This review is for people who, like me, didn't understand the importance of proper drainage as it…read morerelates to roofing. I met Gilbert and his great crew when they were replacing the neighbor's roof. I asked him if he could inspect our roof for any issues, and he readily agreed. He sent me pictures of some very minor issues and said he would fix them. I asked him how much it would cost and he said, "just send something in for the guys." So I did. Fast forward a few months when I noticed some sagging in our kitchen ceiling as well as serious dry rot on our small light well roof. I called Gilbert and he came out to do an estimate. With respect to the flat roof at the back of our house, he gave me a choice of fixing vs. replacing. A fix would have saved us thousands of dollars. Given that the flat roof was 22 years old, I went with replacing. As for scheduling, Gilbert was extremely accommodating. He actually postponed a job so that he could fit our project in between out of town travel to tend to elderly family members. I very much appreciated that. As home improvement projects usually go, we had a surprise when it came to our small light well roof. When Gilbert's crew removed the existing roof, they discovered that there was another layer of roofing that needed to be removed. Gilbert handled the surprise at what I thought was a reasonable cost. When our light well roof was done in 2003 as part of a major remodel, it was done to code at the time, which required three separate drains. A center drain, as well as a drain on each side, which was what the left and right downspouts were connected to. I now know from the plumber who did the original work that the drainage was done this way so that ALL the rainwater from the south side of our house drained to three different places, rather than one. If it went to one drain, and that drain were to clog or fail, that could lead to a very expensive disaster. When Gilbert inspected the light well roof for the estimate, he was rather perplexed as to why the left and right downspouts each had their own drain. From a roofing perspective, that didn't seem efficient. So Gilbert decided to make the left and right downspouts go to the center drain. He also attached a reducer to the center drain, meaning the top of the drain started at three inches, but attached to a two inch pipe in the crawlspace. Gilbert told me now that the left and right downspout drains were "cancelled", I could get a plumber to remove them from the crawlspace. When I called our plumber and explained what Gilbert had done and what told me to do with respect to the "cancelled" drains, he came over right away. He explained that the light well roof drainage was done to code at the time, as well as the reason rainwater from the south side of the house should not go into a single two inch drainage pipe. He got to work removing the cast iron drainage pipes from the crawlspace and a bedroom closet, removing the reducer, and switching back to three inch drain pipes. He said the fix wasn't ideal, but that it would work. Gilbert may know roofing, but he is not a licensed plumber. Unfortunately, his desire for roofing efficiency cost us almost $1300 in plumbing fixes, and a to-be-determined amount to replace drywall from the "cancelled" left downspout drain that routed through a bedroom closet. Our new roofing hasn't been put to the test of heavy rainfall. We are keeping our fingers crossed that everything will hold up.

I contacted his office to make an appointment y based on his request to do so in his response to my Yelp inquiry. Making those Yelp inquiries is time consuming. You get a lot of calls to filter through and lots of discussions and responses back and forth. Anyway I talked to 3 companies and set up appointments. Each call takes time because they ask you a bunch of questions, etc. I spoke with the company and set up an appointment for Monday 3/4/24 at 2pm for an estimate. They said it would be between 1pm and 2pm arrival. I told them I had to leave shortly after 2pm and they said no problem. Gilbert's original response said that date too. I waited until 2:15pm and then called to ask if Gilbert was on his way. He said he was running late and was just leaving Stockton. Not impressed. He said do I want to reschedule? I said yes, anytime Thursday or Friday. He said uhhhhhh how about next week? That's when I said forget it. If you're running late you really should have let me know in the first place. I would not trust future obligations would be met on a timely basis based on this experience. I'll go with one of the other companies.

Since they are so good at manufacturing sheet metal to spec I decided to frame out overhead storage and a new floating workbench and shelf underneath. Richard consulted with me on several occasions to ensure the frame was sufficient and included features that would make sure the sheet metal application would work well and look beautiful. I couldn't be happier with the end result. Richard has a passion for perfection and innovative design. He doesn't just do this for a living, he does this because he truly enjoys it and it shows in every way. He will even go out of his way to make sure you get the most out of the material used to eliminate waste and increase value. Honestly, I can't wait for the next project!

