the attic and basement. I am comfortable recommending both products to friends. The insulation definitely helps regulate the temperature in both summer and winter and the attic fan is amaaaazing for the summer. Turn it on and the house cools off by at least 10 degrees. I had Eagle shield install their "radiant barrier" in my attic a few years ago. This product is extremely low quality and flimsy. It is attached to nothing therefore I can hear and see it fly around my attic on a windy day. The day of my install, one guy was sick and the other showed up with his personal car and no company logo and the rolled up tinfoil aka radiant barrier in his trunk. The quality of work unprofessional and so is the product. When I asked the owner why the product would not be stapled down or something, he stated that it would be extra and that the product would not work to it's full potential? The company salesperson aka owner is a great salesperson but this product is the worst and my heating and cooling bills never went down as promised by the company. Do yourself a favor and save $$$. Just get R30 from HD or Lowes and install yourself. The employee that came there to install is that he stated that he lived in Vallejo/Pinole and it was an odd event that less than a week later we got a call from Discover that someone got a hold of our credit card and charged more than $500 on it. When we asked Discover to tell us where the transactions were taking place, Discover stated that the transactions were happening in Vallejo/Pinole area. Odd eh? In a nutshell, the product is subpar, the install a nightmare, no money saved over time on heating and air bills, etc..WASTE OF $$$$ I know the company will probably come up with some type of rebuttal that there product is superior and people have saved $$$$$; but I, the consumer, have the product and the high heating/air bill still and the crap still floating around my attic. read more

My wife and I moved to Walnut Creek seven years ago to our 1964 home. Three years ago with an objective of saving energy and expense I had PG&E complete an energy audit. The technician sealed some leaky ductwork, but made no mention of adding insulation. Fast-forward to December 2011 and January 2012. My electrical and gas bill with PG&E raised my hackles, pricing in near $500 monthly for a 1,676 square foot single story home. Frustrated I called Eagle Shield for a complementary energy audit- hoping for some pricing solutions to save. Garrett Harwood, the company's owner, arrived punctually for the home energy audit. He listened to my experience and goal. He observed that my insulation could be improved significantly. I was delighted to learn that was a problem (because it is fix-able), but surprised since PG&E didn't earlier flag that recommendation to me. Garrett explained that PG&E is akin to the cigarette industry in some ways e.g. cigarette companies are required to have no-smoking campaigns and PG&E runs conservation programs- but they are each in the business of people consuming the products delivered. Frustrating but true. Garrett and his staff that later provided the insulation install were very professional. Pricing was reasonable. We are very pleased with how the insulation has made the house much more comfortable for all of us. Before installation we had strange temperature pockets in our kids' rooms and in contrast, cold in our master bedroom at night. No longer the case.