They were…read morequick initially with the job and getting things in place, but when it comes to ending and then any follow-up after that, it's not so great. Which personally to any homeowner, the ending and follow-ups are sometimes the most important to show continued good customer service, and being able to trust a company with any work done. After having my roof replaced, the surrounding job site around the home was a mess despite the promise to keep debris and the area around the home clean. There were literally nails throughout the whole outdoor area of our home and not to mention debris from them tearing and just throwing the old shingles off the roof to anywhere around the home - backyard, side yard, you name it, there were pieces all over. And if you know how shingles are, even if it doesn't break into smaller pieces, you're guaranteed with LOTS and LOTS of asphalt from the asphalt shingles. The combination of nails and asphalt around a home where there's a pet dog and a young child is definitely unappreciated. A Pace Ave rep (mind you not the roofing company) did come out after that and used a magnetic strip to collect all the nails, but nothing could be done with the asphalt mess. Nonetheless, some nails would appear every now and then. A year later, I'm now having an issue with gutters that are so full of debris and despite the willingness to come out and take a look (since the roofers did NOT cover the cutters when they removed the old asphalt shingles), they have not follow through and hence why this review is in order. And I think this kind of review is crucial to give proper feedback as it's not the immediate moment after the work is done that is important but after that as well. Gutters that had no problem before roof replacement is now growing with some weeds, and heavy with debris - could it be all from just the wildfires? I doubt it as the layer of soot from the wildfire isn't going to leave that much when it would also be washed away. Also, see the attached picture of how shingles are not overlapping and allowing underlayment to be exposed in the first shingles layer. Is this how roofs is to be installed properly? (Updated June 15th, 2021) Thanks for the response, but you took a whole week to respond despite me responding immediately. Time is money and I can't be sitting around leaving my schedule free for a supposed meeting that wasn't confirmed until 2 days before that you finally responded. I will have another third party look at it again it may be true that there's an issue and it's not deemed so, and I get charged anyway since right now, I can't trust your word either when the proper service would be to follow up accordingly, check, instead of the continuous back and forth about maybe this contract did this or that. Would have protected yourself if pictures were taken at the end of the work. Still does not address the initial issues immediately after the roof replacement. So there you have it everyone, a company who seeks to avoid what they could.

Each morning the crew arrived on time and ready to work from the moment they stepped out of the trucks! At the end of the workday they left my property cleaned up and tidy. We did have some spots of dry rot due to the age and quality of our existing roof. It was repaired quickly and at a very reasonable price. The work was done ahead of schedule and we couldn't be happier! Customer service excellence can be hard to come by these days, but with this wonderful company and its experienced staff we were never left wondering or worried about our home. I do ALOT of research before I do certain things, and even more so on this big of a project affecting our home. .. ok, ok, I do research pretty much anything and everything, food, entertainment, travel, etc... lol Anyways, so I did my research on "Davis Roofing", and met with 5 other roofing companies, so ya not only did i pick well rated roofing companies 4 and up, i called them, and got quotes from 5 companies. The first guy gave us a great $ Price $ quote, sadly he was not insured (um, huge red flag to me, anything to happen we would be at fault, or a grey area, and I dont need to deal with a grey area , someone getting hurt, and or lawsuits if it came to it. The other guys $ price $ ranged was close , just a few thousand dollars apart ish. But a few thousand is a few thousand, We are a budget family, only have one provider, my wife, I am on full Disability, so I try to help her with any thing I can, sometimes it hard due to my chronic pain, really takes it out of it, but she is Amazing.. ANYWAYS, back to this ROOF. lol "Davis Roofing", It came down to what ive researched , I narrowed it to 2 companies, "Davis Roofing" . I am very grateful that they took those massive boards/beams out, since they were really warp, so they replaced them, looks great like nothing happened or wasnt repaired. No charge , it was in our quote , so Im guessing they do that for all there customers, and part of there bussiness model , which is awsome and doesnt throw a wrench into the operation of the roof, and extra fees that is already expsive enough, lol... I applied to the PACE Program for financial assistance and it was granted but I couldn't find a roofing contractor who worked with PACE. Davis had never worked with the program but Cintra Davis took the educational class to be certified so they could help me out. They did an exceptional job using top of the line materials and their crew seems to love their jobs, even doing an impeccable job with cleaning up. Michael and Cintra came by several times to check up on the progress and inspect the workmanship. I can't say enough about the company and all their employees. I have recommended Davis Roofing Group to my family and friends. They can be trusted to be honest, and to make sure you will be happy with your material and color options and very importantly, there will be NO CHANGE ORDERS which seems to be standard practice with some roofers ! Starting with pricing was very reasonable, high-quality materials used, Cesar answered all of my questions on time and I was put at ease with his answers. Cesar's team showed up on time each day and finished installing the new roof early and got the permit signed off all in the span of 1.5 weeks and could have done sooner if it wasn't for a couple days of rain. They cleaned up after each day as if no work was being done at the property.
